01/30/2005: C-3P0 reads X-E!
So, guess who read that article on C-3P0’s Cereal?
C-3P0. No, really. I got an e-mail from the guy who runs Anthony Daniels’ site, telling me how happy he was to see that another soul had a box of the stuff, and how reading the article opened the gates for plenty of memories from the commercial shoot. At first I wasn’t too sure if the man himself read it, but hey, go check out his site. He did! Prittttty cool.
Well, that’s two. I got to meet Harrison Ford under fairly intimate circumstances at the junket for K-19, but between my well-hidden awestruckityness and the fact that there were four other interviewers in the room, it didn’t amount to much more than introductions and a couple of questions about a movie nobody went to see. And I had this really bad pinkish red hair thing going on, so I was all antsy. Still, I was sitting three feet from Han Solo — like Greedo.
Admittedly, if there’s anything worse than starfucking, it’s starwarsfucking. But I am pretty humbled and so wanting to reuse my C-3P0 Play-Doh mold. Maybe me and Anthony can head down to PS-166 and shoot some hoops.
Just got done on a freelance project that required watching 20 hours of a television show that must remain nameless for now. I love the show, but combing through 20 hours of anything is a pretty damning project. I will now celebrate the big finish by atrophying for the few hours I have left before yet another glorious workweek. Rumors persist that I may get a full day off in 2012, but I’ll probably waste that day writing a tribute to Hordak or something.

Anthony Daniels has a rather bizarre sense of humor, which can be attested to from the columns he used to do for Star Wars Insider,so I’d think you two would get along very well Matt.

"And I had this really bad pinkish red hair thing going on, so I was all antsy." so awesome
That reminds me of my most favorite XE blog post, ever. It was when Matt went to Staples and got ultra nervous because people were getting really pumped about Crystal Pepsi. He mentions 3P0’s in that blog post, too. So it’s kinda relevant.

My Life in a nutshell
Sorry I haven¡¦t posted in awhile gang. I would have posted, but I didn¡¦t want to steal the baby thunder from Mr. and Mrs. Manimal and of course, sweet little E.C. Also, I was feeling depressed about hearing so many of my 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines brethren perish in that helicopter crash.
Well, since Manimal spilled the beans on his life story, here goes mine¡K
I came thundering into this world on 7 September 1979. Adopted, first round pick in the 1979 Draft. I¡¦m a free agent next year so I¡¦m looking to get the fat contract. Oh wait, I¡¦m married, nevermind. Moved from Houston to Bay City (read: bumpkin country) when my dad was forced to retire.
Signed up for the Marines in the summer of 1997, but my dad died of cancer in September, so I went to crap, going from 200 lbs to 240. Went into the Marines in 1998 to get my college education money, see the world, kill people, etc. Well, 2/3 ain¡¦t bad if you count going to Hawaii (worst place you can possibly be stationed), Korea (shout out Muppet Baby!) and Okinawa seeing the world. Okinawa is also great because that is where I stumbled upon WrestleCrap, Homestarunner, and this great website that is X-E. It¡¦s funny, I suggest X-E to everyone I meet, but by saying the full name of the site, most people give me a disgusted look like, ¡§how could you direct me to a porn site?¡¨
I went to the University of Houston for two years, the last as a Resident Assistant. My major was and still is Communications-Journalism, but at this point, I just want a degree. Labor Day 2003 I met Heather and fell in love at first site. Proposed to her on Christmas Day 2003. Married here on March 6 (more like eloped) and again on June 12th, which begs the question female X-E¡¦rs, what date do I eat the cake and what date do I get my beautiful wife a gift?
In May 2004, wife and I received a shock as we were headed to our wedding shower. She had been accepted to teach overseas to American military kids with DoDDs. She was a graduate of DoDDs and it just so happened she got accepted close to her old stomping grounds here in Germany.
Watching a Packers game on AFN on December 1, 2004 I was greeted by my wife and a EPT stick. I mean yes, this is technically my third child too, but I made this one from scratch while I inherited the other two in a corporate takeover.
So now I¡¦m just a regular house husband, taking care of the little one until the other little one arrives. In my spare time (when I¡¦m not yelling at them to clean their room), I attend online courses with University of Maryland (hope to graduate in 2006, perhaps teach history at a local high school and coach football) and I play football (quarterback) for the Giessen Golden Dragons, an American Football Club team here.
If anyone has great ways to train newborns in the ways of the 80¡¦s please let me know. ƒº
So that¡¦s me in a nutshell X-E family. Feel free to steal my identity if you like, but let me tell ya, I¡¦m broke. Have fun.
Special Thanks goes to:
Matt (First and foremost, for having this site and having a blog for ordinary people to blather on about)
Trajeal (My dear, your wonderful links keep me entertained and enlightened for hours. Also, your advice for raising kids is taken to heart, its just so hard to train them)
Muppet Baby (For making me miss Korea, I mean there are some good things there right?)
Manimal (For sharing the wonderful moments of your first born with us. My wife loved the photo, but she thought you named your daughter after a pastry. I think you can forgive her, I mean she is pregnant, hormones ya know?)
Semper Fidelis,
Erik Majorwitz

