11/22/2004: Seed of Chucky & The Thanksgiving Survey.

So I checked out Seed of Chucky on behalf of Box Office Magazine (and because I really, really wanted to), and while I had several typical complaints and couldn’t possibly recommend the movie to a broad audience, I worry that I may have been too hard on it. It wasn’t boring, it wasn’t a retread — I guess it just didn’t click together into something that could keep my attention diverted from the asshole chair-kicking kids who were somehow stationed directly behind us in an otherwise empty theater. Definitely loving the Tilly, though. Certain moments of dopey dialogue aside, Chucky’s clearly the coolest of the slashers these days. Not necessarily my favorite, but hey, Freddy, Jason and friends haven’t earned enough stripes to make Britney Spears jokes yet, and apparently, Chucky has. We must also concede that the final two installments of the Child’s Play series revamped the original idea using one of the better methods in horror history. When you’ve got Jennifer Tilly voicing a killer doll who’s trying to impregnate Jennifer Tilly with a dripping turkey baster full of Chucky’s sperm, there’s at least some small thing here to make you stand up, raise a glass and shout: “Okay, I didn’t see that coming.” For audiences who aren’t going to be in love with this type of movie no matter how bad it is, no way, can’t tell ya to see it. You’ll want outta there after fifteen minutes. Likely better on DVD with a bong nearby.

To celebrate a movie I’m just not sure about, here’s a saucy gallery featuring Jennifer Tilly’s best…heh…”assets.” _1_ _2_ _3_ _4_ _5_

I’m still working on the parade review, trying to get some bits and pieces done after work for a night-before-Thanksgiving launch. Not as early as I would’ve liked, but not late. Meanwhile, survey: what are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?

I can’t believe I’m First! Going to mom’s house for turkey day as usual. But it’s also my wedding anniversary. How romantic!

you bastard.

Wow! JT’s assets are magnificent to be hold. Makes a girl like me a bit jealous. Incidently, what is that red thing or do I even want to know?

Ghosted by Kay @ 11/22/2004 10:03 PM EST

I wish I had assets like that.

It’s not worth it for me to go home for Thanksgiving ($500 for 4 days isn’t worth it for a lowly college student) so I’ll be here, working on my final architecture studio project and cursing my professor…

Ghosted by Mara @ 11/22/2004 10:13 PM EST

Ummm, yeah. Hey, ummm love your site dude.

Eating and shitting.

Eating, watching the parade, and hanging out with my sister, my boyfriend does all the holiday cooking (and most of the other cooking, for that matter).

Ghosted by Lindsey @ 11/22/2004 10:30 PM EST

Kay, the red thing is a missile. But an unpainted Boba Fett prototype might be tempted to use it for other things. When you’re worth about $15,000, you can do whatever you want.

Thanksgiving? Watch my old high school’s football game, eat turkey with my family, probably see "National Treasure," watch that Seinfeld special, and watch a Christmas special or movie (either the Albert Finney version of "Scrooge," Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, or Pee-Wee’s Christmas Special).

Ghosted by Darth Monkey @ 11/22/2004 10:34 PM EST

Man I’m practically already on Thanksgiving! My college is on strike and it seems like it could be this way for awhile I have enough time to go see Seed of Chucky again! Me and my brother both agree that the Tiffany doll was cute (not like hot cute like guinea pig cute). http://www.upi4100.org/neiu/ Go see Seed of Chucky this holiday weekend so they make more sequels!

Oh yea Matt which Burger King watch commercial did you write? There are three I’ve seen. One with Spongbob and 2 office ones.

Ghosted by Pat @ 11/22/2004 11:09 PM EST

THe SB one. The office ones aren’t done by Nick.

Ghosted by Matt @ 11/22/2004 11:14 PM EST

I’m going to eat some non-pilgrim like Chandler, watch the parade, and eat a turkey tv dinner. Finally my family has agreed with me to not hassle with cooking a big bird that we’ll dread having leftovers of.

Ghosted by pikachulover @ 11/22/2004 11:37 PM EST

Doing bookdrop at the library I work at (time and a half!) and not spending time with my family. Y tu?

Ghosted by MellowBlissful @ 11/22/2004 11:53 PM EST

Damn… I love those assets. Ok, I wish I had those assets here right now. :)
BTW, Matt, I saw the watch commercial, or at least I think I did. If the watches spin, I saw it on a local Fox station.
Thanks for the article.

Watching my dad pass out at the table. My mom always told me it was the tryptophan. Then I finally realized it was the pre-dinner vodka.

