I think I found the name of the movie, I remembered it had Maureen Stapleton in it, its called the Electric Grandmother. Has anybody seen it?

And thank you Darth Poop, I sure don’t feel my age! Only 2 years to go till *sob* 30!!!

Chestnuts roasted by Jackie @ 01/15/2006 1:16 PM

Electric Grandmother 2, electric Boogaloo. We could make millions Jackie.

Chestnuts roasted by Darth Poop @ 01/15/2006 1:23 PM

Electric Grandmother sounds like a name of a shooter to me.

When you first described it, I was reminded of this other weird movie that my cousin used to rent when she babysat my sister and I. There was like this genius kid who made a robot and his dad’s ghost was inside the robot? Or maybe the dad made the robot. And then the dad-ghost-robot tucks in the kids at night and IT FREAKED ME OUT.

Happy Birthday!!

Brain Games is now *sob* over…

I remember Brain Games, albeit vaguely. I DO remember that closing line, though.

And did anyone else watch SNL last night? I thought…meh. Even the band wasn’t good. And they were on such a good streak too.

The only highlights I have of last night were the opening cartoon (I never realized if Robert Smigel still really does his cartoons now. He should really go back to making Ambiguously Gay Duo toons again, even if Colbert & Carrell have "busy" schedules. I was shocked when there wasn’t a new AGD toon when Steve Carrell hosted, talk about a wasted oppurtunity there.)

Mtrox – I guess it depends on what you call ‘literature.’

squee – I know, I made the spoiler mistake when I mentioned to a friend the other day that I was watching Firefly. He didn’t know I hadn’t seen Serenity yet. Spoilers, ah well. I think I have 3 discs of Lost to get through yet, but after watching the one where Sawyer and Kate go swimming in that pool…well, it was almost enough to make me never watch it again.

Wow…Brain Games and The Electric Grandmother…

Haven’t thought about either of those for a very very long time…but now I have an irresistible urge to find them and watch them again…

Electric Grandmother always made me sad at the end though…but then again, so did Brain Games when it was *sob* over…

I should borrow that tape from my grandmom and tape the Brain Games off of it.

Heads up: lots of shark goodness playing on Discovery Channel today. Even you east coasters can catch a few hours yet.
Norbert, I think it takes a lot longer to prep an AGD toon than they take to rehearse an episode of SNL, but now that Carrell is part of the NBC family I’d imagine they can call in a favor and have him record some voiceovers. (Who saw this week’s Office? "I burned my foot!" is taking over for "Yankee swap!" as the catchphrase getting rocked at my cube farm).

Jackie: I do remember the HBO 8:00 movie theme. It was the coolest thing. I also remember the HBO Comedy Hour theme. They need to bring those back.

Not to long ago, I across a website that had those network themes (that HBO theme, that CBS "Special" theme, etc.) I don’t know the address anymore since I went through them.

BrainGames ROCKED. I definately remember old Egghead and those games were fun. I also loved Encylopedia and those Jim Fyfe specials.

SNL sucked last night. Scarlet Johanson is a good actress, but she was very wooden last night. Most hosts at least attempt to act like they aren’t reading the cue cards.

The two best things last night (the Duluth song, and Andy Samberg’s quick impression of the Swedish Chef) everything else sucked.

I do remember the HBO version of the Electric Grandmother. Haven’t seen it in years. However, the Twilight Zone also did a version that gets played on Sci-Fi once in awhile.

So I decided to look up stuff about the movie Electric Grandmother and I found a band from Ohio that is using that for a name Check it out!

Hey everyone! I’m back–my IP erronously wound up on a ban list, and Matt wrote me to let me know the problem was fixed!!! So hence, I hath returned!

So, what’s up? I went for a job interview last Monday in Rittenhouse Square/Center City/Philadelphia at an ad agency (my 3rd interview). This one is really promising!! I’ll keep everyone posted!!!!

What else? Today was my graduation party–we had a nice big bunch here–my boyfriend, my twin brother’s girlfriend (who gave me a really nice gift), my mom’s aunt and uncle, my mom’s brother and sister-in-law (my uncle/godfather and aunt), my best friend, her husband, and their nearly 2-year old son, my parent’s friends, their two kids, and two of their extended family members, and my cousin/godmother, her husband, and their son. Nice packed house. It was a nice day.