Wow that is amazing. Beyond cool. AD’s column was always the greatest part of Star Wars Insider. I love the fact that it’s really him inside the suit for the commercial. Rereading the 3P0’s article I’m seeing a couple of pics that didn’t show up for me last time (go figure) and methinks I see the second pair of uncensored nips in X-E history.

I went to Target today and I found a rather interesting thing, Chocolate Lucky Charms. Is this new or did I miss something? I was intrigued, so I bought a box. Tomorrow I will find out if it’s a good Count Chocula knockoff. It’s already losing some points because the marshmallows aren’t chocolate, they’re the ordinary ones from regular Lucky Charms.

Matt, you da man! No…Star Wars…YO-DA MAN!!! Maybe if I write an article about Mr. T Cereal, Mr. T will e-mail me. "Hey sucka! Drink yo milk!"
The closest I got to staying in touch with a celebrity was with a guy called Glenn Shadix. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, he played Otho is Beetlejuice and he did the voice of the Mayor in Nightmare Before Christmas. Anyway, in my freshman year of high school, we watched a cheap 1980’s film called "The Necklace" based on some story by Guy de Moupassant (sp?) that we happened to be reading, and he had a brief scene as a jeweler or something. Anyway, some kid in our class, not me, yelled out "THAT’S THE GUY FROM BEETLEJUICE!" and so at a collectible show in North Jersey back in 2001, I asked Glenn about that role. Apparently, it was his first filmed acting gig EVER and he had NEVER seen it. So I checked with my teacher from high school, got the info about the video and was able to hook him up with a copy. So that was pretty cool.
And no one cares.
C-3PO… in the flesh? Or, would that be in the gold metallic suit? Whichever you choose… it’s remarkable not just that he had his very own ceral, and kids everywhere were eating it… but that he also reads X-E! In-freaking-sane.
Hmmm, what show has Matt been forced to watch. Something he likes, but not too much. Rocko’s Modern Life, maybe? It’s freelance, so maybe it’s not Nick-related. Family Guy?

trajeal @ 01/31/2005 12:42 PM EST
Okay…I give up. Matt, what do you "do"? I’m assuming you’re a writer but I don’t know more than that. I’m in Canada, is there anywhere I would be able to find your non-xe work? (I’m going with the assumption that you are hilarious at all times).

gaiter_girl @ 01/31/2005 12:45 PM EST
I have a magazine that has a interview with Mr. Daniels in it, and his memories of wearing the suit on set. He liked how the hardcore SW fans rationalized why C3PO has a silver leg. In fact, I hear he’s one of the most laid-back, if not the most laid-back, members of the original cast members.

Matt,
Congratulations on hearing from the man himself!! I thought of you and the C-3PO cereal over the weekend. My boyfriend and I were watching the DVD of the Twilight Zone episodes that were made in the 80s and there’s one episode about Melinda Dillon having the power to stop time, etc. and she’s in the supermarket going down the cereal aisle and I bursted out C-3PO CEREAL!!! My boyfriend had to rewind the DVD and see the box for himself. Best scene in the whole episode: seeing all those old cereal boxes.

Duuuuude. You know we’ll demand that Hordak tribute in seven years, right?
I have seen those curent SW cereals, but somehow, they don’t seem as inspired as C3PO’s. Not as much heart, ironically. Or not.

