Black Cherry Vanilla Coke.

For a few week stretch a few weeks back, every bus ride into work brought me the sight of a gigantic billboard promoting Coke's new "Black Cherry Vanilla" flavor, and of course, I knew that the time would come. That time was tonight. While I have nothing but love for the collective insanity of soda companies over the past few years, I can't let that love silence my taste buds: I really don't dig this stuff. I can envision children liking it, because it tastes more like candy than soda, but as something that I tried to wash down old Beefaroni with this evening, nyyyyah think I'll pass. Tastes more like cherry-enhanced cream soda than cherry/vanilla Coke, and therein lies the problem: I detest cream soda. Like, if the guy who invented cream soda caught fire and asked me for help, the only reason I wouldn't spit at him is because saliva could conceivably make a fire less intense. I'm a bit bias. If you like cream soda, you'll probably like this more than I did.

Is anyone else watching the wretched A Charlie Brown Valentine on ABC right now? I’m assuming I’m one fo few who are alone on Valentine’s Day but I warn you to keep away from ABC for at least the next half-hour…there is just something wrong about a Peanuts special made in 2002.

Wow…there WAS a really good, old Peanuts Valentine special, if I remember correctly. Did they show both, or is the new one overtaking the old?

I just prefer plain old Vanilla Coke. Or preferably Mountain Dew Pitch Black II. Nectar of the gods I tell you.

I love cream soda and I love cherry soda, so I’ve been picking up Black Cherry Vanilla Coke wherever I can. It’s my new favorite soda. Hell, if they’re going to discontinue my OLD favorite, Vanilla Coke, they might as well do it with something that tastes good. The Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper is good, too, and I’m not a huge Dr. Pepper fan, either.

I actually had a very plesant Valentine’s for someone who’s single. I got to see my cousin and meet her hilariously rambunctious kids (watching the two little boys wrestle was one of the funniest things I’ve seen in weeks), eat Orange Dreamcycle cake, have a nice chicken dinner with my uncle and sister, and meet some friends of the family for the first time. Oh, and I got to see an episode of "Good Eats" on macaroni and cheese. I haven’t watched that since I broke up with my boyfriend three years ago.

Bringing back up the awesome topic of ninjas, remember when TMNT hit its stride, and then 3 Ninjas the movie came out, and then Surf Ninjas came out. I only bring it up because I was up really late last night watching Surf Ninjas on TBS.

Rob Schnieder as a high school kid, an awesome Game Gear that could predict the future, that kid that I think also played in TMNT as a troubled youth that was an awesome ninja, Leslie Nelson as a cyborg ninja bad guy, Surfing plus Ninjaing!!!

Has Matt ever reviewed Surf Ninjas?

If not, Matt, you’ve gotta give us a ninja’s of our past article. Think of the possibilities.

I didn’t watch the CB Charlie Brown Special but is there any holiday they haven’t covered in some form? The only ones I can think of is maybe St. Patricks Day, New Years Eve/Day, April Fools, and the 4th of July.

They even did specials that had squat to do with anything. Anyone remember FlashBeagle and the all musical one(that one was fun). Plus they had a Nickelodeon cartoon I think.

Lori – yes, I had Channel One. I thought it was okay until about 8th grade…then it got king of old – I completely ignored it once in high school. I did find the 1992 election tracking interesting, but I STILL didn’t learn much about our governmental system until latter high school and college. The only reason I really cared that much about it was that it was time NOT spent doing schoolwork. Instead I watched TV and learned about current events. I remember the girls in my classes being like so "AWwwww…" when that Ryan guy left for college. I always thought that was kind of lame…oh, well.

Rhino and Norbert – I am actually an Alpha Psi Omega alumni. It was…decent, I suppose. I kind of one of those people that didn’t want to be in charge of anything, just kind of wanted to be "in". The most fun probably was when I got to see the other suckers who were going to pledge, because of the stuff I got put through. Mainly, I ended up embarrassing myself (which happened way too much for my liking from college on backwards) and I was in…of course, I was the sole pledge for my frat. I too lived (and still do) live at home, mainly for financial reasons – hoping to change that situation this year, maybe.

