10/01/2005: Zathura killed X-E.

It’s October, and yes, I missed Friday’s entry. Was going to try to whip up one quick this morning, but I had whipping up ones quick. Whipping up ones quick sucks. Consider yesterday’s non-entry a loan that I will make up for with an extra entry later. I gotta get to work on next week’s shite.

Why’d I skip? Had to go to a screening for Zathura for a couple of work-related projects. I don’t think I’m allowed to “review” the movie for like a month or something, but I will say that Sony impressed me by turning what would normally only be a dry screening event into a pizza party.

This is your surveyless Saturday thread — surveyless because the previous thread seems to still be kickin’ ass old school.

I’m all about the Space Invader alien costume. If I wanted to be a naked Sim, I’d just walk outside naked. That’s how I roll.

I bought Rocky Horror Picture Show on DVD and I’m checking out the commentary now. Way too excited to be watching a movie I’ve seen about 800 + times…I never did make it to a theater for the full experience, weirdly enough, but my old VHS version was pretty much in constant rotation in high school. I totally bought the DVD for myself as an "early Halloween present" which I never would have done before X-E.

Ghosted by squee4242 @ 10/01/2005 2:06 PM EDT

My mom won’t let me see the Rocky Horror Picture Show:( She says it’s wrong and disturbing. I am so out of here when I turn 18. Snivvian sucker punch!

I wish I could go back in time and erase Tim Curry’s existance. The man just creeps me out no matter what role he plays and I just don’t think he’s that funny…I dunno, maybe I just don’t get…

I was Brad in the live cast at the Johns Hopkins Rocky Horror performances for 3 semesters (before we got caught with alcohol and couldn’t perform that Spring… ironically, the party we had instead of a show that semester was the only place I’ve *ever* had alcohol). Great great fun…

Ooh and I’ve got a plane ticket to get me to B’more to see the new JHU cast perform on the 29th of October. Couldn’t be more excited about that :-D

Oh, and I will say firmly: if you haven’t seen it in a theater, or at least in a room full of people who have seen it in a theater and know some good call lines, you totally haven’t seen the movie.

Making a post from work. Woo Hoo!
Anyways, the thing I remember from Halloween was the electric and warm feelin of Fall. Something about the season always strikes an emotional string in my being. It’s a warm, friendly feeling that reminds me of coming home after school, crunching orange and red leaves with my sneakers in anticipation of whatever warm dinnner mom would cook up. Hopefully, whatever Halloween it was, I wouldn’t have to wear a coat over my costume >:( That always sucked when I had to do that.
Then, it was going out with my friends and rounding the neighbourhood to gather all the candy we could, plus the usual toothbrush from the dentist’s house (go figga).
The next day would be the usual trading of candy during lunch hour. It was a great time.
It sucks to grow up. It really does.

Amen to that.

Ghosted by eyeless @ 10/01/2005 2:40 PM EDT

Mike, I know a moderate number of the callback responses because I’ve heard the album with a recording of an audience participating. The great thing about this DVD is that there’s a subtitle option to prompt the callbacks. Haven’t checked it out yet but I think it’s a great special feature. I had friends who went to midnight shows all the time but somehow never mustered the ambition to go. My mom also was discouraging of my attending, but that wouldn’t have stopped me :D I’ll make it some day, but I think I’ll cheat and deny my ‘virginity’.

Ghosted by squee4242 @ 10/01/2005 2:48 PM EDT

Someone tried to trick me into going to a midnight showing once. thank god i didn’t into their trap. I heard about all the silly things they do to "virgins" and i wanted no part of it and besides I absolutely despise RHPS. it was a heavy sigh of relief.

Did anyone see the boring Christopher Walken vampire flick "The Addiction" on IFC last night? ZZZZZZZZ

http://www.411mania.com

At the website above they started their second annual "31 Years, 31 Screams" horror movie reviews. A horror film is reviewed daily. It’s cool.

Season premiere of SNL tonight with Steve Carrell. Cool. Wonder who’ll temporarily take Tina Fey’s place since she’s on maternity leave.

Hey my town has an old timey movie theater called "The Freemont".
They’re going to be rescreening old movies from the 60’s and 70’s.
Anyone up for some late kubrick?

Ghosted by Zorkporker @ 10/01/2005 3:39 PM EDT

phung, I can see not liking RHPS but hating on Tim Curry? That’s just nuts.
In addition to the audience prompting subtitles, there’s a commentary track with a real audience shouting all over themselves…I’m listening now and must admit I prefer the movie on it’s own.

