Never really liked Rice Krispies treats. Does that make me sacriligeous or something?

sweet! if you thinned out the pumpkin stems a bit you could have the recipe for xmas ornament balls, too
friday the 13th pt 3 in 3d playing again this weekend, for anyone around austin.
http://www.originalalamo.com/o.../show_details.asp?show_id=4152
also, gamestop and eb are starting wii reservations tomorrow! i just drove by the nearest store and people are already camping out, so you gotta get there early since most stores are only getting 15-30 core systems.
i miss those rice krispie squares commercials where people would put flour on their faces to make it look like it took hours to make them. As if someone would ever fall for it, seeing as its pretty obvious there actually is no flour needed in the rice krispie making process…as soon as someone offered me a rice krispie square and had flour on their face, i’d say, u can’t trick me, and that aint icing sugar! and throw the rice krispie square right in their face with an explosion of flour everywhere!

Does anyone remember Rice Krispie Treats Cereal? It was exactly what it sounds like, little mounds of RCT in a bowl that you pour milk on? Although they were sligtly harder than a regular RCT.
Also, AOL In2TV now has a Halloween channel showing old horror films, short-lived horror shows, and Halloween specials (Casper, Flinstones, and Bugs Bunny.)

Mmm, I love Rice Krispies Squares, I’m sure I would love them more with added sugary treats on top! I dig your little Rice Krispies dudes.

Rice Krispie treats were part of the mythical childhood treasures that were only found at friends’ houses. My mom was big on “good health” and “nutrition” and other crap that meant the only baked goods we regularly made were oatmeal cookies. Call it a cookie all you want, it tastes like ground up drywall. And raisins are disgusting.
Anyway, Rice Krispie treats are delicious, and I just realized I’ve never made them. I need to fix that soon… but since I just found the cutest mini peanut butter cups at Trader Joe’s, I have to make chocolate chip cookies with the cups instead of chips. They’ll be at least 50% more awesome than the regular kind. Ooh what about Rice Krispie treats with mini peanut butter cups? I need to do some experimenting.

Rice Krispy Treats are so good. And the cereal was awesome, but it kindof almost hurt your mouth to eat it because it was pretty sharpe.

You DON’T use flour when making Rice Krispie Squares. Well, fuck. No wonder mine always came screeching in agony.
Might have also been the souls of children I mixed in, but hey, sometimes you need to spice things up.

holy crap. im gonna have to make rice krispie treats very soon. all while simultaneously trying to make an accurate abe lincoln with one hand.
my mom only ever made me jello jigglers. they were cool. except when the napkin got stuck to the bottom and you had a pumpkin shaped piece of mega-jello and paper in your mouth…true story.

Hahahahahaa, I had to google Boris Pickett to remember who he is. Check out his awesome site!
Also, damn you Eddie, you know I can’t afford a Wii!

Posted by
Tommy @ 10/13/2006 1:36 AM EDT
it’s only $50 down! and if you can get your hands on one its a guaranteed higher resale in the first month or two
I wouldn’t be too sure about that Eddie, Wii isn’t high end tech that’s going to be hard for Nintendo to produce. They have had them in production for a while now and still have a month till release. They’re going to be able to push these things out and I bet the second wave of hardware will be out in no time.

Posted by
dohopoki @ 10/13/2006 2:07 AM EDT
nintendo is making enough, but the the eb/gs franchises are hoarding them for bundles, like the xbox 360 ‘omega’ ones they tried to sell for $2k. plus you can always bank on christmas moms paying extra on ebay because the store down the block is sold out when they call.
Hmm, i’ll probably try to preorder but miss the boat.
Speaking of Nintendo, have you guys seen this Nintendo Amusement Park prototype these guys are building? It sounds cool if they could ever get the funding they want.
Clicky

Posted by
Tommy @ 10/13/2006 2:12 AM EDT
Nintendo would’ve made a great amusement park, 10 years ago.
I read they plan to have 1 million Wii ready for launch. If each EB is only going to have 15-30, I don’t really this as hording.

