Yeah, so I’m about to settle in for a seven hour focus-fest to get the next article done. Meantime, here’s your Bored Saturday Night Thread. If time permits, the Midnight Movie will be Halloween 6. Chat away.
It seems that the heads of the next 4 seasons’ box sets will be in this order: Marge (7th), Lisa (8th), Maggie( 9th), and Bart (10th). No word yet on what the next 6+ seasons will look like, and if some new format replaces DVDs by then…

Speaking of Tv shows on DVD, could someone who has the Clarissa Explains It All season 1 DVD get me the quote from the No T.V. episode, the part were Ferguson comes down stairs after getting the high score of a video game?

You know….I dumped my girlfriend last weekend to do this. Screw her….this is much more interesting. Sitting here watching The Black Hole if anyone’s interested

I’m an 18 year old white male living in a Canadian suburb. Help! or else I will continue posting really annoying comments about how I’m drunk and bored…I’m serious, I’ll do it…don’t push me mister.

E.Claire is tucked away for the night, Mrs. Manimal is working on photo album/scrapbook, and I am paying bills, planning lessons and watching SIMPSONS season 2. All is right with the world.
Halloween 6 huh? Historical only for the fact that you can actually watch Donald Pleasance dying on film.

I’m hoping someone here can help. Does anybody remember the name of the Star Wars board game where you destroyed the Death Star. I remember it have a little clear base that you put 3 X-Wings on and you went around the board and up the trench. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Ghosted by Joe in OH @ 08/06/2005 9:59 PM EDT
Kenner made Destroy Death Star and Escape from the Death Star board games when the movie was first out.
Ghosted by Dohopoki @ 08/06/2005 10:07 PM EDT
Destroy Death is it! Thanks Dohopoki!

I defy anyone to watch "Halloween 6" and actually be able to follow what’s going on, especially in the last half.
I have the Escape From Death Star game somewhere in my basement. I remember those little cardboard figures you stuck on bases quite well.

I actually fell asleep before the last half or so of Halloween 5, but that was more to do with being really tired than being really bored. It seemed a lot better than the reviews I’ve read say — and I mean reviews from horror fans, not those predisposed to hate hate hate Hallo. From what I hear though, the last half is where everything falls apart.
The Man In Black?

Lifetime is showing Golden Palace, the Golden Girls spinoff, at 6:30 and 11:00 if anyone is interested.
I just got done with all the paperwork and horse shit my band had to take care of for our first album to be made. I’m exhausted from it, but excited! Three weeks and we’ll be holding it in our hands!
Click my name to check out our myspace page, we have free downloads and it’s really cool!
I’m not seeing any Golden Palace on Lifetime at 6:30 or 11:00. I guess I’ll have to live with the Jetsons.

Glad to see that the blog is less cluttered than when I last checked. *clears throat*
Where is everybody and why am I here? One little nugget of interest from today’s trip to WAL-MART: There was part of a STAR WARS display laying around and I put it in the bottom of my cart and walked out with it. The "greeter" stopped me and inquired where I got it,etc. Then, she asked me if I wanted her to throw it away. "Since when did customers become part of the custodial staff?" I wondered to myself. It is now in my garage. Yea!

There’s an 80’s slasherfest on IFC tonight of Friday the 13th and My Bloody Valentine. Other than that nothing is up.
Ghosted by JLAJRC @ 08/06/2005 11:27 PM EDT
Yea, I’m all about the Slashback on IFC. They tricked me yesterday and I thought that Friday the 13th was gonna be on, but it wasn’t. So now, after I slept the entire day away, I’m gonna watch me some 80’s movies and take vicodin. <3 I rock.
It’s a pretty good show, but you can tell they ran out of jokes, since they’re still talking about Dorothy being so big and strong with a deep voice.
Also, did anyone notice that in the 4th or 5th ep. that Blanche’s hair got like 5 shades darker. Nice try, but it looked better a little lighter.
Cheech is a pretty good character, but when they had him working with his best friend/cuckolder…that was kind of stretching it.
That kid can go die…he bugs me with his fake New York accent. Dorothy and Sophia never had "accents", they were from Brooklyn, but this kid sounds like a cartoon.
Otherwise, just sitting here, smokin…got done watching Airplane! like 10 min. ago….Surely, it was funny as always!

