My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

Regular Saturday Night Thread.

I'm very excited to be writing the article I'm currently writing, even if 3% of you will remember what I'm writing about. Meanwhile, SNT!

I think we can safely guess it is one of Supermarket Sweep, Kidstreet, or Bumper Stumpers. Unless those shows only aired in Canada

SuperRecoome, I’m not Matt, but I just picked some up at Pathmark this morning.

Small bit of trivia: Julia Louis Dreyfuss hosts SNL tonite. She is the first female cast member to do so. Which is amazing considering that Jane Curtain, Joan Cusack, Janeane Garofolo, and Jan Hooks (hey all J names) went on to greater fame.

I’ve come out of hibernation to guess KidSongs

Or how about My Secret Identity or Out of This World?

Brentantation:
Yes, we did (and still do, in re-run form) have Supermarket Sweep here in the U.S. I’m not sure about the others.

Anyway, two more shows I just thought up (happen to be two of my old favorites):
Square One TV
3-2-1 Contact

Chestnuts roasted by DeeJay @ 05/13/2006 8:09 PM

Hey Matt, I wasn’t around for the last SNT, but did you ever end up doing the Ecto Cooleritas thing?

Also, my guesses: Zoobilee Zoo, Silverhawks, Herman’s Head (Howard’s Head? I can’t remember), Don’t Just Sit There, and Saturday Morning Special (or whatever, the mannequin show)

Chestnuts roasted by Kyle @ 05/13/2006 8:18 PM

Today’s Special. The mannequin’s name was Geoff, and there was a mouse who always spoke in ryhmes. I believe the security guard’s name was Sam,

Chestnuts roasted by DeeJay @ 05/13/2006 8:40 PM

CBS Storybreak?

Galaxy High School?

Pole Position?

Venturing into female territory, how about Beverly Hills Teens, Lady Lovely Locks, or Rose Petal Place? Matt’s done stuff on "My Little Pony" before.

The "Mutant Turtles: The Next Generation" show with the girl turtle?

Chestnuts roasted by starwenn @ 05/13/2006 8:44 PM

DeeJay

Can’t believe I couldn’t remember that. I’ve been correcting people on the title for years, and they always say "Today’s Special? Are you sure?" And now I hang my head in shame. Good lookin’ out, money.

Chestnuts roasted by Kyle @ 05/13/2006 9:04 PM

Lady Lovely Locks did’nt know it was a show, I had all the toys.zWhat I would’nt do to be wearing a rodent with a long hairy tail in my hair right now!

Brentantation:Bumper Stumpers woot, I kicked ass at that show!

Chestnuts roasted by IHAQ @ 05/13/2006 9:09 PM

Is it Count Duckula?I miss that show.

I remember being intrigued by that "Next Mutation" live action version of the Ninja Turtles. But upon finding out it was part of the same universe as the Power Rangers…ugh.

I have considerable beef with the Power Rangers just for replacing the Ninja Turtles in terms of popularity–but having the nerve to involve them in their cheap-looking shennanigans?! Unforgivable! Rrrgh…

Anyway, DeeJay, I remember Under the Umbrella Tree! With the live action woman, and the mole, bluejay, and iguna puppets–I forget their names, except for Iggy, of course, who was decidedly the best. I remember it was this show that made me learn why puppets were never shown from the waist down–in a tap dancing episode that never showed their legs, my dad told me why this was (guys underneath were molesting them).

I’ve got it…Spy Tech.

Those things were cool, but all I had were the binocularsm which were OK, and the long-range microphone, which was awesome.

I remember being able to hear anything and everything with that microphone. I could hear conversations being held in the next room or from a pretty long distance. I mostly just used it to hear the conversations that my parents had. You know, the ones that they don’t want the kids hearing. It was great, but one day I left it out in the rain after using it to obviously listen in on some neighborhood girls who were playing tennis in the street (I think they were syaing something along the lines of "what a dork"). I don’t need to tell you that water and electronics are a bad combo.

Anyway, I have plenty of other fond memories of my friends and I using our Spy Tech gadgets for our little “missions.”

Does it have to do with Reagan’s Iran-Contra?

I bet it’s about that.

Chestnuts roasted by rockasoo @ 05/13/2006 9:56 PM

Hmmm, what could it be? I am a big boy, I can wait to find out.

I just read the Crispy Critters article from before I was a regular X-Er. Good analysis. I remember being INCREDIBLY disappointed in that cereal as well as Croonchy Stars. I got E. Claire to watch the Crispy Critters commerical. She had no reaction one way or the other. Yet another disappointing involving Crispy and the gang :( .

Oh yeah, maybe this will take everyone’s attention away from "What is Matt working on?" mania. I am teaching the Vietnam/counterculture era this week. Survey

Chestnuts roasted by The Manimal @ 05/13/2006 10:05 PM

Manimal, you should do a couple "history in music" moments to go with your vietnam lessons. you can play your class popular songs speaking out against the war from artists like Creedance Clearwater, Dylon, etc. It would help frame the events and alot of the public’s, if not counter-culture’s, reactions to them.

Chestnuts roasted by Joker @ 05/13/2006 10:09 PM

Joker,
That’s the idea. My question is which songs? I have a LOT already but I don’t want to miss/leave anyone out. That’s where the SNT people come in. :)
P.S. good job giving a shout out to the much underrated Dr. Katz at the beginning.

Chestnuts roasted by The Manimal @ 05/13/2006 10:13 PM

I just got the new Dr.Katz dvd, it’s great.-
Fortunate Son by Creedence is a must.
For What It’s Worth (Stop, Hey What’s That Sound) by Buffalo Springfield is a good one. focusing on the police brutality brought upon the protesters.-

To continue from my post in the last thread:

I’m going to be honest, I am so anti-Wii, it’s not funny. I mean I at least was just indifferent when it was called the Revolution. But now it must be destroyed, because it’s showing up the PS3 and that is just not cool. "Oh its cute and the control is so intuitive". Bite me. I know I’m biased but you also know that’s just how I roll :)

The sad part is I’m going to change phone services just to get whatever phone Before Crisis will be on. Damn them for making the new VII games on four different platforms. Because they know we’ll buy ‘em. We are sad, sad gamers. Vincent and Cloud, why must I love you so?!?!?

Chestnuts roasted by Knegative @ 05/13/2006 10:24 PM

Or Maybe it’s a show he’s already reviewed before and it’s a super-creepy special episode of it.

At any rate, I’d like to venture it’s a long awaited cartoon show that’s finally coming to DVD, like Animaniacs, Hong Kong Phooey, Freakazoid, etc. But this is X-E, reviews of these shows wil take another 5 years.

I’m going to vote for the most bizarre anime on Cartoon Network: Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo.

Besides Julia on SNL (and she revealed that there’s gonna be a special secret suprise!), tonight is also the last episode of Justice League: Unlimited. It’s on at 10:30, right after Bo-bobo.

I’m wondering if this article is the same one Matt mentioned being excited about writing http://x-entertainment.com/updates/entries/archives/00000734.html">months ago and then never wrote. Hmmm…

I spent my Saturday spending nearly $30 on shampoo and conditioner. My hair has the power of http://www.rusk1.com/products/deepshine/index.asp">marine technology, bitches!
