11/10/2005: The Nerds Christmas Fun Book.

Well, I knew going into work today that it was going to be a long, bad day, and indeed, it was a long, bad day. We all have ‘em, but you’ll have to pardon me when I say that my bad days mean more to me than your bad days. This was the kind of day that had me aging a year by the hour and, by 5 PM, looking into a mirror to see not myself, but a tired creature more closely resembling Amy Monkey of Congo fame. The kind of day that required a solid thirty minutes of chewing dead skin off my fingers when it finally ended if only to curb what was a decidedly larger appetite for destruction. And the worst part? Throughout the day, all of the various stresses and things-going-wrong slowly manifested into a solid vision of a half-done bottle of tequila on top of our fridge. I was banking on this tequila. My one shot, literally, of coming home and simmering down without any explosions. There was no such tequila when I got home. The woman says that there was never any tequila there to speak of. My migraniousuper stress made up this wonderful used bottle of tequila as a coping device. It worked, I guess, but I really wanted that damn shot tonight. At least I had Nerds.

God, I love Christmas. It’s even better than made-up tequila bottles. This here thingy is a Nerds “Fun Book,” which expands on the idea of selling multipacks of Life-Savers in book-themed holiday boxes with better candy, better graphics and better French hens. There are 200 things I like about the Nerds Christmas Fun Book, but to meet my personal quota for brevity bonus points, I’ll limit myself to telling you only six of them…

1) The book/box/whatever is absolutely covered in Nerds creatures acting the parts of Santa Claus and his reindeer.

2) The various Nerds creatures are incredibly easy and fun to draw. I never would’ve came to this realization without the Christmas Fun Book.

3) The thing comes with four full-sized packs of Nerds. Two of ‘em are just normal, unChristmassy Strawberry/Grape boxes, but the other two are fabulous “Frosty Nerds,” with Cherry & Punch and Watermelon & Punch divided into perfectly matched armies of red/white eat-pebbles and green/white eat-pebbles. This is worth nothing because I like candy armies.

4) It actually costs less than four packs of Nerds sold separately. What’s more, they don’t even promote this fact with some stupid star-shaped burst on the front cover.

6) There’s like, three bazillion games and brainteasers printed on the inside of the book/box/whatever. Everything from mazes to word scramblers to some other thing where you attempt to make as many words as possible from the letters in the word “decoration.”

Curiously, there’s a half bottle up on the "booze shelf" that I really can’t really account for. But then, who can ever really account for tequila?

Ahh, I love Nerds. I can think of no better way to pass the time while my students are taking a test than by playing the "Nerds Rope" game on the Wonka website.

Maybe it’s just the weariness of writing 35 pages of college papers in 48 hours, but that picture of the singing ghost is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in my entire life.

The singing ghost had a similar effect on me, except I was reviewing badly written manuscripts for subsidy publishing.

I had just woke up after a really nice sleep. The ghost had little effect on me.

I LOVE Nerds. I had one of those Thursdays too, and had neither tequila nor nerds for comfort.

If anyone watched the Weather channel at about 12:05 EST tonight, you saw Lewis Black forecasting the weather. Awesome.

You should draw the festive nerd creatures hanging out with the ghost! Kind of an East meets West thing.

oh! That’s just great a Candy sight! I’ve been waiting for a chance like this share my "Willy Wonka" shine. Under a rough drill I once heard that Wonka’s Factory done got laid off! Dr. Suess got madder than hops at Alice and every time they tried to make that jester eat treats.. the Cheshire toy-car went beep-beep. It was a fun fun movie on a rainy day when i gave that Willy his first tasty-taste.

You know, it’s been far too long since I had Nerds. I wonder if they still sell the jumbo-sized box of ‘em at the movies. Nothing like the glorious sensation of sucking on a mouthful of sugar-rocks while watching Jurassic Park.
Ah, well. There’s always the nerds rope. Crime against nature though it may be.

