Spaz, I, in fact, own said LEGO Star Destroyer. I happen to be an avid LEGOmaniac from way back and that beast took me literally several days working on it for hours each day. The "wing" segments get a little repetitive, but on the whole it was a blast. And the feeling of pride when you complete it is rather substantial. My only complaint with the set is that the included Blockade Runner is about two inches long. I realize that it’s to scale and that if you made the rebel ship bigger then the actual Star Destroyer would have to equal your house in size. (And the set is expensive enough as it is.) It’s just a little thing that irks me.

But, yeah, cool set.

Sorry to double, but I might as well mention that I also possess the TIE Interceptor, X-Wing, and AT-AT. The walker has a cute little LEGO Luke hanging off of it.

Matt, whatever you do do NOT turn on Bravo right now. Pee-Wee just hitched a ride with LARGE MARGE!!!!!!!!!

It’s fun to read about everyone’s X-E memories and all… but it sucks when you get reminded of a great old article, and when you go look at it, none of the pictures are available anymore. Stupid dumb internet.

Every time I’ve checked the blog tonight Welsh Rabbit has had the last word. Eerie.

Ghosted by mrjayberry @ 03/27/2006 10:49 PM EST

Welsh Rabbit, yeah I hate that. I always want to read the eBay articles, but I don’t think the pics are there anymore.

You can try the Wayback Machine, on http://www.archive.org to see if the images you’re looking for were captured on a crawl.

Rhino-

Thanks for the review. I just picked up the B-Wing and built it tonight. I think I might have tragic new addiction…

Ghosted by spaz307 @ 03/28/2006 2:01 AM EST

Dammit, you guys. You know I can’t afford the lego blocks. I haven’t got the money to purchase the sets, the time to put them together, or the space in my apartment to display them. You’re just aggravating an age-old addiction. But I forgive you, and so here’s a site about a guy building Serenity out of legos. Cheers.

Jedoc very nice!
I miss legos.

Ghosted by kb @ 03/28/2006 8:08 AM EST

I never got into branded Legos. Even the non-branded theme sets (pirates, etc.) never did anything for me. I liked to get generic houses and vehicles and make my own little adventures for them. The other way seems too forced.

Want to know where the biggest Hidden Mickey is?

It’s the courtyard in front of the Great Movie Ride at MGM Studios. That entire area is one huge Mickey head.

And yes, Big Mickey is watching you at all times in the parks, especially in the toilet stalls…

I loved Legos as a kid. I used to use them together with my Joe’s and Transformers. They were the covert midget assassin group they used to do their…ahem..dirty work…

Who would expect yellow, happy faced little midgets to be trained in the deadly arts of Ninjitsu and Wu’Tang….? they made for awesome assassins.

They use to live in a town mixed of Lego houses and Construx monoliths.

I even made a movie with them, called Robot The Movie. Unfortunately, the T-Rex Construx that went haywire wiped out their once proud race….and smiling faces….

=(

The first time i found this site, was when i accidentally came upon the page that has several 80’s ads. I checked those out, then went about my business. A few months later, I was doing a Google search for Charlie Brown, and came upon the page where Matt recreated the Charlie Bropwn Thanksgiving Dinner. So I read that (and am determined to try doing that myself) after doing that, I clicked on the link to the homepage, and read some of the articles that was there (was 2nd or 3rd "chapter" in the Chia Plot…so u know how long I’ve been coming to the page) After reading those, I did a search for "Matt" to find all articles written by him…a few months later, I was all caught up…the rest as they say….is history! :)

I always divided my toys into their own little countries, excluding the rebels from star wars because they were rebels for Christ sakes! Try to keep up here people! My Lego’s had their own empire. I made giant mechs, jet fighters, tanks, you name it.
In 2002 I stopped buying Lego’s and slowly but surely the empire crumbled. Old vehicles and mini figures were now scraped to make new ones, the peasants revolted, it was civil war. My star wars Lego’s stayed out of the fighting and went off on their own into the basement. The rest of the Lego’s soon followed but the fighting continued, only now the monarchy didn’t have the support of Cobra and the Galactic Empire as my action figures had remained in my room. Soon the peasants had formed their own government and a fully fledged military.
The forces loyal to the monarchy were far outnumbered and soon betrayed the monarchy. Soon it was complete anarchy. My medieval Lego’s went off on there own and the military left the citizens to fight amongst themselves. Now the star wars, medieval, and the futuristic military Lego’s have all claimed that they are individual states. The civilian Lego’s were able to get their act together for a time but their government was quickly corrupted. Now their would-be president is asking my Gi Joes for political asylum though he will most likely be denied.
May god have mercy on them.

