12/14/2004: Advent & Advert Calendars, updated!

Advent and Advert Calendars, updated. Gotta go feed the fish. They eat frozen beef heart. Not kidding, they love the stuff. Comes packaged in these little manageable cubes that pop out of foil pockets right into the tank. I get a kick out of feeding my fish beef heart, but I don’t want to ever touch it. Today’s moral: I like Orbity.

Hate the Jetsons, love the commercial. How odd is that?

I love cartoons but the Jetsons were never good. Loved the Flintstones though.

The advent calender is awesome, keep it up!

I sort of outgrew the Jetsons, coincidentally about the time they brought out "Orbity". Orbity is to Astro what Elmo is to Big Bird, only Elmo succeeded. The Sprint guy, however, is almost always cool. (There was that stupid bit about telling kids they were over their maccaroni minutes or whatever.) He’d make me want to use Sprint if I didn’t prefer Cingular.

Wow, I read the Advent while watching Fresh Prince, is that crazy or what? I thought the first mother was way better than the second. She seemed more into playing the role of Aahnt Viv.

I heard this song on the radio today, it was a Chipmunks parody talking about eating Chipmunks in stew, and with honey glaze and stuff. It was pretty funny, at the end the guy screamed "MELVIN" instead of Alvin.

I feed my fish beef heart too, and freeze dried blood worms that are also in handy little cubes (gumdrops, I believe they’re called).

I can’t wait to see Mare shove that wand up Waiterbot’s ass!

Matt, you’ve out-done yourself today. I don’t remember the Jetsons/Radio Shack commercial (this must be from the eight-or-so-year interim when my family didn’t have cable and I had no life and no friends to sneak over and watch their TVs), but the Advent Calender just gets better and better. How are the Stormtroopers (whose IQ appears to be the size of the cell phone Claire got today) going to get the wand back from Her Imperial Nastiness? Has Mare found a spell? Can they rescue Random Jim in time for the appearance of the Big Guy In Red?

And, most importantly of all, what kind of crank calls could Claire whip up with a cell phone the size of a peanut?

Totally off topic, I know, (and I hope nobody has mentioned it yet), but I just saw this commercial…

Matt- are you going to be buying your cat(s?) Ch-ch-ch-chia(!) Cat Grass this year? It comes in a Sylvester and Tweety container!

Also: I am waiting to read the update in the morning. Only a few more hours! Then I get to take two exams! Yay!

And: I really like your tree, Matt. Ours isn’t up yet (Dad was SUPPOSED to do it today, but he’s lazy. Too bad.) I guess it’ll be up a week before Christmas like it always is. When my mom was a kid, Santa would bring the tree on Christmas Eve. I don’t know how many families do that now, but I can’t imagine putting up and decorating a tree on Christmas Eve, while trying to not wake up the kids. (Yeah, that totally belonged in the previous comment space.)

Is Kuse going to do something that actually shows that actually poves that he is of some worth after all? I hope so, because I feel bad for Kuse. Maybe he’ll gety a face for Christmas too. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

I like Random Jim a lot too. They’d better rescue him, because he’ll be useful to the good guys. After all, he’s good at Tennis.

Has anyone else noticed that FOLGERS has resurrected one of their Christmas oldies circa 1985. The one where the college student comes home early and surprises his family. My wife tapes "The Young and the Restless" so it may only be airing during the daytime.
Who am I kidding, I love watching YNR with her.

I hold the Sprint guy personally responsible for Claire’s acquiring of the cellphone that she now has. C’mon, we all know who put that cellphone in the 14th box in the first place. He knew that Claire was in this year’s 2004 Playmobile/X-E Advent Calendar. He knew it.

Ghosted by Nate @ 12/15/2004 12:12 PM EST

Err…I mean…15th box. Oops.

Ghosted by Nate @ 12/15/2004 12:13 PM EST

Orbity? What the hell was that little thing anyway? By the way I downloaded the christmas M&M’s commercial and when I played it my player only played the first 9 seconds out of the whole 30 second ad. Anyone else have this problem with the same file? It has to be the file because my player plays all of the other christmas ads just fine.

