Hostel: THUMBS CUT OFF AND DOWN.

Dunno how many of you are around for SNT since I haven't been too diligent lately, but it's here if ya want it. Finally saw Hostel for the first time today, and um...yeah. Don't at all understand the hype that one got. Nowhere near as gritty as I'd read, and everything that happened before the shit hit the fan took way longer than everything that happened afterwards -- not totally acceptable for a pretty short film. With such a disturbing premise, I couldn't believe how little I was moved or affected. Some things were fairly gross, but knowing what you had to already know going into it, was anyone really all that shocked by any of it? You need to be shocked for a movie like this to work. I'm using more words than are needed to say that I felt nothing for Hostel, but beefy paragraphs are pretty.

Sucks because I had all of these gift certificates to blow at Best Buy this afternoon, but decided to hold onto 'em because I knew Hostel had hit PPV and wanted to see it. Totally killed what was supposed to be an awesome Saturday horror movie deal. I should've known better and bought some video game I'd play four times and forget about; at least then I'd have more to do tonight than be pissy that I left the magic wire that connects my camera to my computer in Florida. Fuck you, mouse. Speaking of which, time to get back to the Disney articles. Hope everyone's well. See you in a bit...

I’ve seen a few links to Transformers related stuff on here over the last few days. Thanks to the people who posted them.

The pics from the movie set look pretty cool. Since it would be too expensive to have the Decepticons be planes, at least they picked cool cars. I especially like the pics of the Decepticon police car.

As far as the new TF Classic toy line goes, I’m underwhelmed. The 20th Anniversary Prime was totally kick ass, and I was hoping for more like him. The newest incarnations of Prime and Megatron just look kind of goofy. Some of the other molds look good though. I just wish they could come out with more "regular" TF toys that are as awesome as the Robots in Disguise line. The car brothers, Optimus Prime, and Ultra Magnus from that lineup are probably my favorite molds ever. This is coming from a staunch G1 guy.

Creepy movies? Can’t say I’ve seen one lately.

Doc Bong-

There’s lots of great games on the DS. Advance Wars, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart DS, and Castlevania are all great games, although only one of them really uses the touch screen much. Also, you can plug in the classic 8-bit games that Nintendo came out with a couple years ago. Lately I’ve been playing original Metroid a lot. Does anyone think these games are way harder now than when we were kids with twitchier reflexes?

Like The Kraken, I can’t stand slasher flicks. I’ve never been able to handle the blood. Even some bloodless horror flicks make me queasy, or at least freak me out for ours; I guess I’m sensitive like that. I was a little grossed out by "Batman Returns," which I rented yesterday from the library because it was the only 90s Batman movie I hadn’t seen. The verdict – better than the first one, but I’m still a bit dark and dank for my taste. I’m more of a Superman girl, anyway; I’m jazzed about the new one coming.

Doc Bong: Your episode is "A Case of the Stubborns."

Manimal: Your episode is "In the Closet"

Both are up on Youtube.

Another favorite is "Bigelow’s Last Smoke." Inventive premise.

I rented Saw 2 last week. Not bad, but Saw is better. HBO has been showing "Freddy’s Dead" lately.

I don’t mind blood, some of my favorite movies spill it by the bucketful. I want to say the torture stuff puts me off a bit, but for every Saw or Hostel that I skipped I can think of a scene from Reservoir Dogs or Lost or Sin City or something that I watched gleefully so I guess I’m full of it. Oh and there was lots of ooky torture stuff in Black Dahlia and I devoured that, plus I’ve always enjoyed reading about various serial killers so I don’t know what I’m saying. I’m ticked right now because I was recording Shaun of the Dead off HBO last night and thanks to the blackout we had I didn’t get the last half. Is it wrong that I cheered a little when they put those Enron jerks away for the rest of their naturals?
Last Sopranos (and Big Love) tonight! Exciting.

