Hey all — enjoy!
The Calendars are underway, and the real kickoff starts this weekend. Please ignore any bugs you may encounter between now and then.
If you have no idea what this is all about, other bloggers can enlighten you.

I think I saw an updated version of that same ad growing up in the 90s. It just begs the question: Was Post really into the holiday spirit, or just lazy because they could never come up with another commercial involving Christmas?
This next glass of eggnog is for XE!

Ok, now that I see that older Pebbles advert, I do remember running into it on a tape or something. I must’ve blocked it out of my memory because being Hu-hu-hungry was so much more awesome.
This is going to be the best Christmas ever.
Yess! Hey, from last year, are their names Knacks and Kuse to be a play on "No excuse"? Always wondered about that.

For clarity: a "Dusty Finish" is a pro-wrestling term. It refers to when the referee is knocked out, a second referee comes out and the match finishes. Then, the original offical negates the decision (usually to a DQ, but sometimes just restarts the match) because he was knocked out. This is done in title matches, because titles do not change hands in pro-wrestling on disqualification. It can further an angle between wrestlers without a title actualy changing hands. The term "Dusty" refers to famed booker Dusty Rhodes, who used it extensively. Hope this helps anyone who isn’t fluent in the language of the business.

Sweet! Now I gotta go get one of those Lego Advent calenders! The one we had as kids didn’t include toys and fancy stuff, just pictures of Baby Jesus and the three wise Men.
The advent calender’s up, the stores are selling Christman Crunch. TIs the season.

Oh lord, my mom used to tell me to stand up to teasers with the "sticks and stones" bit, but the version she advised me to use was "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will break my heart"…even at five years old I knew that kind of touchy feely-ness was a one way ticket to ass kicking town.

Two snaps and a twist for Christmas on X-E.

AWESOME! I mentioned that Lego had one last year, and this year, we get TWO calendars! Playmobile AND Lego.
I have the Lego one myself. The urge to open the thing up all at once is strong (specially because NOBODY can stop me!), but I am holding off so far. (Though the side of the box shows all the contents. Being Lego this doesn’t completely tell you anything however.)
The Fireman with twin axes is pretty badass though. Its like my character from the online zombie RPG "Urban Dead" has come to life.
Can’t wait to see what you do with them all this year.

Oh wait, did I say horror? I meant to say Christmas Joy. Horrible Christmas Joy… (But seriously, I love the advent calendar.)
Oh, on another note, I recently obtained the Regional Package of Jones soda. Me and 10 friends taste-tested the thing. I could barely get anything down, but on a dare, one of my friends mixed up all 5 flavors in a paper cup-NEARLY FULL-AND CHUGGED THE ENTIRE THING DOWN.
I just thought I would share that.

I want a giant cat! I’ve always liked those Playmobil kitties. I swear, I would give my collection of Christmas socks to figure out where you get these advent calendars. I looked last year and this year, and I can’t find the damn things. I don’t even know what section of the store to check. I totally want a Lego one. Bloodcat, where did you get yours? I also gotta get me some Christmas Crunch; Jeff Mack, care to share where you found yours in the CNY area? Dammit, I need to stop spending money.
Speaking of my Christmas socks, today’s pair is black with small red stockings, candy canes and silver stars. In case anyone other than kingklash wanted to keep track.

Erik - that’s not true! My brother-in-law is stationed in Germany (though he was only there a month or two before they shipped him to Iraq.) He should be back there by next Christmas and I can’t wait so I can get Kinder chocolate. You know, just to say I did. Well, that’s not the only reason I can’t wait for him to get out of Iraq, but that should go without saying.
I was out of town last weekend and it took me a little while to get caught up. Just one little (anti-climactic and late) comment about this year’s parade - it totally ticks me off that 90% of the people they stick on floats nowadays are people you’ve never heard of. Instead of sticking our beloved sitcom stars on there and making them sing (it just didn’t feel like Thanksgiving without the Lawrence brothers), we get float after float of teenage wannabes that the record companies stick on there to get exposure. Who are these people and why does the whole parade have to stop so we can watch them lip synch to their crappy song that sounds like the last 5 crappy songs we’ve heard on this parade? Arrgh…. Timely, no, but I had to get it off of my chest.
One last note, I adore the advert calendar. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but as a kid (once I was old enough to touch the VCR), my favorite thing to do when I was home sick was to put in my parents old tapes and fast forward to the old commercials. (I say "old", but I was watching late 70’s commercials in the late ’80’s. They were old to me.) I can’t vouch for how long VCRs have been commercially sold, but my parents married in 1977 and bought a VCR shortly thereafter. Anyway, the advert calendar helps make my Christmas season. It’s hard to believe there’s other people out there who like this stuff as much as I do. Thanks for starting it for people like me, Matt.

