Save Danny Phantom!

This was pretty cool. Apparently, Nick is canceling Danny Phantom, and apparently, some people are upset about it. Some people were upset enough about it to stage a protest right outside the building today, complete with picket signs that were so awesome, I'm still not entirely sure this wasn't an internal publicity stunt. They gave out flyers and free candy, had televisions playing episodes of the show...amazing. The people protesting were a pretty eclectic group, so I'm assuming that they founded their cause online and only met each other this morning. They weren't all "FUCK YOU VIACOM" or anything, either. It felt a little bit more like a party, only they were celebrating something that pissed them the fuck off. Don't know how helpful it'll be, but I scored a single-wrapped LifeSaver out of it. Continue on for more pics...

I think I'll skip work the day they can SpongeBob.

About the time when Danny Phantom came on was just when I stopped watching Nick alltogether as it really didn’t bring anything new to the table. Invader Zim and Rocko: Insanity and just quality. I never liked DP nor FOP and don’t recall being entertained or laughing. They really should bring back the old shows, get mike o’malley off yes dear and back on the agrocrag!

When I was home last, I saw some of the Nick shows that my little brother watches and none of them did anything for me.

Will this generation of kids look back at these shows as fondly as we did on late 80s/early 90s Nick shows?

Jeff Mack: No

There were a few live events to try and save Arrested Development…obviously they didn’t do any good.
I never gave Oddparents a second thought until Matt mentioned that he wasn’t particularly into it, which made me curious. I actually like it well enough, though it’s not as good as Spongebob or Jimmy Nuetron. Besides those three, there aren’t a lot of Nick shows I stop the remote for, but I think it’s silly to say the spirit of the network is dead because some childhood favorites were cancelled after decent runs. It’s the network for kids, not retro loving twenty-somethings.

How’d I miss Pete & Pete Season 2? :( Well, that will be something to add to the Birthday List. :) Thanks, Whatever!

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 07/25/2006 11:20 AM

Now why didn’t anyone do this for Pepsi Blue? ;)

Protestign the cancellation of a show never works – the only thing that will is to wait until the DVDs come out, and then by yourself a million babillion copies of it.

Sure, letter-writing worked for Star Trek and… you know, that other show…I think it had women in it…whatever….
but today, it’s all about da monees.

Cameron T, do you always assume all comments immediately after yours are in direct response to you? You’re not the center of the universe, you know. No matter what Mommy tells you.

Stop fighting and SAVE DANNY.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 07/25/2006 1:26 PM

I will NOT miss FOP. I guess I am the only one. Those fairy’s voices, to me, are like nails on a chalkboard.

At the grocery today I saw a new Pepsi soda called "Jazz" it was diet only and cherries and vanilla or strawberry and vanilla. I bought a cherries and vanilla. It’s pretty good. I am kinda getting sick of the berries and cream fad though.

Fairly Oddparents and Danny Phantom, eh? Bad day to be Butch Hartman.

Nick died the day they got rid of Rocko’s modern life. You knew the end was near when you had to wake up at 6:30 in the morning to see it.

Oh man, I totally understand this. I’m still upset about Nick’s cancellation of Space Cases. What an interesting alternative to a letter-writing campaign!

All you Rocko fans ARE watching Camp Lazlo, right (not to plug the competition too much)? Of course it’s no Rocko but I find it pretty enjoyable.
Lots of flaming going on lately (which sucks, knock it off already, even when you do have a good point you ruin it with personal insults).
Avatar: The Last Airbender is on Nick, isn’t it? That’s new, and I’ve heard only great things about it…only watched a couple eps myself. Of course, for every Avatar you might get a My Dad the Rock Star (sooooo bad) so it’s a crapshoot.
Lazlo is the only ‘toon I’m watching regularly at the mome, though I’m on the lookout for a sub of the Powerpuff Girls anime. Who cares about them though, what’s important now is how are we going to save Danny? Is he a ghost, by the way? Because I thought that was the point behind the "spirit" poster, but I’ve never watched so I don’t know.

I shoulda known something was up when my intern said something about a "buncha people with signs in fronta Viacom" on his way over from the PA. Hehe, they let me supervise the intern …

I’m sorry to say but the best thing on nick right now is spongbob…..everything else is just…….sort of unwatchable. I think nick has been losin it ever since cartoon network. Wanna watch some great cartoons? Switch the channel.

Pathetic… single women protesting nickelodeon for a crappy T.V. show. All I can say is that I am with you on the Spongebob, Matt.

New blog posts everyday!?! WOO HOO! Because I have no life so I get joy out of reading the blog posts of somebody who does.

Did anyone ever consider the fact that it might not be the quality of the shows that are declining, it might just be that we are getting older and the things we used to enjoy just aren’t amusing anymore. Kids today might just love the hell out of a show that we as adults can’t get our heads around. On more than one occassion, i’ve tried to sit down and watch something that I used to love as a kid only to find out that it just isn’t that good anymore. stop ragging on people for standing up for something that they love!

With no cable, I’ve never seen DP. I have seen FOP, and that show’s so hyperactive it probably got cancelled because it had a heart attack.

It’s true Nick had some problems with it, but Invader Zim mainly died because Jhonen wished it. If he had wanted to continue the series, I’m sure another network would have seen the fandom and been interested. But he’s off the show-making business for good. He didn’t like the process.

Matt, don’t worry–Nick won’t cancel Spongebob until no one cares about it anymore. Just look at how long they stretched out Rugrats….

Oh yeah, and ANIMANIACS AND PINKY AND THE BRAIN DVDS ARE OUT TODAY! I’ve got mine already; how about you?

Chestnuts roasted by Mars @ 07/25/2006 4:19 PM

happenstance,

Cartoons are all subjective there bud, so if i say they suck and want them off the air, doesn’t mean I have a low IQ because I fail to see how DP is a good show. The cartoon and most Nick toons right now blow in the quality of their writing. It is called opinion.

Kim possible sucks as well and so does Futurerama. So there.

I dunno, but I find that a little harsh. We all have things we could rag on the other for, be it for liking Danny Phantom or being a Bon Jovi show or some other guilty pleasure. As for the quality of shows … the last time I watched anything on there was when I was babysitting my friend’s kid and it was the Angry Beavers. It wasn’t bad. I wouldn’t Tivo it, but it wasn’t terrible.

I dunno about this Danny Phantom guy, but did anyone hear about them firing Melanie from PBS Sprout’s "Goodnight Show"? My 10 month old son was IN LOVE with her (the boy has good taste). They fired her because 8 years ago she made some silly PSA spoofs about maintaining a girl’s virginity. I was so moved by the unfairness of the situation that I ALMOST wrote a letter to PBS. hehe

I, myself, am greatly anticipating the release of Darkwing Duck: volume One on DVD at the end of next month. Except for a very brief period in the early 90′s, my house didn’t have cable when I was a kid (and we still don’t). My biggest tv memories are from network tv and syndication. The Disney Afternoon sure brings back memories for me. Darkwing Duck is my favorite of the bunch. Just last year I bought the Game Boy game off amazon. I think that it is one of the best NES-Game Boy games I’ve played. I’ve never played another 8-bit game quite like it, although I heard from a web page that it uses the engine from Megaman. P.S.: On my last post from this morning, I misspelled my moniker as "Hoverboard."

I personally think Danny Phantom, and many of his counterparts, completely suck testicles. Some of the NickToons are cool thoug, but I don’t let my daughter watch that stuff anymore. I let her watch Grimm once and she was picking her nose and burping at people for like a week afterwards. While that may be funny, I can’t have that kind of grief every day so NickToons are banned until she is older.
