That contest is mine for the taking…

That thing looks awesome, though the white cloak is a weird color choice. I’d much rather have him over the lame cutesy witch doll my family’s using.

Oh man, the cat thing made me laugh out loud!
I have a feeling SSG is going to become a frequent player in the X-E theater, eh? lol, I’m still laughing, what a great article!
Well here’s mine. I think I got the rules right.

Matt, why do they call it Standing Skull Man? It doesn’t have any legs to stand on. Perhaps they should call it Skull on a Pole. Anyway, I think its awesome. Also have you checked out http://www.frightcatalog.com

Standing Skull Man is my new god! Yep, you heard me… I’m now going to worship a styrofoam half skeleton with a pole up its … err torso.
All hail Standing Skull Man!!
The poem put this article over the top. Excellent.

Matt, you should have Standing Skull Man and the Grim Rapper duke it out with their rhymes.

Matt-I just emailed you my submission, and it came back. I got the address by clicking on the link here, so perhaps therein lies the problem?

Yessss!
I should be studying for exams, but dammit that was fun.
What’s with the Don King white mask, Matt? I must say that a black robe would be a better choice. To turn it into the Death of the discworld, it needs a scythe in the one hand and a cocktail in the other, Quoth the Raven on one shoulder and the Death of rats [SQUEAK] on the other. (This is a little rat skeleton with a black robe and it’s very own scythe). A lifesize model of the Pale Horse (Binky) wouldn’t hurt either.
Oh, yes, little pinpoints of actinic blue light in the eyesockets. One should blink a little, so that Death can wink now and again. After all, this is the spectre of Death… trying to have fun. In the conga line, I expect.
Go to: http://www.geocities.com/eminentfreak/terry.html for an intro to Terry Pratchett’s Discworld! You’ll love it.

Matt- I have recently moved to South Korea to teach english, and I must say that I am glad I have your page to visit, and feel connected to home. There- mushy moment is over. Standing Skull Man kicks ass!

Is he anything like Skull Man from Mega Man with the ability to stand instead of create a shield of little skulls? Who would of thought that skulls would make an effective shield, anyway?
P.S. I am being threatened over the Internet and only Batman can save me. Or Jesus. He’s not really everywhere, you know. It just seems that way because he can time travel.

"Hey cat, go clean your ass next to one of the things I’m already bored with. This is new and exciting, and thus must be kept clean."
I’m still laughing over this line. I can just see the sequel to Standing Skull Man coming in a week, w/ new pictures of his flowing white robes pocked with cat-claw climbing holes and Chia plants growing out of his nearly bald pate.
I’m going to start on my drawing now. I think we should get extra points of we go through the trouble of drawing it out and scanning it in. Points towards… an autographed picture of Standing Skull Man? That should be the prize.

trajeal @ 10/26/2004 8:09 AM EDT
Standing skull man is officially my new hero! Take that Jesus!
P.S. I noticed you seem to have the same gargoyle that i do….coincidence? I think not

Matt, this is a few days late, but keep your eye on the Food Channel. I saw a special on there 2 days ago about how they make halloween Peeps! No shit, it was all about Halloween candy, and a solid 5-10 minutes was about peeps. It even showed how the facial features are applied by hand, that’s why they’re all different.
AND, to top it off, it was hosted by Mark Summers.

Matt, the article was good… but the "poem" at the end made it perfect. Great stuff–pure, concentrated X-E.
That Standing Skull Man does look pretty sweet. I don’t where I would store it after Halloween, though… and you just know some snotty kid would ruin it if you used it as a porch decoration.
But for $35 you can have a skeletal coat rack? Count me in.

The best revenge is to be the last skull standing! Or having mental control over all the Ramen noodles on Earth.

HOw awesome are generic Halloween costumes/decorations? Try to think of a standard halloween costume company that stands the test of time.

Posted by
Tenacious Tate @ 10/26/2004 1:01 PM EDT
it was funny seeing this article today. i actually have one of these exact decorations, and i fixed the pole to a large remote control hummer, concealing the hummer part of course. Of course, it’s for flying out of the back yard and making kids shat themselves on halloween. pictures by tommorrow!

Andy Rooney beat me to it. I thought it should be called "Skull on a Stick"…but maybe that’s because I’m currently addicted to a tasty treat served at my local Chinese restaurant called Steak on Stick. I kid you not; this is what they call it. They won’t tell me what they put in there, and they just laugh when I come back for more every couple of days. I think they marinate it in heroin. I’ve been calling everything "…on a stick" for days now.

SSM is very cool and all but why the hell is he not wearing black? Or at least a nice charcoal gray? I’m afraid the white robe washes him out.

remote control hummer to scare the shit out of kids, classic halloween gag. i should do someting like that but there aren’t enough kids around here that go trick or treating, so i’ll have to save it for the mailman!

Sorry for the no-able-to-post shit. Blame an asshole. Works now.

Matt @ 10/26/2004 8:25 PM EDT
Both my entries are in, one MSPaint and one old fashioned. I can’t wait to see everybody’s.
(As much as I’m looking forward to San Andreas, I’ll miss that whole "interacting with the outside world" thing I’ll be skipping out on. At least there’s two player action.)
Asshole!
Today in Chicano studies there was a group presentation that handed out examples of "prison art" or "pinto" and one of them was a Virgin with her hands posed exactly like SSG. I didn’t even bother trying to explain why I burst out laughing at a picture of the Holy Mother.
I too was looking for an article on the various masks of Jason over the years. I haven’t seen all the movies, so it would be interesting to see how his mask went from good to bad to worse to whatever.
The SSM was pretty cool, he would look scary if you put him in a barrel or something so you could only see the top half of him.

The picture of you with the Michael Myers mask suspiciosly peering around the skeleton guy thing nearly made me piss my pants out of fear/laughter!

NO, SAN ANDREAS!!!
*weeps*
I forgot to preorder…
But I have to be strong… I’ll pick it up in a few months when everybody else has finished with it and everyone will refuse to talk to me about how cool it is.
Me: "Hey, I just played San Andreas! It kicks ass!"
Other Person: "Dude, that game’s been out since late October."
Me: "But it’s so cool."
Other Person: "No. We will not discuss the relatively old-news game."
Me: "But I love the part–"
Other Person: "NO."
And to tell the truth, I don’t need another distraction right now. I have a little over half a semester to go and I have to buckle down. I’m already having trouble thanks to the brand-new $20 copy of MSG2: Substance I picked up not long ago… isn’t that sad?
Other Person: "Yes… yes it is, you gaming caveman."

Posted by
Night_Trekker @ 10/27/2004 9:44 AM EDT
Screw semester, caveman… *grunt*… buy GTA now.

I like that Skull-on-a-Stand thing. Very creepy. With some proper lighting, that would scare some trick or treaters good and proper. But I think your cat was just making sure the fabric wasn’t another pet costume. "It’s safe! Dad’s not gonna make us wear it!"

Posted by
Divaah46 @ 10/27/2004 2:16 PM EDT
A half skeleton impaled on a stick, eh?
Tsk, tsk, the things that pass for decoration these days…

Everybody should’ve heard of Unwrapped by Marc Summers by now. If you haven’t, you’ll be forced to marry the Standing Skull Man. Wait, you’re not supposed to see him in his wedding dress yet! Quick, Matt, delete the pictures!
I demand Standing Skull Man showing up in the manger scene when Christmas hits X-E. He’s officially the fourth Wise Man. His gift to Jesus shall be ghost comics. And plenty of ‘em!
