This SNT brought to you buy the “Fright Pack!”

This edition of the X-Entertainment Saturday Night Thread is brought to you by...

Anchor Bay's "Fright Pack," a collection of six "campy classics" dressed in an awesomely shitty beer six-pack-esque box that was too cool to pass up on even despite the fact that I already own two of the movies inside. The set runs for 25 bucks, and if you'll forgive the parade of italics, includes: Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, Return of the Killer Tomatoes, Transylvania 6-5000, Return to Horror High, Sleepaway Camp and Vamp. Rent out a lakehouse and bring about 6,200 Amstels...you've got a party.

Here's to hoping at least a few of you are spending this SNT in the dark, watching a bad scary flick with a laptop over your crotch and alcohol in arm's reach.

What if you wanted to be a professional basketball?

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 05/08/2006 3:48 PM

Danny DeVito should be a professional basketball.

Sorry, Jedoc, didn’t mean to leave out the media center support team.
Yeah, making a difference is overrated. :(

Oh my God, Sleepaway Camp . . . the face at the end . . . THE FACE! :O

I don’t wanna come off as a johnny-come-lately here, but I too will be throwing my hat into the overworked, underpaid ring of the teaching community in the fall of ’07. I’ll be teaching grades 7-12 langauge arts classes, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. You said it, Manimal…I think that X-E must bear an inherent charm that acutely appeals to those of us who are just crazy enough to be teachers!

Chestnuts roasted by The Yeti @ 05/08/2006 10:01 PM

This has to be a personal best (worst?) for most posts but anyway.
Yeti, this is going to made up but it is true: I was going to make a joke about you becoming a teacher(you seem like such an upstanding anti-social kinda guy with a disdain for authority) but I guess the joke is on me.
Is there anyone on this thing who…?
(A) is not a teacher
(B) is not going to become a teacher soon
(C) is considering a career in teaching
(D) all of the above

Bludge: Thanks for the kind words, and welcome to the profession! Think twice before you let yourself be in charge of a PROM though- that damn thing consumed my life for 4 straight months…often, I would only get home at 6:30 PM, and had been at school since 7:30 AM…so, it makes for loooong days.

As for myself- despite LOVING my job, I am quitting!! The boyfriend got into Masters at our old university, so we are moving back to New Brunswick for next year. I will be demoted from being an awesome grade 10 English teacher with her OWN CLASSROOM to….a lowly substitute teacher…just like Bludge. Oh Jesus!

But, it’s cool. I am tired of this rural area. My school only has 150 students total, and the town has a population of 5,000….of which only 1,000 are English. (I live in Quebec) SO, I will enjoy living in a city again.

Sorry for the long post- felt like sharing! And who knew there were so many teachers on the site? I thought it was just Manimal and me. Wow!

I was going to become an elementary school teacher, but I switched majors to English.

I think there are a lot of teachers here because the occupation attracts a lot of people with fond memories of their childhood, and of ages when they too were in school. Surprise, surprise: so do nostalgia websites!

I am not a teacher, nor do I want to become one. I’m an engineer. It’s a damn fine profession, and I’m curious if anyone else here is one.

In my mind, the only thing that sucks about being an engineer is the potential to screw up. If you make a bad mistake and none of your peer reviewers catches it, your company could be out a lot of money. Worse yet, you could kill someone.

That’s why I wanted a job at Hasbro. If you screw up, you’re unlikely to hurt or kill somebody, unless irresponsible parents do something like giving a toy with small parts to a two year old. Also, designing toys sounds like the coolest job on earth. Unfortunately, I just can’t seem to get my foot in the door there.

I’m not a teacher. And I won’t ever be one because I… you know, hate kids.

Hey Muppet Baby, my brother’s in college in New Brunswick. Is the university you’re talking about Rutgers?

Chestnuts roasted by Welsh Rabbit @ 05/09/2006 12:20 PM

Hmm, Quebec? I guess it’s not Rutgers, unless you’re moving really far. And New Jersey’s not worth that. Burn!

Chestnuts roasted by Welsh Rabbit @ 05/09/2006 12:23 PM

actually manimal, i start attending school in sept. and i plan on becoming a history teacher, so there’s one more for the list!

Not a teacher, though the original plan was for me to go for my MA and PhD after getting my BA in history. Damn burn out. I toyed briefly with the idea of going for Secondary Education but decided I really don’t have the temperment for it. Was thisclose to getting my emergancy cert in NJ during an unemployment time until they told me my options were Newark, Jersey City or Asbury Park. Yeeessch! Found a temp job real quick that time.

Not that many people will be back to read this thread now that a new one is posted, but yeah- I meant New Brunswick the PROVINCE, in Atlantic Canada. I am moving back to Fredericton, New Brunswick. *does a happy dance*

Chestnuts roasted by Muppet Baby @ 05/09/2006 3:41 PM

I figured as much. I was all excited to see New Brunswick mentioned at first, since I live in such close proximity to New Brunswick, NJ. :)
