Save Danny Phantom!

This was pretty cool. Apparently, Nick is canceling Danny Phantom, and apparently, some people are upset about it. Some people were upset enough about it to stage a protest right outside the building today, complete with picket signs that were so awesome, I'm still not entirely sure this wasn't an internal publicity stunt. They gave out flyers and free candy, had televisions playing episodes of the show...amazing. The people protesting were a pretty eclectic group, so I'm assuming that they founded their cause online and only met each other this morning. They weren't all "FUCK YOU VIACOM" or anything, either. It felt a little bit more like a party, only they were celebrating something that pissed them the fuck off. Don't know how helpful it'll be, but I scored a single-wrapped LifeSaver out of it. Continue on for more pics...

I think I'll skip work the day they can SpongeBob.

Meh, never posted before, but DP is just about my favorate show, after Grey’s Anatomy. Maybe it’s wrong, being nearly 20 and all, but I’m drawn in. Mostly, the show doesn’t seem done. I mean, there were a lot of questions to be answered. As for FOP, it peaked long ago. Now all the characters have become one-dimentional.

But I like DP because it seems to have dark themes, but presented in a light way. Unlike other shows that are like ‘OMG I’m going to steal your SOUL’ *cough* yugioh *cough*. Sort of,

"I’m here to kill your father. And I am not a frootloop!"

Also there’s a certain appeal to the main character. But I really can’t sell yall on this show. I just popped in to say I’m sorry it’s being cancelled and I have support for this effort. It looks a lot of fun :P

Yeah, fairly odd parents stinks now. Why do things go bad after awhile? Does the creator get burned out or stupid or something?

Danny Phantom? Those grown up broads are protesting over Danny Phantom? I admire the fact that they apparently have no shame. But good grief how embarrassing.

Lazlo: YES!
It is kind of like a less Rocko-y version of Rocko, but I do enjoy it very much. I guess I’m kind of a sucker for stuff set at camp.

My opinion on the whole old vs. new Nickelodeon future nostalgia thing is that when I watch most of the shows I watched when I was a kid now, they still hold up as great shows. This is not true for all shows, or for all people, but the new shows really seem to pale in comparison to the old. This may be different for everyone.

i’m sure the grown women protesting are mothers. did you expect to see children protesting by themselves on the streets of new york?

Chestnuts roasted by bitchpants @ 07/26/2006 3:52 PM

I have one idea that will revamp Nickelodeon completely. BRING BACK DOUBLE DARE. Not only that, but grab up Mark Summers from that stupid food network show and have him host it again. Double Dare took the world by storm once, and could very well do it again!!!

So what will those girls do when their protest doesn’t work? They’ll be killing themselves next or as they would put it "going ghost". He heh yeah okay that was lame whatever.

As a moderator of the forum who had the greatest part in organizing this, I’d like to say thanks for posting! Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there myself, but I heard that everyone had a blast.

Seeing these pictures of all the signs everyone made and the big poster that many people from the forum contributed to just makes my day!

As for those commenting on the "old broads" I gotta say, they’re a mix of moms and fans, and some are both, I’m sure!

All of us on the board are hyped up about the great response that everyone got. We hope that this has some impact, but either way, we’re doing what we can as fans to save something we love.

Thanks again!! :D

As a member of the forum that organized this, I’m very sad that I was unable to be there.

However, I spotted my entry on the poster! ^_^

I am only 13, but I still think old Nick is way, WAY better than new nick. Same with cartoon network. the only good thing to watch on there is Billy and Mandy. It’s been overrun with Anime! and with Avatar on nick, they might not be far behind…..Nick should bring back Rocko, Zim, etc… (maybe Real monsters, that was an ik show i guess,)I don’t particuarly like DP, But If they could replace it with something from old Nick…

I am a big fan of Arrested Development and Invader Zim, but I am at least willing to accept the unfortunate truth that they aren’t coming back. Well, there have been rumors of an AD movie, but I’m not counting on that so much.

At least the creators of Ed Edd and Eddy agreed to make a fifth and sixth season of the show. It’s in the middle of its fifth season; i really think that the series has improved over time (the fourth season being the best one in my view), but then again Turner doesn’t have any real control over it because it’s made by a group in Vancouver that’s separate from Turner.

They CANNOT cancel Danny Phantom XD
That show is pretty much the best nicktoon ever not including Invader Zim. All the new crap sucks. I mean, The X’s? Come On.

I’m 20 years old, in college, and love Danny Phantom for having three-dimensional characters and good stories. If only prime time TV could be so good… Thanks, everyone who showed up to the protest – I wish I could have been there!

Heh, well apparently now I’m an ‘old broad’ yet still a teen… well, given I’m not in any of those pics… But I’m just going to say this; I don’t see anything wrong with fighting for something you love. I’m sorry that a lot of you can’t understand that concept, but I’m not ashamed to show I love that cartoon. As a university student studying film, I can honestly say from an informed background on animation and media that this show is really excellent in that regard. Given, there have been episodes a little off, there have also been episodes which were just spectacular.

