In the 80s, Jem dolls were welcome, as they were expensive and HUGE, especially compared to your run-of-the-mill Barbie. I got my first working typewriter sometime in the mid-80s. It was gray-and-white plastic, and I wrote many a movie sequal and random story on it until the carbon died and I couldn’t find a replacement.
