10/20/2004: Slasher Costumes 4 Kids: Leatherface!
And, in the final chapter of the three part Slasher Costumes 4 Kids series, heeeere’s Leatherface! Not sure if I’d call him my favorite character of the bunch, but he definitely has the best costume. If you don’t agree he’ll come eat you.

Wait, I’m back. That mask kicks major ass! Best of the three, sezme. It kinda looks like Leatherface and Don King had a crazy lovechild and then put him on the streets to terrorize the penny/apple givers.
I’d def. buy that chainsaw, cuz ya can’t go no chainsaw when you’re mini-Leatherface. It just wouldn’t be kosher.

That costume is pretty creepy for kids! Mind you, I love it! Let’s hope to see more of those kind of costumes this year.

Matt - just a thought I’ve had for a while now: What is your IQ? I doubt you feel the need to post such a thing to appease me if you even know what it is, but I am thinking of a high number, just so you know I’m not being a jerk.

Has anyone scene the little plush Jason and Freddy dolls (not sure if there’s a Leatherface one) apparently showing up in claw machines across America? They have hard plastic heads and Jason has some nice little bloody -hole detailing on his jumpsuit. I’ve tried to snag them both, but to no avail; I usually have better luck on my bowling alley’s "Toy Soldier."

YANKEES! October Choke Artists
2001 - World Series, Diamondbacks
2002 - ALCS, Angels
2003 - World Series, Marlins
2004 - ALCS, the biggest choke in the history of baseball, Red Sox
Da da da da da, I’M LOVIN’ IT! Seriously, I always look forward to October because I know that the NFL and NCAA will be in high gear and that the Yankees will blow another $90 million season!
Anyways, that Leatherface costume is pretty badass. They have some sweet, authentic looking Leatherface masks on EBay that I would like to get if I ever decide to hack and eat. Oh well.
LET’S GO SOX!

I noticed that Matt decided to insult the original guy to play Leatherface. That’s because he’s smart enough to know that if he insulted the new guy, Andrew Bryniarski, he’d be grabbed by his mighty Russian arms and be reduced to a bag of broken bones by the LEVEL 3 FINAL ATOMIC BUSTER SPINNING PILEDRIVER!
According to IMDB, not only is Leatherface Zangief from the Street Fighter movie, but he also played Lobo in that rare student film somebody made a couple years ago, the Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special.
That’s quite a resume.

Gavok @ 10/21/2004 2:00 AM EDT
I’d say it’s the creepiest of the three, although the original mutant Jason mask was pretty freaky, too. The hair reminds me of that Michael Jackson video for Liberian Girl where Don King is swapping hair tips with the little kid with the terribly fake afro.
THE RED SOX WON!!!!! ‘NUFF SAID!!!!!

"Dave Barry taking a leave of absence"…do you mean he’s going on vacation or he’s retiring? To take Dave’s place, Matt would have to officially write for the Miami Herald, which might require moving to Florida. I suggest he doesn’t. Four hurricanes in a row? I’m not going near there ever.

Ugh, everywhere I go I get Red Sox drivel. Nobody outside of the Northeast cares!
Astros/Cardinals winner in six.
Anyway, I bow to correctness, Leatherface is indeed the best costume of the bunch.
So where does your nephew go now? Hopefully not the way of your chinchilla.

Well that’s cause the yankees and red sox have a thing called a "rivalry." I’m putting this post up after the crappy game, but rest assured yankee and boston fans, steinbrenner’s gonna fork over even more cash to ensure this is the last thing boston has to cheer about

Matt, the only thing scarier than that Leatherface costume is the Sony Connect ad with the Macy Gray video. Who let that (wo?)man touch "Walk This Way"? *shudder*

Posted by
Mara @ 10/21/2004 10:23 AM EDT
Leatherface definitely has done more to stay scary and not really become a hero icon like Freddy, Jason, or–you forgot one– Hannibal Lector.
By the way, the kid that posed in the costume… kinda creepy. No offense if he’s your cousin, or altar boy, or something.

There are games called "rugby" and "cricket" that lots of countries actually play, and when you win a "World Cup" you have actually played against other countries. It’s not a world Series unless the world is involved, dammit!
SA has won the Rugby World Cup. Against like, 10 other countries. (Rugby does not involve people in pointy boots wearing full armour like nancies. Neither can you pass the ball forwards.)
And cricket… don’t get me started. It’s the closest the English get to bull-baiting, I imagine. D’you know, I think I’ll offend hundreds of people by saying that cricket is 10000 times better than baseball, so I wont. Ahahaha.

Just for the record, I am NOT in the Northeast and I care very deeply that the Yankees got their dream-crushing, money-grubbing, Cleveland-beating asses humiliated by the sox. Go Sox!
As for the costume, I love that the apron appears to be an actual attempt to look like human skin. You know, though, kids that have great costumes like this can’t wear ‘em to school anymore. A lot of my students have told me they have two costumes - the "good one" and the crappy politically correct one they have to bring to school. Booooooooooooo, sez I. If you can’t threaten a kindergartener with a plastic chainsaw, then what’s the point of elementary school at all?

