Great Article on the Hyve!
It's so sad to hear to that Sectaurs only lived for 1 year....in my mind they were one of the popular lines of toys that lasted for multiple years.....sigh....how the young mind plays tricks on you.....

Oh, man. My brother and I had The Hyve, along with the entirety of the Sectaurs line. We were obsessed with it - the one toy line two quarrelsome brothers could agree on. And how could you not, really?

The reason we had all the toys was because we got them the year AFTER they were popular, and could be bought at a discount department store for a few dollars. I think the combined amount of everything (Hyve included) came to about fifty or sixty bucks.

But let me tell you, having those toys even after their expiration date was amazing, if only because the Hyve was so imposing yet so generic. It was a base for every one of our action figures, from He-Man to G.I. Joe to Transformers. So I guess we really got a lot of value out of it as wel.

My comment is a bit late...Just wanted to say thanks for bringing back some great memories. I had The Hyve, and Dargon and his dragonfly. I loved those toys, but had forgotten about them until just now. I guess I was pretty lucky back then to have this and so many other great toys.

PS. I had a stuffed ALF, and I carried him everywhere too. Thanks Matt!

someone tell me you wrote a review like this os the fortress of steele?!

that thing was the PERENNIAL battleground for my action figures.

also you need to review bone age. it was a series of toys from kenner in the 1980s that were obviously delivered to us from the year 2045. someone the time traveler felt as though we were an important enough period in humanity to grace us with these magical toys.

Dude, you forgot to mention that these action figures actually came with their OWN CULTURE. I had a ton of these things and the bigger ones came with all sorts of bonus shit: blank hex maps to map out your neighborhood, secret handshake guide for both sides (yes, they said you had to be one or the other and claim sectors of your neighborhood), all sorts of gang war stuff.
I had no clue these toys even existed until my grandmother read that they were "the next big thing" and had to outdo my other grandmother at christmas. I only wish I wasnt the only kid in my neighborhood who had them- just like lazer tag and that kick ass actionfigure set that was like a bunch of crystal and ice guys vs. a bunch of rock and fire guys. Those ruled.
