Ice Blue Kool-Aid & Nintendo Poster.

I didn't get a chance to finish that new article yet (but I have started), so we head for our traditional fallback plan of a new Kool-Aid review. I thought the crew was getting a little red-heavy, so let's shade up like a motherfucker with a review of Ice Blue, the coolest Island Twist, still currently on the market as "Ice Blue Raspberry Lemonade," a regular Kool-Aid Twist. Harug rug rar. It's a special Kool-Aid for many reasons, not the least of which being the fact that Ice Blue is, indeed, original Berry Blue reincarnate. If you like drinks, you'll like this!

Came across this while cleaning out boxes today -- it's one of those old posters that came packaged with, in some variation, every Nintendo game ever. Paperwork was half the joy of getting a new Nintendo game. From the often elaborate instruction manuals to the No Postage Necessary subscription cards to Nintendo Power, the game's assorted paperwork made those rides back from the toy store less about a bullet race to your bedroom-based video game systems and more about finally having something worth reading. Posters like the one above were very often a part of the paperwork, offering picture-punctuated lists of popular and/or new games. One of my favorite things to do was pretend I could only ever have three of the games and figure out which three they'd be, so I'm putting that question to you:

Click the poster to see it bigger, and pick the three games you'd bring along if you were going to be stranded on a tiny island with a working Nintendo for a few months. Keep in mind, that's a different question than "name your three favorites."

I'd probably go with Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, which aside from being a great game also had the trump of never seeming to get old. For #2, I think I'd swipe Kung-Fu. That one would get old, but the thought of punching dragon eggs to death before they had a chance to hatch seems to offset knowing that. And needing to pick both a classic and a long game for the all-important #3, I guess I'm going with The Legend of Zelda. Sure, the thrill of figuring out where to bomb my way into secret arrow shops is gone, but I never did quite master the art of the cemetery section. Your turn.

OK, Dragon Warrior IV (only one of the NES games I haven’t played), SMB3, and Zelda 2. I even reviewed the GBA version of SMB3 versus the origial and SNES versions on my site. I probably should review Zelda 2 sometime since so many Zelda fans (like me) love it.

OK, totally didn’t read the question right. I would then take DW, SMB, and Zelda II. Sorry for misreading Matt.

Tetris, Dragon Warrior and Metroid.

hey matt! it’s been forever since i posted here – but since I love Nintendo, I had to chime in – SMB2, for the sheer fact of it’s SMB2. Ice Hockey, because I can play any kind of hockey game all day everyday for the rest of my life. And finally, Tetris. Because I love Tetris :)

I have the poster hanging in my room from a 1985 Nintendo Power

Zelda, Punch-Out and Metroid. Never could finish Punch-Out (always got smoked by Bald Bull), and I’ve never had the patience to beat Metroid. Being on an island with only these games, I’m sure I’d be able to finish at least one of them. That or I’d just play zelda over and over.

I was wondering if any of youze people remember the mystical Kool-Aid hall of fame flavor called "Pink Flamingo" ? If I recall it is from the early 90s and I loved Pink Flamingo as a kid. I think it would be fantastic if Matt did a review on it. Matt I think you should go on a quest to find out where the wacky warehouse is. Keep up the great work , this site is the best on the net

It’s called Pink Swimmingo, and I will be reviewing it. smile It’s a real popular flavor, and I try to spread those out so I don’t end up having nothing but 65 variations of Cherry left to review later.

Ha! I finally finished reading the archives! Anyway, I would take:

1.Super Mario Brothers, Because how can such a classic ever get old?
2. Tetris, Because I am hopelessly Addicted to it
3.Rad Races. I’ve never played it, but having nothing better to do than play a racing game for a few months might make my actual driving better.

here’s the thing.

the ICE BLUE raspberry lemonade packaging doesn’t have any blueberries on it. I thought I might’ve just been inadvertantly drunk while reading, but on further inspection I’m right.

This isn’t to say the packaging doesn’t have BLUE BERRIES. They appear to have drawn a raspberry and colored it blue, but, there aren’t any blueberries in the traditional (read actually exist) sense.

So, reading further on about how blueberries and lemons compliment one another, I must ask, where the hell did these blueberries come from and what the jesus happened to the blue colored raspberries? Perhaps a berries’ flavour is far more based on it’s coloring then I could’ve ever imagined. Am I just a confused little boy or am I on to something?

Also, seeing as there’s a bunch of NES talk going on.. give me River City Ransom and fuck everything else (well, not really, i’ll also take metroid and kid icarus off the top of my head.. )

Hey so i am a long time reader (i have that NES poster too btw) but anyways i dont know if most people know how good Kool Aid is good for covering up the aweful taste of alchohol! Me and my gf created this drink called “Oooooohhh Yeaaaa!” shots, its half 160 proof vodka (Devil Springs) and one half water, add a packet of Kool Aid and you wont taste a bit of the drink at all (dont add sugar, it probably will make you sick) anyways i found that the Rasberry Lemonade is the best for this mix and tastes awesome! Ok Matt, good luck with your site, i love it! Night man…

I’m 23 years old and love berry blue kool aid. I have been drinking it for a couple years. I usually go through about 4 of the 6 packs a week. I love that stuff. I have been going to 2 major stores in town everyday wandering when they would get it back in stock. After reading an article on here I can see what happened here and am not happy about losing my berry blue.

I’d go with The Legend of Zelda(my #1 all-time favorite game),Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!(I have mastered this fuggin’ game)and Metroid.Although I would beat Punch-Out!! in about 45 minutes, Zelda in about 2 hours.Metroid would take a while, I don’t remember where all the power-ups are.So I would probably aimlessly meander through parts of the game you can skip with nothing of any importance. But, once I make it to Mother Brain, you can bet that bitch is getting assassinated.I just like that word cuz you have to spell ass twice. :)

Matt in your ice blue article you keep referring to the flavors as lemon and blue berry, no its black berries even though it says raspberry lemon on the wrapper. I don’t know where you got blue berries from because they don’t look like the art work >.>