To put something of a topic on this random Saturday Thread, I pose this question. What would your perfect Saturday Morning line-up be? The line-up starts at 6 AM and ends at Noon, and may have ANY cartoon or other saturday-morning-y TV show you desire.

Ghosted by DocDragon @ 10/01/2005 4:11 PM EDT

You can grow older, get responsibilities, have a job, stuff like that, but you don’t have to grow up. Not completely.

Ghosted by kingklash still plays with toys. @ 10/01/2005 4:21 PM EDT

I don’t know what it is. It just seems like whenever tim curry looks right at the camera he is violating me…But like I said before maybe i just don’t get it.

SATURDAY MORNING LINEUP!!

6AM-VOLTRON
7AM-HE-MAN
8AM-ANIMANIACS
9AM-TALESPIN
10AM-DUCKTALES
11AM-CAPTAIN N: THE GAME MASTER
12AM-MUPPET BABIES

there are just too many cartoons to choose from. Condolences to those I left out.

Ghosted by phunqsauce @ 10/01/2005 4:22 PM EDT

Hey, does anyone else think that Tim Curry would be the perfect choice to play The Joker in the Batman Begins sequel? I’ve always thought that he would’ve been a million times better than Jack Nicholson. I’ve heard talk of Crispin Glover being considered, but seriously, Curry would be the shit.

Ghosted by Kyle @ 10/01/2005 4:31 PM EDT

I’m thinking Mark Hamill should be Joker! You know, since he did the voice in the animated series. I think he’s due for a rousing performance. Seriously… Wouldn’t that be cool???

Ghosted by Mattman @ 10/01/2005 4:51 PM EDT

yes. mark hamill IS the joker!

Ghosted by ME @ 10/01/2005 5:05 PM EDT

That GI Joe Sigma six looks pretty damn cool. I just hope that perhaps they will release the japanese version with subtitles. Its terrible how these companies compromise the quality of the show by translating them so horribly. At least with the subtitles you are getting a truer translation…

I just got off my lazy ass and bought the shaun of the dead on DVD. I swear, this is the first time i’ve gotten off my lazy ass to get a DVD for the halloween spirit. But i cinda regret, because i could’ve bought seed of chucky for 5 clams cheaper.

But i wanna ask to anyone who clecked dohopoki’s name, what would’ve you used it for, if it worked?

phunqsauce, here is a better trailer with character introductions.

phunqsauce – I think the POINT of Tim Curry is that he violates you when he looks at you. Or when he sings about Cole Porter songs. It’s what makes him so great. mmmm. Curry Smarm.

Need suggestions on what to do tonight, or it’s drinking games with Tivoed episodes of Next Generation. Again. Open to ideas, people!

*siiiigh* I freakin LOVE RHPS!!! :( That’s all I’ll say.

Matt, I had no idea Zathura was a movie! At work a couple weeks ago we got a board game in of it at work. It looked really weird and I was wondering WTF it was. Thanks :)

ME you always have the best f’n links around. You are certainly a treasure trove. Wow you can tell how bored i am by how many posts i’ve put in here…hehehe…i think one of my fave drinking games involved watching The Last Boyscout and one of the rules was you had to drink everytime Bruce Willis smoked a cigarette. So basically we were drinking throughout the the whole frickin’ movie…ahhhhh wasted brain cells :)

Just got back from "Serenity." Awesome movie. If you haven’t already, rent the Firefly DVDs and then go watch the movie. I can’t promise anything if you haven’t seen the show. I saw my first episode a week ago. I’m actually pretty surprised that I’m the first to mention it here. You know, considering we’re a group of people spending our Saturday night on a message board.
In other news, I’m drinking the Candy Corn soda. Initial reaction: it tastes like nine asses. Live and learn, I suppose.

Why does your Saturday suck? Mine sucks because I’m at work.

General, overwhelming sense of boredom, lack of ambition, clock-ticking ever towards Monday, having so much to do that I can’t even start, and I don’t know what this last one means, but I’m hearing quiet tonight.

Caught a small portion of Frakenfish on Sci-Fi Channel. Unfortunately I fell asleep as soon as i turned it on but it looked quite cheesy and incredibly low budget. A worthy combination in my view!

Ghosted by phunqsauce @ 10/01/2005 9:26 PM EDT

P.S. sorry for the double post but i saw a trailer for the Doom movie when I went to see Serenity on Thursday night. It even lowered my low view of the movie. The way they try to emulate the first-person view in some parts looks hokey and just plain awful. It also looks like it has no plot whatsoever and the movie just REEKS!!!! Perhaps this is the next generation of midnight showing cult classics?? If Tim Curry ends up in this movie somehow I will shit myself!! hehehe I know i’m a big loser…
