August Megaparty #11: ssdsdsdsd

Yeah, so, I'm kind of plowed and I don't have much in me to write at the moment. I'll give you a superstar entry tomorrow. Because I only promised to post every day, I have not broken my vow. Take that.

May as well make a survey out of this: Discuss your favorite fowls of pop culturedom. From Scrooge to Ace Duck.

Loved the site for quite a long time, so I figured to finally start posting.

To me it’s a huge grouping of Ducks.

Wade Duck – Any duck that has some many phobias he has them listed in a file cabinet is A-Okay in my book.

Darkwing – Because I was obsessed with him.

Launchpad – Dude can barely fly and has the charm to stay heavily employed by someone like Scrooge.

Scrooge – Does he personafy hip-hop or what? No one get’s between him and his money.

other forgotten ducks would be Mother Goose, The duck on Little Bear or Franklin, and of course the Mighty Ducks (The lame cartoon and not the amazing movies).

I have great fondness for the Disney Ducks as well, especially all involved with Duck Tales; I HATED when the school bus was late getting me home and I’d miss my daily dose of Duck Tales (say that 3 times fast!). Also, there was (or maybe still is?) this great buzzard at Six Flags over Georgia. I ‘think’ his name is Bufford Buzzurd and he was the coolest damn cat…er bird in the whole park.

The Disney Afternoon was full of ducks through most of its run, and most of them ruled.

And as I’m a University of Oregon grad, I have to mention the UO’s mascot, the Fighting Duck, the only college mascot to ever be allowed into Disneyland. (He was patterned after Donald, based on a handshake agreement in the 50s.)
I thought it WAS Donald. It looks exactly like his classic form. It was in a Disney trivia book that "the University of Oregon is the only college sports team allowed to have Donald Duck as its mascot."

Was Ace Duck ever actually ON the Ninja Turtles cartoon show?? I remember the figure well, but never recall actually seeing him on the show!

The first story my father ever read to me was one of his Uncle Scrooge comics. Carl Barks’s ducks have had a great influence on my life, to the point where I was actually too much of a snob at age six to enjoy DuckTales. To this day, when you say the name I think of the NES game.

Recently I was reintroduced to Don Rosa’s revisionist / reconstructive take on the Barks mythos. The sheer amount of history he worked into Uncle Scrooge’s life is astounding; find his collection, it’s worth it.

And yet, if I had to choose a favorite– it would be Gyro Gearloose, because he had one of the best quotes of all time, one that greatly sums up my own life and probably yours: "I’ll just look normal until nobody’s looking!"

Hi, everyone! I can think of two "fowls of pop culturedom" yet unmentioned: Orville and Wilbur of "The Rescuers" and "The Rescuers Down Under," respectively. But for my personal favorite, there was little doubt in my head that it would be the terror that flaps in the night, the winged scourge that pecks at your nightmares, the grade curve that gives you an "F," the bubble gum that clings to your shoe, the smelly old anchovy on the pizza of inequity, the spinach that sticks to your teeth, the cholesterol that clogs your arteries, the burned-out bulb you cannot reach, the meter on the cab of justice, the dog that relieves itself on the front lawn of crime… to paraphrase Larry the Cable Guy, I could do this all night.

I’m not sure if anyone already mentioned this one, but I’m going to have to go with Duckman: Private Dick/Family Man.

No love for Virgil from Mighty Max’s TV show?

How about the seagulls from Finding Nemo? Mine, Mine, Mine!

And of course, Superchicken.

All I know is that Chanticleer from Rock-a-Doodle is the only rockabilly-singing rooster to be named after a character in the Canterbury Tales. And if getting a huge kick out of that is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.

I will cast my vote for Howard the Duck as well. The scene where the alien guy sticks his tongue onto a cigarette lighter to replenish his energy has to be one of my all-time favorites. Plus, he knew karate and chicks were all over him.

Chicken Run gets a nod, but no one has mentioned Feathers McGraw yet? For shame!

