My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

Mooshagaloogapork.

I’ve only recently started watching Carnivale (by recently, I mean as in the week before the season finale), but I spent a day out sick from work yesterday sitting through the entire second season. In what began as an attempt to stay awake for an afternoon conference call that couldn’t be missed, I passed on all the rest my fever was begging for to watch an awesome midget get a rubdown from a scorpion lady, among other things, I guess for thirteen hours straight.

What a fantastic show, I can’t believe I stubbornly passed on watching it all this time. I won’t bother detailing it, but I’d say watching any two successive episodes would turn just about anyone into a fan. Give it a shot.

I’m back at work now, feeling very clammy and as if I shouldn’t cough on anyone. On the plus side, the giant Toys ‘R’ Us across the street had an equivalently giant street sign showing an M&M character in a Darth Vader costume. I couldn’t make sense of it during the groggy walk to my building, but all signs point to a TRU run during my lunch break. I wonder if I can land myself a Darth Tater.

Okay, I better get to work before Dora bursts through the wall and yells at me for setting a bad example. Might as well do a

Aah, the wonders of dem silly Simpsons: definaately the one where Lisa’s tooth creates life, and she’s shrunk down to their level by Bart… Also, the Shinning. (Isn’t it Shining? "What, Boy, d’ye want us te get sued??!")

Ie, Halloween specials roool.

Missed you guys: getting a internet-cafe fix. And STILL the Christmas lights? You do know it’s April Fools Day, Matt? Maybe the Darth M&M wuz product of your fevered brain? Kidding! Don’t throw me ou…aaargh.

I’ve always been a sucker for the Halloween episodes. I especially like the short where the school starts making children for food. Fattening them up and the giant blender etc.

That one just always sticks out above the rest in my mind.

Another really great one is Skinner’s Sense of Snow…my wife’s favorite…

"Okay nibbles…chew through my ballsack."

I also love when Flanders tells Homer his car has cruise control and Homer then yells into the dashboard, "To the school!" awesome…

The episode where they go to Canada to buy perscription drugs and then smuggle them across the border.

The best part is Homer wearing a Sombrero thinking he is going to mexico

Good God people, how can so many of you people like any recent episodes? It’s been firmly established that the Simpsons were in their prime through years 3-8 and anything after season 10 is HORRIBLE! The only people who like recent episodes are the same people who had hundreds of jokes and subtle references go over their heads during the early seasons and now simply laugh at whatever stupid situation Homer get into in these recent episodes.

Chestnuts roasted by Fan @ 04/01/2005 3:21 PM

Fan,
jeesh…relax..I do know a lot of people that like recent ones as well as the prime years. I, myself, can agree that the Simpsons has past its prime, but that some episodes can still make me laugh…the one where Homer made a video for Lisa in the mall stands out…when he says her favorite books are "magazines" and her best friend is Maggie.

"Maggie, you’re her best friend. You go talk to her."

Give us all a break…and just enjoy the thread…

My favorite is A Star Is Burns, where the town holds a film festival and Jay Sherman from The Critic guest stars.

Oh, and Mitch Hedberg died…

I would also like to comment on what fan said. I’ve been watching the simpsons since they were on the tracey ullman show and I still enjoy it to this day and I’ve always been one to pick up on the "subtle references".

Tetsu, Carnivale is on HBO on Sundays at 10 pm. The second season just ended, and now we’re waiting to find out if it will be picked up for a third. We should know by June, and if the show comes back it will probably air sometime in 2006.
As for what it’s about? An awesome midget, just like Matt said. Actually, the story takes place in the middle of the dust bowl during the Great Depression. One branch of the story follows a traveling carnival, headed by the aforementioned awesome midget, while the other branch follows a preacher in California with a growing following. It’s sort of like Gabriel Garcia Marquez meets Grapes of Wrath, but it’s also not really like anything else you’ve ever seen.

Thanks.

Too bad, I don’t get HBO, though. That sounds like the only show on that channel I’d like.(I hate, Sopranos, Sex and the City, and Oz, and yes, I have seen them, at other people’s houses). Is there a VHS/DVD release yet, by any chance?

And, I too am saddened by Mitch Hedberg’s death.

Fave Simpsons episode ever has to be the Treehouse of Horror (I forget the number) with these three parts:

1) Homer clones himself. I love the dialogue:

Vendor: "But I must warn you, its webbing is a mesh of comfort…and evil."
Homer: "You had me at comfort!"

And the part where he’s blowing away the clones that remember the way home? Priceless.

2) Billy the Kid, Frank and Jesse James, the Sundance Kid, and Kaiser Wilhelm are resurrected and terrorize Springfield.

3) Dr. Hibbert creates man-animal hybrids.

Dr. Hibbert: "Now be careful, he may try to slobber on your crotch."
Homer: "Eh, I’ve been around Scotsmen before."

And by the way, Nate, my favorite SB e-mail has to be dragon. You can’t compete with the "Trogdor" song at the end, and the fact that Strong Mad is carving "DAGRON" into the table is brilliant…absolutely brilliant.

I really don’t think the new episodes are all that bad, although they do kinda overdue the cheesy gags, the ‘All I know is that my testicles wont fit in my underwear!’ line kinda took the cake. Although for some reason besides all the halloween specials I’ve liked the one were Nsync were on it, and there was LT Smash and stuff, that one was awesome. The one were Homer works for that company that ends up being evil, though I can’t remember much about that one. I love Radioactive man, the Bongo comic adaptions of him are really good! I wouldn’t call myself a big Simpsons fan, though watching reruns doesnt usually get boring… I seem to enjoy watching Family Guy and Futurama moreso, though…

Okay I’m out, and I’m also ben-sevenfold.

Favourite quotes? There’s just so many to choose from but my top two….

Homer to Marge: We’re gettin’ drive through & doing it twice

and

Ralf should be president

I can’t believe I forgot Deep Space Homer! The James Taylor moments are classic! "Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground…uh…sweet dreams and flying machines flying safely through the air."

My favorite Troy McClure line:
"You may remember me from such educational films as Alice Doesn’t Live Anymore…"

My favorite Ralph line:
"Hello, Principal Skinner. Hello, Supernintendo Chalmers."

I also love it when all the faces of PBS come after Homer because he doesn’t make good on his pledge. Betty White’s great in that show too.

ARRGH! I could go on all day!

I have to agree with "22 Short Films About Springfield." The episode just reminds me so much of the film Slacker. One of the few Simpsons episodes from more recent times that doesn’t make me wish I was watching Futurama or Family Guy.
The Pulp Fiction bit still sticks out in my mind also. "Heh. Shakes. Don’t know what you’re getting." Genious.
