Halloween + Beer.

Better an hour or so past deadline than two hours or so past deadline. It's Saturday, I know, but let's consider this as Friday's Halloween Countdown entry, for organization's sake. It's a short, meandering ditty about Halloween's frequent team-ups with beer. I don't know.

Wow, I can't believe we're up to fifteen Countdown articles already. Time to go start preparing next week's batch of goodies. Be good, you.

I second the mention of Post Road Pumpkin Ale. It’s halloweeny-good. Actually, it’s kind of like pumpkin pie in a bottle. But it’s good, good stuff.

I love how if nothing much is happening Mystie is a favorite topic.

Even online I have a commanding presence.

It’s kind of sad considering how pathetic of a life I have, but there’s always some kind of crazy shit going down.

May I just say that the Cryptkeeper pwned Elvira. And all he had to do was employ my very own fighting style. Forget the logic of any argument and insult your opponent at every turn.

My neighbor had one of those Elvira cut-outs back in ’87. I thought it was the coolest thing ever (and I was also 6 at the time). When I was younger I was under the impression that ONLY supermarkets could have displays like that in their posession so if you were able to obtain one you were a god, or something like that…

E! True Hollywood Story tonite is on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Scarface. Thought I’d tell anyone since I don’t know when the new blog is popping up.

The next entry will probably pop up a lot later now that you told me that. Good going. ;)

Hides in a corner to hide from potential angry bloggers.

Besides, Chainsaw Charlie could beat up Leatherface. :)

Washington state, as kb state above, also has the state-run liquor stores. Ours is by the courthouse, which tickles me to no end. We sell beer and wine in the supermarkets though. I don’t drink either, so it’s a moot point to me, though I am on the lookout for that Halloween wine that came out a few years back (Fang? Blood? Something like that). I could use it, sealed, as a decoration.

Spaz- I live in Idaho too and boy am I dissapointed in the beer selection here. I have not been able to find Magic Hat, or Pete’s wicked, and I even have a tough time locating the Sam Adams seasonals….and I’ve never seen Cherry Wheat either. It makes me mad. I grew up in Rhode Island where you can get all of that and more. I also think it’s hysterical that the liquor stores around here are actually named “The Liquor Store”. Wow, I really am bored.

Chestnuts roasted by MissJess @ 10/01/2006 8:49 PM

MissJess, are you close to the Idaho/Washington border? I know I’ve seen at least Pete’s Wicked in the grocery stores. Or if you’re close to Montana I’m SURE there’s decent beer there.

I dunno why I felt obligated to say this but I was just thinking about Dracula: Dead and Loving It just now and fell out of the chair laughing….In my opinion NOT one of Mel Brooks’ better films but its good for pure cheese…and i’m a one cheesy motherfucker….as Chester Cheetah said “its not easy being cheesy….”

I liked the airplane security part and the cubicle fight short, but besides that it wasn’t much to be excited about. What is it about Dane Cook that people like about him anyway? :/

Chestnuts roasted by mjf7583 @ 10/01/2006 11:04 PM

I make occasional (like every other month) beer runs to Jackson, WY. It’s about two hours away. Does that mean I’m an alcoholic or a connoisseur?

Chestnuts roasted by spaz307 @ 10/01/2006 11:16 PM

I laughed at Dane’s Comedy Central Presents… but since then it’s kinda declined. Plus, it’s too easy to agree with Adam. That’s Adam’s job, to buck the crowd, go against the masses. He even did the first Irwin joke that I saw televised. I could be very wrong on that, don’t quote me. It was the first one I saw anyway.

I have a friend who’s a huge Dane fan, and I haven’t came out of the Dane-hatin’ closet yet. Gonna have to eventually. I am NOT going to see Employee of the Month with him, I can tell you that much.

Chestnuts roasted by K- @ 10/01/2006 11:34 PM

K, I know exactly what you mean. I remember a few years ago, telling people I saw a really funny guy do 10 minutes on a Comedy Central special. I thought his name was “Dave something” and I kept saying everyone should check him out. Then I had some kind of mental switch this year, and now I and everyone I know seems to be kinda over him. It’s weird, to have everyone stop being fans of someone all at once. I don’t hate him exactly, but something made me stop liking him. I think the trainwreck of HBO’s “Tourgasm” played a part.

Chestnuts roasted by Welsh Rabbit @ 10/01/2006 11:56 PM

LemonWitch- Unfortunately, I live in Southern Idaho. It seems to be the land of Coors and Bud here. This is not to say that I can’t find perfectly acceptable beer here….I just miss my favorites.

Spaz- That doesn’t make you an alcoholic at all. If you were an alcoholic, you’d either be driving the 2 hours at least once a week, or you’d go to meetings.

I’m a big Dane fan myself. I was actually in the audience at his HBO special and I’ve watched it several times since it aired. That being said, I refuse to go see Employee of the Month…it just doesn’t look that good. Plus, there’s the whole having to sit thru a movie with Jessica Simpson in it. This insomnia thing is for the birds. I’m over it.

Chestnuts roasted by MissJess @ 10/02/2006 4:25 AM

Yeah, the opus of self indulgence and boredom inducement that was Tourgasm didn’t do Cook any favors. His material’s still funny though.

Chestnuts roasted by squee4242 @ 10/02/2006 9:48 AM

All right, folks. You think it’s convenient to buy beer at a grocery store? Obviously y’all haven’t spent much time in the South. There’s nothing like going into your local Exxon On-the-Run and buying a single 16 ounce bottle of Bud for the ride home. Talk about culture shock. Growing up in PA with the Blue Laws (as in no booze sold on Sunday, hard liquor sold by the state at special liquor stores, no grain sold within 20 miles of a college campus), it was very shocking to me, when I was stuck in VA for three days with a blow-out engine, to be able to buy a single bottle of beer. And really cheap smokes.

Beer’s nice and all, but nothing says Fall/Autumn/Halloween like hard cider to me. Give me a nice bottle of Wood Pecker Cider, or the stuff McGillan’s brews themselves down in Philadelphia, and I’m well on my way to a happy drunk.

Late Congrats, Mystie! Awesome.

In Quebec, you can buy beer and wine and wine coolers at any gas station or supermarket- VERY convienient, especially when road-tripping. Now I live in New Brunswick again, and I always ALWAYS forget that you have to go to the damn licqour store to get booze- it sucks when you can’t just pick up alcohol along with your groceries.

Oh yeah, forgot to ask, anybody watch the premiere of Dexter last night (on Showtime, about a forensics analyst/serial killer)? Very well acted, creepy and violent, right up our collective alleys. They followed it up with Joe Dante’s (Gremlins) Masters of Horror, which is on again tomorrow if anyone wants to catch it.

Halloween/Beer Success #4: “Beer” rhymes with “FEAR.”

Chestnuts roasted by Rick Vodicka @ 10/02/2006 11:25 AM

All this talk of beer/liquor sales makes me long for the days I lived in New Orleans. Nothing like having people hand you open containers of alcohol while you sit in your car waiting to pull into traffic. Made up for the fact it was frozen and weak.

I remember awhile back, there was a tie in with Budweiser and Rocky Horror I want to say around 1995, like mid 90s…..basically there just promotional stuff like hats, etc. and I saw one neighborhood bar with the lips logo on little flags and stufff hanging outside. And that was about it…it stunk…
