11/26/2005: The Peeps Christmas Tree Decorating Kit!

I felt dumb for skipping out on Black Friday as I’m probably in the minority who enjoys the insanity, so tonight, we went out for a bit of Black Saturday, which is kind of like Black Friday, only with half of the big sales and half of the long lines. Still were plenty of people out there, though. Toys ‘R’ Us wasn’t anywhere near as packed as I had expected it to be, but the customers who were there had evidently been brought to insanity by the weekend of toy hunting. It wasn’t so much the yelling — that was expected. Moreover, people would pick stuff up, look at it, realize they didn’t want it and literally throw it to the ground. The place was already a mess, so I guess everyone was past the point of giving a fuck.

Best Buy was much busier. I needed to get a new digital camera, but fortunately for me, I have no concept of money or bargains or rights or wrongs when it comes to such things, and because the purchase counter for digital cameras was wholly separate from the lines people needed to get on to buy anything else, I managed to walk in and out of there with a new camera in less than ten minutes. The “normal” line looped around itself a few times like a steaming pile of gorilla shit, and it was amazing to see just how many folks were willing to put up with the wait just to buy a DVD or two.

Finally, the woman persuaded me to take her to the arts and crafts store, which as some of you will recall from an earlier entry is a point of some contention between the two of us. There was a 50,000 dollar set of pencils she wanted, and she had a 50% off coupon that was only good for today, so it was a case of either dealing with it or hearing about the loss of this golden opportunity until 2008. On the upside, the entire store smelled like a giant cinnamon candle.

Thanksgiving’s over, Black Friday’s over, and across the street, I see suspicious lights on my neighbor’s bushes. Christmas is in the air, and we’re all smitten with Santa again. I’m in the process of moving, so my material enjoyment this year must come by way of more perishable items; thankfully, there are plenty of those to go around. Up above is the Marshmallow Peeps Christmas Tree Decorating Kit, a merrier spin on the Halloween version I reviewed during the Countdown in October. Instead of orange pumpkin Peeps, this time you get green Christmas trees, along with a tube of red icing that lets you go all ho ho and stuff. Click here to see the kit packaged, and tell me you wouldn’t part with two bucks for something this belligerently Yuletide.

It’s Saturday night. Who’s with me?

Just tried the Jones sodas

Hiyo! Yeah, me and my buddies at school did a Jones Soda test test back in November. Brussels Sprout soda is liquid evil.

Matt, sounds like an awesome time. I wish I could hit a little holiday shopping. I enjoy the madness.

I associate Thanksgiving weekend with 4 days off of school or work (if you’re lucky) and lots of crazy shoppers – my weekend is being ruined this year by a 30 page paper on national security – and I’ve barely made a dent in the thing. Yuck!

Ghosted by Mr. Boligarky @ 11/26/2005 9:53 PM EST

It’s still November isn’t it?
Yeah, I know that I am late but I didn’t want to pay for them and when a buddy of mine did, I had to be a part of the festivities. I didn’t think that they were that bad. At least they kinda tasted like what they were supposed to. I think Turkey was the weak link as far as what it is what supposed to taste like.

I’m with you matt.

Neo reporting for duty Captain.

FYI: The TRU sector of Amazon features this weekend’s entire circular. You can click on products from the circular for their associated Amazon link. Most still have the sales intact, though a lot of the good stuff is sold out.

Ghosted by Matt @ 11/26/2005 9:57 PM EST

I haven’t even started my Christmas shopping yet. My wife has bought all her gifts for her family on-line and she’s practically done. I guess I should get moving, huh?

On a funnier note, did you hear about all of those X-Box 360’s having defects and such? Makes me glad I’m a Playstation fan. Must suck for those who just had to spend $400 to get it on it’s first day. Wait a year. It’ll drop down in price and there will be a much better game selection than the pitable few they have now.

Ghosted by Bob @ 11/26/2005 9:59 PM EST

Bob: What’s even worse is that many of the people who bought them are saving them for their kids’ Christmas mornings. So if they’re faulty, there goes Christmas morning. :)

Ghosted by Matt @ 11/26/2005 10:02 PM EST

Alas, my computer bit the dust this week and now won’t even boot properly, and my brother has allotted me only five minutes of time on his computer before he breaks my fingers. I’m in serious X-E withdrawal, here. Been shopping twice this weekend with the boyfriend, mostly for My Little Pony stuff. Hehheh. I’ll have to catch up with everything here on Monday, when I get back to work…because what the hell else am I going to do all day?

