Saturday Night Fever.

SNT, plus, I have a 103 degree fever. Tell me some ways you make yourself feel better when yer sick. I got the "take medicine" part covered. Really, I'm just looking for some form of entertainment that won't make my eyes feel like someone is stabbing them with sharp stuff.

I just take a TV or some other form of entertainment into the bathroom when I’m sick because I know I’ll be spending a lot of time in there.

Yes, yes, popscicles, of some kind, are always the main food when I have a cold. The only thing I will drink is Ginger ale or juice if it doesn’t taste freaky, so popscicles are good for covering food and drink at the same time. Sorta.

When I’m sick, I usually end up playing video games, watch a movie, or do some writing. Sometimes I break out the stack of magazines that have been piling up (unread) and finally look through them. Reading manga is good too. I agree with the shower comment above. That always helps – but no I wouldn’t take one while you are at 103 degrees. :)

Hope you feel better soon, Matt.

liptons cup a soup for your hunger…
don’t forget the sucrets if you have a cough…
and a marathon of your favorite 80′s slasher films (i always go with Friday the 13th myself) for your entertainment…

top it all off with the big Q before sleep…

At the moment they are talking about the Spiderman drug comics…I just read that X-E article a few days ago.

Someone mentioned taking a shower before. I strongly second that.

Hmm, interesting post for my first SNT…

I like to put everything within arm’s reach of the bed and watch telly for periods of 24 hours and up (I’m a big reader but when I’m sick usually I avoid it unless I go outdoors for fresh air or something). TV on DVD is especially good; I’d recommend Lost if it’s new to you, but you can’t exactly roll to the Best Buy when you’re ill. MST3K is a fav too. I must second the recommendation of Airborne, with the addendum that you avoid the lemon lime flavor at all costs.
Feel better! Happy Saturday, everybody else!

Thanks, Squee, I was thinking about trying the Lemon-Lime. Any word on Pink Grapefruit? I’m not big on grapefruit, but I thought I might switch it up with good ol’ Orange.

Whenever I get sick I cry for a little bit, then I deny the fact that I’m sick, and then lash out at the ones I love… have you tried aroma therapy?

Chestnuts roasted by Darth Poop @ 07/09/2006 12:01 PM

Drinking water by the liter will flush your system and peeing is kind of entertaining. Also, games like GTA where you can just run around slaying crowds of digital people are good because you don’t have to commit yourself to reaching goals aside from wanton destruction. If you have pets, insist that they use their healing powers on you.

Generally I end up having to go to work anyways though because the sicker I am, the less likely they are to believe I’m sick. That’s fast food for ya. Prolly why you’re sick too.

A good cure is to rest up all nice nice. Punch the pope while playing a mean hand of poker with Jesus then sell some guns to trigger-happy people with nervous tics.

The older I get, the more being sick sucks. I’m 27, and when I get a cold these days I feel like I’m on my death bed. Back in college, sick just ment I had to blow my nose between taking shots and whatever else I was on that night.

These days, sick = Videogames. Mostly emulators like MAME. I don’t want to think, so I play old arcade, NES, and Genesis games.

Tonight, though, I was at a demolition derby. Here is a quick review of an event I wrote from a couple years ago, tonight was even better.

I even have video’s of the action!

Watching the original Stars Wars trilogy used to entertain me when I was sick.

On another note, Jack Daniels’ Country Cocktails suck. They are way too sugary and enough Jack Danielsy.

I’m afraid I’m not the one to be asking for fever remedies. When my temperature’s up, I generally carry on as normal and ride the sensation. Nothing like those moments where the floor gently tilts ninety degrees and you become convinced that your death grip on the mouse is the only thing stopping you tumbling into the kitchen. Maybe that’s just me.

I just got back from a showing of Pirates. I give it one enthusiastic thumb and one enthusiastic prosthetic hook hand up. To put in in the nerdiest terms possible: as sequels go, it was no Empire Strikes Back, but then it wasn’t a Temple of Doom either. Good times all around.

Darth Poop: Is is just me, or have you been conspiciously absent from the board lately? Welcome back a-"board," matey. Ah hah hah shit, it’s past my bedtime.

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 07/09/2006 1:50 AM

I don’t know. I have a splitting headache and everything is irritating me right now. Stupid headache.

Chestnuts roasted by spooky @ 07/09/2006 2:06 AM

Ragnarok, you wouldn’t happen to be THE Ragnarok on the Pandemonium server of Final Fantasy XI, would ya?

