Sideshow, they make a great Jason(s) no?

Geez, you've gotta get to checkin' widdese. Sideshow Collectibles has graced the world with a shitload of amazing 12" dolls from the Friday the 13th series, and normally this wouldn't be that big of a deal for me, but they've gone ahead and made dolls representing all of the different Jasons! Well, some of them at least. My favorite just for the sheer "I can't believe they made it" factor is Jason Voorhees as he appeared in Part II, complete with uncharacteristic large tuft of hair and an outfit that made Farmer Brown run around screaming about someone stealing his church clothes. And the sack mask! Other dolls in the line follow suit with being awesome, particularly the version from Part VI, perfectly encapsulating Jason's sudden progression from mangled man to Zsanus, king of the zombie lizards of Jupiter 9. By the way, this isn't a paid ad or anything. I don't think Sideshow would pay to lend promotion to figures that are limited editions already mostly sold out. Sorry if I had you all excited. Most of 'em are gone, available only to those brave enough to scour eBay with twice the original retail cost in their Paypal accounts.

LATE EDIT: Congrats to site pal and blogger "Manimal" on his first born!

Yeah, Traj, there are two Haim vids. The one that Matt reviewed is the one I have. The one you found on eBay, I have no idea. I never heard of that one before. All I can say is that Matt’s review is spot-on…but there is so much more to be experienced by actually seeing the video!! Yowza.

I am also planning on watching the movie tonight. Or at least taping it, so I can watch it later. My g/f wants to watch it too, so I might just wait until she gets home. I kind of like David Arquette, but you are right about the Manson eyes. He’s got that stare down pretty nicely.

Honestly, I like that the Christmas layout is still up. It’s the middle of one of the coldest winters I remember in a damn long while, so a "Christmas" that never ends makes everything a bit more tolerable, especially considering I shall have yet another lonely Valentine’s Day.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Oscar nominees? I was surprised that Shark Tale got the token third nomination slot for Best Animated Feature instead of The Polar Express, but we all know that The Incredibles will take it all this year, and it bloody well better, since it’s the best animated film I’ve seen in ages. I was disappointed that Shaun of the Dead, Napoleon Dynamite, and especially The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou didn’t get nominated for anything, but, realistically, I didn’t think they were going to get nominated for any Oscars outside of the parallel universe of my pipedreams. The Aviator is the best "conventional" Oscar film I’ve seen in ages, so I wouldn’t mind seeing that take most of the awards for which it’s nominated. I want to see at least Sideways before the end of February, though.

Hey Matt, I just read the new toyfare issue and I have to say that I was pretty happy to see the Transformers represented and given the respect they should have gotten.

One point though, on the Best Playability section (one section you sadly didn’t contribute in), the Rnergon Shockblast figure does not have his back panels out. I should know this as I am holding mine right now, who happens to be one of my favorite figures in the Energon line right now. (the others beng Dreadwing, the recolored Mirage because he’s the only one we got here in LI, and Megatron)

Oh and i’m an Aries for all you wondering lady type geeks out there ^_~

Merry Christmas! It’s the 25th!

Ok, has anyone watched Riding the Bullet? All I have to say is – Woah. I am so used to having anything even remotely freaky spoiled by a show’s trailer, but for this movie, I was pleasantly surprised by a few things. One major thing was, even though this was a made for tv movie, there was a lot of swearing. Swearing, that for the most part, was bleeped out. Except once. The part where Alan is standing in the road, talking to "himself" (ok, that doesn’t really break it down – he spends half of the movie talking to himself), "himself" says to Alan, "Do you think you’re fucking invincible?" W/ no bleeping. Maybe they missed it, maybe they wanted to drop one F bomb, I don’t know. I do know that ‘fuck’ was said plenty of other times and promptly bleeped out (along w/ ‘shit’ and ‘bitch’, too, since this was USA and all). All in all, pleasantly shocked.

I used to love David Arquette in The Outsiders: the Series. He made an awesome Two-Bit Matthews. The guy was made to play psychos from the 60′s. He carries the muttonchops and ducks ass hairdo perfectly.

Chestnuts roasted by trajeal @ 01/26/2005 10:08 AM

YEAH! That movie rocked! For a made for TV movie on USA, that was a great flick. Besides that one fuck, I also heard one shit, so they maybe wanted to drop a couple of bombs…or maybe the censors were just getting high in the bathroom at that time.

I liked the part where Alan was on the Bullet with his dad in the seat next to him, that was great.

There was the scene where Alan was about to answer the phone in his room, and he said to himself, "You don’t want to go to Toronto with Cheech and Chong here, do you?" or something along those lines…I don’t think Cheech and Chong were around in 1969, were they? Hmmm.

