My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

Zathura killed X-E.

It's October, and yes, I missed Friday's entry. Was going to try to whip up one quick this morning, but I had whipping up ones quick. Whipping up ones quick sucks. Consider yesterday's non-entry a loan that I will make up for with an extra entry later. I gotta get to work on next week's shite.

Why'd I skip? Had to go to a screening for Zathura for a couple of work-related projects. I don't think I'm allowed to "review" the movie for like a month or something, but I will say that Sony impressed me by turning what would normally only be a dry screening event into a pizza party.

This is your surveyless Saturday thread -- surveyless because the previous thread seems to still be kickin' ass old school.

Scott’s choice of the ALF Animated Series totally brought back memories. It wasn’t my favorite Sat. morning show (my loves were PeeWee’s Playhouse, the Ernest T. Worrell show, Garfield and Friends, Captain N, with the occasional MC Hammer/New Kids on the Block cartoon thrown in), but I totally remember ALF starring as "Gordon Schumway" (sp?) I still can sing the theme song by heart- "Gordon, send us into outer space, ’cause there ain’t no one like you in the Melmac-ian race…"

BTW, you know you have too much time on your hands when you take a picture of your giant ALF doll posed to eat your cat. My cat, Asher, is looking at me like, "You’re such a tool." :D

I remember my brother and I being in strong protest of ALF’s complete and total takeover of Saturday morning television. We exaggerated the truth, but it definitely felt like there were 26 different ALF cartoons on simultaneously.

I always got a kick out of ALF Tales, the second cartoon encarnation of ALF. Came on before Camp Candy which sucked ass but that came on before captain N so i managed to suffer through it many times.

Matt –

I’m sending you an email right now.

Dream Saturday morning line up…hmmm

Hong Kong Phooey
Clerks: Uncensored
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Josie and the Pussycats
Josie and the Pussycats in OuterSpace.

Repeat ad naseum.

When are they gonna get off their butts and make Josie in OuterSpace a reality? I mean the girls have been doing well since then (e.g., Shattered Glass, Van Wilder, Stateside, etc.) but we all need the sequel especially Alan (I mean c’mon Son of Mask?). You don’t even need a trilogy. Just do OuterSpace and call it quits. Unless there was a third series of the comics/cartoons. I honestly dunno. I should. If they’re on DVD I think I’m going to have to buy them. But on the same note, I haven’t bought all the Letters to Cleo albums as I had planned. I am working on getting all of Rachael’s movies, so I’m not a total failure :D

Who else thinks Parker would have been great as Jill in Resident Evil: Apocalypse? What, just me?

"Ryane, Johns Hopkins University. Saturday, October 29th. Midnight. I hear the shows have been getting better and better."

Are you asking me out? :P hehe You know I’ve never been to a live show, but I’ve seen the movie about 4,000,000 times! Actually I think VH1 showed a live preformance once, but I could be wrong. It was a while ago, if so.

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 10/01/2005 10:52 PM

Alright, John Lennon, very nice, but what point are you trying to make?

I much prefer the A Perfect Circle version, just to be controversial :D

I saw A History of Violence tonight. I mean it wasn’t unbearable, but I didn’t get anything out of it. Didn’t really seem to go anywhere and nothing about the plot or characters was very developed. Overall verdict: Thumbs down. 5/10

Oh and for my all my Peacenik needs I go with:

As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin for light in the darkness of insanity.

I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?

And each time I feel like this inside,
There’s one thing I wanna know:
What’s so funny bout peace love & understanding? ohhhh
What’s so funny bout peace love & understanding?

And as I walk on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.

cause each time I feel it slippin away, just makes me wanna cry.
What’s so funny bout peace love & understanding? ohhhh
What’s so funny bout peace love & understanding?

So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?

LOL! Ryane and I have this unintentional courtship going on on the X-E boards… maybe now is the time to mention that I’m a pretty religious Catholic and see if she runs screaming…

Oh, and I will definitely be in Baltimore at JHU for the showing… if X-E readers in Maryland happen to show up and tell the cast that they came because Vegan Mike told them to come, they will definitely get a warm reception.

Chestnuts roasted by Vegan Mike @ 10/01/2005 11:39 PM

You deleted John Lennon! Sacralige! I’m with you Darth Poop, we’re the black sheep of X-E, eh?

Since this one is gonna be deleted too, I’m going to say that the new movie Domino is stupid for having a gang of "first ladies". They’re just blatently ripping off Point Break. For shame, for shame.

I hope I’m remembering that right from the Trailer. If not I’m going to look very stupid.

but how would that be different from any other day…

Chestnuts roasted by Knegative @ 10/01/2005 11:39 PM

Did I just say it was unintentional? After I started it? Wow… why the hell am I tired to the point of forgetting things like that at 11:40 PM?!?