Hi all, hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and I’ll miss this SNT. *sniff*

Ghosted by Nicole @ 11/26/2005 10:04 PM EST

Matt: That’s true. I didn’t even think of that. What an awful Christmas it will be for those kids if they get defective 360’s. I hope they don’t get scarred for life.

Ghosted by Bob @ 11/26/2005 10:05 PM EST

I got those Peeps a few weeks ago, but mine came with white frosting. I’ve gotta say – I don’t much like the Peeps & Frosting combo. It’s just sort of gross.
I did some Black Saturday shopping today, but I just bought stuff for myself. Got a new 300 GB hard drive (upgrading from my current 30 GB drive). I was only gonna get like a 100 GB drive, but I couldn’t pass up a deal.

Ghosted by Gozer @ 11/26/2005 10:08 PM EST

On a funnier note, did you hear about all of those X-Box 360’s having defects and such? Makes me glad I’m a Playstation fan

Playstation 2s aren’t exactly built to last. Great system when it works though.

Ghosted by dohopoki @ 11/26/2005 10:22 PM EST

Yes, the frosting + Peeps combo seems suspicious, not delicious.

Ghosted by Jessica Marie @ 11/26/2005 10:25 PM EST

Actually its not really a "defect" in the 360 its that the power adapter is HUGE and needs to stay off the carpet due to the heat it sends out. It has a saftey switch that shuts down the system when it gets too warm. So keep off carpet=keep on playing :) I heard there are already "coolers" for the adapter.

SNT! Wooo!!

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is on now! It’s freaky & awesome as always.

I said this late in the last thread, so I’ll repeat it now:

UPDATE!!! My Jones Soda Regional Pack came in the mail today! Thank you so very much, Jeff, but I feel kinda guilty that I made you pay so much to ship the damn thing…

cool peeps…i just wish we had them here…snifff

Ghosted by melonian @ 11/26/2005 10:47 PM EST

For anyone who has Direct Tv, this will probably be the last weekend you’ll be able to catch Queens of the Stone Age in concert on the FREE channel. That is unless you don’t have their new DVD/CD which I won’t till Christmas.

Just a reminder to anyone else whom cares and have nothing to watch. You may now go back to your regularly scheduled Christmast Holiday season cheer.

Hey, Kids —

Spent a lovely Turkey Day with my fella and a couple we fondly refer to as "The Lesbians." (It’s okay. They are.) Damn fine food, and a game of Monopoly that made my eye start twitching. Nothing like "fake bankruptcy" when one just met with a Trustee on Monday. Egads.

We avoided most stores this weekend — but a stop into a Westlake/Ace Hardware that shares a parking lot with The Hobby Lobby was rather harrowing. The Hobby Lobby lot was absolutely packed, and the hardware store’s lot had tumbleweeds blowing through it. Very odd.

Glad to see y’all out this Saturday night. What’s on teevee tonight? So far, looks like nothing. I suppose that means we’ll be watching the Gayest Horror Movie Ever — NoESII. Frick yeah!

Carry on.

Watch out for exploding parrots, Lisa.

Here for Saturday night…

Went to Best But today to look at digital cameras…the place was PACKED. I would hate to see what it looked like on Friday. Looks like people are really out and spending money this year, which is good for retailers. Luckily, I didn’t need to buy anything, so I didn’t have to wait in line, but damn….

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 11/26/2005 11:17 PM EST

I worked again, but I did have the time to pick up a present for a friend in a small card shop next to the grocery store. It was busy but not crazy when I was there, and the item turned out to be on a small discount. The grocery store was a ghost town, particuarly later.

I’ve seen the Peeps trees around; may have to try them since, like Matt, I’m moving shortly after the holidays and won’t be adding much to the decorations themselves this year. I’ve found the Gingerbread Peeps twice already, at Shop Rite and K-Mart (they were cheaper at the latter).