Ghosted by GadgetMouse @ 11/23/2004 12:25 PM EST

Damn, dirty assets!

Ghosted by Nachokhaki @ 11/23/2004 12:46 PM EST

Eating, and catching up on some animation work I’m somewhat late on.

Ghosted by Garrison @ 11/23/2004 12:56 PM EST

My cousin and his family are coming in from Mississppi. He’s a Captain in the Marime Corps and is stationed near Jackson. Going to watch the parade and hard hitting football action. Then going to my Aunt and Uncle’s house for the annual gorge-a-thon. Woo Hoo! Then on Friday it is football, football, leftovers, and more football-Followed by Karaoke firday night. Karaoke rules!! :)

Ghosted by BDBopper @ 11/23/2004 1:01 AM EST

Thanksgiving is over for Canadians, but what I DID do was have my first Thanksgiving with friends instead of family- we made the big meal together and the whole bit….except we cheated and bought a pre-cooked chicken and then just warmed it up. Then we watched evry single episode of "Family Guy" on DVD!

Ghosted by Muppet Baby @ 11/23/2004 1:07 AM EST

I love Thanksgiving; it’s my favorite holiday. Once Christmas happens, it’s all over…on Thanksgiving it’s just begun; plus you get tons of food, a parade when you wake up, a FOUR-day weekend, first-run movies on TV…man, it just keeps on giving!

"I had several typical complaints and couldn’t possibly recommend the movie to a broad audience"

*Broad* audience? That, sir, is sexist! They prefer the term "dames". I mean, I haven’t actually talked to one since ‘98, but that’s what I figure.

Also Matt, you check out the Spongebob movie yet? Good stuff.

The Cyclops deserves the Oscar for Best Actor.

Being an American in Canada, I am stuck with a different time of year for Thanksgiving. However, my school does do an American thanksgiving dinner for American students who have parents that are willing shell out the dough to pay for it. My parents get it for me every year, and it’s always damn good. However, I miss the days of my Grandma’s turkey and pumpkin pie. My Grandma’s da bomb at cooking. I can’t wait to taste her food again this Christmas.

NATE- Glad to hear we have someone with your knowledge of all things 80s up here in Canada! Right on. :)

Ghosted by Muppet Baby @ 11/23/2004 5:59 AM EST

I’ll be working, like the corporate bitch I am.

Ghosted by Whirred @ 11/23/2004 6:06 AM EST

Going to my MIL’s for Thanksgiving. We alawys do. Boring. No one watches the football game over there, or the parade. They usually just play Bill Gaither tapes super loud so Mr. Traj’s step-grandmother can hear them. I know my littlest one is going to be grumpy – she usually goes down for a nap after lunch, but she won’t even be eating until 2. Not my favorite holiday, let me tell you.

Sorry for the bitching, all. BTW, Giant Ape Juice, though.

Ghosted by trajeal @ 11/23/2004 8:06 AM EST

Going to my mom’s new house to eat with her, my husband, my sister, her boyfriend, and my new stepdad. If that isn’t an American Thanksgiving, I don’t know what is.

Ghosted by Jessica @ 11/23/2004 8:29 AM EST

So you just spoiled the movie for everybody with your spoiler?

Ghosted by dfggfg @ 11/23/2004 8:44 AM EST

I’m super psyched for thanksgiving! It’s my favorite holiday because turkey is my favorite food…not that gross deli turkey however, big, golden, roasty turkey! Yum.

We are going out to brunch at some fancy place with my parents at 11:00, then heading to my In-laws house at 2:00…we probably won’t eat there though since we will have just eaten but we’ll have dessert and there’ll be leftovers to take home!

Mmm turkey and stuffing sandwiches…

Ghosted by B-Dawg @ 11/23/2004 9:27 AM EST

Oh, and you know what might be cool? I think I recall last year you mentioning that you have to make some special stuffed mushrooms every year to bring to your sister’s house for Christmas right?

Well, I have to prepare an appetizer for Christmas eve family’s this year, and I thought stuffed mushrooms would be good. Maybe you can share your recipe?
A new installment of Chef Matt could be comedic gold! Gold Jerry, Gold!

Ghosted by B-Dawg @ 11/23/2004 9:29 AM EST

B-D, oddly enough, I had already planned to post that recipe on the blog the night before TG. Yes, I have to make ‘em again. :)

Ghosted by Matt @ 11/23/2004 9:31 AM EST

Holy crap! Was that an original Boba Fett action figure?

