Well, I’m curious to know how everyone organizes their DVD/VHS collections, if that sparks conversation. I used to seperate by TV and movies, but then where does MST3K: The Movie go? I’m trying alphabetical now, and it’s okay, but Deperado is miles away from Once Upon A Time In Mexico so it’s still not the best solution. I know some of you have collections to be envied; how do y’all do it?

Trilogies go together: Matrix, Reloaded, Revolutions. Menace, Clones, Sith, Hope, Empire, Jedi.

I also have individual sections for my Keanu movies, my John Cusack movies, and my Rachael Leigh Cook movies. But within those subdivisions they are still broken down alphabetically, except where there are sequels and or trilogies, etc. For example Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey are next to each other under B for Bill.

That’s how I do it. I’d like to do it autobiographically one day, though :)

Last album: Dirty Diamonds, by Alice Cooper (but it changes quickly)
Last book: Phantom, by Terry Goodkind
Last TV Show: The news. I forget which channel.
Last movie at home: Shamus (not very good.)
Last movie in theatre: Pirates of the Carribean 2
Last video game: Shadow Hearts: From the New World

And to answer Squee’s question, though my own collection isn’t that large, I order it in “logical” order. Alphabetical by title, except when things belong together. I.e., El Mariachi, Desperado, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico would all be together as “El Mariachi trilogy”.

My DVD collection has a simple system: DVD cases are placed on the floor wherever they fall; DVD discs are placed in the case of the most recently viewed DVD.

Btw, did any of you fuckers borrow my Risky Business DVD?

Today I got caught in a baseball sized hail storm. Scariest thing ever. I was in my car and all my windows either broke or completely smashed in. All’s good now, but I was acting like a little baby and I thought I was gonna die. Thankfully all I ended up with were some cuts on my hands and arms.
Now to the funky survey!
Last album: U2 greatist hits
Last book: Metro Girl
Last TV Show: Minnesota Twins vs. Baltimore Oriles, sp?
Last movie at home: Shaggy Dog
Last movie in theatre: Barnyard

Do you think maybe you could post some kind of a farewell to our beloved planet Pluto? You know, it’s not a planet anymore. I’m going to miss Pluto. Now we can’t say “My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas.” We have to say, “My Very EVIL Mother Just Served Us NOTHING!”

Chestnuts roasted by Brandon @ 08/25/2006 1:42 AM

I’m still holding out hope that they’ll TAKE IT BACK and let us keep our Pluto.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 08/25/2006 1:43 AM

Hope you feel better soon Matt.

I just got done watching the Crispin Glover version of “Willard” on IFC. It’s awesome. Last night I watched for the first time in 10 years “Trilogy of Terror 2.” on HBO. Evil Tiki Doll rules.

Chestnuts roasted by JLAJRC @ 08/25/2006 1:44 AM

Oh, I’m okay. Just beat. :)

And evil Tiki dolls generally do rule.

- Album: From start to finish, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
- Book: Marilyn Hacker’s “Love, Death, and the Changing of the Seasons.” If you count comics, it’d be Swamp Thing – The Curse trade paperback.
- TV show: Pilot episode of Who’s The Boss?
- Movie at home: Can’t remember, but do movies watched in class count? Last one was the original King Kong.
- Movie in a theatre: POTC 2. Gonna see SoaP this weekend.
- Video game: Gradius (NES).

Thomas: “This is a trivia question: What is the first movie to be promoted using a McDonald’s Happy Meal? (Hint: it was NOT a Disney movie!)”

Twas ‘Star Trek the Movie’ my friend. Nothing says ‘Intergalatic Space Travel’ like good ol Nuggets, Fries and barbeque sauce.

And as for DVD collection organization it depends on what your purpose of it is.
If your collection is relatively small it would probably be best to keep them in order of most watched (i.e. Might as well keep Matrix, Fight Club and Airplane together while In-Laws, Duplex and Rookie of the Year would be further down. As it grows, you can try different ways to organize, maybe alphabetical, many by director/actor, maybe chronological, or by genre and so on. Once it gets too big (myself it’s 400+ at this point) alphabetical is a must. It would be very simple for someone to borrow one of my dvds without me knowing and if it weren’t alphabetical, I’d be hard pressed to know which one is gone. I also have an animated section, TV Box Set section, Movie Box set section (Trilogies not in boxes can still go here ie Naked Gun, El Mariachi, American Pie etc), and Best of SNL DVDs.
Once you get going with the collection you’ll find something that works best for you though.

So, what does everyone think of astronomers declaring Pluto a non-planet? I think it sucks.
I remember the the memory sentence Beakman told us to help us remember the order of the planets. “My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas.” What will the new memory sentence be?

RIP Pluto. You’ll always be a planet to us non-astronomers.

What’s this about pluto? What’s this about Matt being up at 2:12 AM?

Chestnuts roasted by dohopoki @ 08/25/2006 2:21 AM

People have no respect these days. Honestly. And you wonder why I strike out at you.

Don’t make me share my Mnemonic devices. They’re dirty, but you’ll remember them, oh yes. My favorite is either the one for Kingdom, Phylum, Class…. or the 12 cranial nerves. Never made one for the planets though.

Chestnuts roasted by Knegative @ 08/25/2006 2:33 AM

Album listened to: Depeche Mode Speak and Spell
Book read–If this means last book FINISHED,then the 3rd Batman/Superman trade paperback. If it means the book I’m reading right now,the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed novelization. (prose novel, not manga)
TV Show–The Office
Movie watched at home: King Kong (original black and white movie)
Movie seen at the theatre: X-Men 3 The Last Stand
Video Game played: Super Robot Taisen Original Generation

Dohopoki-the world science community got toghether to decide once and for all what celestial bodies are planents. Pluto didn’t make the grade.

I’d hate to be Greek then, Plutus is going to be pissed… Was he the one who could freeze people or the flaming skeleton head with the spear?

Chestnuts roasted by dohopoki @ 08/25/2006 2:42 AM

You’re thinking of Mortal Kombat.