Ghosted by starwenn @ 11/26/2005 11:19 PM EST

I was at Best Buy today… I probably saw you Matt and didn’t even realize it. The woman needed to go to the pick up counter to get some of the crap she bought online. The girl behind said counter looked like she just found out her odd bump sticking out of her leg was actually her twin sister hilda. TRU was pretty lame when I got there later on in the night (@ 8:30) Target over by Melon Park Mall had a boat load of Jones Soda packs… I had to grab 1. Now to see if I can actually drink em. A lot less madness that I thought would be today that’s for sure.

Ghosted by Double G @ 11/26/2005 11:30 PM EST

Couldn’t do the black Friday thing, just too tempting to run over old women in curlers with your shopping cart while they fight over the last "mini food chopper" or "fondue pot", so the Mr. and I shopped for the lil’ ones presents today. 538 dollars worth, God, we must love this little shit. Anyway, onward with the SNT and good evening to you all.

Ghosted by bloodybrilliantme @ 11/26/2005 11:47 PM EST

I’m hear, but freaking tired as hell after working an 8 hour shift with no breaks. God I fucking hate Namco. I hate not having a regular job. Today I had a real first – a rejection letter for a job I didn’t even get as far as an interview for. Man I miss being able to spend my Saturdays getting drunk at the club.

Matt, you work for Nick. Go find that old Hurry Up Machine they had on Out of Control and hurry up my work days for me.

Ghosted by Mystie @ 11/27/2005 12:02 PM EST

Matt, what digital camera did you get? Did you get one of those $129 Kodak ones? (I think it may have been a black friday only special) I wanted one of those so bad!

Ghosted by Destro @ 11/27/2005 12:58 PM EST

I had not one but TWO Thanksgivings this year! The first one of course was on Thanksgiving Day and the second one was Saturday with my girlfriend’s family. I’ve never eaten so much food in such a short time period before. Good Good stuff. On the brighter note, I have managerial accounting to study for as well as a report for Operations Management to write! Joy oh Joy!

Ghosted by Mike the Great @ 11/27/2005 1:06 AM EST

I can only hope you’re exaggerating when you say those pencils were $50,000.

If not, then Matty’s gotten filthy rich and should share it with all of us.

Mystie works for Namco? They’re in Japan.

Ghosted by Mars @ 11/27/2005 1:22 AM EST

I too need to purchase a digital camera. But I wasn’t daring enough to hit up the stores on friday or today. Maybe tomorrow. I feel like spending money. I wonder If I have any money. . .In other news, late pass needed, I saw the aviator tonight, it was for free "on demand." It was good, it was a bit long.

ps my girlfriend’s cats are making wierd noises in the dark.

Ghosted by Geoffinsanity @ 11/27/2005 1:24 AM EST

Probably Namco Hometek, Inc. based in California.

oh, I have a question. Does anyone remember dinsey’s christmas equivalent to disney’s halloween treat. The one I’m thinking of had clips from when chip and dale were in mickey’s christmas tree and pluto tore it apart trying to get them. And another clip featured donald having a snowball war with huey, duey and luey.

Ghosted by Geoffinsanity @ 11/27/2005 2:04 AM EST

One of my favorite Disney toons ever and one that will be covered, oddly enough, during the Advert Calendar. It’s on a cheap DVD along with Mickey’s Christmas Carol, which I love equally.

But the toon you’re referring to: The scenes of Chip and Dale being all impressed with Tree Life affected me to the point where I’d literally crawl under our Christmas trees as a kid and just stare upward.

Ghosted by Matt @ 11/27/2005 2:10 AM EST

Geoffinsanity: I know exactly what you are talking about. I have it on VHS. Can’t remember the name off the top of my head…will look for it later. I looked on Amazon, but I don’t think it’s on DVD.

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 11/27/2005 2:11 AM EST

"Moreover, people would pick stuff up, look at it, realize they didn’t want it and literally throw it to the ground. The place was already a mess, so I guess everyone was past the point of giving a fuck."

That’s what I love to hear. Knowing that every TRU must have a make up of at least 90% slovenly, asshole customers, and not just the one I work at.

Ghosted by Ryane @ 11/27/2005 3:36 AM EST

All of you with the Disney tape: you’re thinking of "A Very Disney Christmas".
Thank you Matt for covering Disney stuff finally. I’m still waiting for a Disney Afternoon related article.