Ghosted by Hordak Alpha @ 12/15/2004 1:04 AM EST

Don’t worry about Kuse, I have a feeling our favorite faceless Stormtropper will have a huge role in saving Christmas. Perhaps by taking off his helmet, it will cause Waiterbot to go insane and eat Claire. Mare and friends free Santa….and santa gives Kuse a new face…albeit a female face…but a face nonetheless!

Ghosted by The Dragon @ 12/15/2004 2:00 AM EST

Wouldn’t it be sad if someone made a random guess at what was going to happen on the calendar, and they were right? Would kinda take the fun out of it.

Ghosted by Mara @ 12/15/2004 2:08 AM EST

Mara-No. I’d probably laugh if I guessed it correctly. But I wouldn’t be too disappointed if it happened to be something completely unpredicted.

Ghosted by Nate @ 12/15/2004 2:35 AM EST

wtf?!?!? I have a copy of the 12.11 M&Ms ad from 84 with a TOTALLY different song on it.

I also have roughly 20 other xmas and other ads from the 80s. If only my video card had an input… =(

I caught the last few minutes of The Christmas Special Christmas Special last night. This will replay this afternoon, and I am sure many more times before the big day, if anyone is interested:

Happiness is December on X-E. I can’t be clever or witty when all I can think of is "this fucking rules."

Matt -
Any chance that Mista Snowman will make a return visit to save Mare?

Ghosted by Joe in OH @ 12/15/2004 7:23 AM EST

I agree with Monster Dog- Happiness IS December on XE! My cholocate advent calendar in no way makes me feel as though Xmas is coming the way that Matt’s advent calendar does!

Ghosted by Muppet Baby @ 12/15/2004 9:17 AM EST

manimal 789, you’ve made my day! I was just thinking about that commercial, and how it always got me right there.

Last finals today, people! Did you hear me? LAST. FINALS. I predict that 5 hours from now, at 2:50 PM, I will be drunk at the dive bar across from campus…or very close to getting there. Wish me luck!

Hey people!
I found a site some weeks ago that were selling this sort of "playmobile cubic toys" like Kuse and Nacks.

Could anybody tell me how the hell are they called? I can’t remember and I can’t seem to find nor the site nor the name of the toys…and I’m dying to get some of these babies!

thanks in advance! :)

Ghosted by melonian @ 12/15/2004 11:31 AM EST

You may be referring to the Kubrick line of figures, which aren’t cheap but rock the house.

Ghosted by Matt @ 12/15/2004 11:35 AM EST

wow…that was fast!

I can’t think of many animals who could move that fast…then again, I can’t really think of many animals under any circumstance so you were a winner there.

My personal helper (google) says you’re right, so thanx a bunch and a half!
Price doesn’t matter when it’s down to star wars playmobile toys!

I’ll starve if needed. Fair deal :)

Thanks matt :)

I’d send help to Mare & Co., but I ain’t giving up my Lego Green Goblin! Or MJ in her red dress. I need to get the Spidey 2 subway set that comes with Jolly Jonah. Why no X-Men Legos? A Lego Logan is fun to say.

Ghosted by kingklash @ 12/15/2004 12:43 PM EST

Hey melonian whats the name of that site i wanna see and whatcha getting me for christmas

Ghosted by I Wanna Know @ 12/15/2004 1:01 PM EST

Geez you weren’t kiddin. Those Kubrick figures are expensive, but they are also incredibly awesome.

Ghosted by jhnnywalkr @ 12/15/2004 1:32 PM EST

I’m telling you, Mare is going to snap and summon bursts of pure plasmatic energy in her fists and shoot them out of her fingertips like bullets at Claire.