If so, I enjoyed partying w/ya near Selbina (Siren Sands) a couple nights ago.

Feel better Matt :)

Yes, TV is what I turn to when I’m sick; with my massive TV-on-DVD collection as well as over 300 DVD-Rs I’ve made of VCR recordings dating back to 1980. Unless watching moving images makes me sicker; then I’m kind of stuck.

Wow. That’s a lot of Love, Matt… I’ve seen TONS of posts, wishing you well… my advice is; DRINK HEAVILY. It works, trust me. Viruses can’t do their business with a B.A.C. of over .2! Not bloody likely. In other news, It’s my FIRST POST! I’m so happy! I’m spending Sat. Night watching "Vamp"… largely because of the mention of the ‘horror six-pack’ last week. And the fact that it stars a friend-of-a-friend… (long story). I’m hopin’ you feel better soon, Matt; and when you’re back in Hollywood (CA), give me a shout, and I’ll get you on the lot @ FOX. Until then, Thanks for all the good stuff! Be Well.

Watch: Monty Python, old school cartoons, Tommy Boy (best. sick movie. ever.)

Consume: Fruit popsicles (the chocolate/creamsicle ones make your throat feel icky) sprite (Good for clearing your throat, and no caffiene. Sugar buzz and sickness don’t mix well)

Sleep: Big squishy cuddle pillows, and a nest made out of every single blanket in the house. Being sick is the best excuse in the world to build yourself a couch cushion/blanket fort in front of the TV.

Chestnuts roasted by Squirrel-chan @ 07/09/2006 10:10 AM

Oh yeah,

Play: COMPLETLY FUNCTIONAL and ALL ORIGINAL Nintendo system with Super Mario 3.

The thing is my baby. I’m so ridiculously overprotective of it it’s sad. But I practically have all the levels memorized so it doesn’t require too much thought to play when I’m so sick my head feels like its gonna float away

Chestnuts roasted by squirrel-chan @ 07/09/2006 10:20 AM

Hey Jedoc: watch the Temple of Doom hate! Best of the three.

Matt: my sick "curealls", besides rest, are The Wizard of Oz and Ginger Ale, although I’d imagine everybody has their own childhood memories of sick days, so mine probably will do nothing for you.

Chestnuts roasted by Spoodles @ 07/09/2006 10:35 AM

Curl up in bed or on the couch with the blankets over your head or eyes closed (so your eyes don’t hurt from the tv). Watch Nick Jr., or just any really tame albeit soothing kids’ shows, and have your gf or mom bring you gatorade, crackers, and soup.

Chestnuts roasted by Eddie Lightning Frog @ 07/09/2006 11:08 AM

Haven’t tried the pink grapefruit Airborne…It can’t possibly be as awful as the lemon lime, but if you really want to be safe the orange is the way to go. If you do try it, drop the word, because I wouldn’t mind a respite from the Tang flavor either.
I forgot to add my other sickness remedies: whining incessantly and demanding that I be waited on hand and foot. Seriously, whining like a spoiled child.
Was talking to a coworker who had never seen any Indy movies. For some reason, I blurted out that if they only watched one, it should be Temple of Doom. The other people in the convo took issue with that, and I had to admit that it’s the worst one and I didn’t know why I recommended it. Selective childhood memories, I guess.
I’m watching the premiere ep of Hex from BBC America. It’s alright so far, but I don’t want to invest too much time into it if it goes south. Anyone have an opinion? I read one review that said it was a darker, smarter, sexier Buffy, but I was never a Buffy fan.

Chestnuts roasted by squee4242 @ 07/09/2006 12:18 PM

Ginger Ale and a movie marathon on the couch, original Star Wars Trilogy, The Goonies, any movie I watched over and over as a kid will do the trick.

Hope you feel better soon, Matt.

Chestnuts roasted by Fox @ 07/09/2006 1:31 PM

Fire, and plenty of it!

May I once again promote my own method of enjoying a good sick day(s)? Two words:
Fever Floyd!
Yes, nothing trips you out while listening to "The Wall" like having a high fever in the dark. The only drugs needed are NyQuil (we love you, you great big f*cking Q!), aspirin, or your favorite Tussin flavor. I mentioned it once on FARK and someone said they watched the movie while very sick. They didn’t have the strength to use the remote to turn it off. Imagine the dreams they must have had.