Ghosted by GadgetMouse @ 11/27/2005 3:50 AM EST

Pardon my previous comment. The name of the tape is "A Walt Disney Christmas".

Ghosted by GadgetMouse @ 11/27/2005 4:45 AM EST

i know this late but on thanksgiving day i saw feature on Jones soda on CNN and on the pregame for the CAVS/PACERS game the one white dude presented Charles Barkley with a stick Jones turkey lip balm. It warmed my soul…

Ghosted by phunqsauce @ 11/27/2005 5:00 AM EST

Man, I love those two Disney Christmas specials!

Ghosted by mtrox @ 11/27/2005 8:14 AM EST

Everytime I am on the SNT, it is a slow night. Manimal=jinx to SNT.

Looking forward to the MICKEY’S CHRISTMAS CAROL review. Those hellish flames for Ebenezer Duck have always been a favorite.

Ghosted by The Manimal @ 11/27/2005 8:28 AM EST

I can say the same thing about my self Manimal. I missed the first SNT and started a curse.

Ghosted by dohopoki @ 11/27/2005 8:35 AM EST

btw is everyone else loving the mountain dew mdx commercial? lionel richie never looked better being lipsynched by night vision nocturnal animals :)

Ghosted by phunqsauce @ 11/27/2005 9:12 AM EST

Well there you have it dohopoki. I too missed the original SNT. That explains why we are dead weight martyrs on a Saturday night. Rolling boulders up hills, having ravenous birds eat our intestines daily, and so forth. :)

Ghosted by The Manimal @ 11/27/2005 9:24 AM EST

I’ve been hunting all weekend for a Coke 2 liter with santa on it. So far, all I’ve found were those stupid Polar Bears. Has anyone found a Santa coke bottle yet??

On the upside, I got me some Christmas Crunch last night.

Ghosted by SuperRecoome @ 11/27/2005 9:45 AM EST

nothing cheers up the ravenous bird eating your intestines blues like creasant dogs for breakfast! (sorry couldn’t get a good pic before eating them.)

Ghosted by dohopoki @ 11/27/2005 10:18 AM EST

ohhh yeah…i love that chip & dale one….it’s called "Pluto’s Christmas Tree" (you can download it on lime wire)…but they did use part of it for the intro to Mickey’s christmas Carol along with the Donald Duck "Snowball War" one….Matt. you hit it right on the head…when they cut to Chip & Dale strolling down that branch for the first time…damn, I get goosebumps..the opitome of christmas feelings for me….I am still pissed my new wife won’t let us use those bigger colored bulbs…we have to use the mini white ones…grrrrrrr…when I was a wee lad, I would sit and stare into those colored ones for hours

Ghosted by gerv @ 11/27/2005 10:42 AM EST

No santa Coke bottles yet — I think they’ve ditched them this year. Which is just bogus.

FYI, I think it’s Dec. 20th, McDs is starting their Christmas toys for the year; Narnia! Whoo. That’s gonna be cool.

You know, I never really saw anything Disney special back in the day. I’m all about the Mupper Family Christmas.

Ghosted by RabiesBunny @ 11/27/2005 10:44 AM EST

Hey Matt… Or heck anyone out there… I’m wanting to have a good ol’ Christmas movie weekend this coming weekend. What movies/specials are MUST shows? I’ve got an idea but I wanted your thoughts first. Thanks!

Ghosted by bdsghost @ 11/27/2005 11:07 AM EST

Cameron T. and Geoffinsanity They do have it on DVD, its called Classic Holiday Stories: Volume 9 It’s got The Small One, Pluto’s Christmas Tree, and Mickey’s Christmas Carol on it and it goes for about 9 bucks, like Matt said.. cheap. :)

RabiesBunny
Supposedly there’s going to be an all new Muppet Family Christmas Special this year. Can’t wait for it!

Ghosted by Double G @ 11/27/2005 11:16 AM EST

There’s a new CGI Christmas cartoon on NBC this Friday called "The Happy Elf." I’ll watch it.

I also remember the Disney and Muppet Christmas specials. Bluto scared the crap out of me in Christmas Carol.

Has anyone seen those inflatable snowglobes with Charlie Brown and Snoopy? They’re expensive but COOL.

I worked on my first Black Friday, and I got to admit, I enjoyed it. It beats standing around doing nothing.
