The Jason Voorhees Living Dead Doll.

I'm taking what's become my traditional "Wednesday off" from doing a Countdown entry, because I'm tired and useless and all that jazz. Instead, here's something that I thought would've made for a perfect Countdown post, but there just wasn't enough for me to say about it beyond AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.

I know that "Living Dead Dolls" have a pretty poignant poser punk pseudogoth stain on them; at the same time, they're really cool and they make me wish I wasn't in my sixties. For those unaware, the collection consists of well made (speaking both of materials and craftsmanship) "baby dolls," all vamped up to look like corpses, psychos, slashers or all of the above. If you can get past the visions of misguided little girls in Sad Emily shirts carrying these things around the back aisles of bookstores, they're really nice display pieces, assuming you have a place in your home private enough to display baby dolls with blood all over them.

As a special promotion at last year's Comic-Con, Jason Voorhees became a Living Dead Doll. I wasn't there, but apparently, the only people who bought the dolls at Comic-Con did so with intentions of an eBay mark-up. Normally, I'd balk, but for baby Jason? Hells bells, yo.

The neatest thing about the Jason Living Dead Doll is that it specifically references our hero's look in Friday the 13th Part 3. They could've just as easily made him more generic -- hockey mask and black shoes, not that he doesn't have those -- and totally gotten away with it. It was definitely made with hardcore fans of the series in mind, which makes sense, because only hardcore fans of the series would pay up to and over fifty bucks for a Jason Voorhees Living Dead Doll.

I loved the way Jason looked in Parts 3 & 4, and I'm really glad that they didn't explore his later, zombie years. Every detail is correct -- he's got the right clothes in the right colors, and there's even a big mask gash from the axe Jason took to the head at the end of the film.

The doll comes with Jason's machete, which is also nice and bloody, but I couldn't get the thing to actually fit in the doll's hand. I guess they never expected people to open the boxes, because then they're worth NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING! Pish and a posh and a 1-2. More incredible is that the mask is removable, revealing a baby-faced Jason Voorhees that increases the likelihood that I'll kiss something today by 10,000%.

Everything about the doll is just...right. The box utilizes the right color scheme and font; the doll utilizes the right color scheme and, uh, feet. Knowing that my eternal love for all things Jason isn't something shared by every X-E reader, I should also mention that there's an Edward Scissorhands Living Dead Doll.

Great doll, great thing, great big waste of money that I don't regret. I've always wondered what Jason's ass looked like, and now I know. I'm schooled.

On another note, in yesterday's Countdown entry, I got all whiny about how Toys 'R" Us stores aren't organized like they used to be; particularly that they've switched out the supermarket-style aisles for randomly placed standees. Well, I went to my local TRU for the first time in weeks tonight, and what do I find? Supermarket aisles. Wow. I don't know if it was a mandate from HQ or one specific manager's decision, but if yours is doing the same, and you're around the same age as me, go there now. Holy memories. I was five-years-old again. Everyone was giving me lollipops.

Funcoland is owned by Gamestop. If there’s still one around, it’s becuase they’re too lazy to change their sign.

Now I have another reason to go to Toys ‘R Us this weekend besides picking up a Booker T action figure and a lollipop with Batman’s head on it.

I have to drive 45 minutes to get to my nearest TRU, and it’s a poor excuse for a toy paradise. Also, creepy dolls.

Is it weird that I kind of want to hug it?

Dolls are pretty scarey regardless. But if they ever make a linda blair doll from the Exorcist I am game. That will haunt your dreams.

I know damn well that Funcoland is owned by Gamestop, and the place I saw the only stubborn one left on LI was in Lake Grove past the Smithaven Mall on 347, near Sports Plus.

Don’t feel too alone, because I saw one a Funcoland month ago in either Dallas or Ft. Worth.

By the time we finally got a TRU in my town, I had grown out of toys. They closed it down earlier this year, so if I wanted to go to one, I’d have drive a couple hours to get there.

Last time I was in TRU, it was the Times Square location doing the boss’s Christmas shopping.

Check this out though, I was thinking about the deplorable lack of Halloween parades in my grade school days. Lamenting to my older brother on how much we missed out, he reminded me of something — that in the third grade, they had hurded everyone from the sixth grade down into the gym for a special Halloween movie. They gave us soft pretzels (this *IS* right outside of Philadelphia, after all) and popcorn and orange drink. And the movie was … The Worst Witch. No lie. I had to read the review to corroborate it.

The TrU in my old stomping grounds is like a super market too. My favoirte part of it is the section in the back corner where they have all the mishmashed action figures that arn’t very popular or used to be popular but are now old hat. You know, the wwe, lord of the rings, van helsings, dragon ball z, and of course any other crazy anime line of figures they might have. My friend and I went there over the weekend and just walked around, commenting on the various toys. Fun times. One odd thing was the 17 different sizes of GI joe figues they have on sale now. The sad thing is aunt edna’s chances of getting you the correct size compatable GI joe vehicles for those figures YOU have are about 1 in 80 billion.