I knew I was forgetting an important one! Gotta add Duckman to my list.Tim Curry’s King Chicken is probably the only clucker I’d include. Also, Jemima Puddleduck and the family from Make Way For Ducklings. Mr. Popper’s Penguins! Hedwig is pretty cool, but little Pidwigeon is my real fav. I wish he was mine. I wonder if Buckbeak can be counted as fowl. Ooh, how about the rummy stork that was always fucking up deliveries (Tom and Jerry)? I always felt bad for Wile E., but you gotta give props to the Roadrunner.
Seriously, reading Harry Potter there are lots of things I covet, but a tiny, spastic owl that delivers my messages is near the top.
There are still so many that haven’t come up! I’m amazed. (I can’t recall about Franklin, but Little Bear has the one actually named Duck).

here’s one everyone forgot- Chicken Boo from Animaniacs. " He’s not a man, he’s a chicken boo". It was so obvious to even kids that he was a chicken badly dressed up that it was hilarious. Oh, but Robot Chicken gets my vote.

No love for the AFLAC duck? :)

Are Penguins fowl? If so, don’t forget Burgess Meredith, Chilly Willy, and the March of the Penguins

Although they’re not fowl, Hitchcock’s "Birds" movies can be added to a "killer animal" movies

Lets try that again.

Ben: I read through all the comments and feared the lack of love for Chicken Boo. He’s one of my all time favorites.

Unfortunately, I must vote for the Goodfeathers. They were always the animated birds that stood out to me most in my childhood. Heck, my very first (and still used s/n) was/is GoodFeathers (I spelled it wrong the first time and have since added a space). They had spunk, comedic timing, they were cute and sassy, and they got to crap on a giant statue of Regis Philbin. What’s not to love? ^_^

Shout outs to Feathers McGraw and Count Duckula, but my mad props go to Foghorn Leghorn – "I say, this boy’s about as sharp as a bowlin’ ball", "If the kid don’t stop talking so much he’ll get his tongue sunburned" and many other great quotes.

Also if we’re going to take fowl in its wider sense, what about Iago from Aladdin?

yeah, DArth, i did a search after i posted, and saw that acticle. i wouldnt really call him an obsure figure though. essentially, if you were a figure from the first 4 series’, then everyone and their mom had one.

in all honesty, i dont recall ace duck ever being on the show.

but i do distinctly remember ace being in the turtles 3 nintendo game. after you beat the surfing level, there is a cut-scene where ace duck picks them up in the blimp and takes them to the golden gate bridge. awesome! and in my mind, that was enough reason to justify a figure.

I think it would be cool if they remaid duck tails but give it a little more serious approach, make it more of an adventure were lauch pad is actually the tough body gaurd instead of being such an ass. Make Scrooge like the smart profeser and the boys the boys, each having his own talent and specialty. Think Jhonny quest!

KAHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN CHICKEN

Duckman by far

Chestnuts roasted by Paul @ 08/12/2006 1:51 PM

Okay, so, I tried to post this last night, to no avail. I’ve moved location now so here goes.

I must say that King Chicken is by far my favorite cartoon fowl. If for no other reason than he was voiced by Tim Curry. And, of course I can’t forget my beloved Chicken Boo!

Okay….I feel better now.

Road Runner
Woody Woodpecker
Robot Chicken
The Sorceress of Castle Greyskull
Henry Cabot Henhouse III (aka Super Chicken)
Foghorn Leghorn
Gyro Gearloose
Toucan Sam (beore all this "adventures with his nephews" crap)
Sonny the Coo-coo bird (Coo-coo for Coco Puffs? No! Retarded!)
Jekyll & Hyde Tweety Bird
That Parrot from "Electric Company" (It’s the plumber, he’s come to fix the sink!)

I never loved Chicken Boo because I felt sorry for the one guy/girl who always saw through his ruses that everybody else ganged up on. Great theme song however. Did love the Goodfeathers, though of course I didn’t see Goodfellas until years later so much was lost on me.
Darth P, wrong kind of brackets. You have to use html code so it’s a bit harder to do a link but if you just paste the url it becomes a link automatically…this might just change when the new bells and whistles come in however, so feel free to disregard :)
