Saturday Thread, Duh.

I've only got a quick sec before a friend stops by to help me with a computer hardware issue in exchange for free Japanese food, SO HERE'S YER SATURDAY THREAD! All day, all night, all right.

Our official movie of the night: A Nightmare on Elm Street: Part II, airing on Encore at 10:35 PM. (And for others, at different times, and for others, at no time at all. Buy the damn DVD.) The Monday after next marks the start of X-E's 2005 Halloween Countdown - yay!

Edit: It's Sunday. Keep posting.

I have no idea what’s going on here, but I’m totally pissed about the whole Something Awful / Paypal / Redcross thing, $20,000 dollars going who-knows-where. Seriously, nice to my and countless others’ money are probably going to fill Paypal’s wallets.

Chestnuts roasted by Radio @ 09/04/2005 1:15 AM

An X-E chatroom wouldn’t be as much fun as this, in my opinion. Though I’d still rock it every chance I got. And yes, it IS hot in here.

Yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever read a more pissed-off post by Lowtax.

The problem will probably be fixed shortly… but the point is the people in New Orleans need the money NOW.

Chestnuts roasted by Night_Trekker @ 09/04/2005 1:17 AM

Exactly. It’s funny how charity gets messed up when enough money is given to it.

They were showing Nightmare 1, 2 and 3, back-to-back, on Movie Greats a day or two ago…How convenient.

Anyway, I never noticed before, nor got, what was up with those ‘whale songs’ in the background in 2. Maybe some people think ‘whale’ when they think Freddy…I dunno. I can definitely remember it being used during the ‘final battle’ where whatsername (Meryl Streep? Heh) kisses Freddy/Jesse (Fresse? Jeddy? I prefer Jeddy).

Do they talk about the music at all on the DVD?

I had to make sure I didn’t dream that up, so if you go http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000014TF/ref=pd_cps_m_5/002-0941640-9153652?v=glance&s=music">here, and click on 12 (Sjports Attack/Threatening Angela), you can hear some whale action. The whales kick in around 12secs.

Enough about whales though, I love when Jeddy busts out of the door and disappears just before the pool massacre, and you see all those dudes kinda crab-crouching towards the broken glass and stuff. It’s hilarious…especially this one dude’s face. You don’t see a lot of crab-crouching in movies these days and I think that’s a real shame.

And one last thing – I think the best character in that movie was the ‘Pool Negotiator’. I hope he got a medal of honour or something. At least mentioned in the local newspaper? I smell spin-off series for that guy, even if he’s dead.

Chestnuts roasted by mickeychelle @ 09/04/2005 1:28 AM

ya, that chick did look like Meryl Streep!! Crazy!

the Pool Guy was such a nice guy!! *sniff* he deserved better…i tell ya! *sobs*

Yay Saturday night thread! My first ever contribution! People don’t put enough effort into Halloween anymore. Last year the weather was great and there were almost no kids trick-or-treating outside. They were all trick-or-treating in the mall. Talk about lame and/or lazy parents.

Chestnuts roasted by Gabbylicious @ 09/04/2005 1:39 AM

Was it Greg Proops on his Comedy Central Presents…? It’s not an insult to real mexican food or people of said heritage, because I’ve had real mexican food and its much more than that and much better.

I beleive Jim Gaffigan had a bit about that too on his Comedy Central Presents

*after explaining to a customer he was waiting on that tacos, and tostatas are made of bread, meat and vegetables*

"Look, just say a spanish word, and I’ll bring you something!"

My weirdest dream had me working on an ice cream truck, but it sold Italian Ices. And for some reason, Bill Clinton (the Darrell Hammond version on SNL, not the real thing) always wanted the blue ones, but not by ordering them, he tried to buy them while in several disguises, like the Trix Rabbit.

Oh, and something about William Rhenquist dying on saturday night at age 80…

I had my worst nightmare in elementary school. A California Raisin came out of the TV and attacked me. When I pushed him back, he flopped on the ground and made a dreadful noise that sounded like a horse mixed with one of the nasally-voiced coaches from Mutant League Football (for Sega Genesis).

USA Network made a show out of Weird Science–dunno what it was like, but it lasted longer than any other movie-based show they tried. And an episode of THAT inspired the movie "Scream." Interesting, eh?

Chestnuts roasted by Mars @ 09/04/2005 2:20 AM

Oh, the Weird Science show was great. Well, not really, but you got to see Abe Vigoda in drag and Bruce Campbell singing.