Damn Fred is basically an addict with that stuff huh-hiding himself in the house so nobody can bother him while he’s doing his thing. That 70’s one was wierd-"careful fred santas watching" (is santa high?? he just laughs) -sounds like domestic violence to me. Whats gunna happen if santa is not there-you fill in the rest with imagination.

Wow. Just wow. MAtt, you’re a fucking God amongst ants!!
I never would have thought we would get 2 calendars. This is going to be insane.
Nevermind the fact I have a soft spot for Legos. I had so many when I was younger. MY friends and I even made a movie with Legos. Well, that, some Construx playsets and this tube racing set. It included GI Joe, the music from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the Movie, Capcoms Ghouls and Ghosts, MC Hammer, and REAL helicopter sounds. Don;t ask me how we fit all that into a movie, but considering the main special effect was stop motioning a Lego man’s head popping off and landing intoa pool of ketchup made to look like blood after being squeezed by robot pincers, anything pretty much went.
Back on topic, this Christmas is going to be better than the year I got Trypticon and Metroplex.
Matt, I hope that when and IF I have kids, your site is still up, I can go out get them the Advent Calendars and share opening them up alongside X-E.

with such favorites as:
-Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo
-Merry Fucking Christmas, sung by Mr. Garrison
-Cartman’s O Holy Night
-Christmastime in hell (my personal favorite)
Larry The Cable Guy has an xmas album out now?! This I gotta get!
"Blue Balls…Blue balls…it’s Christmastime at the Titty Club."
"Donny The Retard, with an 8lb Waterhead. He was 5′3 and he said to me ‘I like Tater Tots! Duh heh!’"
And who can forget:

From the decorations in my apartment to the happy returns of Knacks, Kuse, Santa, Barney, and Fred, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at X-E, everywhere you go. Nothing like Santa, stormtroopers, and cavemen who love cereal to put you in the holiday spirit. My tree went up yesterday.

round two! advent day two
Coincidentally, I wrote a comedy sketch when I was 11 years old about two guys who have a debate about whether Fred or Barney was in the right in these Fruity Pebbles commercials. The Fred defender made a point of mentioning the 80’s Christmas commerical and that Fred shares in them. I think the Barney defender then claimed that the only reason Fred succumbed is because he had Santa Claus breathing down his neck. I still have it somewhere.
Ho ho ho, I’m Sta-Sta-Starving!
I’m so tempted to pop it open and read it now…. but I’m gonna save it and savor it tomorrow with the morning coffee..

Oh man, I get giddy when a new Advent Day pops up. Advent Day, is that a real thing? Sounds like it. I dig the bedpan, by the by. The Adverts are alright, but they’re the appetizer for the main Mare-basted course. I’m waiting for Mare…
I will now try to work the sentence "Oh go to Hell you spoonful of retard" into my daily life.
Thanks, X-E!
I love holiday traditions.

I am really, really confused about the bedpan. That can’t possibly be what it actually is, of course, but what in the hell? Is it a water dish for Giant Black Woe Kitten? Will its purpose become clear later? I MUST KNOW!
And I’m going to be deprived of the Sat. and Sun. updates till I get back to work Monday, as the home computer is still down. Goddammit.

Now I MUST KNOW! Pronto, Geppetto!
RabiesBunny–thanks for the old links. I never read the 2002 calendar!

THe other day I was talking about the short of donald duck having a snow ball fight with his nephews; it was shown before Mickey’s Christmas Carol. Well, its going to be released Tuesday.
On the heels of yesterday’s overpouring of love for the advert calendar (I just felt it needed it. Most people probably prefer the advent), I just wanted to exclaim my delight…
Last night, while watching CSI, they played the classic Folger’s commercial where Peter sneaks in on Christmas morning and makes coffee for his whole family. I practically squealed with delight. I can’t believe they still show it and use it as legitimate advertising (you can see how old it is when it’s nestled between commercials made 20 years later), but I couldn’t be happier.

