Although not as classic as "peter’s folgers" I have seen the snowman melting into boy Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup commercial a few times this year. That’s another good one.

Another classic they’ve brought back from about 20 years ago is an old Orville Redenbacher commercial. Wow, does he look old in that one. It’s great hearing Orville sticking it to the inferior popcorn once again.

"(you can see how old it is when it’s nestled between commercials made 20 years later)"

Yeah, but then you can really see it’s so much better. Commercials today, not as good as they used to be, especially McDonalds. But yeah, it’s great they brought it back, and that Orville Redenbacher ad is great, too.

I too have seen the classic Folger’s commerical. I too immediately thought of X-E, but then wondered if there was anyone here as sick as I was to get all excited over a coffee commercial…granted, it was from our childhood, but coffee? I should have known better. :D

I don’t care if it’s only 12/2, I feel more Christmassy than ever right now. There’s a nice lake effect snowstorm swirling around outside, my second pair of Christmas socks features a tree and lots of presents, I’ve been listening incessantly at work to the jukebox, and then there’s the new X-E’er holiday tradition: blowing off actually working at work to read previous advent calendars. Ah, I love you guys. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go…

I saw my beloved Eat N Park commercial the other day. and i just froze my ass off at lunch today, so as far as i’m concerned, it’s beginning to look a lot like christmas!

They’ve been playing the BC Clark ad here since Thanks-Gibbon, and just started the ads where they show clips of average consumers singing the jingle. And I heard "Santa Claus and his Old Lady" yesterday, so with the Vent/Vert going on, it’s officially Christm-, I mean Holiday Season!

This thing is kickin’ so much ass so far! But the 2nd Advert isn’t up yet, but there’s still time, it’s still the 2nd.

Anyone else watch Rudolph on CBS the other night? I did, and it was just as good and cheesy as it ever was. I was able to notice some stuff I haven’t before, like the wires sticking out of Rudolph’s nose and how the audio for the Foreman Elf didn’t synch up with his mouth.

Also, some suggestions for a new version of the Jukebox:

-Christmas At Ground Zero (Weird Al)
-The Night Santa Went Crazy (Weird Al)
-any of Larry The Cable Guy’s songs
-O Tannenbaum/Christmastime in Hell (from Mr Hankey’s Christmas Classics)
-Mr Hankey The Christmas Poo (same as above)
-the muppets 12 Days of Christmas (you know the one I mean, Ms Piggy doing 5 Gold rings)
-The Snowmiser & Heatmiser songs from A Year Without A Santa Claus

I believe the Bedpan of Mystery is some sort of Technosled. Time Displaced Halloween Death Cat will obviously use it to try and knock Santa from his sleigh this year.

It’s cold enough out there to freeze a winnebago.

Yay, it’s back! I actually laughed out loud at the Dusty Rhodes reference.

Chestnuts roasted by Skroob @ 12/02/2005 7:07 PM

LEGO Star Wars guys using "Dusty Finish" in context was the funniest thing I’ve heard all week. I needed that. :)

Not looking like xmas yet up here in Boston, though the forecast next week is for 24 hours of snow between Monday and Tuesday. Now THAT would be a fine time to sit at home and curl up with some old holiday X-E articles.

My favorite will always be Rudolph’s Shiny New Year. And speaking of Heatmiser:

"like your favorite Heatmiser song goes, it’s just like being alone"

my favorite song on that album to boot. It’s good to know I can listen to this now without blubbering. Haven’t listened to it since right after graduation.

"don’t it feel like sunshine after all, the world we loved forever gone"

Futures indeed. :)

Chestnuts roasted by Knegative @ 12/02/2005 8:18 PM

pdac, this is the very first time that I’m watching Santa Claus is Coming To Town, and I’ll have to say, it’s pretty good.

None of that cynicism and bizarre questions raised by Rudolph. Just about every major question about Santa Claus is basically answered, and how he sneaks into houses at night. And why he goes out on Christmas Eve, which is his wedding anniversery.