Chestnuts roasted by AJ @ 09/04/2005 2:27 AM

The Weird Science tv show inspired Scream? O_o

That show was good for one thing: Vanessa Angel. God that woman is beautiful.

Recently I saw her in Puppetmaster Vs. Demonic Toys. Oh, how the mighty have fallen… -_-

Chestnuts roasted by Night_Trekker @ 09/04/2005 2:45 AM

I always mixed up Weird Science the TV show with Parker Lewis Can’t Lose. I’m not sure why, they didn’t have too much in common other than two high school guys as stars.

I’m watching Back to the Future for the second time today and probably the 1000th time in my life. I just now noticed that Lorraine’s little brother with the Davy Crocket hat is none other than Kevin Arnold’s older brother Wayne from the Wonder Years.

Great Saturday Night Thread!!

I had a dream once where… well… you see… I’m not really sure if I was dreaming, because I suffer from extreme insomnia and some sleep walking, so I could’ve been just half awake. I cannot remember all of it, but I woke up in a dingy basement (that looked nothing like my own) with what seemed to be a pile of human limbs in a pile on a wheelchair, a half dead man in chains on a wall, and I noticed my legs had a shitload of what looked like cat scratches (I did have cats, and they weren’t declawed). The the walls began to shake, and I heared a voice repeating "This is not the true answer" in a satanic tone. Yeah, fucking freaky.

I must have some mental block for X-E on Saturday nights. :( I was sooo bored and had nothing to do – do you think I remembered the Saturday Night Thread? Hell no.

Well, since the movie seemed to come on at 11:30, I had a new Inuyasha to watch anyhow. :P

I had a dream about Freddy once. It was pretty screwy. Started out I was outside at some funeral – it looked like something out of the "November Rain" GNR video, dunno why. Anyhow, Freddy jumps up out of this casket and starts chasing me. I make it back inside, to the kitchen, grab me a big ol’ butcher knife and when he comes tearing in, I stab him repeatedly in the chest. The dream skipped a little, and I was thinking, "Ok cool, I killed him, don’t have to worry about him anymore." and that’s all I remember.

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 09/04/2005 10:17 AM

AJ: Also, I always liked the watch. Everyone had the Dick Tracy watch though.

I wanted that watch so much, but never actually got it! I vaguely remember some sort of TV promotion where you had to put clues together and send the answer in to win one of the watches. It might have revolved around the Disney Afternoon as well, but I could be wrong. Anybody else remember this and can fill in the missing pieces for me?

oh man, i’m so glad i accidentally turned on the radio. the crappy rock station (92.3 x-treme radio)in cleveland decided to resurrect the music and djs from my favorite radio station from the mid 90′s!!! I have been glued to the radio to hear all of my fave alternative songs from back in the day. Its nice to hear good rock on the radio again, well at least for this weekend. Long live 107.9 THE END!!!

Hey Matt,

I agree with what you had to say about the whole genie ordeal in Cereal Prize Project Group 14. I actually met Mark Waid (a well-known comic book writer from LA) yesterday (Saturday), and we were discussing how ideas are most successful when they aren’t so concerned with exactly what the audience wants. And that includes not taking concepts that others have thought of and coming up with our own version thereof. He used the example of TMNT. Eastman and Laird’s idea was rather experimental, but it was successful. And sure enough, there were those who tried to ride on that success with their own TMNT-like ideas, but who the Hell remembers them. I vaguely remember the likes of Biker Mice From Mars (and I do actually have a VHS from this series), but it is certainlynot as memorable as TMNT. Anyway, I find that I’m learning a lot about writing and the ideas that work, as well as the ones that don’t work, from your writing, Matt. Thank you.

Chestnuts roasted by Nate @ 09/04/2005 3:09 PM

Nate has learned one of the godforsaken truths about advertising and/or popular characters: If it’s worth doing, then it’s worth others overdoing. TMNT begat a bevy of fighting animals, MMPR set loose a legion of martial artists in spandex shows. The original Star Wars gave us cute robots, robots with british accents, "laser" swords, and scenes with crowds of weird aliens. Harry Potter is big right now, and look how many "Magic" shows are being made for kids right now, including a Super Sentai show in Japan! Just wait until X-E becomes popular and well-known around the world. Kids will want to be like Matt, Squee, Gabby, Gozer, Manimal, or, heaven forbid, yours truly! Time to stick my head back in the bucket again….

Hahahaha I wonder who people would ship as their OTPs :D
I figure most everybody has tomorrow off, right? Perhaps it’ll keep bumping like a Saturday all night. Don’t know of any horror flicks airing, but I’m sure a few others will be watching the Entourage finale with me.
