Hostel: THUMBS CUT OFF AND DOWN.

Dunno how many of you are around for SNT since I haven't been too diligent lately, but it's here if ya want it. Finally saw Hostel for the first time today, and um...yeah. Don't at all understand the hype that one got. Nowhere near as gritty as I'd read, and everything that happened before the shit hit the fan took way longer than everything that happened afterwards -- not totally acceptable for a pretty short film. With such a disturbing premise, I couldn't believe how little I was moved or affected. Some things were fairly gross, but knowing what you had to already know going into it, was anyone really all that shocked by any of it? You need to be shocked for a movie like this to work. I'm using more words than are needed to say that I felt nothing for Hostel, but beefy paragraphs are pretty.

Sucks because I had all of these gift certificates to blow at Best Buy this afternoon, but decided to hold onto 'em because I knew Hostel had hit PPV and wanted to see it. Totally killed what was supposed to be an awesome Saturday horror movie deal. I should've known better and bought some video game I'd play four times and forget about; at least then I'd have more to do tonight than be pissy that I left the magic wire that connects my camera to my computer in Florida. Fuck you, mouse. Speaking of which, time to get back to the Disney articles. Hope everyone's well. See you in a bit...

I got an import DS Lite a month or two ago (dark blue color), and it’s much better than the original. I was skeptical about it at first too since most of the appeal is in the brighter screens, but it makes a big difference.

I just played through the new Mario for the second time, and it just gets better each time I play it. It’s pretty great.

For a simple, no-nonsense blog, give the Google-owned Blogger a try. I used it with great success last year to chronicle my study abroad experiences (shameless plug: http://camerontalley.blogspot.com/). It’s free and easy to work with…

Ugh, that’s weak. I’m about to go watch the horror/cult film "Parents". It looks really sweet and the premise rocks; hopefully it won’t disappoint. Even if it does, I have about 8 beers in the fridge. :)

What do people think about the upcoming The Omen? Seeing currently-popular-young-blond actresses kind of turns me off, but I’m going to go see it anyway. Even if just for that scene in the trailer when the puppets at the carnival puppet show turn around to look at the hanging nanny.

Myspace is evil, but so so addicting. It’s less evil feeling though knowing I’m not trolling it trying to add every hot chick I can find as a friend, like a lot of people do, and just using it for friends and general entertainment.

I need a DS and the new Super Mario Bros. BADLY, but I can’t afford to dent my Wii savings.

I’m officially bored O.o Somone entertain me.

Chestnuts roasted by Rutir @ 06/04/2006 1:55 AM

Okay, I’ll entertain you. JLA mentioned Tales From The Darkside on YouTube earlier. He wasn’t kidding. My favorite episode ever is there, and it hasn’t lost a step. Here’s http://youtube.com/watch?v=NWlYOyUvU-c&search=tales%20from%20the%20darkside%20anniversary" target="blank">Part 1, and here’s http://youtube.com/watch?v=sUuxDykwQLs&search=tales%20from%20the%20darkside%20anniversary" target="blank">Part 2. Enjoy.

My goodness. I didn’t realize that would work. Thanks matt.

Matt, what are the odds? Your favorite episode of Darkside is on Youtube and so is mine! It’s the one I mentioned earlier… "Seasons of Belief." Everyone should check it out. Good stuff!

Hey I am looking forward to a picture of matt, with a cig hanging out of his mouth, with an unamused look on his face, with one arm around mickey, or goofy, or somebody like that.

I don’t have cable anymore so I spend a lot of time on youtube they have some really great videos, before you meantioned tales of the darkside I was looking at old tv intros, somebody put up a ton of old ones, then I stumbled apon full episodes of the wonder years. Neat.

It will be several months before I am at a location that provides a decently fast internet connection, so I will unfortunately miss anything video-related on the internet–and it makes me pine for the days when this wasn’t an issue, and I got all my kicks from TV and LEGOS. Would I be talking about this if this wasn’t a nostalgia-related site? My self-consciousness questionings leave me no respite.

Matt: The Ecto Cooler is the cocktail. I didn’t even know there was one until I read it in the paper.

The Grither one is my favorite also. Anniversary Party is pretty good, but I knew what the ending was five minutes in.

Other Darkside favorites:
A Case of Stubborns: A young Christian Slater and Brent Spiner.