Posted by
rachi99 @ 10/21/2004 12:04 PM EDT
Now that is a pretty damn cool little outfit…I’d give that kid a bucketload of sweets (candy, whatever) if he came to my door in that, probably just so he didn’t get hungry and try and eat me!
By the way, baseball is just an over-complicated version of our girls game, Rounders. And Red Sox v Yankees ISN’T the biggest sporting rivalry in the World, the biggest, most watched one takes place this Sunday when Man United play the Unbeatable Arsenal. I thank you for your time

Who is everyone rooting for tonight?
Personally, I want to see Astros-Red Sox. Hopefully the Astros win the World Series and then we ship Bagwell to the Red Sox as a DH to finish his career.

Erik Majorwitz

I live nowhere near the Northeast, and I too care that the BoSox won. Let’s see if my Astros win tonight, and then there’ll be some trouble in my house. Wonder if I can dig up my old navy shirt with orange shoulder stripes from ‘84?…
On a different subject–a mini-poll, if you will–what do you do when you get trick-or-treaters who a) don’t really put a lot of effort into their costume, b) don’t say "Trick or treat!" and c) don’t say thank you? We seem to get a lot of those every year, so I’m just wondering what everyone else would do.

"Leatherface turns dichotomy to diechotomy with each additional double-negative something-something"
This is simply brilliant, Matt. With Dave Barry taking a leave-of-absence, perhaps you could fill his shoes?

Red Sox-Astros would be awesome because it would be just like the current presidential election, Massachussetts vs Texas. Whether you think it would be an indicator of who would win the election or not depends on how superstitious you are.
And you know, we’re made of meat, and we’re not supposed to eat each other either (sorry Leatherface, but you’re really not.)

Posted by
jhnnywalkr @ 10/21/2004 1:17 PM EDT
Astros V. Redsox would be great for the political ramifications…
Bush v. Kerrey
TX v. Mass
however, GWBush didn’t ever own the Astros, he owned the Texas Rangers. That would be something!

1)Costume - good costume choice, yet again.
2)Game - bitch bitch bitch! That’s all I hear! Didn’t anyone just enjoy the game? It’s a part of sports history! I hate the people that only root for a logo. They’re not the real fans of the game.

Interesting idea on the whole Kerry v. Bush deal. I mean, if the voting ends in a tie again, can’t we just have the World Series winner decide it?
Bush/Cheney and the Astros vs Kerry/Edwards and the Red Sox
Hey, better idea than the E.C. right?
If the Astros do pull it out tonight, I think they should go with the rainbow uniforms in the World Series.
I hate the bullpen though, too bad we can’t coax Nolan Ryan to come out the park, Mike Scott to come out and cheat, cough, er I mean throw his splitter, and get Andy Pettitte to knuckle down and pitch with his right arm.
Go ‘Stros!

Sara:
I live in Cleveland. We BETTER be fans of the game out here, because rooting for a logo will only bring you pain.
So hell yes, I enjoyed the game, just as I would ANY game where the players left everything they had on the field.

Posted by
rachi99 @ 10/21/2004 4:58 PM EDT
I’m not a fan of either, I just enjoyed the games. Although I did want the Sox to win, I hate teams that win all the time. Plus, it was cool to see a team come back from 3-0 for the first time ever. Any game that makes this many people talk about it from cities that aren’t even involved, is something special. I’m from Philly and everybody here is talking about it.
Anyway, I think the Astros are gonna in it all. But I disagree about the bullpen. From what I’ve seen of Lidge, he’s one of the nastiest pitchers to come around in awhile.

Hello everyone. I haven’t posted in awhile. My internet was down for awhile. ::curses the shitty nature of his dorm LAN:: But I’ve gotten all caught up on all the Haloween stuff. I must say that I particularly liked the whole pet costume thing and you getting your kitty into a vampire costume that was meant for dogs. Reminds of all the times I’ve helped give flea treatments to my family’s cat back home, or every time I’ve tried to pick the damn cat up. I always get the "Nnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooo!" meow too. I still think he’s cute though.

Ok, I figured it out. It’s only wrong from inside another article. The link on the main page works fine, but the sidebar link within an article links to the 19, not the 20th. Not a big deal, just thought you’d wanna know Matt. Another great update. Thanks!

And since he is gracious enough to post here, Mr. T:

Anyone hear about a panel/conference in the NYC tri-state area at which Kamala, the Ugandan warrior, Iron Sheik, Sgt. Slaughter and other 80s wrestling heros (those that did not OD on cocaine yet) will be speaking. I thought I heard something on WPLJ about it.
Matt,
I’ve unearthed some old TV recordings of WWF wrestling (the Saturday afternoon stuff) that likely features Kamala, Tonga Kid, Ricky the Dragon Steamboat etc. Problem is alot of this stuff is on freaking betamax. Let me know if your’re interested by clicking my name.

As soon as my husband saw the ad for those "Shrek Twinkies" he said, "Buy me some of those!"
