Not literally, but for weeks, there's been faux checkpoints where coppers give you copies of paper basically saying that they'll kill you if you're caught with fireworks of any kind. On the upside, this seems to have led to a giant increase in sanctioned fireworks shows. I'm on crappy Staten Island, and I've already seen two tonight. NY is so consumed with anti-terrorism that it’s now extended to the point where having fireworks can get you the death penalty.