Ryane- I don’t know if you’re still reading, but you get to the base of Mount Crenel via the uper left corner of Hyrule Town. Normally, a guard is blocking that entrance, but now that you’ve obviously accomplished what you needed to in the woods, he should be out of your way.

The "Nose" episode of Tales from the Darkside is the one I remember most as well! funny how thats common amongst us.
I’m pretty sure Data from Star Trek was in that episode.

Been a week but gotta love it, gotta miss it.

Being in the UK I don’t ‘get’ alot of the articles but love reading them none the less. Keep up the good work cocker. Keep it real.

Thinking on the redisigned Classic TFs.
If anything, at least Megatron is back to being a gun. The blaster mode needs a little more tweaking though. Wonder if it has that "little red button on the bottom." Prime’s a good try, too. I understand the need to tread the line between the old farts and the young guys, but if the Autobots look too up-to-date and spiffy, it kind of circumvents the whole blending in concept.

I went to work a few Monday mornings ago to find one of my co-workers had left a real nice condition Sixshot on my desk. It took us a fucking week to figure out how the legs come out and shit and got him into all 6 transformations.

I’m terribly jealous, Mystie.

For some reason one of the google ads at the top after the number of comments is for Gastric Bypass Lawyers. Heh. Is there something Matt or one of the others isn’t telling us?

Chestnuts roasted by Invader Norbert @ 06/04/2006 6:06 PM

Word up on the Venture Bros. DVD. The commentaries are worth it just to hear them justify which male character they’d have sex with if they had to.

So far this summer I was bored by The Davinci Code and I hear The Breakup (which both me and my boyfriend wanted to see) isn’t going to be that great either… you owe me a good movie, Hollywood. Pirates of the Caribbean better not suck.

Chestnuts roasted by Welsh Rabbit @ 06/04/2006 7:41 PM

I’ve read the same about Breakup, which is unfortunate because the ads actually made it seem funny. I really don’t see how they could screw up Pirates if they tried. They could put JarJar in it as a salty bartender with a heart of gold and it would still probably be the biggest movie of the summer.

no snt, its sunday night, went to see my cousin graduat. Congrats to all new graduates. I didn’t mind Hostel, I was ready to wright it off until one scene at the end, that softned my view of it. Still wouldn’t see it again.

Chestnuts roasted by mrjayberry @ 06/04/2006 8:55 PM

The only movies I’m interested in actually going to see this summer is Cars (gonna see it friday, even if it kills me!), and Clerks II.

Chestnuts roasted by Invader Norbert @ 06/04/2006 9:20 PM

Yeah, I can’t wait for Cars. Da Vinci Code was mediocre..certainly not the Blockbuster everyone thought….Haven’t seen X3, don’t know if/when I will… But Cars and Pirates are where it’s at, IMO.

Now that you mention it, Doc Bong, Glen/Glenda was a bit Bowieish…Don’t know what it was about that movie but I really hated it (and ultimately myself??).
Thanks JLA for the DARKSIDE update.
Has anybody seen the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN figures at TARGET? Very cool. Plus the death of General Grievous figure but 12.99 is a bit much for my blood. Waiting for that one to go on clearance.

Chestnuts roasted by The Manimal @ 06/04/2006 11:05 PM

Your welcome Manimal. BTW, I just found quite a few "Are you afraid of the dark?" episodes there also.

Chestnuts roasted by JLAJRC @ 06/05/2006 12:31 PM

Man, I spent last night watching The Warriors.
Warriors…come out and playaaay…

Haven’t seen the Pirates figures yet, but I’m so geeked for the movie ever since I had a dream that Jack Sparrow was seducing me. Kick ass.

Hey Matt,
I really enjoyed ‘Hostel’, but everyone else I’ve talked to who’s seen it thinks it’s crap. Why? Am I alone in this world? I also saw ‘Eurotrip’ right before ‘Hostel’ and so I could see what the writers were thinking. Now, I want to go to Bratislava! The last 15 minutes are sort of like "Kill Bill".
Damn, maybe it was all the beer I drank in the theater.
I also loved ‘SAW’…
