The Christmas Present Survey.

The Advent and Advert Calendars have been updated. Look for a post on here tomorrow about Christmas trees. And participate. In a survey: what's the best Christmas/holiday present you've ever received? I know we've done this one before, but the crop of posters around now are probably a lot different from last year's. That, and I can't think of anything else.

"Random Jim. I’m good at tennis."

Love it!

Millennium Falcon from the original Star Wars toy line (actually, they just rereleased it). Complete with rotating gun turret, hidden cargo smuggling compartment, and practice droid. It’s friggin HUGE. :)

The rib bone to Operation.

When I got the game I insisted on playing it right away under the tree and in the midst of everyone opening presents and making a mess. Later that night I noticed the rib bone was gone. To make things better, my mom dug through three bags of wrapping paper and discared buffet food until she found the missing piece.

Gotta be Nintendo. Can’t beat classic Nintendo. Every kid wanted Nintendo in the 80s, and I got it.

Definantly was when I was 6 and I got a Nintendo and the My Little Pony Paradise Estate, most awesome x-mas ever!

The Advent Calender is heating up. What will Claire do to our witty newcomer, Random Jim? Will the Stormtrooper crew be re-elevated? Will Claire find the spell in time? Can anyone believe it’s almost mid-month? Christmas a week from Saturday!

I was actually thinking about favorite Christmas presents this afternoon while watching holiday specials. In the 80s, Jem dolls were welcome, as they were expensive and HUGE, especially compared to your run-of-the-mill Barbie. I got my first working typewriter sometime in the mid-80s. It was gray-and-white plastic, and I wrote many a movie sequal and random story on it until the carbon died and I couldn’t find a replacement. Mom let me use her vintage typewriter after that, which had a rewindable carbon.

That would be my N64…First I opened a present that was an extra controller, then I was beholded the Nintendo 64..and all was good.

And will Random Jim’s Tennis experience help out our heroes? I don’t know, I don’t write this! But stay tuned anyway!

Back to the future remote control car.

I have to agree with Tony, the old 8-bit nintendo all the way. Kids now just can’t understand, but that game was SO high tech. And to actually have it? In my own house? Dream come true. Replaced our old Odyssey (did anybody else have one of these), which I have no idea what happened to.

When I was 5 I got the whole original He-Man set, Castle of Grayskull and all 20 or whatever figures. Blew my mind. Still does.

A trip to see Everton at Goodison Park. Yeah, it’s not that exciting to anyone besides me…

Nintendo seems to be popular and frankly there’s a good reason for it. It rocked! Getting a Nintendo when I was in first grade with Mario 1 and 2, Duckhunt, World Class Track Meet, Ducktales, and NES Football made that Christmas sometime very special. A few other holidays before that were special but no one had an awesome gift like this.

Me again. I got Gyromite and Duck Hunt with my Nintendo, which meant I got a Zapper and my very own Robotic Operating Buddy. I could never get R.O.B. to work right, but I wish I could find him, at least for nostalgia value. Shortly after, I got SMB and The Legend of Zelda.

I got Mario 2 a couple Christmases later, and that was pretty great.

The NES followed by the Sega Genesis. I *so* wanted to play Sonic the Hedgehog that year (it had just come out) as I REALLY remember this one since it was a Sega Obsession. The pink My Little Pony castle was a big one too and when I was older (14 I think?) 13? It was a 101 disc CD changer for my music. That was awesome. Spent Christmas on the floor trying to figure out what to load in it. Relatives were stepping over piles of CDs all day.

I think Knacks and Kuse should form their own team, devoted to ensuring that they DO NOT remain bit players!

Best Xmas gift ever? One year I walked into the living room with my little bro and Santa had actually SET UP a ‘Popples’ TENT right in the middle of the room! That, and the year of the Super Nintendo- I thought that Nintendo was amazing, and SUPER Nintendo just blew my mind. It’s still my favorite system, and I play it to this day.

Again, Matt, thanks for all the hard work on your calendars.

Matt- Thanks for that TRU commercial the other day as well- living in Canada, I don’t get many TRU commercials, and I have seriously had that song in my head for years!!

an official red ryder carbine action 200 shot range model air rifle ..you know the one with the compass in the stock and this thing which tells time. Oh wait that was ralphie…

Honestly my favorite christmas gift of All time was the year (198something) I recieved every set in the robin hood and every set in the castle collections in Legos…Man CHristmas Day and weeks after gave way to EPIC lego adventures….

For me the best christmas gift ever was the Replica Intercontinental Title belt my grandmother baught for me two years ago. I unwrapped it, the clocked my little brother in the head and celebrated while he bladed with a peice of peanut brittle.

Best gift ever: this little toy truck.
It’s not the most historic, or life changing toy, but the year I got it, everything had to stop while I played with this toy truck.

That’s my most memorable toy I’ve gotten, and I think that means it’s also the best.

My absolute favorite Christmas gift was the Death Star Playset. I loved to cram the figures into the trash compacter that was filled with sponges and the trash monster. I’d crank that sucker as far as I could. It got beat up over the years and I’d tape it up like crazy. I must’ve played with that for a good two years.

I think that Mare is actually the evil one, just manipulating the rest of the team until she can get Claire where she wants her. Random Jim isn’t random, but a specially-placed agent from Mare’s super-group of tennis all-stars. Expect Agassi to come in and start kicking ass and takin’ names!

As far as my best gift, it’s got to be Trypticon, the huge Transformer Decepticon city. At the age of six, I was in butt-clenching, pre-orgasmic glory when unwrapping that monster box. Life…..was pretty fucking sweet.

Mars, I am officially jealous.

I was not aware of the V-Tech version, but Sony’s "My First…" line had their own electronic sketch pad at the same time.

Unfortunately my video graphics filled dreams had to wait until a certain online bidding site came into my life. Thanks to Ebay, I have been able to pick up two professional versions of Sony’s pad, and the amazing http://www.atarimagazines.com/v3n5/computergraphics.html">Atari and KoalPad Touch Tablets.

You will get a kick out of the original Homestar Runner cartoon done by Bros. Chaps on Super NES:

http://www.homestarrunner.com/secrets.html

That was a great time for home video production equipment. Ah, the memories of commercials for Amiga’s http://www.newtek.com/newtek/summary.html">Video http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/2.05/flying.toasters_pr.html">Toaster; which I later found out was created by Dana Carvey’s brother. Then there was that atenna tracking device thing, attached in between the tripod and camera, for freeing the cameraperson of staying with the camera. The subject was tracked, left or right, by another device held on the belt.