Trick or Treat: The Pilot

Monsters in my Closet: A young Seth Green

Devils Advocate: Jerry Stiller

The Odds: Danny Aiello

Sorry, Right Number- Stephen King wrote it.

Grandma’s Last Wish
Yattering and Jack.
BTW, I didn’t know George Romero was the producer on Darkside.

But the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen isn’t from Darkside, but Monsters "A Bond of Silk." YIKES.

Just finished with Matt’s favorite, gonna check yours out Bludge =D I need to be a jerk and ask for people to entertain me more often O.o

I just woke up from a very deep dream. I won’t go into details but one part that stood out was these DVDs I bought. Each of them had an episode of the super mario super show and when you was done watching them, you could throw the dvd into some water and it would dissolve into fruit juice. I think there’s a market for this.

Norbs, I am faithful to LiveJournal and recommend it to all. I even shelled out for a permanent account when they offered them but I have to admit if I was starting a brand new blog I would probably use Blogger. It’s got a more…professional? cooler? vibe, but LJ has the awesome icon angle going, plus you can get lots of syndicated feeds and any fandom crap you can imagine on your friends pages. It depends what you’re looking for in a blog, I think. If you want your friends to actually read it, MySpace is probably your best bet :/
(Any fellow LJers, drop me a comment in my journal :) )
I’m so glad The 4400 is coming back (it was NBC). I almost bought season 2 at Best Buy tonight, but I decided it didn’t have quite enough rewatchability. It’s an awesome show though and it’s definitely going to ease the Lost/Sopranos withdrawl pains.
I’m checking out those YouTubes as soon as this dang power outage is over. There’s tons of MST on there as well, in addition to all the awful "ghostride the whip" videos.

Have they released "Tales from the Darkside" on dvd?
There’s a bunch of episodes I would love to see.-

Late night commercial television is letting me know of a service that will text-message me jokes, that I can spontaneously use at my convenience to become the life of any party. I’m curious–does anyone know about these? Are the jokes really as terrible as I think they are? Send me your thoughts telepathically, because I am going to retire. Because I’m a retard.

Chestnuts roasted by Joker @ 06/04/2006 2:41 AM

i dunno if it was a tales from the darkside or not but an episode where an old guy refuses to die and parts of his face (like his nose) start to fall off?

Chestnuts roasted by doc bong @ 06/04/2006 2:43 AM

This episode is so weird!

Chestnuts roasted by Joker @ 06/04/2006 2:46 AM

I just saw Session 9 on Thursday. It’s a great horror film. It’s about an asbestos cleaning crew in an old mental hospital (great/creepy setting) and weird crap starts going down.
Don’t read anything else about this movie, because not knowing what’s going on exactly until the end really makes the movie. This is probably the only horror movie to creep me out and disturb me while watching it. It’s definitely worth a rental.

Chestnuts roasted by RewolfJ @ 06/04/2006 3:21 AM

I would think that the hot tub ending would be more dramatic in Anniversary Dinner, the lights turning off, the water turning into a red bright water, and the tempature going way up, and seeing the girl, dead, on a platter like a turkey. Not just getting the poor girl drunk and start throwing in raw veggies. Wtf? I wish there was someplace where I could watch Tales of the Crypt, now THAT’S a great cheesy show, with a twist at the end.

Chestnuts roasted by Goob @ 06/04/2006 4:06 AM

doc bong, there was indeed an episode of Darkside with that plot, it’s the one I remember most vividly.
An old man, notorious among his family for being stubborn, dies but refuses to believe it. Most of the episode is the family trying to convince Gramps that he needs to give up the ghost, but he remains unconvinced.
In the final scene the family is eating diner around the table when suddenly Gramps sneezes into his napkin. He stares at it for a moment, then slowly gets up, walks up to his bed, lies down and passes on. Curious, the family look in the napkin to see what it was that finally convinced him that he was indeed dead. In the napkin- Gramp’s nose.

The only TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE that I remember was the one with the little white demon. Scared the hell out of me.
Haven’t seen HOSTEL but I can tell you how much I hated Seed of Chucky. I have a lot of patience and tolerance for bad movies but I really, really hated everything about this one. I know some will say, "Well, what did you expect?". I don’t know but this wasn’t it.
