07/30/2006: The Freddy Krueger Board Game!

I’d normally wait until Sunday night to put this up, but Sunday’s shaping up to be incredibly busy and annoying, so let’s do it early and call it a reason to celebrate. I’ve had this really odd A Nightmare on Elm Street board game sitting around forever, and I’ve finally gotten around reviewing it. I’m pretty happy with the article, if only because I had this total “oh shit” feeling before writing it, thinking I wouldn’t have much to say. It turns out that I had enough to say; then again, if you scoured the review and removed “Freddy” and “Krueger” throughout, there’d only be four or five words left. But they’d be good words. Anyway, crap game, but fun to look at. Also comes with a bonus section about a Freddy Krueger figure. Crap figure, but fun to look at.

Making a note that will seem totally irrelevant a day after today, please feel free to continue playing with the SNT below if you’re looking to talk about something other than Freddy Krueger.

JoshC: I think I have an ad for those things too. When I get home I’ll dig it up for you.

Muppet Baby: I’m sad to hear that you’re so sick. I hope you get well very soon.

X-E,

First of all thanks to Matt for allowing me to jack the thread for my own personal agenda and thanks to Jedoc, Fox, Cameron T, Deuce, Invader Norbert, Hoverbored and Kingklash. After reviewing the Cemetery names and seeing the responses and various other feedback on this topic I have picked a winner of sorts. Congrats to Jedoc for the suggestion Buried Treasure. This will be the name, I like it and think I can take the name and create a theme. It will also work because my wife I and are dressing like Pirates this year.
I will also be using some other suggestions as signage for the cemetery. I think I am going to create an IHOC: International House of Corpses, (thanks Hoverbored), sign as well as The vintage formal wear and slightly used coffins sale signs. I wish I could send you all prizes and maybe I will be able to come up with something in the near future for Jedoc but since my Halloween budget is ZERO dollars, it might be hard to do. I will definitely take some pictures and hopefully be able to post them somewhere, maybe with Matt on this fine site?? Anyway, thanks again and I will be sure to keep everyone informed as to the progress of my newly named Cemetery, Buried Treasure.

That Freddy figure looks like a 80’s rap-artist Jimmy Durante with bad acne scars.

If I were to play this game, I’d probably just be the Nice Guy and my stories would involve banging the cheerleader. This goes to show just how seriously I’d take the rules of this game.

Tigerfan: Think nothing of it. The opportunity to spout off that many horrible puns in a row without getting something heavy thrown at my head is reward enough.

Shark Week begins! Huzzah!

JLAJRC: That village is cool! If it wasn’t for the "screamingly scary" price, I’d probably suscribe!

Muppet Baby: Hope you get to feeling better. I have an uncle who has Krone’s, but I don’t think it’s hit him too hard yet.

Knegative, I used to have SHRIEKS AND CREAKS. I got it while on vacation to N.C. I really creeped me out. I bought it on ebay about 2 years ago but I haven’t played it. I took it to school to show the kids but the TALKING TOMBSTONE let me down. It works fine now but let me down on the day of the big show. :(

Muppet Baby, I hope you feel better soon. :)

I just bought two board games this weekend. The Xbox was getting kinda old as sole party entertainment. We bought Scene It : Horror Edition and Taboo. let me just say, that even though it is ultra simple, Taboo is now my favorite game. We played that game until we ran out of cards (front and back 256 cards total) and beer. I would definitely recommend it.

Tigerfan, you can check out Photobucket or Flickr for all your photohosting needs (Photobucket if you’re new to the game, it’s great for beginners, Flickr if you’re looking for more options).
My TV is very busy recording Shark Week programming. They aren’t even rerunning all that much from last year! I might be over Great Whites by the end of the week, but I doubt it…I’m most looking forward to the Dirty Jobs specials, and the one about sharkdiving in the Sea of Cortez.

Was this another game just packaged with the Freddy license to sell it? The pieces look too silly and happy to be involved in a Freddy game….

Feel better Muppet Baby. I’d say I hope you’re able to sneak out of your room again to get in some X-E, but I’d much rather hope you’ll be home soon enjoying it from there. :D

Manimal, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one to enjoy S&C, or have trouble w/the tombstone from time to time. I’ve been remembering some great things of late, kudos to Matt for unlocking those memories.

Why is an empty grave something to fear??? Shouldn’t Gramps be worried about him being IN the grave?

Ghosted by Steve @ 07/31/2006 11:52 PM EDT

Oh man, you know Freddy was destined to be a psycho killer if you just look at his garage. Not only is his garden hose coiled up all nice and neat but he has his step ladder hung on special step ladder hooks. No normal person has a garage like that.

