09/02/2006: Roseanne’s Halloween DVD YES YES!

I think I’ve found the greatest DVD in history, and I am absolutely serious. Then again, I thought the same thing last year when The He-Man & She-Ra Christmas special came out. And then even just a short while back when The Wizard nailed a release. Still, this may top ‘em all:

Awwww fuck yeah, a DVD containing each and every Halloween episode of Roseanne. Now, I love the show, but I realize that this is not an opinion shared universally. Between off-screen antics and a final season that can be held accountable for at least forty suicide cases, I understand that Roseanne is an object of polarization among would-be critics. On the other hand, nobody could argue that the show wasn’t the very best sitcom in history as far as Halloween episodes went. From Darlene sprouting a fleshy alien through her belly to Dan dressing as a kind of Jason/Leatherface hybrid, all seven Roseyweens are here, and the star even provides audio commentary as a bonus feature.

I’ll hold off on a more in-depth look until the Halloween Countdown rolls around, but just know that the DVD is out now and dirt cheap. It’s easy to spot, too, since few other DVD boxes feature anything that looks like a pumpkin with Roseanne’s face carved into it.

I wasn’t expecting to post twice today, so let’s consider today’s earlier post the Saturday Day Thread, and this one the Saturday Night Thread. Even though I’m posting this in the afternoon. Yeah.

Well it’s the whole sweet salty combo with a Halloween twist.

IHAQ: :D I dunno if it was the hair for me (though I did go through a phase where if a guy had short hair, I wouldn’t even look at him lol, now it’s pretty much the opposite, most of the time) but I just thought he was adorable. :) And he was bloody funny! I liked the mix of the shyness, sensitivity and gullibility, I guess. :D

I’m more fond of the candy pumpkins than the candy corn.

Go for it, candy pumpkins and peanuts, candy corn and peanuts, either way, just do it! Though the candy pumpkins might add like double the candy corn action in one bite, so eat more peanuts.

Candy Pumpkins rock. ROCK.

I was in Walgreens today. They had all kinds of Halloween crap. I also went to Hobby Lobby, which had some sort of unholy mix of fall/halloween/thanksgiving/Christmas stuff.

Question for those that have the Talespin DVDs: Do they have subtitles (I’m assuming so, since the Ducktales ones did)? Also, is “Plunder and Lightning” (the Pilot) present as a movie, or four separate episodes?

yesterday my dad was talking about how his secretary brought in a cake and peanuts for someone’s birthday or something. apparently cake and peanuts is something of a traditional combination for her. I don’t like the sound of that one, but I’m willing to open a year old bag of candy corn I have to give the candy corn/peanuts combo a try. Not right now though, because I just finished eating a bunch of old winter edition mr. goodbars. I can’t figure out where I’m getting all this old stuff from.

Well, at least we know where the “old candy” fairy is these days. :)

Ghosted by Ryane @ 09/03/2006 12:58 AM EDT

well if you do that you should probably use some really old peanuts for consistantcy

Ghosted by Fox @ 09/03/2006 1:01 AM EDT

unfortunately, I’m pretty confident that could be arranged. there’s probably some behind the bags of conversation hearts. those, for the record, will never be eaten.

Yes, ctrl-c/ctrl-v come in very handy any time you’re posting. LJ taught me that long ago. I’ve never had major (nongreymatter) issues posting here though.
Don’t know if anyone else finds is Halloween-y, but Ed Wood is playing on IFC Tuesday.
OMG this Roseanime thing on Nick @ Nite is nuts. Very funny.

I came upon your website by accident the other day, stumbling onto your review of Corey Haim’s Me, Myself and I. I feel that I need to tell you that this site is hilarious, I love it. I’ve spent hours just reading old blog entries. So, uh, thanks I guess.

I tried to throughly use up my valuable Saturday. My friend says I should get overtime for working on Monday so cool beans to that! I am saving up for the 22-23-24 weekend which is the Oaks Park ocktoberfest. Sweet. I actually said cool beans to a customer on friday and they were like yeah whatever lol. Anyway I had a fairly good time going garage sailing. It’s actually one of the cheapest forms of entertainment I can think of that is why I go every week. My best friend tells me after the fact if I bought a POS or not lol. Whatev.

What did I buy? A fondue pot with the forks and the plug and everything with a set of four sundae multi colored heavy duty cups for 5 bucks. I said I want those cups how much for both. 5 for both? okay! She marked the fondue pot 7 and the cups 50 cents a piece lol. These ppl blow my mind.

Anyway, I bought a zip up travel putter with one of those curved things you put a golf ball into that you see big wigs play with in their office in movies and a sealed harry potter 250 piece puzzle 5 bucks both. And a really unusual corny who wants to be a millioniare mug for a quarter. Maybe my grandma might like it but I want to collect funny unusual random mugs so if she doesn’t want it no skin off my back. I bet there are millions out there but some are cool.

And a quick story. I have a red shirt with white writing that says “you know you want it” kinda as a joke. I bought it during valentines for like 5 bucks at walmart and wear it quite frequently. Anyway, there was this guy well into his 60’s I was walking around him and he inspected my chest (reading what it said I hope only) and then he went up to me and said “yes I do but don’t tell my wife!” I asked what he was talking about and he wrote a line in the air with his finger where the words were. I did this fake laugh and tried to get away from him ASAP that guy was creepy but in a funny way. Mind you I am a lesbian, my hair is short and if anyone has any street sense they would realize I am a butch dyke. I am not pissed though.