I don’t drink much pop nowadays but when I do it is usually a cola or lemon-lime drink. I really try to stay away from most caffeine unless I REALLY need it – and then I usually end up feeling worse and more tired. I opt for iced tea usually – or a beer. I DO remember REALLY loving Crystal Pepsi and hope they bring it back. My Dad bought a BUNCH of Lemon Pepsi back in the day, mainly because it was on sale. I wasn’t really that fond of the stuff, although I DO remember drinking Surge in high school like it was oxygen. I swear I must have drunk SO much of that stuff as a teenager…don’t think my body could take it now. As a kid , Vernors and Faygo were staples of my childhood. I loved Rock ‘n Rye, Red Pop, and cream soda. Anyone remember Burple, that stuff in the collapsible container?

And finally, this is going to some kind of lame, but how do you format and add the cute little Jason and Chucky to posts?…

:) :( – Normal happy emoticon, normal sad emoticon. If that helps.

Fox, oh my God I remember 3 Ninjas, it was so awesome, yet so lame – total cheese, kind of like a Home Alone/TMNT hybrid. I have enormous affection for New Line Cinema, mainly because of the Jackie Chan movie releases, although I’m a purist and love the subtitles best. (Police Story I pwns you!) Wow, tangent. Never saw Surf Ninjas, but reminds me of the one movie called Surf Nazi’s Must Die…always curious about that one.

Oh yeah and "…I will tear out your liver!" My brother and I repeatedly cracked up whenever we heard that line.

So Michael Bay (Texas Chainsaw and Amityvillle remakes) is producing a Friday remake with the release date of Friday, October 13th. Thoughts?

Thoughts: Lots of hardcore fans are pissed. This hardcore fan is NOT pissed. Unless the score the trailer with video game music and make in-jokes of their in-jokes, I will be the 13th person on line.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 02/14/2006 10:21 PM

If you’ve never seen Surf Ninjas, just imagine the movie 3 Ninjas, now add surfing, a future seeing Game Gear, and Rob Schneider as one of the trio (there are two brothers and goober friend (Schneider)).

Chestnuts roasted by Fox @ 02/14/2006 10:21 PM

Sweet!

And if you’ve never seen Surf Ninjas, take the movie 3 Ninjas, add surfing, Game Gear, and Rob Schneider as one of the trio.

Again, plus Leslie Neilson as a cyborg ninja. How could that go wrong?

It’s a shame that Coca Cola took Vanilla Coke off the market, that was the best drink out there. I have tried black cherry vanilla, and I wasn’t really impressed by it. It has more of a cherry taste to it and not much vanilla.

Pepsi Blue tasted like straight up corn syrup.

I have that Flashbeagle special on tape, but it’s a commercially made one. It’s not the original we used to have with all the cool effects in the dance scenes and the commercials in between. And You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown was the musical, it was actually a Broadway show once.

I liked Pepsi Blue. And it made the best floats ever. Mmm, blue ice cream float thing…

I am gonna try this new stuff because I happen to love cream soda.

I just dumped a full 2 liter of Black Cherry Vanilla coke down the drain, nasty stuff…

Chestnuts roasted by Jackie @ 02/15/2006 5:47 PM

1. It tasted like Cherry Coke to me.

2. There’s Vanilla Coke, so where’s Chocolate Coke?

Chocolate Mint Coke?

Coke with peanut butter.

Mocha Almond Fudge Coke.

Klondike Coke.

Banana Coke.

Orange Coke.

Jawbreaker Coke.

Coke Sherbert.

Coke with Rum already in it.

Chocodile Coke.

Cool-Whip Coke.

"No," said the Chairman, "We’ll go with Lime."

3. Chocolate Pay Day vahst goohdt, yah.

I have not bought Coke in awhile. I have been buying cases of mixed SNAPPLES. I need to read the real facts, cause I love useless information. Today I learned a Dragonfly has six legs but can’t walk. Cool.

Personally, I love the plain Vanilla Coke, which, save for the fountain kind that you get at McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and cinemas, was the first Coca-Cola that I guzzled on a regular basis since they discontinued New Coke (which I actually loved; I would not be at all surprised if it turned out that vanilla was one of the new ingredients in the 1985 new formula).

Dunno if they have Black Cherry Vanilla yet in Canada. Can’t say that I’ve checked.

There is a http://www.savevanillacoke.org/">Save Vanilla Coke petition out there, if anyone wants to sign it.
