Sectaurs: The HYVE Playset!

A new article has been Chestnuts Roasted. I've talked about Sectaurs before, but not lately, and I never got to talk about one of my absolute favorite toys ever at length, because up until a few months ago, I never owned it. "The Hyve" was the one and only playset in the 80's Sectaurs line, seeming so immense, so cool and so rife with spider puppets in the commercials that it actually turned up in the sleepytime dreams of my youth. Now that I have it, I can confirm that it really is cool, really is immense, and really is rife with spider puppets. I love The Hyve, and you will too. You'd better, because I wrote almost 4,000 words about it.

EDIT: So, I'm going to try a little experiment soon -- X-Entertainment's August Megaparty. It's a big name for a small thing: I just want to update the blog with new content every day in August. No themes like the Halloween Countdown, no set lengths, nothing -- it's just a promise to update with something every day in August, and see where it goes. It could be as simple as picking out the first thing I see in my office and writing about it, or as EXTRAVAGANT as actually going out on the town to find white hot blazing content. I dunno, I guess I like my personal challenges manageable.

Once again, Matt, you took something I know nothing about and didn’t give a rat’s ass about, and made it into a kick ass-article.

Since the pics don’t really do justice to the size, do you think you could take some pics next to toys/playsets that people are more familiar with? Like the Technodrome or the Turtle Van or some G.I. Joe thing.

So what’s the biggest toy everyone had as a kid? I had the G.I. Joe Aircraft Carrier and the Space Shuttle thing. I really regret selling those in a garage sale a LONG time ago. Should have kept them.

White hot blazing content is super well and good…I’m kind of interested in whatever stream of consciousness you come up with though. Hooray for the Megaparty!

I had the Voltron castle and Castle GreySkull of course. But I’m going to go with Fortress Maximus, because I know of it’s allure these days.

Ryane, I think I remember the piano playing guy. It sounded familiar, and when I clicked your link I was like, "Yeah, I remember him!" My favorite Sesame Street stuff was Teeny Little Super Guy and the Pinball thing (1, 2, 3, 4, 5…6, 7, 8, 9, 10…11, 12)

I friggin loved the sectaurs, I had the one where you shoved your hand up a Spider with Mandibles? Ass. But our family was to poor to actually purchase any toys that weren’t from Goodwill.

Ok Totally off subject here, But I need help. I need someone ANYONE to acknowledge that the Tigersharks exist. Not the fishes in the sea, but the cartoon. Did they ever have a toyline? Does anyone have a full lenght episode? Our did I make this whole thing up on a Crispy Critter sugar high?

AFAIK,this anime never came out in the U.S. but Mattel(?) decided to buy a bunch of Japanese robot toys and put them out as one set called Shogun Warriors. Shogun Warriors also included Godzilla (who could launch his fist like a rocket) and I think Rodan. Marvel Comics put out a monthly comic for a short time about the Shogun Warriors,I have no idea how faithfull the characters were to the anime,I’m guessing not very.
Anyway,the one golden horned dude you’re about to see explode (what’s with all the fist launching?) is not usually golden,he’s got a nice paintjob like everyone else,and he’s one of the rarest action figures in the whole world. I don’t mean like a mint condition Scorponok rare,I mean rare as in there’s only like 3 confirmed to exist. He didn’t come out as a U.S. Shogun Warriors toy,he was only realeased in Japan,and much like our horrible Batman/Spider-man toylines of today,the villians were ridiculously hard to find.
I really like the two headed blue robot guy,myself.

I feel like all I’m doing on this thread is being contrary, but I thought Clerks II was the most wasted opportunity since Hitchhiker’s. All he wanted to do was be offensive and have a bad romantic subplot. He hasn’t matured as a filmmaker one bit. Aside from trying to be as offensive as possible, which is just so rad if you’re however old K. Smith is, it was just a sad movie. I wish it had been more dialogue driven, like the first one, and I wish he would have focused on the Dante/Randall relationship. There were good parts, don’t get me wrong. But I wouldn’t waste money on anything more than a matinee.

Tigersharks did INDEED have a toyline! I remember seeing them back in the day at TRU. As I recall, they were scarcely distributed (along with Street Frogs toys?) and have become quite quite scarce since. I don’t know about loose toys, but carded examples of Tigersharks toys go QUITE high. Also, they were "Thundercats" scale, FYI.

This article rocks for several reasons, but the main one being a coworker and I were walkin to lunch last week talking about old school toys and your typical He-Man, GI Joe, Centurions, Transformers, MASK, etc all came up and then I was like remeber Sectors! I gave my cousin one of those flying spider puppett things for his birthday or something, but he was one of those little brats who played with toys for 10 minutes then lost or broke them and never appreciated that they had a story or anything. Then he would go back to breaking bottles on the basketball court. Oh well he’s in prison now, and I’m fairly well adjusted.