Halloween is sweet I can’t wait. I think my best friend thinks I am insane but I can’t wait until wednesday to go shopping so I can go to target! I love jones cola and those limited edition thanksgiving boxes and what not are definitely worth buying for display purposes. I love the simpsons but I am afraid that I might have to not buy the rosanne dvd’s for fear of getting teased by my best friend. I have been a shall I say hardcore? Fan of the simpsons for years. When I was a kid I would throw a temper tantrum if I saw a cheap thing with bart’s face on it or something so my grandma would buy it. She eventually would be like “i know the drill, do you want one of each or just pick one for now?” If I have ever had a bad day I would watch an episode this might sound sick but they have always been there for me. I have been a fan since I was 8. When I turned 10 one of the first things my aunt said to me was “hey your as old as bart now! cool huh?”

This is way too long. Take care everybody and have a good weekend.

I can’t wait to go to my Mom-Moms house, she’s gonna have those Brachs candy Pumkins in her old lady candy dishes soon…YAY! Then they’ll sit there til christmas candy comes…stale old lady candy for the win! BTW, im currently looking for a cute Halloween costume for my 5 month old Shih Tzu. Petsmart has halloween hats for 5 bucks, Hood with glitter devil horns, a lady bug /antennae or a pumkin hat….I MIGHT just get her this Hot dog costume for 15 bucks….it has a kechup squiggly on it with a matching red leash!

The only thing sucky about Roseanne is whenever you watch a rerun,it’s always a very special episode where the baby could be born sick or Jackie’s boyfriend beats her, never one of the funny ones. The serious ones were OK in context, but watching them “one-off” isn’t very fun.
One of the cool things is how David and Darlene are big comic book fans, and their shirts and posters and stuff really are of cool comics real fans actually like. Stuff like Sandman,Milk and Cheese, and JTHM. It shows that the people involved either actually like comics,or bothered to take time to research it. It makes it more realistic. Sort of like Home Improvement (coming up a lot in this thread) when Mark was into the goth scene, they didn’t just slap a Marilyn Manson shirt on him and call it a day. I actually remember him wearing a Carpe Noctem T-shirt,which was a pretty obscure magazine at the time.
Since I was a teenager around the same time these shows aired,it made the characters seem more like real people I would know, not like some lame “kids these days have nose earrings!” stereotypes.

What is Roseanne doing nowadays anyway? Even her ex-husband was doing more stuff. (then again how can you take the Best Damn Sports Show Period seriously?)

I do recall some of those very special episodes. I think that it’s a good thing that we’ve gotten over the whole idea by making modern comedies more progressive in nature. I think that it’s more fun to mock serious issues than to tackle them head on anyway, it just provides for humor. I remember reading that the people who worked on Seinfeld did not want any of those types of episodes in their series, and I know Family Guy has parodied them on several occasions.

Heh, I remember the Milk and Cheese shirt but I can’t seem to recollect the JtHM. The Roseanne offspring + David were definitely some of the most realistic/identifiable sitcom kids. Even annoying Becks had her moments.
What are some other sitcoms with great, believable kids? Malcolm in the Middle and Arrested Development spring to mind.
I remember watching Roseanne’s extremely short-lived reality show. It got preempted one week and never came back. No idea what she’s up to now besides recording commentaries.

I haven’t been to my local Target yet so I don’t know what they have in terms of Halloween, but yesterday I was hanging out with a friend down in Orlando and we went Target-ing and Walmart-ing, and they had plenty of Halloween stuff. Saw the Jones soda at Target and some awesome candy and decorations at Walmart (Gummy body parts! Hells yeah.)

Does anyone else enjoy setting off an entire display of those musical/screaming decorations at once, or is that just me?

I’m thinking about that Roseanne DvD now…its 10.99 at best buy. hmmmm

Cameron T. – The TaleSpin DVDs have Plunder and Lightening as 4 seperate episodes. It also has subtitles. That’s about it, though. No frills or anything.

And Goob, I’m just glad to know I’m not the only chick on the internet that likes writing about shit from the Dollar Store AND boobies.

Ghosted by Mystie @ 09/03/2006 1:05 PM EDT

Off-topic: Does anyone remember the name of that stuff Nickelodeon made in the 90s that was a combination of Play-Doh and with little foam pebbles in it? The reason I ask is that yesterday I spotted a vending machine that sold little eggs of stuff that reminded me of that product.

Guess I should start watching Roseanne again. All I did last night was watch my DVD of Masters of Horror: Sick Girl. Pretty good, if a little cheesy.

JLAJRC – Floam.

Ghosted by Mystie @ 09/03/2006 1:26 PM EDT

I heard Joe Dante did an excellent Masters of Horror.
Speaking of, um, boobies, I spent the afternoon yesterday watching Memoirs of a Geisha. Movie’s a bit slow, and it’s not exactly a feminist manifesto, but that Ziyi Zhang is a stone fox. Gong Li’s quite the babe too.

Mystie

Thanks. I’m hearing impaired, so subtitles are a must. I actually have every TaleSpin Episode on VHS (I recorded it when it was on the Disney Channel), but I’m looking forward to having them on a more stable format. Too bad they didn’t put out Plunder and Lightening as one movie, though…

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 09/03/2006 2:42 PM EDT

JLAJRC: They are making Floam once again. TRU, Target, and Michael’s have it, I know. It’s rather expensive: 6.99 for one tub of it, or 9.99 for 3 smaller tubs, each a different color. I’m sure there are other combo’s out there, too.

Ghosted by Ryane @ 09/03/2006 3:17 PM EDT

They also sell Floam on TV all the time, and if you call now, we’ll DOUBLE the order.

Hallowe’en Boobies!
I’m gonna take ‘em behind the bushes!

This is the last Sunday of the season I’m at work. The Gallery is going to Winter hours. Bye-bye extra pay! But I am saving a little her and there toward some spooky stuff. And maybe a new TV.

What cool is when you can get a row of the singing ones, with the help of some pals, to all go off in sync. Then get out of there as non-chalantly as possible.