Happy Birthday, Jackie–my boyfriend will be 28 in August, so don’t feel so bad.

SNL completely sucked last night, except for the cartoons and "You gotta buy a chandelier!"

The boyfriend and I watched "Wayne’s World" last night–jeez that is a classic movie! Or at least, classic in the sense that it was so popular among my age group, and we had no idea it came from SNL. I was 9 at the time I saw it, and I used to quote the apartment scene constantly. I remember saying "ribbed for her pleasure–ewww!" and having NO IDEA what I was saying!! Found out 2-3 years later–I think it was after seeing a condom commercial on MTV.

When SNL sucks, I pull out the "classic" collection (I have a great collection of cheap, out of print SNL annuals I used to buy at Suncoast in the late 90s).

So, I’m back, and you can guarantee I’ll be here alot now! At least till I get work. But, you’ll still see me on here. :)

Does anyone remember the movie where the soldier finds a home filled with spirits. He uses this sack and says, "Wickity wack, into my sack" and captures the spirits in the sack. Then he captures death in the sack and then no one ever died. It used to come on PBS all the time. Its actually kind of freaky. He finally lets death out of the sack and all these people fall over dead.

The two best things last night (the Duluth song, and Andy Samberg’s quick impression of the Swedish Chef) everything else sucked.

Those were great too, as well as the Chandelier ad. The Duluth theme taking up the whole show gave me good vibes of the James Brown in The Hot Tub sketch, where all Eddie Murphy did was sing about going into the hot tub, and that was it. I was gonna post more, but I pressed the "post" button too quick and didn’t want to double-post.

The Pat Robertson cartoon was funny (and is this the first episode that had a cartoon as the opening sketch?), but the Darwin one…not so much. Even though before, during, and after the cartoon it’s on a Christian Network, I found the previews for the other cartoons much funnier (like the Gay Embryo). The Hanna-Barberra parody worked when they poked on Michel Jackson, because his life is basically a HB Cartoon to begin with.

Well, Here’s hoping to next week’s SNL is better…The Strokes are the music guest.

Three nerdy updates for the day:
1) Watched WarGames this weekend for the first time in many years. It stars Matthew Broderick and the girl from Short Circuit. It’s one of those movies that makes me really nostalgic for the 80′s (and thus reminded me of X-E).
2) While watching Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, I noticed that one of Kevin’s brothers is "older Pete" from The Adventures of Pete and Pete.
3) While watching a little bit of Home Alone 3, I noticed that Alex’s (the "new" Kevin) sister is played by Scarlett Johanson. (And no, I have no idea why I thought it was worth my time to watch two Home Alone movies this weekend….)

END OF TRANSMISSION

Yes, Invader Norbert, I believe that this is the 1st time an animated sketch was the cold opening. Woo-hoo! I hope next week’s SNL is better–like I said, when it sucks, I wind up pulling out the classics, which are the jewels of my collection. I watched "The Best of Robin Williams" yesterday. The videos I purchase were dirt cheap ($4.99) videos which are in poor quality but are extremely good. NBC put this company out of commission in making SNL videos, and they made their own extremely-overpriced collection. Lions Gate came through in a big way though, with their DVDs coming in @ $9.99-$14.99 (Best Buy prices). But, they lost their lisence to put them out, so go out and grab them while you can–NBC Universal will be putting them out soon, and I heard something along the lines of $19.99 (I hope Best Buy will be cheaper).

Also, I was watching In Living Color on Friday night, and they showed that crazy "Home Alone" parody where Michael Jackson shows up at Macauly Culkin’s house. "Come on, Macauly, we can play with my monkey, or better yet, we can blow bubbles." "Come on Macauly, you can play with the Elephant Man’s bones, we can sleep in my oxygen chamber–I wanna see you Moonwalk."