Posted by
dohpoki @ 10/13/2006 2:19 AM EDT
per store I meant.

Posted by
dohopoki @ 10/13/2006 2:20 AM EDT
nonono they are getting more but are only letting that few go because theyre saving the rest for overpriced bundles. you cant just buy the core systems. im gonna try my luck at toys ‘r’ us. p.s. a lot of sources say 2 million wii, not 1.
“Rice Krispies TreatMeat…” Sickeningly funny.

Damn you, Matt! I got in a fight with my mom at the grocery store because she was trying to get me to make her Rice Krispies Treats and I didn’t want to (I’m the family baker, apparently). Now I’m gonna hafta suck up my pride and admit to her that I’m secretly dying to make them.
But I want to make bat-shaped ones! Ooo! An excuse to buy new cookie-cutters!!!!
And to think if I wouldn’t have had a severe case of insomnia tonight, I never would have had this problem. Well… until tomorrow when I read the Countdown anyway.
There are very few treats I get cravings for, but Rice Krispies are one of them. And they’re something I never get sick of. I can eat them until I get physically ill, then go back for more. They’re just so good. So simple and delicious.
I don’t understand why the boxes always have directions for making snakes and kites with licorice tails and stuff… what’s wrong with rectangles? That’s all I ever got as a kid, and these brats should be DAMN happy to get ‘em too!
Just saw spooky shape cookie cutters in the famous $1 section at Target that would be perfect, especially the adorable little Frankie face. I think I might have to copy this for the office Halloween party. Not out of any particular appreciation for the coworkers, of course, just as an excuse to indulge in making them. They’d be a huge hit, too.
i think matt is singlehandly trying to boost the economy.. i need rice krispie treats, STAT!
i’m a simple man tho i don’t need all that orange stuff

I was also one of the 1%, but now I think I’m gonna do this with my son this weekend. We also got our pumpkins at Target yesterday. So this weekend’s crafts will be themed. YAY for Friday!

Cooking with Matt!!! Watch out Martha!
Happy Friday the 13th.
Thanks, Mystie! I am a little worried about it being Friday the 13th today, since I am taking a 6 hour bus ride home later this morning! Wish me luck, I need some GOOD luck lately, after my car getting totalled.
I got a successful TATTOO last night! It is in between my shoulder blades, and it is something I drew myself- a dark star with a night sky inside of the star. There is a crescent moon and smaller stars, all with various shades of blue. I love it.
I will try to post a picture sometime, but I am going to be home, in my hick town in the woods for a few days, so no XE for me until Monday.
Damn, those Rice Krispie square look like FUN.

Goddamnit I wish I had some vegan marshmallows.
Anyhow, I’d still be willing to make these for my nephew, or something, but I really don’t know if he could even eat it without dropping it and having it roll around on the carpet… I won’t go into further detail. But yeah, he’s like, 2 and a half years old, so maybe I won’t make them.
But, whoever mentioned the cookie cutter idea - now that one is a possibility. You’d most likely get more treats out of it, too.
I totally love both of the pumpkins on the left sides!
The teeth are adorable! And honest to God black icing… wow. That’s awesome.

Hilarious!

I am incapable of making tasty Rice Krispie Treats. For some reason, they always come out leaving a rather chalky residue in your mouth. Yuck. Someone will have to make these for me.
Thanks for the reminder kingklash! I think I will curl up with my sick self, a blankie, hot tea and Rob Zombie tonight.

