wow, never posted before…Regardless, this has become one of the finest hours of my life, simply because of this comic strip which has been passed on to me is crafted so delicately, with such detail, that perfection has been achieved

Posted by Narf @ 10/26/2004 9:53 PM EDT

Matt, I gotta say, I really love the ghost comics.  They’re awesome.

Posted by Ian @ 10/26/2004 9:55 PM EDT

Agreed. And just out of curiosity, is anyone going to see SAW this weekend?

Posted by Narf @ 10/26/2004 9:56 PM EDT

Best. Comic. Ever.

Posted by Mr. Mr. Mr. @ 10/26/2004 10:05 PM EDT

This comic is, like, ten pounds of awesome in a five-gallon jug!
Great job, Matt!!

Posted by Stompy 9000 @ 10/26/2004 10:07 PM EDT

Ok, I have to ask.  Did that one ghost respond with a Scarface accent, or is it just me?  ". . . sorry mang"  But if it was intentional, shouldn’t it have been, "shorry, mang"?

Posted by Dane @ 10/26/2004 10:15 PM EDT

Forget Saw, I think I’m going for my second helping of Shaun.

Yeeeeeaaaah Boooooyyyy!

Posted by Knegative @ 10/26/2004 10:25 PM EDT

Damn… that was so funny… mang!
LOL

Posted by Croww @ 10/26/2004 10:28 PM EDT

I’ve read mixed reviews of Saw, but it sounds like one to see.  Has anyone checked out The Grudge yet?

Posted by Matt @ 10/26/2004 10:29 PM EDT

HAHAHAHA.. this one was the awesomest so far!! :D

I hope there’ll be another before halloween!

Posted by EyeLikeP00 @ 10/26/2004 10:43 PM EDT

11th!
Operator, I’d like the number of someone that carves pumpkins for money, second, i’d like the number of the nearest pizza hut .

Truly, you are a king among men.

Posted by RPharazon @ 10/26/2004 10:58 PM EDT

I also read mixed reviews for Saw, but at least it’s supposed to be gory. It looks like The Grudge isn’t any good either, not according to Something Awful anyway.

Posted by squee4242 @ 10/26/2004 11:25 PM EDT

uhhh… what movie is saw?
man i feel dumb asking cuz everyone seems to know but i really had to ask

Posted by annalalala @ 10/27/2004 1:25 AM EDT

Hey there! Ima long time reader, first time poster…and I just must say: AMAZING! MAGICAL! I will never be the same. Your art is fan-freaking-tastic….very remniscent of Calvin and Hobbes, I think. BEST LINE IN THE WORLD:
"my pumpkin brings all the boys to the yard"
I can die happy now.
Thank you much!!!!! :)

Posted by Dorklicious @ 10/27/2004 2:10 AM EDT

Hell. Haven’t been done with the comic for thirty seconds and I already feel the need to bust out my white girl Milkshake.
Damn right, it’s better than yours…
Ugh.

Posted by Calypso @ 10/27/2004 2:11 AM EDT

Ha Ha Ha HA Ha! Drama at it’s best…………………

Posted by D-Roc @ 10/27/2004 3:59 AM EDT

I actually did that embarrassing raspberry-when-you-laugh thing…you know, when you’re sitting there all tired and closed-mouthed but you can’t wait to see what’s on X-E today, and you really, really don’t think you’re going to laugh open-mouthed, and then you read Matt’s comic, and you go:

"PPPBBBLLLAAAHHH!"

There is a fine spray of spittle all over my computer screen.  Yeah, I needs the sleep.

Posted by Emily @ 10/27/2004 5:18 AM EDT

Saw The Grudge over the weekend. It was a very true to the original Jun Ho. The movie is well worth the watch. I’m looking forward to Saw.

Posted by Croww @ 10/27/2004 7:14 AM EDT

Oh, glad to see you have free ghosts there…here they all have chains attached to huge lead balls…ehmm the chains, not the ghosts ;)

anyway, my carved pumkin didn’t fly :waaaaaaaah:

Posted by melonian @ 10/27/2004 7:16 AM EDT

I’m going to see The Grudge on Sunday. I’m sure the theatres will be packed, w/ it being Halloween day and all. At least we’ll be going to an early show, so we can bring the kiddies out for TorT later. Mr. Trajeal will be skipping the TorT tis year, in favor of the Patriot’s game. Can’t say I blame him, w/ the streak they’re on and all.

Oh, remember that accident I was in about a month ago? Well, we finaly got the insurance check and I have myself a new ride. It’s a station wagoo-oon, so a bit less Soccer Mom than the minivan, but still a parenty vehicle. Hey, I’m not complaining. After being stuck in the house w/ no vehicle and three kids for a month, I would have driven a conversion van.

