Cracking good job so far, chap. I’m liking the storyline with Waiterbot and Inky and what they did with day 6′s present. I guess I don’t want to give it away, even though if you’re reading this, you should have read the calendar so far.
Anyone else just catch the charlie brown christmas special on ABC?

Not me. It just ended and I forgot.
The Toys R Us ad has a readable copyright date, and it’s 1976! Whoa!
I think Matt is getting all these ads from the same tape, though, given the fact that they’re all equally washed out in picture. He mentioned a Santa ad came from "the early early 80′s," so I’m guessing they ran that Toys R Us ad until 1980.
And while I’m on the subject of Toys R Us, the latest batch of ads they’ve tried this year are terrible. Geoffrey is gone and instead they have a bunch of hyperactive adults acting like kids because "they know kids." This isn’t gonna save the franchise at all, and I want it to stick around.
Hysterical blog entry. Amazing how many emotions one toy can invoke without any words. I hope I’m not the only one that let out a gasp as if Satan himself was on the screen. And it’s a toy…a Playmobil toy at that.

I caught the Charlie Brown special as I do every year. The one that followed, was only a reminder that the Garfield Christmas special needs to come back.

Mare gets sexier every year… Did I Just type that?
Chestnuts roasted by dohopoki @ 12/07/2005 12:08 PM
Of course it was obvious it was a Mare, but an angel Mare with golden wings? Didn’t see that coming.
Also of course, I watched Charlie Brown. They’ll be showing more or the same thing(?) again on Friday, so I’ll watch then too. Classics on TV are always better than downloaded or vhs/dvd.
Oh and Matt, you open every single box on that calendar way in advance so that you can create the story, right?

You’ve kept a sense of normalcy and Christmas cheer while I’m stranded in Baltimore with no toys and no comics and no girlfriend… thanks Matt.

The Advent Calendar has to be considered a success; if for no other reason, I now, without pause, link the name "Mare" with X-Mas, just as much as I do Richie, Kevin, Gizmo, and Charlie Brown!
Dun dun duuuuun! I was almost rooting for Mare to be on the side of light…almost.
Anybody watch The Office Christmas episode that was on tonight? I got tapped today at work to organize the Secret Santa exchange so it hit very close to home. Very festive episode, anyway.
(I know this is OT, but WRT the banner ad that may or may not be at the top of the blog: I KNEW that Sin City DVD was crap and there had to be a special edition coming…why oh why did I buy two stupid copies? I have a copy of that issue of Sin City already too! Damn you Robert Rodriguez, must you have every penny from my pockets?)

That DOES make sense, considering the Lego Advent Calendar has little instructions (kinda) in the flap of each present. It showed the guy with the saw thing with the wheel thing. And it does have gemmy looking things in the bottom. Its a Lego safe! It has to be.
I mean he is wearing a striped numbered shirt, which is clearly a prisoner type shirt, he has an evil grin, and he has a gold tooth.
HE IS HERE TO DESTROY CHRISTMAS IN LEGO CITY.
Ok, so the Lego calendar this year has squat all to do with Christmas so far, but as something for kids or Lego collecting folks its got year round applications.

Hey Matt,
Excellent Job. I’m gonna go ahead and say this is already my fav advent calendar thus far. The inclusion of the lego makes it that much better. Excellent calendar, excellent Blog post. the pic pretty much sums it up into one big "AAAAAAWWWWWWWWW shiat" moment

Squee: The Office Christmas Special was amazing! The last twenty seconds (Michael’s reaction to the surprise flasher) had me literally fall onto the floor with laughter.
You know, you have to wonder if anyone at the Playmobil has any inkling of the complex, twisted mythology being built up around their calendar. I like to imagine that the person in charge of putting the calendar together is a regular X-E reader, and are working with the sole aim in mind of making Matt’s job easier and more hilarious. And that is why December 13th’s box contains a Mare who is painted red, wearing a cape, and wielding a pitchfork.

Scratch that, I wonder if Mare Winningham has any idea what’s going on here. I mean, it’s not too much of a stretch. She’s got to have a lot of free time these days, and at least a passing fondness for the 80s. So my old mental image of the Playmobil employee has been replaced by one of Mare Winningham reading the Advent Calendar over a heaping bowl of Christmas Crunch, wiping away a tear of laughter at her own plastic antics. "Oh, me."
