04/26/2005: The Growing Beast Experiment Rages On!

Thanks for all the feedback on that House article! It’s not quite over yet, though. This weekend, a vaguely related part two. No, it won’t be more descriptions of dead bugs or graveyards, but rather a rundown of the insane gamut of “collectibles” picked up at a crickety old gift shop near Delhi. Loads of post-worthy stuff, trust me. To give you an idea, the first things I saw after walking in the place were WWF loot bags from 1985. The last thing I saw? Well…you’ll see.

The Growing Beast Experiment rages on! The culprits (note the new additions, like the heart) have been growing all out of sorts — the combination of less water and nearby extended family members certainly seems to halt their usual capabilities of self biggie-sizing, though it’s interesting to see which of the creatures manage to kick dust at the pack, storming forward like the great leaders of wartime history. Example: Frankenstein is totally kicking Dracula’s green ass. More on this as it develops, but to be honest, the story doesn’t seem to be growing towards anything too interesting. My experiment’s a big failure.

Just when I thought CBS was turning into Sci-Fi Channel 2.0 (1, 2), they go and stoop in a different direction:
Anjelica Huston directed what?

OK, so I’m a late poster, as I have often been lately. Anyway, I’d like to say that Matt may be doing a great job with his latest articles, but that doesn’t make up for one little thing. I don’t need to tell you all what this is because everyone here already knows.

Matt, change this thing now, please. Otherwise, all the newcomers are gonna get thrown off and think this is a you-know-what site. Er…I mean…um…not THAT kind of "you-know-what," or the kind that ends up in the toilet. Besides, that misconception is already drawn from the name of this site. Anyway…where was I going with this? Dammit, I lost my train of thought!

Nate saw something shiny.
Anybody else notice how Leonard Nimoy is starting to sound like John Huston? He could re-dub all of Gandalf’s lines in the Rankin-Bass Hobbit shows and no-one would notice.
Also of note, John C. Riley sounds like Mr. Jinx.

Kevin Smith’s artistic integrity is questionable at best these days (gone are the days of "Chasing Amy"), but he’s still a hardcore fanboy and one of the most ardent critics of the Star Wars series, so I suppose if he says Episode III rocks, then it might just be the prequel we’ve been waiting for. I won’t be reading his chock-full-of-spoilers review because I want to see the flick with eyes as virginal as Padme’s senatorial honey-pot, but I suppose we all know how this one will wrap up in the end.

P.S. In a Vanity Fair interview, George Lucas was grilled about his apparent amputation-fetish. When asked why people are always getting limbs hacked off in his films, Lucas replied: "That’s what happens when you play with swords." What a dick.

Ghosted by The Yeti @ 04/30/2005 12:53 PM EDT

Is that really that dickish? That IS what happens when you play with swords. Besides, if you really want to see amputation run rampant just watch Kill Bill or Carnivale and see what true obsession is.
Nate, you’re always talking about how busy you are. Matt is busy too. If he only has a given amount of energy that he can devote to the site nowadays I’d much rather it be channelled into actual updates over a site redesign.
If anybody is curious, Hitchhiker’s Guide was pretty good. If you’re not already a fan, go see it to get a tiny taste of what’s in the books. If you’re already a fan, definitely go see it for the good bits (Deep Thought was neat and I really liked Mos Def as Ford) and try not to cringe at some of the liberties they took in other bits.

Gamera is Daiei Studios.

The only obession visible in "Kill Bill" is Tarantino’s foot fetish. The films are outstanding, but the man’s got issues…

SQUEE,

Nah. I have good students that like me too much. Plus, most of them consider my stuff beneath them :)

Hey guys. Great freekin’ web site. I stumbled apon it trying to find that new star wars episode 3 spoof and found this. I love it. I’ve just spent 3 hours watching commercials and reading all of you articles. I can’t wait for more. The only question I have is: Do you know where I can find a copy of that Garbage Pail Kid movie? I only saw it once on video in 1987 because it never played in the theater near me. I just wanted to know. Keep up the good work and I’ll be checking back often.

Welcome aboard, Punk! Don’t bring up the Christmas design and everything will be fine.

Use the search on the main page to find my review of the GPK movie. Good news: It’s coming out on DVD very soon, if it hasn’t already. Don’t expect many bonus features, but yes, you’ll be able to see Valerie Vomit live up to her name real soon.

Happy May Matt!

Thanx, kid nicky!
Now that you said it, I remember Joel and the ‘Bots shouting "DAIEI!" at the beginning of each Gamera movie.

Can’t wait for part 2 of the House trip. I knew you stopped at one of those places, they sounded too good to pass up. I wish I could see some shots of the Mom & Pop video store, those never seem to disappoint.

As for the GBK movie, I had it on VHS a few years back. I think I traded it for something or left it somewhere, though.

Ghosted by Matt(#2?) @ 05/07/2005 4:37 PM EDT

Ahem.. that’s GPK. Now I’m wondering if I was thinking "bag" or was it just that the similar P and B sounds ran through my mind too quickly to get it right. Gah.

Hmm…I say after House Part II, we get a House Part III, and give us the houses haunted history, and explore the graveyard, basment, etc…and take lots of photos…who knows…a ghost may just POP UP!

MUHAHAHAHcough