That, and the name Burgermeister Meisterburger kicks ass. And there’s a brief cameo by Rudolph, and as Fred Astaire says, that’s another story.

And I’ve finally noticed something about the Rankin-Bass specials: There are at least 2 songs in the show that are exactly the same but with different lyrics.

-Rudolph: Both Rudolph & Hermey sing "I’m not just a misfit" but with different lyrics, then they sing it together
-A Year Without A Santa Claus: The Snowmiser & Heatmiser songs
-Santa Claus is Coming To Town: Both Tanta Kringle & Burgermeister siongs songs about toymakers to the king, just that Tanta sings about the first one, and Burgermeister sings about no more of them

These simple xmas specials seem to have more layers than an onion…

I just watched that Milkbone commercial earlier! My husband feels bad for the dog who had to sit there while some guy manuvered fake paws to shake the box.

Merry Christmas, pal.

Hey Wukong Effect, I was in hysterics looking at donkey lips’ page. So funny. How’d you find it?

Has anyone heard the Star Wars Christmas Album: Christmas in the Stars? It’s rediculous. It makes me forget how to feel… in all the wrong ways. It’s mostly C-3P0 singing very homosexually about the strangest things. I’ve never heard the word "indigestion" so many times in a christmas song. Somehow I can’t help but make other people listen to it. Look it up! It will scar you, but you’ll like it.

Chestnuts roasted by Mattman @ 12/02/2005 11:03 PM

Knegative: That Jimmy Eat World lyric isn’t related to the Heatmiser from the Christmas special, but is actually referring to a song by late pop singer Elliott Smith’s band (also called Heatmiser). The song is called Untitled (Not Half Right) and the line is: "When I talk to you on the phone/well, it’s just like being alone." Sorry, I’m an Elliott Smith fanatic, so I had to step in there.

I’m torn by that commercial. I don’t know what I love more: the commercial itself, or the fact that you can totally see the hand moving that fake dog arm.

Invader Norbert: Glad you got the Jones Soda and hope you enjoy it, although enjoy might not be the right word! Also, don’t worry about the shipping cost. You didn’t make me do that; I wanted to get it to you as soon as possible (especially since I didn’t get to you by Thanksgiving like I originally promised).

I ABOSULTLY LOVED the Star Wars Christmas album when I was a kid!!! My family would always play Christmas albums the entire time when putting up the decorations, and I would demand we played it (much to the dismay of my sister who hated it).

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

Stayed into with the lady. So, I decorated my desktop. http://www.flickr.com/photos/icupg/69575726/. I have snow falling and lights glowing around the boarder. It is slowing down the computer though. peace.

Jesus- Happiness overload! Advent is great thus far- Knacks and Kuse are back in my life once more. Oh, happy days!- I can’t tell you how much I loved Knacks and Kuse while I was over in Korea.

I was the only 24 year old woman in the PC room (Ok- The ONLY girl in that all male gaming environment). While they paid tons of $$$ to play games all night long, I giggled happily to the jukebox and the calendar, and as long as I looked at the XE screen, I was connected to home. Thanks, Matt!

Now, thanks to you wonderful people of the XE blog, my Xmas spirit is HERE. I caught the bug on the blog. (as usual!)Thanks, everyone, for making this blog a great one to hang out on! :)

Can’t say I recall the SW xmas album. Although I DO recall renting (borrowing?) the SW vinyls for ANH and ESB from the Oyster Bay/East Norwich public library when I was a wee lad to listen to the movies that were produced earlier than I could have understood them.

And if we’re on xmas specials, "Jack Frost" has to land himself up there with the rest of the 70′s/80′s claymation specials, no?

Chestnuts roasted by Great Gatz @ 12/03/2005 3:52 AM

Wow, guess that lands me in the odd between-land of the Friday night and the all-saturday thread, doesn’t it?

Btw, Matt, I took a trip to the City when I was home for the Thanxgiving break, and it’s changed muchly since I worked there. As such, it’s good to see your pics of NYC as you post them, even if it is to see Spiderman hulking in his element. Ghostbusters smoke pipes and all, I miss that place. Thanks!
