My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I'm sure you've all been waiting with baited breath to find out what I thought about Sith. Yeheh. Gotta be honest: I didn't love it, and for the first few minutes after leaving the theater, I wasn't even sure I liked it. Truth be told, I think I was just overly spoiled. I'd read every last aspect about the movie prior to seeing it. Hell, I'd seen stills from every major scene, pretty much frame by frame. The movie had no chance of surprising me, and in many ways, it never had a chance to win me over: Having only seen the stills, I had weeks and months to make up in my own head how the scenes were going to play out. That rarely works in favor of the actual product.

Which isn't to say that the product isn't completely without blame. My complaints aren't original so I won't repeat them for the millionth time, but fuck man, I can't get past 'em either. Save for ol' Palpsy, I just couldn't shake the belief that nobody onscreen really wanted to be there -- an idea I willingly out as being unfair, since it's not like Hayden and Ewan didn't give it as much as they could. I dunno. Obviously, I'd much prefer to be in LOVE with the movie, and plan to see it again soon. Maybe my opinion will swap. I loved Attack of the Clones when it debuted, hated it a few weeks after. I'm hoping for the reverse effect with this one.

But beyond all that, it's easily the most literally exciting of the prequels. I dug the entire "Order 66" sequence, one of the only parts of the entire prequel trilogy that got a genuine emotional response outta me. Palpatine's various freakouts were also a plus. Bleh. Gimme a few weeks...hopefully I'll come around.

In other news, the reason you didn't get a new article this past weekend is because I was out of town -- so that means you get a, drumroll, trip report this weekend. And how.

Muppet, glad you got to see it. BTW, are you in the military in Korea?

Check out this link:

http://www.supershadow.com/starwars/lucas/

Specifically under the may 15th header and the question about Lucas’ unhappiness about how ESB and ROTJ turned out. I;ve always supported Lucas, regadless of what other think. However, based on that answer, if it really is him answering the questions, then he’s really nothing more than a pompous windbag, and the idea he has of himself in his delusional little mind is disgusting….

"Actor’s director…"

Apparently someone forgot to tell Anakin/Padme about that….

XGalvatronX- Thanks for the support! Man, it sucked waiting a week longer than the rest of the world, but it was worth it. Nah, I’m not in the military- I am teaching english at a hagwon here in Incheon.

I tell ya, the Korean movie theater experience is different, what with the free dried squid you get with your popcorn combo, and the fact that its all assigned seating, just like at a sports event or something…

Chestnuts roasted by Muppet Baby @ 05/26/2005 2:22 PM

Are you joking about the dried squid or not? I’m not sure which answer I would prefer. I think I would prefer it to be true, for it is good to know somewhere, someone is in a movie theater eating dried squid.

Chestnuts roasted by jhnnywalkr @ 05/26/2005 2:33 PM

I bet the squid waited so long to see the movie, they dried out in line and were scooped up to be added to the snack foods. Just more victims of SW-mania.

anakin is no more of a little bitch than luke skywalker was. the acting is "bad" because the jedi are all a bunch of stiffs. theres no han solo type in these movies and everyone acts more uptight than the cast of law and order. true star wars fans look past this. star wars is way bigger than the acting in a movie. this aint the academy awards.

Chestnuts roasted by jeremiah @ 05/26/2005 3:03 PM

Maybe is was some of Admiral Akbar’s peeps who waited too long in line.

Chestnuts roasted by jhnnywalkr @ 05/26/2005 3:13 PM

You know, I just now saw this film last night, and I think that, despite all our debates as to whether it was a great movie or a wretched one, we can all agree that something magical happened in that theater: Hayden Christensen got most of his limbs lopped off and then HE CAUGHT ON FIRE. And nobody can ever take that away from us.

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 05/26/2005 3:23 PM

Still have yet to see the movie…

God this sucks.

Perhaps I should just fly to Korea to see it and crash at Muppet Baby’s pad. Not sure how Mrs. M would take it though, you know, being pregnant and all.

What tickles me is that when you say you like the prequels, someone makes the claim that we’re accepting Lucas’s table scraps, or anything similar. Well, no, no we’re not. I’m a huge Evil Dead fan, does that mean I take Sam Raimi’s tablescraps? I mean, it’s HARDLY a perfect film either, but hell.