Claire is just too much of a bitch for Mare to keep her cool. Claire thinks she’s top dog when it comes to being mean, but I’m betting somebody in the story is far more evil than her when pushed to the limit. I can already see the hatred welling up within her each time our Stormtroopers fail. She’s geting restless…

Speaking of the Jetsons, I was shopping for my son the other night in Target and they had retro viewmasters! The box shouted "Timecapsule Viewmaster!" and they were obviously selling a lot better than the newfangled, complicated viewmasters that come with remote controls and kung fu grips. Anyway, they had two left, a red one with 3 Jetsons reels and a blue one with 3 Smurf reels. Which one did I pick? Let’s just say, this is going to be one Smurfarific Christmas!

I am finding myself way too emotionally invested in this plot. For the love of god, someone kill Claire.

Ghosted by scarymuppet @ 12/15/2004 3:24 PM EST

Matt, did you ever finish the last three days of xmassy? I know, we are wayyy past 2002, but im still dyin to know what happened…..

-yes fellow readers, i do comb through the site at work, instead of really doing work. Dont lie, you ALL do it. :)

Everyone see that lousy new Charlie Brown Christmas special last night? What a snooze.

Has everyone seen the Campbells Soup commercial with the melting snowman? I like that.

well, to Mr. I-wanna-know, you could see some cool stuff here:
http://www.action-figure.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=7895

It’s the Matrix Reloaded Kubricks for example, but for a better price and a better choice, check eBay, they’re sweeter there (I suspect they add more sugar)

Ghosted by melonian @ 12/15/2004 7:10 PM EST

Oh! and to Kinglash…hey hey! there’s X-Men Lego/Kubrick toys which are pretty cool by the way.

http://www.action-hq.com/cgi-bin/action-hq/oth001996.html

May be not the top notch but still some of the best around, but hey you just can’t top SW toys or even Nightmare Before X-mas kubricks…oh yeah!

Ghosted by melonian @ 12/15/2004 7:28 PM EST

Dont forget about Art Asylum’s Mini Mates.

They not only have Marvel characters, they have DC ones. THAT COME WITH THEIR OWN LEGO LIKE BUILDING SETS. (Only the DC ones though. To get past some liscense clause.)

And they kick the Kubrick toys asses since they aren’t blind buy. And have more articulation so Superman looks more impressive flying.

Here. Link: http://www.artasylum.com/products.html

The DC stuff is under the C3 name.

There are other companies making cute brick figure styled toys besides Lego and Kubrick, and they tend to be cheaper. 2 Packs of Minimates were on sale at some Wal Marts for 4.77 and the building set small ones with 2 figures and the little playsets were 10 bucks.

I was worried about the kitten for a minute. But then I remembered that this was Matt writing the Advent calendar so there was no way in hell a toy kitten would be destroyed. That was a close one though. I hope Claire doesn’t find that poor kitten.

Ghosted by Gabbylicious @ 12/16/2004 2:05 AM EST

I was happy to see that Waiterbot has a ‘good’ side and couldn’t kill the little kitty. Maybe Kuse and Knacks will convince him to take Claire down from the inside!

I want a viewfinder now.

Ghosted by Muppet Baby @ 12/16/2004 3:30 AM EST

I think the day before that commercial was filmed, George Jetson was on an alcohol-induced rant, screaming about how that pissant Flinstone thinks he’s king shit because he starred in the greatest Christmas commercial of all time.

"You want a great Christmas commercial? I’ll show you a goddamn cosmic commercial! Jane, get Sprint on the phone!"

"Oh, George. You’ve been drinking too much again! Rosey, set the closet to ‘drunk tank’."

My site has Lego, Lego pwns Playmobil.. :P

Ghosted by Cyanyde @ 12/16/2004 8:48 AM EST

Good job on the Advent Calendar. Some of you guys are takin the shit waaaaaayy too seriously though. Admit it, you probably hang around the site waitin for the next update dont you? I hate to break it to you guys, but Claire, Mare, Kuse, Knacks, whatever…they arent REAL people, they are toys, and this is just a website. Go get a hobby and care about something real. Other than that, good work Matt, keep it up.

Am I seeing David the Gnome on the bottom of the Advent Calendar? He’s not very Christmas-y!