I haven’t been in a TRU in quite some time. I’ve afraid I don’t know what all the talk of “supermarket aisles” is all about. Did they switch to stacking the toys vertically or something? 55 gallon drums? I’m going to have to go to a TRU to check this out.

I saw the most amazing toy I have ever seen yesterday at Hasting’s… a talking 3-foot-tall Jack Skellington with fully-poseable limbs. *drool* It was $40 and I think I’m in love.

Eddie Lightning Frog –
As per your request in regards to Haunted attractions…I have not been to any, but I do work at one…and this past weekend we were successful at having some customers pee their pants, and I personally made a girl hyperventilate & not even go into the main attraction :-) Good times.

Tonight starts another 4 days of mischief. But I have a feeling we will be slow due to the Mets game tonite.

You’re a perfectionist…Not that I’m complaining, mind you, but I would’ve slapped a black background on this bitch and called it a Countdown.

My local TRU sucks- it’s in a mall, and there is not much of anything in it if you’re not 0-11 months old. Seriously, 3/4 of the store is baby junk. They have a decent board game section, and a ton of bikes, but all I care about is action figures and it is slim pickings. The action figure aisle is continually messed up and all the toys are old and discarded- they’re still selling stuff like Shrek 2 characters and shit from the 1st Pirates of the Carribbean….God, maybe my TRU gets the reject toys from other TRUs and it’s like my own personal island of lost toys or something…either way, my TRU depresses me.:( And depression is NOT what you normally look for in a toy store…

Raptorgirl- I remember Childrens Palace. I also remember Child World. I think I may have like the Child World panda better than Geoffery the Giraffe.

That doll is sweet! I primarily collect all that is Friday the 13th, but, as of late I have had to stop.
I have way too much stuff. It’s gotten out of hand. I wish someone would do a Jason Vorhee’s pillow person in the vein of the Darth Vader done last Christmas. I need to snuggle me a mongloid killer.

I went to a haunted theme park. Phantom Fright Nights at my local Kennywood Park is voted the #3 haunted attraction in the WORLD. It totally deserves the title as there is freaky shit EVERYWHERE, and they run the Steel Phantom (best rollercoaster EVER) backwards AND in the dark. I highly recommend going even if you live light years away.

Children’s Palace.

My one-stop shop for Transformers, Centurions,TMNT, and Sweet Secrets.

I’m pretty sure I was there more than I was at school. Good times.

That doll looks kind of cute with it’s mask on. It’s when it’s off that he looks ugly.

I haven’t been to my TRU in a year, so I wouldn’t know if they did the remodel back to the old aisles. The thing I remember most about those aisles is that all the expensive electronics would be in a locked glass case, they looked so cool. Also, they had what I call the “Wall of Board Games” It was literally what it sounds like, a wall filled from top to bottom with every board game (popular and very obscure) you can imagine. Nowadays, you have to go to a specialty shop (we have Games by James) to find weird ones.

I don’t go to TRU basically because I rarely buy toys now (so expensive plus no room). When I do buy toys, I can get it cheaper at Target or Wal-Mart.

Wow, I really miss the old TRU. I still go occasionally, and it does make me sad. I miss the aisles upon aisles of action figures… Back in my “little kid prime,” there was everything I liked. Cartoons were great, the toys were great, video games were great… Ah, the 90′s. Well, 1999 sucked but still. X-Men had one of the best cartoons ever, if not the best. The Superman comics had become popular again, because of his “death” in ’93. SNES and the Genesis were out, and producing great games. Also, for some reason, Godzilla was really popular, and I mean before GINO(Godzilla in Name Only, damn you Ferris Bueller!). Beast Wars was on, another of the greatest cartoons ever, and had some awesome toys. I remember getting Scorponok one Christmas, and dammit I loved that thing. The same Christmas started a tradition between my mom and me; We have to say “What are you waiting for, Christmas?” wheneer we’re in traffic. She said it by accident and we never let it go. There were so many action figures back then, and now…

My TRU has a little nook in the corner of the store with all the figures. They just recently reverted it to aisles, but they are still facing a different direction than the other aisles in the store, and they’re tiny. There are a lot of unbought toys from years past, too many wrestling toys, and too much anime crap. I still look forward to the Transformers and… well, Power Rangers, mainly because I like robots more than anything.

I’m 15 and I’ll never grow out of toys.

Skin and Bones

There was an old woman all skin and bones,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
SHe lived down by the old graveyard,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
One night she thought she’d take a walk,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
She walked down by the old graveyard,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
She saw the bones a-lying around,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
She went to the closet to get a broom,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
She opened the door and ——-
BOO!!!

(nothing to do with the post. this song just scared the CRAP out of me when I was small)

Chestnuts roasted by Joker @ 10/19/2006 2:35 PM

My TRU went back to the “supermarket style” aisles, but its not quite the same. There are not two big, long aisles, but about 4 or 5 smaller rows. Atleast its better than the x’s.