Chestnuts roasted by Vegan Mike @ 10/01/2005 11:40 PM

*is also singing the ALF theme song*
10:00 (when i would wake up) Muppet Babies
10:30 Freakazoid
11:00 Garfield and Friends
11:30 Tick
12:00 Powerpuff Girls
Matt, do you think that full sized Fruit-Roll-Ups are a good Halloween Treat? B/c I was thinking of buying a whole bunch and giving them out to trick or treaters.

Chestnuts roasted by Bitchick @ 10/01/2005 11:52 PM

Speaking of Saturday Morning lineups, I love reading old comic books and coming across ads where the networks would announce their Saturday lineups. I currently have an old comic from 1984 in front of me with NBC’s and CBS’s lineup for that year.

CBS
Muppet Babies
Saturday Supercade
Getalong Gang
Dungeons and Dragons
Pole Position
Pryor’s Place (Richard Pryor had a kids show?)

NBC
Snorks
Pink Panther and Sons
Smurfs
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Kidd Video
Mister T
Going Bananas
Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends
One To Grow On

I think this would be a very good topic for a future article.

Chestnuts roasted by JLAJRC @ 10/02/2005 12:18 PM

Clerks Uncensored? Only if it’s new episodes.

I’m way too tired to make up a line-up, but it would include David the Gnome, Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics, and Garfield and Friends.

Chestnuts roasted by Jessica Marie @ 10/02/2005 12:18 PM

Saturday morning lineup … this ia a hard one. I’ve been thinking about it and …

1. Tom and Jerry
2. Smurfs
3. Woody Woodpecker
4. Mighty Mouse
5. The Mouse that Jack Built (I think that’s what it’s called – a fellow X-E reader gave me info on that not too long ago) :)
6. I have to throw "Project A-ko" in there too. It used to be on Saturday morning on Sci-Fi.

Mike – ;) Catholics don’t bother me. My mom is technically one, but none of us are very religious at all. Ok I admit, I’ve never been to more than about 5 church services in my life, and I helped out a friend with Bible School once. But nah, I’d never run screaming :) I’m open to all religion.

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 10/02/2005 12:24 PM

Hey Matt. I’m a mid-30ish gal. Born on October 30. I know Halloween. You, dear, are the first human that I think deserves to be a rich, rich man. You are THE funniest sunofabitch I’ve not met. All my gross and tall best wishes. xo

Chestnuts roasted by Shawntelle @ 10/02/2005 12:30 PM

The movie Domino is actually based on a true girl who used to be a model then became a bounty hunter.

I wish I could make that stuff up.

As for my dream Saturday lineup:

Clerks: Uncensored
The Tick
X-Men
Transformers
Garfield and Friends
Futurama

All of these need new episodes. All of them. And of course, they need to resurrect the voice of Starscream for it.

I love RHPS…When I pledged my fraternity, we had to do the Time Warp…So I got to know that part REALLY well…

-6:30: Tiny Toons
-7:00: Animaniacs
-8:00: TMNT (the 80′s/early 90′s series)
-8:30: TaleSpin

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 10/02/2005 12:38 PM

"Pryor’s Place"? I’ll have to be on the lookout for "Lenny Bruce’s Funtime Playhouse" now.

I have no idea what I’d put in a lineup. I know I’d want "Real Ghostbusters." I don’t think that old (and rather odd) early-’90s "Beetlejuice" cartoon has been mentioned, so I’ll throw that up there too.

Chestnuts roasted by Monte @ 10/02/2005 1:42 AM

I’m not going to list my shows because I’m the obsessive type that would sit and work on my list for three days without pause for food or rest with nothing to show for it but a fictional line-up and some stanky trousers.

Regardless of my self-impossed exclusion from this fun, I have a question for the Saturday morning fans: my friend and I have had a number of vague discussions about a show that we hardly remember. It was a live action, ABC affair with humans that lived in a land of Animatronic dinosaurs. Any ideas, kids?

Chestnuts roasted by Tougi @ 10/02/2005 1:57 AM

Tougi- Land of the lost maybe?

Chestnuts roasted by D-Roc @ 10/02/2005 2:07 AM

I believe you are thinking of the 1991 version of "Land of the Lost."

That’s all that comes to mind anyway.

Chestnuts roasted by Monte @ 10/02/2005 2:07 AM

I’m going to say my entire saturday morning consist of nothing but Pokemon, if for no other reason but to protest the fact that no one has put it in their list. I don’t care if I was well over the demographic age range when it came out. That show made saturday mornings worth it again.
