My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

Zathura killed X-E.

It's October, and yes, I missed Friday's entry. Was going to try to whip up one quick this morning, but I had whipping up ones quick. Whipping up ones quick sucks. Consider yesterday's non-entry a loan that I will make up for with an extra entry later. I gotta get to work on next week's shite.

Why'd I skip? Had to go to a screening for Zathura for a couple of work-related projects. I don't think I'm allowed to "review" the movie for like a month or something, but I will say that Sony impressed me by turning what would normally only be a dry screening event into a pizza party.

This is your surveyless Saturday thread -- surveyless because the previous thread seems to still be kickin' ass old school.

Hey, what was that gameshow with that guy–my memory tells me he looked like the guy who was the lawyer on that MTV Court Show and went on to play the guy in Van Wilder who first paid Van to plan parties–who had kids playing Nintendo games and then had like a store and would pick stuff out of it to give to them when they won?

It couldn’t have been called Nintendo Power, could it? I remember watching it every morning before going to school.

Kennef- no that was another show made by the same guy that did Captain Scarlet. Captain Scarlet is way better.

The one when they were in the submarine was called Stingray. I saw it on the TV one afternoon a few weeks back. One of the puppets actually SWEATED. But he *was* trying to diffuse a bomb.

Gotta love Captain Scarlet. "S.I.G., Captain" It took me forever to find out what S.I.G. meant.

Kennef, I think you are referring to Stingray. I forget if it was made before or after Captain Scarlet, but it was the same idea, with the marionettes, and made by the same guy (Gerry Anderson)

Oh, Mikee Teevee beat me to it. And I was so excited to be the first one to come up with the answer. Oh well

Sorry about that LuLu, maybe you could name-check Thunderbirds so you look totally Gee Anderson to the core.

LuLu- don’t listen to Mikee Teevee, he’s obviously a Mysteron agent! S.I.R.! Spectrum is Red! Spectrum is very Red!

Chestnuts roasted by Darth Poop @ 10/02/2005 8:14 PM

lol. Yeah, those Mysterons could take over anybody and you would never know it until they attempt their heinous plot. That’s what I loved about Captain Scarlet…you never know who might be a Mysteron agent. That and the fact the Captain Scarlet was completely immortal made this the best show. Was there anything that could kill him? I know he had the power to regenerate and all that, but I don’t remember if there was one thing that could actually kill him.

I watched one episode of Stingray, but I didn’t like it nearly as much. It took me a while to get into it, and by then the episode was almost over. It was okay though.

Somebody mentioned Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. Ah, the crazy world of Sid and Marty Krofft. I LOVE H. R. Pufnstuf. For some reason it makes me feel so happy!!

I am too young to actually remember any of these shows on TV, but I have recently seen them on DVD. Kind of makes me wish I had been born earlier…naw, the 80s were the best. *hums TMNT theme song*

I’m too lazy to put together an actual Sat. lineup, but it would include the following:

David the Gnome
Today’s Special
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Super Mario Brothers Super Show (they need to put this on DVD.)
Maple Town
that Nick show with the koalas…not the noozles…I’ll think of it later
My Little Pony
Garfield and Friends
Pinwheel
Space Cases
Pete and Pete
maybe a very early All That
Bill Nye the Science Guy
Wishbone
Blue’s Clues (with STEVE, not Joe!)
Tailspin
Gummi Bears
Ducktales

I’m sure there are more that I would include, but those are the main ones.

Well, I was assuming the poll is calling for old cartoons we miss that if we saw them on saturday morning, with a great big bowl of cocoa puffs (my choice for cereal chocolately goodness) a glass of milk, and some other kind of early morning snacks on a comfy couch, they would feel like a kid again.

I’m just saying it sounds really off when they start putting anime and futurama, and other adult cartoons. And besides, you can watch those shows on cartoon network, why wouldn’t you want to open up a fantasy vault and poke around and pull out cartoons you haven’t seen for years.

That is what I am sayin’ is all :)

the koala cartoon I was thinking of was "Adventures of the Little Koala" I really loved that show, but it was a little strange…sometimes it scared me. But then again, I was scared of everything when I was a kid.

And HOW could I forget to put Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite and Carebears on my list!!! Strawberry Shortcake always made me feel so happy. I’m glad they are bringing her back and all, but it is totally not the same!!

*nods head in agreement with LuLu*

I am an early riser, so I shall cover all bases of the Saturday morning ritual, from stumbling out of bed to being told to leave the TV alone and go outside or do homework…

6AM – "Starstuff" (Philly CBS affiliate’s cheap kids’ live-action show)
6:30AM – "Today’s Special"
7AM – "Dora the Explorer"
7:30AM – "The Smurfs"
8AM – "Muppet Babies"
8:30AM – "Garfield and Friends"
9AM – "Ducktails"
9:30AM – "Tail Spin"
10AM – "TMNT" (original)
10:30AM – "The Real Ghostbusters"
11AM – "Sailor Moon"
11:30AM – "Jem and the Holograms"
12PM – "Looney Tunes"
Random "Schoolhouse Rock" segments between shows

Narrowly missing out…

"He-Man"
"She-Ra"
"Dungeons and Dragons"
"Pokemon" (first two seasons)
"Animaniacs"
"Blue’s Clues"
"Pirates of Dark Water"
"Recess"
"Alivn and the Chipmunks/Chipmunks Go to the Movies"
"Darkwing Duck"
"Chip n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers"
"Pepper Ann"
The many versions of "Scooby Doo"
"Danger Mouse"
"Count Duckula"
"The Powerpuff Girls"
"Tom and Jerry"

And speaking of cartoons, I finally got around to buying my second Halloween special, a video copy of "It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." I can now fully appreciate Chuck’s humiliating trick-or-treat and Linus’ yearly sit in the pumpkin patch more than just the week before.
