Halloween + Beer.

Better an hour or so past deadline than two hours or so past deadline. It's Saturday, I know, but let's consider this as Friday's Halloween Countdown entry, for organization's sake. It's a short, meandering ditty about Halloween's frequent team-ups with beer. I don't know.

Wow, I can't believe we're up to fifteen Countdown articles already. Time to go start preparing next week's batch of goodies. Be good, you.

hey Mystie!!! I love stories about people getting noticed for their skills from their blog/site and getting a job out of it!! Now only if someone would do that with me…hmmm…

Can we see the page with the photos on it? And if it’s not too nosey how much was the check in the mail for?

And I am basically quitting my job. I am supposed to get a 200 dollar bonus for working 3 months that I am getting next week so I am working until I get that and then I am out of there. I have 2 job interviews already lined up for more money then this job and it’s just their expectations are too high so I would eventually get fired so it’s the prinicpal of it. I don’t want to get fired eventually for not going fast enough with the calls (it’s a call center, they have a really fast hold time that I decided that is impossible for me to do without being a total jackass and cutting people off and hanging up on them) so I called in sick on friday, this was my day off, and I think I have to call in sick tomorrow. I am so tired, emotionally tired, physically tired.

It’s saturday night. And I’m feeling alright. I’ve got the house locked up tight, because it’s all mine tonight.

So yeah, this week was long. But doing nothing requiring effort on my part for 24 hours has made the twice-baked death feeling cease. But bringing back the sadness is remembering that I too live in the Poconos of Transylpennsylvania, and deprived of fancy beer displays. Bringing things back to where they were is this XE article, and what looks like a 13-0 Mets victory.

Yeah, no booze in Delaware’s grocery stores either. Although we don’t have the added suckiness of state-owned liquor stores. And I can’t ever move, because most other states have sales tax on stuff. Fuck THAT.

The local mini-chain of Iron Hill Brewery restaurants makes a pumpkin ale this time of year too. I don’t like beer, but the food is great and you can see all the beer tanks and kettles and whatnot through a glass wall. Not that beer does anything exciting while it’s being made.

Today I went and got some delicious pumpkin ice cream from the local dairy farm, and it couldn’t taste any better if Satan himself had made it. Woohoo Halloween!

Went to Target today and had a Pitch Black Icee. Consider me underwhelmed. I think I prefer my drinks more slushie than icee.

Also bought all of the Halloween Jones Sodas (minus candy corn, blech). Can’t wait to try them. Wish they brought back Strawberry Slime.

They had some cool but expensive stuff in the Halloween section, mostly of the animatronic variety.

But I was kind of depressed that they also had Christmas stuff out, too. There’s no doubt in my mind the Halloween aisle is gonna disappear before Halloween.

K- Can i just ask..seen as this is now SNT.

On the 9/25 in reply to me asking why you should jump on the matrix reference you quoted…

“Apparently you don’t know me as well as you think you do, my dear boy”

When did i say i knew you well? I never said i knew you at all.

Chestnuts roasted by Dan @ 09/30/2006 11:48 PM

Dan, you’re putting way too much thought into it. Honestly.

Has anyone heard/watched Mannhiem Steamroller’s Monster Mash Video/song? Whoa is that guys voice disturbing (the anti-Nate Dogg).

Chestnuts roasted by Ranger Joe @ 09/30/2006 11:57 PM

I was just wondering that’s all.

Plus i’ve been drinking tonight lol. Just got home and watched Nightmare on elm st 1st.

So, um, blame that.

And yes, i edited this a few time for spelling.

Chestnuts roasted by Dan @ 10/01/2006 12:05 AM

To clarify, I typically jump on excuses to talk about the Matrix. You made a Matrix reference, therefore there was a greater than 0 probability that I would use it as a springboard. I chose not to. It had nothing to do with you specifically just any Matrix reference of any kind.

You saying that you didn’t expect me to jump on anything, only demonstrated that you weren’t aware of my proclivities. That’s not a bad thing, it’s not anything at all. So I just lifted your “dear” usage and basically commented on that fact in a way I am prone to do (i.e., silly/nonsensically/dare I say wiseass-edly).

If you’ve taken more than a second to think about anything I’ve said, you’re thinking too much. I sincerely apologize for any confusion.

Relax and enjoy the SNT :)

I love how if nothing much is happening Mystie is a favorite topic. (Congratulations!)

Chestnuts roasted by Katherine @ 10/01/2006 12:14 AM

Don’t worry about it.

I’m relaxed. To be honest i only made it through 3/4 of Nightmare on Elm st, just isn’t the same as it was when i was a kid.

But hearing your explation for the Matrix shiskabak helped. Thought it was some sort of personal vendetta about me at first, yeah i’m slightly paranoid lol.

Anyone watch the season premire of SNL?

Besides Dane Cook’s monologue…wow. It was actually Funny?!?

Pretending Naruto games are good is like pretending Dane Cook is funny. Stop deluding yourself, people!!!

unofficial snt
nobody’s around

Chestnuts roasted by Spoodles @ 10/01/2006 10:16 AM

I’m around, playing Maroon 5 and Elton John songs on the radio at 7:45am, while pretending to be excited this early in the morning. I wish I had something productive to add to this convo.. but um yeah guess I don’t.

Oh yeah.. I live in Cali and love having beer displays in grocery stores, drug stores, liquor stores obviously. I can’t imagine not having them. I used to work in a drug store and sold beer along with tampons and never even thought about it. You poor states with state sanctioned alchohol rules.

Chestnuts roasted by dj lisas @ 10/01/2006 10:50 AM

I have to say, I Pennsylvania’s way of selling alcohol is a pain in the ass. Not being able to go to a convenient grocery store or gas station and get beer sucks. Plus I bet it’s uber-expensive, since SOMEBODY has to pay to keep the lights on, to rent the building, and pay the clerk.

On the flip side, I bet the selection is better than here in Idaho. I’m originally from Kansas, and out there we sell beer in grocery stores AND liquor stores. The selection at the grocery stores in both states is similar- you can get Bud, Coors, Corona, Rolling Rock, Miller, etc. and 4 or 5 “microbrews” that can be found all over the parts of the country I’ve been to. Also, you can get a few “imports” like Heineken and Beck’s. Back home, if you wanted a real selection, you went to a liquor store.

Here in Idaho, they split it up. You go to a liquor store for hard stuff, and a grocery store or gas station for beer. The selection at the grocery stores is paltry at best. Plus, I think it’s all 3-2 beer; at least it seems like I can drink more of it.

I guess what really upsets me is that my two favorite beers are unavailable in Idaho. I can drive a couple of hours and get Warsteiner in Wyoming, but I can’t get my hands on Honey Brown ANYWHERE out here.

Awesome article. Pumpkin beer and Halloween a party does make. Check out Post Road Pumpkin Ale, it’s seriously the best mid-range Halloweenish beer you can pick up.

Though it’s still early
I see there are folks around
Sunday Morning Thread

Booze in every store
Though BevMo is hard to beat
Any brand you want
(Seriously, I can’t even go into that place without wanting to spend hundreds of $$$ on fancy hooch)

Mystie caught a break
It’s been a long time coming
But it’s well deserved :)

Did anyone else
Watch the Lost clip show this week?
Clever narrator

Someone should stop me
Because I’ll do this all day
And that would be lame

Heh heh. I still have a Bud Kepper my dad got from a bar. I still put him out on Halloween as well.

I’m so having SLC Punk flashbacks with all this beer talk. And of course Jon Favreau looking his most Adam Duritz, picking his nose in a parking lot somewhere…