Posted by trajeal @ 10/27/2004 8:21 AM EDT

Oh, yeah. I wanted to ask if anyone was using the pumpkin Light Bright pegs over actual carving this year? I found some at Kmart for $4 a package. Comes w/ 50 colored light bright pegs, a hammer, patterns and a battery operated blinking light for the inside. No candle needed, which is nice, since I never seem to make my vent hole at the top big enough, and the candleflames die of asphyxiation. The pegs actually work pretty well, and they’re less messy. I just had to scopp out the pumpkin guts and let the kids go to work (rather than doing all of the work myself and having them put claims on whichever pattern sparked their fancies). Pretty cool.

Posted by trajeal @ 10/27/2004 8:25 AM EDT

Matt, you really need someone to make the ghosts into a flash comic, man. That would be sweet.

Posted by AngeFaitore @ 10/27/2004 8:33 AM EDT

I pity the ghosts!

Posted by Mr. T @ 10/27/2004 8:47 AM EDT

Thanks for letting me back on Matt!
I pitied myself being "rejected" from posting.  I seen saw - one heck of a jibber jabber kick butt movie!

Posted by Mr. T @ 10/27/2004 8:49 AM EDT

Oh yea, not to be a blog hog, but I also should mention Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown was on last night on ABc at 8 o’clock - right up against the big dogs of prime time tv.  I pity Linus nad Charlie Brown!

Posted by Mr. T @ 10/27/2004 8:52 AM EDT

Seriously…you gotta make comics a regular gig.  The halloween stuff was never a big thing for me (other than being the harbringer of wonderous, spleftactular christmas stuff…especially here), but the GwtM keeps me comin’ back.

Posted by GLS @ 10/27/2004 9:23 AM EDT

The "phone boo"?

Okay, that made me laugh despite the crappy week I’m having.  Nice one, Matt.

I envy the hell out of you for having a site where you can entertain people with stuff like this :)

Posted by Night_Trekker @ 10/27/2004 9:47 AM EDT

"My pumpkin brings all the boys to the yard!"

Now that was a laugh out loud moment.

Posted by Kay @ 10/27/2004 9:48 AM EDT

Matt,

Best comic strip, by far.  You are the Mang!

Posted by J-Dog @ 10/27/2004 10:38 AM EDT

i really hope these comics don’t disappear after halloween. i can see them in a thanksgiving special, a christmas special, and eventually a tv series. and hopefully, one day, i’ll be able to buy a sleeping bag with these characters (and some of the other characters you’ll soon create) on it.

Posted by mysteryguycalvin @ 10/27/2004 11:03 AM EDT

Shouldn’t that be "ScareFace?"  "Say hello to my little orange friend!"

Posted by kingklash @ 10/27/2004 11:37 AM EDT

I agree with everyone else here…I *love* the comics! I really hope they stay around throughout the year, in one form or another…

Posted by B-Dawg @ 10/27/2004 11:48 AM EDT

I used to have a First Place ribbon, but I metaphorically gave it to Matt when I found this site.

Posted by Shelby @ 10/27/2004 11:52 AM EDT

Totally amde my day. You kick so much butt, Matt!
I love it when you do the comic stuff!

So many typing problems… that was supposed to be (me) "made" up there.
And I almost called you Meat, Matt.
I need to go to bed.

Posted by Rainbowfeet @ 10/27/2004 12:15 PM EDT

Would it be possible to keep the ghosts yea round? Or maybe trick us with 2 smart ass snowmen, or suns, for whatever season. We’ll be none the wiser…

poor sad ghosty…so mediocre

Matt, your comics are one of a kind.  Do you come up with these things on the fly or is there a secret notebook with outtakes and deleted scenes we haven’t seen before?  I gots to know!

Posted by bob genghis khan @ 10/27/2004 12:47 PM EDT

Remember the Emeril Live! comic where he dresses like Dracula? He did just that on one of his shows this week. Kick ass. This vampire isn’t afraid of GAHHHLICCC!!!

Posted by masked @ 10/27/2004 2:22 PM EDT

This made me feel so much better. I am putting away the razors and now assembling the parts necessary to build my very own jetpack pumpkin. Thank you, Matt. Thank you.

Posted by Jessica @ 10/27/2004 2:36 PM EDT

I pity you fools!  My prediction - Pain!  Matt you hit a home run with your ghosty posty’s — its all jibber jabber to me tho — ya’ll some pumpkinheads — speaking of which, can we get a pumpkinhead review matt?  its better than that jack-o-lantern guy movie you done did.  I PITY THE FOOL!

