10/28/2004: X-E’s Halloween Bash starts tomorrow!

Stay tuned this weekend as I unload all of the shit I haven’t had a chance to write about on the Countdown in a big ol’ X-E Halloween Bash right here on the blog.  At least a dozen Halloween toys, decorations, candies and other junk will be plucked from their safety boxes and ransacked for my very last minute way to justify buying them in the first place.  Should be fun, especially if you’ve got nothing planned for the big HORROR weekend and need something to make you feel just a little bit less suicidal.  Prepare to see everything from pudding to the Wolfman.

"Wolfmen don’t have NARDS!!!!!!"

Monster Squad (1987)

Speaking of wolfmen I always liked the movie Werewolf they showed on MST3K.  The one chick with the accent kept pronouncing it whirr-wilf.  hehe, funny stuff…

On a totally unrelated note, did anybody else happen to come across PeeWee’s Playhouse Christmas Special on DVD?  I grabbed it as soon as I saw it.  Can’t wait for Seasons 1,2,3,4,5 to hit stores on Nov 16.

That was a real good MST. To this day, whenever someone mentions a werewolf, I can’t help but think of that movie and the way that woman talked.

Speaking of which, that used to be one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving, the MST3K Turkey Day Marathon. Maybe I’ll dust off the old tapes this year.

WereWolf versus Pudding!

Wolfman wears pants so he won’t show his wolf dork.

Posted by bob genghis khan @ 10/28/2004 4:18 PM EDT

i thought only european wolfmen wore pants… to be trendy and all.

Posted by Big Jerm @ 10/28/2004 4:21 PM EDT

Damn trendy european wolfmen…..

hey jhnnywalkr, i wish i woulda had comedy central back then.  The only time i got to see MST3K was when i visited my now deceased grandmother for a week in the summer.  It was so f’n cool because it was on like everyday practically.  Our cable company didn’t wise up until about 97 or 98 to add comedy central to its lineup.  I was happy when it returned on Sci-Fi because we always had that station.  Now i have the DVD multi movie packs.  I miss that show…currently i am in the process of getting season "0" which was the first season back when they were on local access.  most of the season is Gamera movies but thats ok with me because i have never seen them and i’m sure a lot of people haven’t either.

Amazing, Awesome, Spectacular!  Monster Squad is so damn awesome it’s hard to believe sometimes.  How scary is Dracula’s house in that movie?

Posted by Tenacious Tate @ 10/28/2004 5:09 PM EDT

hey phunqsauce.  How can I get ahold of season 0??

Posted by zombone @ 10/28/2004 6:03 PM EDT

I’m going to spend Halloween watching movies and eating candy :)
I’ll watch Disney’s Tower of Terror, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice and Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight.

I AM READY!!

MySpleen is a pretty good place for MST3K, but  you’re at the mercy of the seeders. Most people swear by Dap Central, too, but I’ve had problems with it.

Has anybody seen those Universal Monster figures from Jakks Pacific (makers of WWE and Van Helsing toys) that are exclusive only to Rite Aid? They’re messed up! Dracula doesn’t come with a cape (but he does have a bat),The Wolf Man only comes with a shovel, and there’s nothing really wrong with the Frankenstein Monster, becuase he comes with chains. If you want to get a kid (or yourself) these, splurge and go to TRU and get the versions with the playsets. They’re pretty much the same figures, but at least Dracula has a cape and candles, and the Wolf Man has removeable and attachable Lon Chaney Jr. parts.

let’s all go to my house and have some pie…

carved my pumpkin last night….couldn’t find any truly scary free patterns so i made a Tazmanian Devil pumpkin!

Have you ever tried to take a picture of a candle-lit pumpkin? its fricking impossible :(

Posted by -Jen- @ 10/29/2004 8:56 AM EDT

Yeah, phunqsauce, how do you get season 0? That would be awesome! I didn’t know they had DVDs out. I’ll have to look around for some. I taped them obsessively, so I have a ton already, but there are still a few I don’t have and the video quality is beginning to go downhill.

Posted by jhnnywalkr @ 10/29/2004 9:16 AM EDT

OMG!  Ok I know nobody’s mentioned this for a couple days or so, but I just finnished buying the parts to my costume last night…..I’m going as Dr. Frankenfurter (Tim curry in Rocky Horror Picture Show), and DAMN I’M SEXY!  I’m serious, if I wasn’t a guy, or if I was gay, I’d be all over myself at my  party.

Posted by brandon @ 10/29/2004 9:23 AM EDT

Hee, brandon! You’ll have to post a picture.

I started feeling sad this morning, knowing that Halloween is almst here, and the Countdown will be over. Sniff. I know it was a lot of work for you, Matt, but that doesn’t make me miss it any less. At least I have the upcoming articles and the contest entries to look forward to.

Since the whole Like a Virgin Madonna Version didin’t work out, I think I’ll go out this year as the Undead Tom Brady. I’ve got the jersey and the makeup. I wish Mr. Trajeal had a helmet lying around, but alas, he hasn’t actually played football in about ten years (the old fart). At least I’ll be warm underneath all of the sweatshirts I’ll have to wear to make myself look padded up.

hey if anyone is looking for a good pumpkin carving and wants to pay tribute to this site, be a stalker, or just do something probably nobody else in your neighborhood will understand, you can use this stencil:
http://tinypic.com/f0t4z

the original pic is here:
http://tinypic.com/f0t49

and a mockup is here:
http://tinypic.com/f0t3n

you have to be pretty handy with carving tools, though… on the stencil, black is cut out, gray is shaved about half an inch, and white is left alone.

Posted by big jerm @ 10/29/2004 10:05 AM EDT

oh, don’t worry, I plan on spreading these pictures around a lot

Posted by brandon @ 10/29/2004 11:22 AM EDT

Once, I thought Killer Duck would be X-E’s first centerfold, but now I would like to nominate brandon, because somehow, it’s more appropos of the situation.  Also, it’d be funny as hell!

Posted by kingklash @ 10/29/2004 12:26 PM EDT

king, what are you dressing up as again?

Posted by trajeal @ 10/29/2004 1:33 PM EDT

I’m using a Wal-Mart brain alien costume, and instead of the vinyl brain and too-small-for-my-large-noggin cowl, adding a larger no-face cowl turned inside-out (to round out the hood look), and a cut-down glow-in-the-dark hockey mask over that.  Even now, I’m debating cutting arm blades out of foam core and spraying them with that cheap glow spray.  I always take nephews and/or neices and/or cousins out every year.  One more time for the older folk: dress up and chaperone your kids, some houses will give you a treat or two for going through the trouble.  I also carry a little tape player along and play my Dr. Demento tapes as we walk about.  It’s the little things that count.

Posted by kingklash (Boo!) @ 10/29/2004 5:56 PM EDT

Man, I wish Mr. Trajeal would go through that much trouble for Halloween. Actually, I wish he’d go through any trouble for Halloween. This year, my friend and I are taking our kids out while the guys stay home and watch the Patriot’s Game. What would Ebeneezer Scrooge say during Samhain? Bah "lazy-ass-football-watching-no-fun-Daddio" humbug.

Posted by trajeal @ 10/29/2004 7:23 PM EDT

I think eveyone should send pics of their ill-fated we’en costumes, and the cats they terrorised in the process. Even though Samhaim ain’t something S’africans celebrate, this view of how the wacky half lives has been most… educational.