But overall, I give it an A+. Stephen King movies on TV have a habit of sucking, but this one fought the tide. The special effects were actually pretty good, and I like the fact that there was swearing in the script, it just makes it seem more like you’re reading the story; more like King would do it.

The ending was good, but why introduce the adult Alan for the last two minutes. It was kind of like Stand By Me, where they had Richard Dryfuss in for a split-second. Oh well, I will watch it again, so that says something right there!

Oh yeah, it’s always nice to see Christine again, if only for a while!

Congrats Manimal. As beautiful a babe as I’ve ever seen.
I saw Catwoman last night. Man-o-man was that a bad movie. It was hilarious though.

Chestnuts roasted by jhnnywalkr @ 01/26/2005 11:06 AM

Little Brother wants me to read Dreamcatcher, then watch the movie. Not the other way ’round, too painful. He’d rather I’d scream at the movie while I watch it, not while I’m reading the book. Is Christine the polar opposite of Herbie, the Love Bug?

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 01/26/2005 11:44 AM

Yeah, Christine is certainly not a Love Bug. More like a Hate Tank. Big, red ’57 Plymouth Fury that can heal herself, drive around w/ no human behind the wheel, and possess anyone who owns her. So, not one you want to pick up at Danny’s Used Car Lot.

Dreamcatcher was ok. I liked that they had Donnie Wahlberg (remember NKOTB?) play Duddits. Kinda funny that Donnie’s little brother Marky Mark is now the more famous one in his family. Well, until one of his other 8 siblings lose thier marbles and become Boston’s next serial killer (a la Corey Stayner, after his brother Stephen was kidnapped for 7 years and then returned to his family. Corey ended up kidnapping women and killing them in the mountains).

Tangents, tangents. I love my tangents.

I thought the ending w/ the older Alan was stupid. They should have just left well enough alone. Basically, after finally "riding the bullet", Alan grew up to become this ordinary adult who never let his fear of George Staub stand in his way of being… average. Not knowing that would have been better. I swear, though, SK needs a baby naming book or something. How many characters named George has he had now? George Staub, George Stark, George Denborough. There’s been a few Jacks, too. Jack Torrance, Jack Sawyer, Jack Hogan (Chattery Teeth), Charlie Hogan, Lardass Hogan…

ANYway, that crow saying, "What the fuck are you looking at?" freaked my shit out. I did not expect it to talk. Then, when Alan’s mother started squawking like the Cat Boy from The Grudge, I nearly jumped out of my skin. The bunny screaming made my stomach turn a bit. All in all, a good movie.

Geez, what’s with all the hostile posts toward the old Christmas motif? The man has a job and a life outside of this. It will be okay.

Sorry about the cursing Matt…its just this is the cooloest sigt on the web…period. I ned my daily fix…SO HURRRY UP!!! Thank you.

Chestnuts roasted by neo @ 01/26/2005 6:48 PM

Hey Traj? Don’t you mean a ’58 Plymouth Fury? Hehehe ;) The bird talking while eating the roadkill reminded me of The Talisman where the bird talked to Jacky on Arcadia Beach. I think it’s funny how King incorporates his own universe throughout all the stories…the movie also referred to Castle Rock, which is not a real city, but a very integral one in the King universe.

Neo, why don’t you try using the search box on the bottom of the main page and find some older articles to read while Matt is out in the real world. There are lots of great articles on the site that you can’t see because the archives are not up and functioning…but they are still there.

My $.02? I like the Christmas motif!! Keep it up all year round for all I care. It’s Matt that matters, not what the front page looks like. Y’all know he’s got a (ahem) real job out there, so cut the master some slack. Yarr.

Chestnuts roasted by kidneyboy @ 01/26/2005 7:18 PM

Duh! Yeah, I should have known that. ’57, ’58 – hey, what’s the difference? Don’t answer that.

Nice suggestion on searching the archives. Actually, go back a few blogs and click on all of the links a few of us have posted of our favorite X-E articles, neo. Seriously, just pick one and then keep clicking "Next Entry" until you hit an article you like. That will hold you over.

Also, I love the Christmas motiff. Cuz, you know what? X-E = X-Mas in trajeal land. Although, I do like it when Matt posts a message in here (not necessarily a whole blog entry, just a message in an already written entry), just so we know he’s ok and hasn’t gone postal over there in the Nick offices. You never know what Spongebob is capable of. Speaking of, didn’t you mention that you were working on some new stuff at work, Matt? I can’t wait to hear about it. I love living vicariously through your Nick experience.

Hey matt last halloween. Paramounts Kings( a cincinnati amusment park) Island did a show called Jason’s Finest cuts. It was basically a clip showof Voorhee’s finest kills with a bunch of hyperactive actors playing camp counsoulers. IT was kinda funny and i think it mght have been shown @ other theme parks around the country. hHAve you seen it?