I have to say I’m (almost) always late getting into things. I just visited Homestarrunner for the first time last night.
This is because I found out Mike was one of the guys in All the Real Girls. His character’s name was StrongBad. Surprise Surprise.
Well if I look stupid for not knowing about Homestarruner at least I own All the Real Girls. It’s in my top 10, you should check it out.
Ghosted by Knegative @ 08/06/2005 11:47 PM EDT
oh yea, I was gonna ask if anyone remembered those awesome shopping sprees at Toys R’ Us that you could win on Nickelodeon? I remember I wanted to win SO BAD and thinking I could do so much better than the stupid kids that they showed.
I remember those contest and always wanted to win pretty bad too. To the extent of making a my dream shopping list and carrying it around just in case I won with out warning. I don’t think I ever even entered looking back on it.

Way to go, Manimal! When my mom worked at a grocery store, she scored me a couple of displays, but they were of things I was only moderately interested in and weren’t worth my valuable bedroom real estate at the time, so they all got tossed. She got me a big Blue’s Clues display, but since my interest in that show began and ended with Steve (and he wasn’t represented), there was no point. That was definitely one of my weirder TV crushes. Hey, here’s a question: What’s your favorite show to watch for all the wrong reasons? (Bonus points for mentioning the reasons.) It doesn’t have to be some pretty face either. Maybe you’re like my Grandpa and like watching Nascar for crash potential. I just like hearing about other people’s guilty pleasures (since I have so many of my own.)
Ghosted by Lori @ 08/06/2005 11:57 PM EDT
Halloween 6? Good choice. Halloween 6 is a pretty good movie, but the version that is out pales in comparison to the Producer’s Cut of the movie. The P-Cut basically has a smoother plot and it explains a lot more. I do have to admit, that Halloween 5 is one of the weaker sequels, but still better than what it’s portrayed to be. But of course, I’m an avid Halloween fan, so I think they all have their good points, except that piece of trash Resurrection. You’ll get to find out about the Man in Black in H6. Guy’s got some balls to be chilling with Michael Myers.

Eh, I just got back from a wrestling show, and now im tired and bored and sitting here with nothing to do…..so, heres a question: What is everyone’s thoughts on the crapfest known as Halloween 3: Season of the Witch?
Halloween 3 had originality. Um, that’s about it. I’m suprised that John Carpenter actually went through with making it under the Halloween name. But the best thing to come out of Halloween 3? The Silver Shamrock song of course!!! *sings* 8 more days to Halloween, Halloween, Halloween…

This worked pretty well last week, so I’m putting myself at the blog’s mercy.
Little Buddha or Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Input please.
Ribbings welcome as always

I went to the zoo today, and it rocked. Panda Bears are freakin huge. I really wish I could bond with you guys on the Halloween movies, but i think I’ve only seen 2 or 3 and that was ages ago. However, Lori, I watched The Biggest Loser because it was facinating how quickly people lost like a hundred pounds. And my biggest TV guilty pleasure is American Idol, even after the funny/bad singer part of the show is over.
Little Buddha, cause that sure wasn’t Bram’s Dracula.
I know other people here had to have watched the conan movies, watching barbarian right now. I never noticed there was nudity in it. I always got cults are bad from it.
guilty pleasure
I watch star trek while working out at a public gym, don’t think people don’t stare at the geek.

What is "All The Real Girls" and why was a Chapman Brother involved? Is it a movie or an online RPG?
God, If I wasn’t at my mom’s right now, I would so be all over the weekly Cheap Seats mini Marathon, and watch all the episodes I’ve seen a billion times again.
Ghosted by Nephie @ 08/07/2005 2:04 AM EDT
So sorry, but I got distracted by Empire Records
All the Real Girls is a movie. Zooey Daschenel (of Almost Famous fame) is the biggest name in the movie besides Mike Chapman. I honestly dunno why he’s in the movie. It’s basically a quiet little cracked-love story.
I was on imdb and saw that he did Homestarrunner and remembered people on the blog mentioning it.
Ghosted by Knegative @ 08/07/2005 2:19 AM EDT
Alright did a little detective work (i.e. I checked the imdb boards–don’t you hate it how you have to sign in to read them and they don’t redirect you back to where you were. Night_Trekker I’m with you, they’re an abomination).
Matt, Missy, and Craig Zobel (??) were all extras, and because the director knew them he credited Matt as StrongBad.
Okay, wasn’t that interesting
Little Buddha it is!
Ghosted by Knegative @ 08/07/2005 2:33 AM EDT
OKAY. Matt was in the movie. Mike was a graphic designer on it. Why did their mother name them both names beginning in M when it’s late and I’m loopy?
I’m sick of me at this point. I’m gonna shut up and watch Little Buddha now. See ya next blog entry.