And yes, the Prequels should’ve been made. As they are, they need work, but that doesn’t make them any less Star Wars than the other three, no matter how you feel on the situation. Just repeat to yourself "But I wanna go to Toshi Station to pick up some power converters!!" over and over in your head and you’ll realize, each trilogy has plenty of flaws. And they’re both damn enjoyable in their own rights.

That "NOOOOOOOOOO!"?
Priceless.

Chestnuts roasted by Ekkostar @ 05/26/2005 8:22 PM

Karma, I don’t think loving the movie and scrutinizing the movie are exclusive…otherwise I say "word" to your post. You’re quite the diplomat (and assuredly a better one than Senator Binks). A big LOL also to jeremiah, jhnnywalkr and John.
Yeti, I disagree that the prequels don’t serve the storylines of the OT. Maybe I’m the only person who thought it was totally awesome to find out that Palps snagged Anakin with the exact same trick that he almost got Luke with, maybe I’m the only person who was interested to see the workings of the dying Old Republic, maybe I’m the only person who was thrilled to see Obi Wan’s effort and eventual failure as Anakin’s teacher….I definitely doubt I am the only one, but even if I was I’d say making one moviegoer have a really great time seeing three movies (even if later viewings proved less impressive) (even if some of the other moviegoers don’t have quite as good a time), giving one moviegoer a good popcorn experience is plenty of reason to make a movie. In other words, just because George Lucas might have to regret not making every single person who saw his movies happy doesn’t mean he has to regret making them at all.

Until Lucas falls in the richest bastards list, I doubt we will see anymore Star Wars Episodes.

We know Hollywood has run out of ideas other than remakes, prequels, or sequels.

Does anyone want prequels or sequels, or remakes to any other movies?

Like say Police Academy? Friday the 13th? Nightmare on Elm Street? Major League? E.T.? Home Alone?

honestly I am burnt out on star wars…..spent WAYYYYYY to much time on theforce.net scouring message boards……man i thought I was a dork until i looked at that shit….don’t get me wrong, I love star wars but not nearly as much as some people….must maintain last bit of sanity…..

Chestnuts roasted by phunqsauce @ 05/27/2005 3:52 AM

squee, I agree that the two (love and scrutinize) are not mutually exclusive. I appreciate the nod to my diplomatic skillz (though i’m trying to figure out just how big of a feat it is to out-do Binks). =)

Best One-Liner of the Year Award goes to….

JEDOC!!!

thanks for the laugh Jedoc!

I have seen this movie 3 times now and I have to admit the first time I saw it I was stuck on the dialogue more then anything. The 2nd time I saw it it actually doesn’t clunk as much. The 3rd time I was just absorbing all of the events happening in the back ground. It’s funny but reading the book based on the screen play really fills in a lot of the holes that make ROTS plot kind of iffy. I can understand why he had to cut them but still.. I think that hands down the best performance is from R2 !!

Chestnuts roasted by Canadaka @ 05/27/2005 10:34 AM

Sister-in-law tells me R2 kicks much ass and has a great comedic moment. (R2 will be along any moment and he’ll turn off the force field) So, that’s something else to look forward to. And Hayden catching on fire? It ranks up there with watching Leo sink to the bottom of the sea in Titanic.

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 05/27/2005 11:33 AM

Jingle bell, jingle bell, Padme is dead, Anakin’s burnt, and Yoda’s in self-imposed ex-ile. Laughing and dancing, in the frosty air. What a fine time, its the right time… to get rid of the XMAS that time forgot… A jingle bell time… Merry Christmas everyone! May the force be with you! This is getting as bad as the Star Wars Holiday Special.

I just read this and Mace Windu is a distant cousin of Lando Calression im serious i read it online.

Chestnuts roasted by Guess Work @ 05/27/2005 2:05 PM

I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on the leaked workprint copy available on torrent sites. It’s surprisingly good quality. Man, the people who released that must be doing some serious hiding out trying to avoid the wrath of lucas. Heres a link for more info on it here

Chestnuts roasted by d-roc @ 05/27/2005 4:17 PM

I think it’s cool when people on the internet write out dialogue they think is funny. It’s even better when they do it one line. I always imagine the nerdiest voice I can reading those things aloud. Awesome.

Oh, anyways, I think the new Star Wars movie is the best of the prequel trilogy but that’s just king of shit mountain. I thought a lot of it was pretty funny, though.

With all the Star Wars talk and the extended Chirstmas theme for the site, how about a Star Wars Holiday Special review? Or has it been done alreay?