Nerds is (are?) one of those things that i never properly appreciated when i was a kid and they were constantly around the house. now that i’m an adult and would feel just a little silly buying them for myself, i miss those little bastards

Hooray for the return of Ghost with the Most! Oh, I saw this today, and immediately thought of you Matt…don’t know if you’ve seen it, but you can buy your very own sad Charlie Brown Christmas tree! I am so getting one.

Aw Matt, sorry to hear you had a bad day. And more sorry to hear you didn’t have any tequila to cheer up with. But you know, Nerds make everything better. Especially holiday Nerds. God I love Nerds. I must find this Fun Book you speak of.

I always used to hate that Christmas crap started showing up pretty much before Halloween, but X-E has shown me the light. Matt has proven to me that starting the Christmas fun early kicks ass. Thanks again, Matt.

The "Decoration" word game thing on the Nerds box is horribly addicting! It’s delightful with other juicy words, too. This is THE best way to make time fly at a restaurant waiting for food. Employee meetings, etc.

Bad days at work and life suck, but this is why we have large, cheap packages of candy. And pouches of chewy fruit-flavored things.

Does anyone remember when Dairy Queen had Nerd’s Blizzards? They were beyond the sweetest, stickiest thing in the world.
Happy Friday to All! I love Friday’s when I don’t have to work on the weekend. I get to go to Madison (again) today. For all of you who don’t really care, it’s the last Badger game of the year, and I don’t like football, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to drink with the red face painted cheese heads.

Nerds are my favorite non-chocolate candy of all-time, and seeing them in cute little Christmas outfits just makes life worth living.

And yes, mtrox — Miss Piggy is THE definitive source for Christmas lyrics. The only Christmas albums I own currently are Nutcracker Suite and A Muppets Christmas featuring John Denver.

Quick update — I snagged a few of the Scary Harry endcap signs from Target a few weeks back. Well, I didn’t. My Boy-o grabbed them for me. Scary Harry is now mine to own, though I really wish I had a plushy of him. At night, I dream there is such a thing.

Also, Erik (et al), Mountain Dew PBII is currently on sale, 10 20oz. bottles for $1.00 at my grocer. I’m not rubbing it in. Just saying I don’t think you missed out on much. [end halloween clearance discussion]

Pepsi is not bringing that back this year. I am bummed cause I never tried it. Maybe I’ll just sprinkle some cinnamon in the regular stuff.

Cinnamon won’t really capture the essence of Holiday Spice. Here’s the actual, official secret recipe, recovered from the Pepsico Headquarters at no small personal risk:

1. 10 oz. original Pepsi
2. 16 lbs. ginger, assorted weeds
3. 20 oz. Pine-Sol
4. Evil

Mix well. DO NOT allow Pepsi Spice to come into contact with metal, animals, children, or your tender, tender gullet. Serves the Prince of Darkness.

Pepsi Holiday Spice isn’t coming back? Are you sure? Do you have official proof? Please say it ain’t so!

I loved that stuff. I lived on that stuff last year. *pitches hissy fit* I want my Holiday Spice! I was able to find a source for discounted bottles after Christmas, so I milked that cow for all it was worth last year.

If I can never have Holiday Spice again, I shall surely perish. Well, *safely* have it. I ain’t so desperate I’d crack open any left over from last year.

I have to official proof that spicy-pepsi is gone. However, they’re web page mentions 23,934, 333 versions of Pepsi currently available and none are of the Holiday Spice variety.

Yeah, the Pepsi website makes me want to break things. You can’t even contact a real person in order to ask my burning question. I think it really is gone for good. *cries*

However, in other news I know my fellow X-E’ers will appreciate (and forgive me if this has been discussed before; I haven’t been around for 8 months)…I was just in my friendly neighborhood Rite Aid, and what should appear next to the checkout counter but: Wacky Packages, All-New Series 2! Hooray! I had to buy a pack.