Anyone catch that Three Stooges movie on AMC tonight, had Micheal Chiclets in it as Curly? It seemed really good! He was pretty good at making the Curly noises, if it was him.

rebecca: My friends and I call the Discovery Health Channel "Birth Control TV" because it works that way. The only better birth control I can think of is my best friend’s mom having a baby when we were 15 and telling us WAY too much.
Whenever I go to the movie theatre, I feel like taking the cardboard displays. I should one day as it’s not like they’re going to need it after the film opens.
I’d like to see Cheap Seats, as I think the Sklar brothers are funny, but I don’t get that channel. Crazy ass Canada. You so crazy.
Shows To Watch For All The Wrong Reasons:
-Dance 360 (If You Got Served was a television show, this would be it. I laugh so hard every time I catch the episodes involving little kids. It appears as though they’re competing to see whose dance looks more like spasms.)
-The Maury Povich Show (I watched this and ended up as the father of one of the babies. I’m never watching it again.)
-California Dreams (Every time that Jake guy "rocked out" on the electric guitar, I wanted to murder him. Sly Winkle was okay…and Kelly Packard was there. That made up for it.)

Cheaps Seats is pretty great, especially when Mike and the Bots show up.
Well I just got done with watching the Marathon. I can’t remember the last time I devoted so much consecutive time to a show that wasn’t on a complete season DVD. The Scrabble episode had me in stiches.
So here I am, it’s 6 AM, I believe I’ve got an ear infection and no one has posted here for an hour. Who’s up for some Mega Man X2?
Ghosted by Dohopoki @ 08/07/2005 6:04 AM EDT
Man, I hate being on different time schedules as you guys.
Great score there Manimal. Your description of your night is pretty similar to mine, except the wife was doing both scrapbooking/lesson plans while watching me input names on NCAA Football 06. Good times, good times.
One reply in between announcing MMX2 and beating MMX2. Frankly, I’m disappointed with me.

I’ve been watching The Golden Palace for a bit now….
1) It’s not AS bad as I’ve read, nor is the writing AS bad as even the cast suggested in retrospective specials. It’s nowhere near as funny or smart as GG, but it has its moments.
2) Cheech and the Boogie Nights dude are likable enough for me not to hate them just because they’re not Dorothy. Not a big fan of the kid so far.
3) Of the remaining girls, Sophia took the biggest hit in the transition. At times she seems more like a character based on Sophia than Sophia. Sophia Sophia Sophia. Rose is charged to go at it sliggghtly more straight. Of the three, I’d consider Blanche the pack leader.
4) The revised GG musical stings are funky.

Man, I wish I stayed up a little later if I had known that HALLOWEEN III, NANNY 911, and THE 3 STOOGES would be topics of conversation.
1. Disgruntled Spam hit the nail on the head with the "was it really wise to label this a HALLOWEEN movie?" Obviously, Carpenter and Co. were trying to go a different direction which is fine but I think most audience members back in ‘83 took out some of their frustrations on the movie due to that fact. The song is definitely worth the price of admission because it is repeated 152 times during the course of the movie. I was going to make it a tradition to watch that movie every year during the HALLOWEEN season but, sadly, I think I only did that once. Maybe I will reinstate it.
2. Lori, I didnt think I had a guilty pleasure until Rebecca mentioned NANNY 911. I hate myself for watching it but I come back for more every week.
3. Kidneyboy, the 3 STOOGES movie is well acted but way too short. Especially when one bears in mind that there were 6 (almost 7) stooges all together. Shemp’s death only gets a drive-by mention. I am a Curly man like everyone else in the universe but Shemp was a Howard brother too and deserves better.