I’d just like to add though, for those of you who’ve said ‘I don’t watch Nick anymore,’ or ‘I haven’t seen Danny Phantom’ and then go on to insult it… do you see a little problem there? Maybe with how well informed on the show you might actually be?

And to be honest, for those who think Nick might be going the right direction with cancelling most of it’s top shows right now (Danny Phantom sitting at about #3), have you seen what they’re bringing in? I for one am not looking forward to ‘Mr. Meaty’ X.x

Oh, and on a random note, some of those people are preteens… Would hardly call them ‘old broads who need boyfriends’.

Hi. I’m the old broad who designed the poster with all the little pictures on it. And I’m damn proud of what I did.

Unlike a lot of people, I’m a huge fan of this show and I hate to see it go when it has so much potential.

I don’t mind if other people hate it, but please don’t go slamming the people who support it. That’s just… kinda… stupid. And it makes you look like you had nothing better to think or say about anything.

Chestnuts roasted by White Gryphon @ 07/28/2006 12:56 PM

To the protestors who happened upon this entry — please don’t take the view of the minority over the rest of us, because I think most of the people who read this site can really appreciate this kind of effort. I know I did!

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 07/28/2006 9:30 AM

I’m another "old broad" who was there, I suppose, haha. A lot of us were adults who brought our kids who are huge fans of the show, but a lot of us ADULTS are also fans! That is the beauty of "Danny Phantom" to me — it really has something that appeals to all ages, and is, I feel, one of the most remarkable animated series to come down the pike in a long time. It deserves a few more seasons.

We at the rally tried to portray a positive, professional attitude despite the underlying theme of protest against the cancellation-of-production decision, and I’m glad that Viacom and Nick felt the positive vibes of the group. We DO support Nick! Just not this particular decision.

And I can guarantee that this was NOT an internal Nickelodeon publicity stunt! We just tried to be as professional, personable, and upbeat as we could. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, right? ;)

We got something like 400 signatures on our petitions during the day, too, and it was really great to see all the support.

Thanks for the write up on the event and thanks to all the people who posted favorably here. It really was a great day for all.

I would have been a part of this protest if I could have made it up to NYC. This was actually planned out by members of an online message board determined to do what they could to save Danny Phantom. Cancelling Danny puts the final nail in Nickelodeon’s coffin. First they do a radical change in progrtamming, then they shut down the studios in Orlando (including destroying the Slime Geyser) then they think they can eliminate the one awesome show still left on the network? Not if the fans have anything to say about it.

Chestnuts roasted by Brad @ 07/28/2006 2:26 PM

I happen to like DP, it’s one of the few NickToons I do enjoy. Along with FOP, I don’t watch much else on that channel. I can understand why they’re protesting. I know not a lot of things stir people in to actually acting but I’m proud people for this fandom got up and said something.

It might not make a difference to you, or Nick. But it makes them feel like they’ve at least tried. And for those of you who are downing them because they’re trying, shame on you. What do you do? Nothing.

I just gotta say, what was the website/forum that put all this together? I’d like an URL.

And to the people who came here through that site/forum, theres lots of stuff here from dozens of shows cancelled before their time (not to mention at the right time, or stuff that went off about 6 years later than it should *coughs*Rugrats*coughs*) that we all still remember!

Danny Phantom, personally, is not my cup of tea. I personally think it’s rather overrated. I don’t see what’s so good about it. It didn’t make me laugh at all; only cringe. And it’s full of clichés, such as an "Evil Danny." A lot of the older shows are MUCH better in my opinion, and I’m not just saying that out of nostalgia.

I’d take Rocko, Angry Beavers, or Pete & Pete over Danny any day.

Chestnuts roasted by Evangelion Unit-01 @ 07/28/2006 10:26 PM

Haven’t seen "Danny Phantom," but I do understand being upset enough about a show cancellation to protest. I wrote tons of letters and even got my website in an article on saving shows in the "Pres of Atlantic City" when American Movie Classics unfairly canceled my favorite (and now sadly little-known, as it isn’t on DVD and AMC would prefer to forget it’s existance) dramady "Remember WENN" in September 1998.

Nick canceled "Fairly Oddparents?" That’s a bit of a shock, more than "Danny Phantom." A few people mentioned that it’s still very popular. It’s not a favorite of mine – I’ve found some episodes amusing but mostly shrill – but I know other folks who think it’s one of Nick’s best.

OMG We have Danny Phantom Madness up in here. Lets not get all Bitner and go on and on about this for a year. Danny Phantom is cool. Protesting is cool. M.I.L.F.s who watch cartoons are cool. So, anybody else wanna see Double Dare come back?