With eleven versions of Optimus Prime (G2, RiD, Armada, Energon, Cybertron, SpyChanger Laser Prime and RiD Super, Beast Wars Bat Primal, TransMetal Primal, Optimal Optimus, and Beast Machines Primal) to operate as a ruling council, there is no dissention among my troops. Only three Megatrons, though.

The first time I came across x-e was during a period of intense nostalgic feelings (go figure) so I did a Google search to see if He-man and She-ra’s Secret of the Sword was being released on DVD. This was around last June, so the good news hadn’t been released yet. Anyway, one of the searches linked me to Matt’s Secret of the Sword review. I honestly laughed until my throat was raw. If anyone here has not read the review, please, for the love of all that is good, do yourself a favor and do so. Do, however, make sure you have quick access to bathroom facilities, as the review may cause you to lose control of all bodily functions. I don’t want to hype it up too much, but it is that funny.

I found X-E years ago, I think around Christmas time. I have no idea how, but I think it had something to do with 80’s commercials.

This site is the best, after email I come here.

Batman lego sets finally came into our TRU yesterday :)

Ghosted by Ryane @ 03/28/2006 6:50 PM EST

First article?

Cripes, I can’t recall. I think I started coming here . . .7 years ago. Something like that. Nostalgia for days I can barely remember drew me in. And bright colors.

I clearly remember the Nads article because it was my favorite and I was always strangely fascinated by the infomercial.

However, I think close behind that one in fondness were all the Chick comics articles (that were later pulled for legal reasons?) because they were already so ridiculous anyway.

MrJayBerry, did you consider that I’m typing on a laptop in my car while looking through your window with binoculars? I like your underpants.

I like the generic legos better too. I remember making beds for my My Little Ponies and a boat for my Transformers. I don’t remember where the Transformers were going, but since I was big into Egyptian mythology, they may have been travelling back in time. You know, a time boat.

Just got the new LEGO catalogue today, and the Batman line is on the cover. The style may be from the new cartoon, though, cause I don’t really recognize anything. Maybe someone who watches the new series could confirm or deny. Anyways…

I got nothin’ else really.

Ghosted by Rhino @ 03/28/2006 9:07 PM EST

It’s not really based on any specific Batman work, but most of the inspiration is drawn from the Tim Burton movies and the Ed McGuiness Batman comics.

Optimus Primes face sharpied on them.

Speaking of Legos, has anyone seen the commercial for the new Legos Eggos waffles? You can now play with them. Weird.

I haven’t seen the commercial, but I have a feeling the phrase "Leggo my Eggo!" comes into play.

My mom got those eggos after I told her about them, and well… they are cool looking and all, but you really can’t play with them too well. :/ I mean, it would be basically the same as building with regular eggos, sorry to say. :(

Just picked up the King Kong Special Edition (and it came with a free box of Goobers!). I want to watch the feature but I just watched a bunch of Deadliest Catch so I’m at my scary shipwreck quota for the day. On to the bonuses!

Wow. I take back SOME of the bad things I said about Wal-Mart. I bought the big special edition GOBLET OF FIRE DVD there yesterday but I didnt really miss it until today. I looked everywhere for this thing and I finally make the desperation call to the store. Guess what? It was there. Mixed feelings: While I am glad that they were honest and all, this still never should have happened. I guess a win is a win though so VIVA WAL-MART…for now.

I still firmly believe–in the face of abundant evidence to the contrary–that the coolest legos ever made were the ones we used to play with at my grandma’s house. They had belonged to my dad and his nine siblings, and they were 1970s era "space legos." You just don’t get predominantly blue and grey color schemes in legos these days. We spent days trying to build Star Wars vehicles, even though we had the combined engineering expertise of a garden slug. Mostly, we ended up with lopsided monstrosities which only resembled spaceships because we held them up while saying "This is a spaceship, k?" And then we would slide them across the linoleum floor until they hit the crack under the door and exploded. Best toy ever.

Ghosted by Jedoc @ 03/29/2006 6:35 AM EST

I have been passing on the latest wave of Star Wars legos for a while now and I don’t know why. The A-Wing, B-Wing and Interceptor are all sweet. The B-Wing even comes with Ten Numb! I think I may have to get Slave 1 today tho, he comes with Dengar, IG-88 and Boba Fett… :)

and Jedoc… old school legos were the greatest!!