Hey Darth, I think that’s neat. In fact, it’s damn cool that you were able to get him a copy of a movie he was in but that he’d never seen. (I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that Glenn Shadix also played a mean city councilman on Carnivale. Though I must admit that I screamed "OTHO!!" the first time he appeared onscreen, just like your classmate ;))
I can’t get over how effing rad it is that Anthony Daniels himself read the tribute. C3P0 reads the same X-E as you and me! I remember reading his articles in Insider describing the shooting for Episode 1 and being filled with tremendous excitement and anticipation for how great it was going to be. Aaah, to be young and innocent again…

The fact that you met Harrison Ford for that stupid movie is hilarous. I’d probably ask him how he feels about Greedo shooting first. But then I’d feel really bad about myself afterword.

Mmmmm, twenty hours of a show - can you imagine having to do a montage for a flashback show from … oh, i dunno … Full House (Arrgh Arrgh), and then being told … ehhh, do it again, I don’t like those clips. Aaargh!
Anyway, I have a Robotech Colour-in Activity Book, Matt, from the first series, so lotsa mazes involving Veritech fighters, Rick Hunter and Skull-leader plane, SDF1 shots, Breetai and Exxor, Minmay even I think. Want some scans? Do ya do ya? With the snazzy cover too, natch. Hours of fun. With "Escort Rick Hunter through the maze while avoiding the dreaded Zentraedi pod fighter" Pages.
I’ve already told people that C3P0 reads the same website I do! I am so proud of Matt, and his excellent articles.:)
Being from Canada orignally, I don’t think many people here would know the famous people I’ve met- mainly hockey players and Canadian musicians.
Now that I’m in Korea, I’m pretty sure I could get on TV myself- they have entire TV channels with poor English suckers trying to teach kids English through the magic of poor TV programming. I could be a star!

Hey Matt, if you still read this site, roll on over to 46th b/w 5th and 6th. There’s a comic book shop on the north side of the street (near McAnn’s) with a giant plush spidey in the window. The area is also LOADED with 99 cent stores (which is weird, I think, for midtown) with hundreds of treasures just waiting to be discovered.

Surpise, surprise! Sis is here! At home! About 8:00 last night, she called her husband and said she was in Maine! Said she’d call after she got to base and then she’d give him more details about how to get her stuff for coming home. 2:00am rolls around and another call: come get her, and bring the kids. For whatever security reasons, a lot of units have been brought in under cover of night, but I kind of understand that. Brother-in-law and sons get there, and a lot of families were there waiting. seems they knew way ahead of time, and for whatever reasons, we were left out of the loop. Both Ma and Brother-in-law are going to look into it. They know who to ask and how to ask. I’m just glad Sis is home. She’s got today at home to rest up and such, then back to Ft. Sill for debreifing, paperwork, and whatever. Later, we’re going to have a small pow-wow for her return. Not only is she considered a veteran by the government, she’s a returning warrior in the eyes of tribal elders. She is going to stop by this little dog-and-pony show later today, and I just can’t wai- *KA-SPLOOSH!*

All metal and moving springs…really a quality job. I guess the only diff. between the Hasbro one and the Takara one is some battle damage markings on the chest of the Hasbro Prime. The Takara one doesn’t have them.

Happy birthday! Many happy returns! Don’t party too hearty, unless you really want to, in which case party like it’s 1999 and Y2K is coming to kill us all.

H is for Hordak
A is for "A.C. Slater"
or Artie, his pet lizard
P is for Peanut (mystery bamboo)
P is for the notorious "Photog"
Y is for…uh….um…I’m sick of doing this already. It was ’sposed to say "Happy Birthday Matt" and bring giddiness and joy to the birthday boy!

Incase anybody cares, my highschool choir teacher dated Harrison Ford when they were in highschool. I mean, this was probably almost 50 years ago, but still pretty freaking cool. I can’t remember all the details about what went on, and if there was any sort of break-up, but I know that they were still friends for a while, and she did have a Han Solo-esque glossy of him signed to her sitting on her desk. I think she had seen him at some highschool reunions in the last 2 decades. Sad part is, that’s about as close to fames as I’ll ever be.

The only Star Wars person I’ve met was Carrie Fisher. She was signing her book after a reading, so I figured that it was cool and all to get an autograph, but seemed really put out by it. As in she did not look up when I said hello and then she shoved it back at me after signing and almost knocked something off the table. Don’t stay to sign the fucking things then, ya know?!?!?