It has a magnet of Hawaiian Punks (sweet! fridge decoration!) and 5 stickers. One of which happens to be very timely: Creeps, featuring scary little yellow chickens whom I doubt taste very marshmallow-y.

Maybe they’re retiring Pepsi Spice to bring back Crystal Pepsi. One can hope, right?

When I think of the horrors of Pepsi discontinuing great stuff like Crystal Pepsi or (to a much, much, lesser extent) Holiday Spice, I just try to think about what it would be like if they discontinued Mountain Dew. That would be one of the last signs of the apocolypse. When everything else goes wrong, at least we’ve still got the king of sodas.

Like I’ve been saying, I work in a KB Toys store…that specific version of The 12 Days of Christmas is on the mix CD for this month…twice. Not that the CD loops (and it does), but that song actually appears twice, and about 4 songs between each other too, I might add. Besides THAT version, the versions with Sesame Street, Alvin & The Chipmunks, Disney Characters, and *shudder* Care Bears appear on that same damn cd. There’s like 4 different Care Bear Songs, 4 Sesame Street songs, and about 6 by Alvin & The Chipmunks.

I wish it was last month again when we had Halloween music, like Somebody’s Watching me, Ghostbusters, Monster Mash, and This Is Halloween, albeit vague Kidz Bop versions.

Amd I think Matt has been keeping the spirit of Ghost With The Most alive by keeping Boo with the posts, even if we’re "roasting chestnuts" instead of "ghosting."

RIP3: Arrested Development. Although I missed the latest season, it was a quality show.

OMG Jlarc watch it with the spoilers! Let’s be nice to those who haven’t seen yet…(but since you mentioned it, I’ll just say I was jumping on the couch and hooting with glee at that death).
Actually, Arrested Dev returns 12/5 to finish up it’s shortened AND APPARENTLY FINAL season. There aren’t enough internet *sobs* to convey my emotion right now.

One time I had an army of mintos. When I was sleeping they jammed them selves into all of my orifices. I awoke to a hellish but pleasantly fresh pain. Ever since then I have only created armys of clone trooper action figures. I’m still careful with them though. Those white bastards. Waiting for me to slip up once and then bam! Plastic up the bum!

Sorry Squee. I forgot that some people only watch this show on DVD or reruns. Although lets be honest, is there any reason to be watching anything besides Lost at that hour?

Matt, was wondering if you’ve spotted these Peanuts Hot Chocolate Mug gift sets. I got one today and it’s definatly making my room more christmasey, should be a welcome addition to any household.

finally the weekend is here and i don’t have to get up at 5:15 AM to get ready for work…it was a most unusual week for me. I normally work afternoons but i had to fill in some mad hours. On top of that i only got 6 hours total sleep this week. That doesn’t bode well with a noctural person as myself but it was worth it i guess because i made lotsa tips from the yuppie fucks around here. bling bling or something…

HORRAY FOR THE GHOST WITH THE MOST!!!! You should consider using him in some sort of demented Christmas Carol story-that would kick.

Tonight, I’m recreating Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving dinner for my friends. Hope I can find some Jiffy Pop - my mom never let me slice the foil open with a knife, but I always wanted to.
My friends will also be subjected to Bugs Bunny’s Thanksgiving Diet and The Berenstain Bears Meet Big Paw along with the traditional Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.
I’m geeked.

I have the murkish urge to hit a Pilgrim over the head with a gravy-covered turkey drumstick, then invite them in for pumpkin pie.

I love Nerds!! And it’s true: they are really easy to draw. Almost ten years ago, I used to draw them on a whiteboard for making fun for me and my cousin (at that time he had 7 years old). We were crazy for nerds, I was at school and after lunch we ate and draw them

I’m a fan of calming down with a Caesar after work, but I’ve never made one up. Yet…

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out a very obscure (at least to me) late 70s early 80s movie called "Bless the Beasts and Children" it is amazing. It might even make a good update once the ’silly season’(see lethal weapon) is over. Merry X-mas