Posted by Mr. T @ 10/27/2004 2:43 PM EDT

how can you follow a post by Mr.T? i am shamed.

these pumpkins are great! mine dosen’t fly either, it just has the gb logo done really crappy. that should scare some kids away :D

Posted by Randy @ 10/27/2004 2:47 PM EDT

it could have only been funnier if you left out the Kelis reference. once again a great comic. How long do these things take you?

Posted by Ally @ 10/27/2004 3:55 PM EDT

woo Hoo da comics!!!

Posted by dfggfd @ 10/27/2004 4:31 PM EDT

Mountain Dew Pitch Black and Pepsi Holiday Spice

Posted by ME @ 10/27/2004 4:56 PM EDT

FUCK YEAH!  The only competition would be DinoGhost.  A comic about a half-dinosaur/half-ghost.

Posted by terd fergusson @ 10/27/2004 5:24 PM EDT

The Grudge was very true to the original film, i agree. And while it was predictable, it was still entertaining. As for Saw, even with mixed reviews, you cant do wrong with a badguy named ‘Jigsaw’ can you?

Posted by Narf @ 10/27/2004 6:22 PM EDT

Hahahahah! Phone Boo!

Posted by Kate @ 10/27/2004 7:20 PM EDT

My TV brings all the girls to my room.  And believe me, it’s better than…um…Zoom!

OK, so girls don’t flock to my dorm room, but that’s alright.  All I need is beer and Nintendo.

Posted by Nate @ 10/27/2004 8:27 PM EDT

You know what’s weird? When Matt does these little comics he probably thinks he’s slacking off and throwing something easy and quick up on the site, and these are probably my favorite parts of the countdown.

Which is no way a slight on the awesomeness that is Standing Skull Man, by the way. He rocks the Casbah.

Posted by Hellpop! @ 10/27/2004 10:37 PM EDT

This has nothing to do with much here, but I was looking for a link someone posted here sometime during the countdown in the blog with steps to make 3 costumes based on various games. One was a naked Sim. Anyway, I tried to google for the site directly, and kept adding keywords and adding keywords, and when I got to "3 video game based fast halloween costumes naked sims" the first site to pop up was a link to the XE blog page about gummy teeth. Dunno why, it wasn’t where the link was, but I found that amusing. Anyone remember the site, or will the original poster come forward?

Posted by Mara @ 10/27/2004 11:50 PM EDT

The ghost with the most is so damn dreamy. I wish he were real.

Posted by Whirred @ 10/28/2004 1:26 AM EDT

A bit off topic, but this is adressed to Mara: I ABSOLUTELY ADORE YOUR NAME GODAMMIT!!!

Anyway, I was gonna say something relevant and all…but I think I’ll just skip it this time…

Posted by Trout Spanker @ 10/28/2004 1:30 AM EDT

he might be real, but he’s not alive.

Posted by kidneyboy @ 10/28/2004 1:31 AM EDT

Forget Abbott and Costello, these guys are PRIME TIME!!!!!  So yeah, Matt, when will Shrek Crap, phase 2 begin?  Damn those green creme-filled Twinkies and Shrek 2 Kid Cuisine.  I’m sure we haven’t seen the tip of the ice burg yet, remember, the Holiday season is fast approaching leaving more of an excuse to create more shrek crap or just crap in general…

Posted by phunqsauce @ 10/28/2004 2:18 PM EDT

"Phone Boo".  Awesome.

Speaking of pumpkins and Halloween and such, check this out - from my very own neighborhood!
http://www.extremepumpkins.com

I was just taking a peek at some of the updates since last year, and his "Candy Traps" are pretty entertaining, particularly the diction.

He’s also got a Rotting Presidential Race documented by a series of photos taken at critical stages of decomposition.

Awesome.

That’s so cute!!

That was great

Posted by Cosmic F @ 10/28/2004 11:58 PM EDT

Trout Spanker: Did you know "Mara" means "sorrow"? Intersting bit of information.

May actually be some complete bullshit "fact" I made up, but I don’t think so.

Anyway, I like the name "Mara" too.

Posted by Night_Trekker @ 10/29/2004 9:40 AM EDT

"Mara" means "bitter" in Hebrew. From the book of Ruth, when Naomi ("pleasant") lost both her sons and her husband, she told eveyone to call her "Bitter" instead of "Pleasant". Names were considered synonymous with nature in Hebrew parlance. All names in the Old Testament had deep symbolic significance… I can’t believe I know this stuff :D