Ghosted by Double G @ 03/29/2006 9:09 AM EST

Sometimes I think I’m the only person in the world who never really cared about Legos. Probably because I could never build anything that looked like anything. My Lego projects were usually limited to stacking a bunch together to make a "brick wall," so I could run my Hot Wheels into it, or so that He-Man couldn’t get to Skeletor. Because he was on the other side of the wall, see.

Kinglash:

My MP Prime keeps everyone in check, except it goes to his head sometimes. Just because he has the long smokestacks and all…

He laughs at Omega Prime because he’s all plastic…

Prime is such a dick…almost as big of a dick as Superman….

I don’t know if any of you are threadless.com people, but if you are and even if you are not, click on my name. There is a Peeps t-shirt in the running and I want it. And I can’t add much more to the legos discussion.

Superdickery is a great site to brighten up your day. He’s no Captain Hero in the dickery department, but he’s close.

The only branded lego sets I have are a Star Wars Droid fighter, Green Goblin attacking MJ, and Spidey’s subway set with Ol’ Webhead, Ock, Jolly Jonah, and a nondescript transit worker. I’m going to get the SW Greivous set for the General’s Lego likeness and big lizard, the Obi-Wan figure is a bonus. Greivous and Otto can argue about who has the better set of arms.

He-Man could so punch through a lego wall.

Ghosted by Jeff @ 03/29/2006 3:56 PM EST

Possibly, possibly. But I doubt even he could budge a wall of Mega Bloks that are squeezed together really tight. Those things form a bond on the molecular level that can only be broken by prying at the near-nonexistant crack with your thumbnail until you bleed.

Ghosted by Jedoc @ 03/29/2006 6:04 PM EST

Jedoc: Ha ha! I agree- those damn Mega Bloks could make a kid cry. All that work, then you cannot take the damn things apart!

I LOVE Legos to death, but I am currently Lego-less. After reading all of these posts, I am not sure if I can continue to live this way.

Ghosted by Muppet Baby @ 03/29/2006 7:42 PM EST

Jedoc, I grew up with the kind of blue and gray "space" Legos you describe. However, I was born in 1977 and I don’t think that the toys I played with could be called "70s era." Perhaps the style lasted into the 80s, or you’re mistaken about the age of the bricks. Actually, I think my mom still has them somewhere. She usually drags them out when young kids come over.

One of the last sets I got (up until last weekend anyway) was probably the coolest one. It was an entirely black set of space Legos. The blue and grey Legos didn’t stand a chance.

I need to stage a royal rumble to decide who commands my toy collection. My Masterpiece Optimus Prime is the wussy American version, so I don’t think he’d win. The other incarnations of Prime (vintage G1, re-release G1, Powermaster, RID, Energon, Armada and BM) just don’t have the size or heft. Fortress Maximus or Scorponok might win on sheer size, but I think my squadron of Veritechs (the first 5 masterpieces and Jetfire) might cheat and work together.

Ghosted by spaz307 @ 03/29/2006 8:11 PM EST

Does anyone else find it annoying when your parents let their young visitors play with your old toys? Of course, I was an only child, so I never did learn to share very well. I try to be a grownup, but I still wince sometimes when I see a kid do something especially violent to one of my old treasures.

Ghosted by spaz307 @ 03/29/2006 8:15 PM EST

spaz307
When I was a kid (about 6) my parents gave away our jungle gym. It was one of those dome ones made with triangle shapes. They gave it to my mom’s friend’s kid. I was SO MAD. It wasn’t even as though we (me and my sisters) didn’t play on it, cause we did. And in the winter we’d throw old sheets on it and then pile snow on it and make an igloo. It was the coolest yard toy ever.
Ugh, I’m getting upset over it. Rant over.

Ghosted by kb @ 03/29/2006 8:25 PM EST

Hmmmm, random stuff that pops into my head…usually song lyrics from the most annoying songs ever. An example? A song listing the months that I heard in preschool. At least once a month I get that damn thing stuck in my head.

I’m really not sure what my first X-E article was. I was directed here by the Queen of Wands webcomic about 2 1/2 years ago. I was hooked from day one! Oh, and I read the Bitnerblog in one day when I stumbled across it…what a trip! I just wish I’d been there for it. Since I wasn’t there, is it ok for me to say that missing it was so Bitner?

Late addition here, but I first discovered X-Entertainment after one of my fellow reporters at Richard Stockton College’s school newspaper gave it a glowing review. I don’t even remember what my first article was anymore, but the ones that made me a fan were the original trip to Wildwood and Atlantic City articles. I’d lived down at the shore all my life, and it was great to see the Boardwalk and AC from the perspective of one of the multitudes of tourists who invaded my then-home every year.