Happy 13th! chh chh chh ha ha ha…(everyone’s right, it sucks to try and type that)
I wasn’t here to post early here because 1) a semi-famous hypnotist performed at my college last night (hilarious), and 2) My Frat got a new pledge class! This is the Pi class and 3 guys are gonna be peldging, one of them being a 57 year old man who owns a bar…we went through all the argument stuff already but we all think he’ll be able to make it. No, we can’t give him the nickname “Blue” because someone else in the frat already has that.
And the 13 Nights of Halloween was one of the only things ABC Family has kept when it converted from Fox Family, the others being the 25 Days of Christmas and the 700 Club (which was the only reason why all the Family Incarnations had life to begin with…shudder…)
Speaking of that Nintendo Amusement Park…what kind of rides/attractions/lands would you put in it?
I think you should make a lifesized Alf Rice Crispy treat in homage to previous articles…..

At least one tv station you have will be playing F13 movies, Sci-fi channel is playing 2,3,4 tongight, and i’m getting merrily drunk in enjoyment.
Hope you all follow suit, or at least one of you lol.

Does anyone else find the Rice Krispies Treat Pumpkin in the bottom corner of that ad genuinely frightening? I don’t know why, but it looks like it’s REALLY mad at us for something.
When I was a kid I had a dream that there was a sequel to “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” where the Great Pumpkin actually appeared, and at least until about the age of 13 I actually believed that this sequel existed, and wondered why CBS never showed it.

Posted by
Hellpop! @ 10/13/2006 7:05 PM EDT
IMO, no reason to reserve a Wii. If it’s anything like the DS lite, Gamestop/EB will get a few, then immeadiately sell out on Pre-orders, while Target, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc, will have plenty.

Though I don’t like Rice Krispies, I do on rare occasions take in a Rice Krispie Treat. However, since I’m also not a marshmallow fan, I’ve never actually tried to make one. I think I’ll stick with making pumpkin-shaped cakes instead. I actually do have the equpiment to decorate them, baking being a hobby of mine, but Matt did very well on his own. Some of those pumpkins came out very, very well.

starwenn @ 10/13/2006 8:26 PM EDT
Oh, and I forgot to mention that, until very recently, my mother also had a stack of those seasonal magazines laying around our house. Unfortunatly, I think she kept the recipies she wanted and ditched the rest when she cleared out her house last year.

Me and my son made these, but we dyed the marshmellow goo orange before putting the rice crispies in. then we just did chocolate chip faces. Now we’re watching the great pumpkin dealy on VHS. And it’s all cold and crispy out. I love it~

No, they didn’t fire me, they just needed to cut some hours. Payroll issues — and hey, if it’s for the good of the store, I will gladly give up my 12-7 Saturday shift! Mwuhaha!

We have a freeze warning for tonight. A freeze warning!

It being Friday the Thirteenth today, I was a little disappointed. Granted, my girlfriend and I both called out to work, spent 70% of the day in bed, basically, then pulled it together just to meet friends at the bar. The only “spooky” thing that happened was when, leaving her house prior to the bar, the neighbor’s kitchen light was on. Her neighbor moved out TWO YEARS AGO. The house is vacant. Eh, hardly suffices.
Rice Crispy Treat cereal was the only cereal that only got better the longer you let soak in milk.

Another delicious way to make these is to take a huge marshmallow and cover it in melted caramel. After letting the caramel harden slightly, roll it around in some pre-made krispy treatmeat. Proceed with the rest of Matt’s instructions to make a Rice Krispy Treat covered Caramel Marshmallow pumkin. It is a loong name for a baaadass treat.

Watched “Plan 9 From Outer Space” last night. Interesting premise, aaaaaannd….. That’s about it.
Not the worst movie I ever see’d. That honor goes to “Robot Monster.”
death of most of the lifeforms on Earth, “Ro-man”tic triangle involving a monkeysuithelmet alien guy, a blonde, and Dashing Hero Type. Not to mention the inexplicable bubble machine, and the twist ending was more of a cinematic purple nurple than anything. At least “Faster Pussycat, …” is on next week.

For some reason rice krispie treats was the one thing i could never make. It always came out looking hideous and the krispes all burnt. I guess it’s because i hate working with melted marshmellows. I love em in their solid form, but once melted they kinda attack me like ‘The Blob’.