And for anyone that’s interested–I got "Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix"!! My boyfriend was on Ebay, and found it for $50, brand-new (it was sealed up and everything!). so, he bought it (it was a buy it now item). He was gonna save it for Valentine’s Day but knew I’d be so excited to have it, so he made it a just-because present (don’t worry, he doesn’t shortchange on all the important gift-giving days). It’s alot of fun–I’m enjoying it so far, and getting a GREAT workout on some classic Mario songs. They even have this mini-game where you run (by simultaneously stepping on the left and right arrows) to run down a path, and jump on the up arrow to pull the flag on the flagpole. I got 5000 points on Friday night (I hit the top of the pole–yea!). they even play that cute victory song when you finish! And, you ALWAYS get fireworks (remember how you had to do certain things, like finish on a certain time or get a certain amount of points or coins to get those–I was always that kid who could only muster 1–count it–1 lousy firework!).

Yes, this is the first time SNL opened with an animated cartoon. Although I pretty sure Mr. Bill opened the show a couple of times in the early 80s. Also, I think one time in the first season, they had some Muppet monsters as regulars and they opened it up also.

I love watching random movies and discovering future stars in it. Hilary Swank is the Next Karate Kid. Vince Vaughn and Richard Schiff were in Jurassic Park 3. Sean Astin is in War of the Roses. The Supporting Actress in According to Jim was the daughter in the two Father of the Bride remakes.

I’m back with another random posting I really have to try to force myself to remember to do this regularly but my stupid videogame addicition always makes me forget my computer for days at a time until I get stuck and need a faq >_< .

Anyways, Gozer did you happen to also notice that the mom in Home Alone 3 was none other than chain smoking Marla from Gremlins 2?? *sigh* Right now I’m bored out of my mind the only thing I could find worth watching on TV was the anime flick "A Wind Called Amnesia" on AZNTV. It was a pretty interesting movie based on a novel by Hideyuki Kickuchi who also wrote vampire hunter D, Wicked City, and Demon City Shinjuku. For those who haven’t heard of it the basic plot is that one day the memories of the human race are wiped completely clean to the point that no one even remembers how to speak. It follows a young man who at the beginning is in the same boat as everyone else till he meets a boy who was immune to the wind because his brain was replaced with a computer. The Boy gives him a crash course in language and survival he also gives him the name Wataru ("traveler" in japanese) and true to the name tells him he must travel the US for reason I couldn’t quite pick up on.

It’s not a terribly original concept but even dubbed in english it was compelling enough that I watched it start to finish without flipping the channel. I have to say its one of the better anime movies I’ve seen on the channel. Most of the anime movies I’ve seen on AZN since they did their format change from being "The International Channel" are just really dated 80′s stuff only made worse by bad dubbing.

I can’t tell if what I’m reading is argle bargle or foofarah.

JLAJRC:

Yeah, it took me a long time to look at Sean Astin as Sam and not "Sean Astin," that guy from "Encino Man"

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 01/16/2006 2:36 AM

Cameron T:

I’m about to have just the opposite problem: Astin is supposed to be on the new season of 24, and I’m going to have a hard time restraining myself from screaming "HOBBIT" at the screen every time I see him.

Did anybody see the Adam Sandler movie, Fifty First Dates? It’s relatively worthless, save for Astin’s performance.

Chestnuts roasted by mtrox @ 01/16/2006 9:07 AM

Doesn’t anyone think of The Goonies or Rudy when they see Sean Astin? That’s my problem.

Chestnuts roasted by Jessica Marie @ 01/16/2006 9:28 AM

Sean Astin at his finest:

Sam: What we need is a few good taters.
Gollum: What’s taters, precious? What’s taters, eh?
Sam: Po-tay-toes. Boil ‘em, mash ‘em, stick ‘em in a stew. Lovely big golden chips with a nice piece of fried fish. Even you couldn’t say no to that.
Gollum: Oh yes we could. Spoilin’ nice fish. Give it to us raw and wrigglin’. You keep nasty chips.
Sam: You’re hopeless.

How about Dom in this week’s Lost, begging for a break from hiking? I know I wasn’t the only one thinking about second breakfasts.

squee: I feel you. I don’t know how I make it through Lost without thinking of Old Toby and the pipeweed more often.