Ghosted by Jeff @ 11/23/2004 9:42 AM EST

I guess I’ll have to catch Chucky on video. I found a video store with a copy of FOOD OF THE GODS, so I have been waiting to get my timewasting paws into that one.
For Thanksgiving, eat with the wife’s family and watch the SEINFELD DVD’s until the wife threatens to kick me out (again).

Ghosted by manimal789 @ 11/23/2004 10:47 AM EST

I was totally looking for the ‘unsafe for work’ disclaimer before opening pictures of Jennifer’s "assets". Matt, you rock!

For the holiday, I am going to my grandmother’s in Buffalo. It’ll be my second turkey day (Canadian Thanksgiving rocks!), and my husband is in the Philippines/Australia for two months, so this one is not such a big deal. The crappy thing is I fly from Westchester to Dulles to Buffalo. It’s still shorter than driving.

Ghosted by Alison @ 11/23/2004 11:01 AM EST

I’ve got a hotel job, so I gotta work each and every major holiday. But they gave me a free turkey, so it’s not so bad.

Ya know, originally Britney was going to make a cameo in SoC, but she pulled out during preproduction. That’s what that jokey joke in the movie’s about.

So whatever. Hey, has anybody heard of the new CGI Popeye cartoon, "The Quest for Pappy?" It’s computer-generated, written by Paul Reiser (yes, of "Mad About You" fame), voiced by the guy who voiced Optimus Primal and also Billy West of "Ren & Stimpy." Considering its wacky credentials, it still manages to be pretty good! Worth a rent, definitely.

Ghosted by DeathFrogurt @ 11/23/2004 11:05 AM EST

I’m going to my family’s for just a short visit.. I have to leave and can’t stay long because I’ve "Got a million places to go?".. Then I’m going home to sleep and wallow in self pity..

Ghosted by Cycloptomese @ 11/23/2004 11:25 AM EST

My favorite holidays would go as such:

1. Thanksgiving
2. Christmas
3. New Years/July 4th

That being said, I’ll be doing what I do every year: stuffing my entire body worth of food at my uncle’s house in Baldwinsville, NY

Ghosted by Jeff Mack @ 11/23/2004 11:41 AM EST

I’ll probably eat turkey then take a nap. One thing for sure I won’t be going to the bars on the day before Thanksgiving because it is insanely packed in each one. Its not a lot of fun to stand in one place all cramped up for so long plus its loud as fuck….disgusting.

Ghosted by phunqsauce @ 11/23/2004 11:42 AM EST

I’ll spend Spanksgivvin mo’nin in a light doze, with parades on the TV. Then the afternoon at my Aunt’s house, helping skeletonize the turkey. Getting some rest, because Friday starts the Holiday sale here at The Gallery. And spending time with my Sis while she’s here. She’s supposed to end her tour in February, but one of her CO’s said the way things are shaping up, she’ll get back to base just in time to pack up to come home for good. We can only hope. In the meantime, Giant Ape Juice.

My partner and I are skippin’ out on both families’ Thanksgivings this year and renting a cabin in the mountains. Hot tub, here I come!

BTW – Seed of Chucky is pretty good, not just as good as Bride of Chucky.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! Try not to kill your relatives.

Sweet! Can’t wait to get the recipe! Mmm…

I’m staying with my wife’s family. Somehow it was cool while we were dating– sorta romantic. Now I just wish I’d won the coin toss and we were going to Texas.

And watching football!

Ghosted by Dixon Deeper @ 11/23/2004 2:24 PM EST

I stumbled on to this site about a month ago. I’ve done nothing for about a month now.

As for my Thanksgiving, gonna eat a fried turkey and then watch people fight over sixty dollar stereos and digital cameras. Working at Target is fun.

Ghosted by Finutsion @ 11/23/2004 2:50 PM EST

Yeah, this page is all screwey, but I loved the "assets" thing. So Matt. Looking forward to a lot of food and grandparents to watch my kids while I play video games and football and video game football.

Ghosted by Shelby @ 11/23/2004 3:20 PM EST

Elf, I actually have that video, and I got a bunch of videos from that site a few years back.

Jeff Mack – No way! You’re going to B-ville? My Mom grew up there, so I have tons of family there still. I grew up not far away as well. Hope you’re having a Plainville Turkey.

Oh, and Giant Ape Juice.

Any advice for new writers?

Ghosted by Shawn Roy @ 11/23/2004 4:31 PM EST