I was loving it, but–who the hell is the little girl? She doesnt say ‘Uncle Peter’ so is she supposed to be his little sister? Mom looks way too old for that, but maybe she just hasnt put her face on yet…I think I’ve been wondering that for like 20 years.

I too have seen the classic Folger’s commerical. I too immediately thought of X-E, but then wondered if there was anyone here as sick as I was to get all excited over a coffee commercial…granted, it was from our childhood, but coffee? I should have known better.
I don’t care if it’s only 12/2, I feel more Christmassy than ever right now. There’s a nice lake effect snowstorm swirling around outside, my second pair of Christmas socks features a tree and lots of presents, I’ve been listening incessantly at work to the jukebox, and then there’s the new X-E’er holiday tradition: blowing off actually working at work to read previous advent calendars. Ah, I love you guys. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go…

This thing is kickin’ so much ass so far! But the 2nd Advert isn’t up yet, but there’s still time, it’s still the 2nd.
Anyone else watch Rudolph on CBS the other night? I did, and it was just as good and cheesy as it ever was. I was able to notice some stuff I haven’t before, like the wires sticking out of Rudolph’s nose and how the audio for the Foreman Elf didn’t synch up with his mouth.
Also, some suggestions for a new version of the Jukebox:
-Christmas At Ground Zero (Weird Al)
-The Night Santa Went Crazy (Weird Al)
-any of Larry The Cable Guy’s songs
-O Tannenbaum/Christmastime in Hell (from Mr Hankey’s Christmas Classics)
-Mr Hankey The Christmas Poo (same as above)
-the muppets 12 Days of Christmas (you know the one I mean, Ms Piggy doing 5 Gold rings)
-The Snowmiser & Heatmiser songs from A Year Without A Santa Claus

My favorite will always be Rudolph’s Shiny New Year. And speaking of Heatmiser:
"like your favorite Heatmiser song goes, it’s just like being alone"
my favorite song on that album to boot. It’s good to know I can listen to this now without blubbering. Haven’t listened to it since right after graduation.
"don’t it feel like sunshine after all, the world we loved forever gone"
Futures indeed.

Chestnuts roasted by

pdac, this is the very first time that I’m watching Santa Claus is Coming To Town, and I’ll have to say, it’s pretty good.
None of that cynicism and bizarre questions raised by Rudolph. Just about every major question about Santa Claus is basically answered, and how he sneaks into houses at night. And why he goes out on Christmas Eve, which is his wedding anniversery.
That, and the name Burgermeister Meisterburger kicks ass. And there’s a brief cameo by Rudolph, and as Fred Astaire says, that’s another story.
And I’ve finally noticed something about the Rankin-Bass specials: There are at least 2 songs in the show that are exactly the same but with different lyrics.
-Rudolph: Both Rudolph & Hermey sing "I’m not just a misfit" but with different lyrics, then they sing it together
-A Year Without A Santa Claus: The Snowmiser & Heatmiser songs
-Santa Claus is Coming To Town: Both Tanta Kringle & Burgermeister siongs songs about toymakers to the king, just that Tanta sings about the first one, and Burgermeister sings about no more of them
These simple xmas specials seem to have more layers than an onion…

Has anyone heard the Star Wars Christmas Album: Christmas in the Stars? It’s rediculous. It makes me forget how to feel… in all the wrong ways. It’s mostly C-3P0 singing very homosexually about the strangest things. I’ve never heard the word "indigestion" so many times in a christmas song. Somehow I can’t help but make other people listen to it. Look it up! It will scar you, but you’ll like it.

Knegative: That Jimmy Eat World lyric isn’t related to the Heatmiser from the Christmas special, but is actually referring to a song by late pop singer Elliott Smith’s band (also called Heatmiser). The song is called Untitled (Not Half Right) and the line is: "When I talk to you on the phone/well, it’s just like being alone." Sorry, I’m an Elliott Smith fanatic, so I had to step in there.
I’m torn by that commercial. I don’t know what I love more: the commercial itself, or the fact that you can totally see the hand moving that fake dog arm.