And joke or not, Empty Grave is a FUCKING AWESOME Army nickname for grandpa. He was such a badass, remember when he punched that Kraut’s head in? The guy was attacking that French girl, and ol’ Empty Grave saved her. He said she should see the sun rise over New York City, and that’s why your grandma has that accent that used to embarrass you at the supermarket. You selfish little bastard.

Yup, ready for Halloween, 100%. And happy because the August Megaparty will lead us right into the Halloween season, which of course starts on SEPTEMBER 1st, BABY!

I can’t believe how fast this year’s gone by.

Also, had to stop at the grocery store earlier tonight to buy toothbrushes and pretty smelling things for stupid business trip, and there it was…a whole big display of Halloween candy, dead center in the store. I’m all for starting early, but who the hell stocks up on trick-or-treat bags of M&M’s in late July? I mean, besides us?

Here’s to sweater weather and Charlie Brown rocks!

Those character player pieces look like what it would look like if Nightmare on Elm Street was a cartoon short on Nickelodeon’s Pinwheel.

Ghosted by Luap @ 08/01/2006 1:09 AM EDT

I really got nothing to add for this thread, but it would’ve been funny to see the double decker walls in any Elm St (or any) movie at all.

Ghosted by Invader Norbert @ 08/01/2006 1:52 AM EDT

Wow, I feel like the biggest loser saying this but, did anyone else realize that the address on the collectible figurines was wrong? They have it as 842 Elm, when (in the movies) it was 1428 Elm! I just finished my Nightmare marathon (Nightmares 1-6, New Nightmare, and Freddy vs Jason), so my brain is nothing but jello-mush now…
I’m pumped for Halloween, I have been for a few months now! Gonna get more "in the mood" by going on to watch a Friday the 13th marathon… If I don’t survive, I want X-E to have all my stuff!
Just a thought; could the TV room be from Dream Warriors? The one crazy chick who always wanted to be on TV & then had Freddy come to life in the TV & crash her brain through the screen? ("Welcome to Prime Time bitch!")

Ghosted by Dr Sketch @ 08/01/2006 10:17 AM EDT

Yeah, it definitely looks like that.

Ghosted by Frank D @ 08/01/2006 2:48 PM EDT

wow about a month ago I almost bought this off of ebay, but was outbid. I’ve never been so happy to be poor. Thanks to you I now know not to be fooled by Freddy’s charm and stop wasting my pathetic paychecks on crappy Nightmare merch….awww who am I kidding, I haven’t learned anything. I’m acommin ebay!

I had this game when I was younger. I always tried to play it but I never understood it. So I just used to stare at the box b/c Freddy always creeped me out. I wish I still had it though.

Ghosted by Boss6sr @ 08/10/2006 10:45 PM EDT

Yea, the pig on the table was absolutely from Part 3. Early into it, right before Freddy turns into a giant snake i believe. Or maybe it’s when Kristen’s chasing down the little girl? Recap: 3, definitely, scene, unsure

hey the gym was from nightmare on elm street 4 when that chick turn into a cockroach

Ghosted by jack @ 09/23/2006 10:04 PM EDT

haha I still have this game and still try to get my friends to play it with me to this day. My mom bought it for me (I was and still am a HUGE NOES fan) and her, me, and my brother played it that weekend. It was awful. I have not been able to play that game since then. I still love the fact that I still own it however.

I also bought that Freddy figure at a flea market for $5 about 2 years ago. I was overjoyed when I saw that piece of shit for sale.

Ghosted by Vinnie @ 10/09/2006 8:48 AM EDT

Great review, thanks!
I have the game but i still have not played it.

Ghosted by fmoros @ 10/11/2006 2:57 AM EDT

THAT looks dumb, why did they make a child friendly boardgame based on a blood soaked R rated movie? And why are the characters on said board game look like something out of Fisher Price? This is just STUPID!!

Ghosted by Dragonrider @ 12/21/2006 8:18 AM EST

about a week after you made this post, i found the game at a local flee market. With having read the review, and knowing how horrible the plot to the game is, i still had to buy it. been a fan of your site for a couple of years, and i send a link to any and all of my friends who are fond of 80’s nostalgia. Thanks for your time.

Just wanted to drop a line into the vast waters of your faboo actricle. I had no idea there exisited such a game, and now I do. I really had a cool time purusing said article. I really dig things like this. Some awesome, random piece of my pop culture past. It makes me warm inide. It truly does. The supposedly-squishy F.Kruger bit was very suave as well. FaBOOlous. Very cool. Looking forward to the next smile you bring.

Am I reading the price tag right on the Freddy Figure, did it say $8.97; damn dude, that is pretty high even by todays standards.

Hi everyone,

I just bought the Nightmare on elmstreet board game (The freddy game). But because it was second-hand, it didn’t include instructions, they got lost somewhere. Does anyone have the instructions to this game, and is it possible to send or post them somewhere so I can download them?
Thanks in advance.
