some stuff and some other stuff.

Slow week on the site, I know. Don't worry, bidness will be a'pickin' up next week -- three new articles between this weekend and the next, and absolutely none of them having to do with Italian thumb wrestling or Crayola crayons. Next article's looking pretty saha-wank so far.

Oh, an early request: I'm gearing up for the coming X-E Halloween season. Had shitloads of fun doing last year's Halloween Countdown and I can't wait to get on the ball with that again this year -- especially because the length of the daily entries won't preclude me from actually letting them be "daily." Loads of fun stuff planned, stay tuned. My request: if anyone out there has any Halloween materials they think I might be able to use on the site, please e-mail me. (feel free to use this link to do so) I don't have very many specifics on what I'm looking for, but here's a few: Halloween television specials, Halloween commercials (these can be in file format or on VHS), Halloween-inspired print ads, so on and so on. If it looks like something that would be on X-E during the Halloween season and you're willing to part with it, lemme know. Oh, please don't post what you've got in the comments section -- kinda ruins the surprise for everyone else if I use it.

To close things out, another survey topic: name your five favorite television shows ever, in any order. Did we already do this one? Oh well.

1. MST3K hands down. When it comes to laugh a minute comedy, nothing beats a guy and two puppets mocking terrible movies. I still have many of the Sci-Fi Channel episodes on VHS, and wish I’d thought of taping them earlier. Sure, the occasional episode just sucked rocks, but overall this has to be the funniest TV series that never took itself seriously of all time. As a bonus, it lives on in most Msties inability to watch any movie without make irreverent comments.

After this they’re just in the order that the come to me.

The Simpsons – all of the above reasons and I especially want to highlight the fact that the Simpsons however many years later is still doing great, is funny, and that just amazes me. No stagnation here.

Justice League – Well, the third season (or new series depending on your point of view) has been hit and miss so far, but seeing Batman, Superman, Wonder-Woman and the Flash together has been great. I love that show, and have seen every episode despite not having cable. Thank heavens for the blessing of P2P.

Whose Line is it Anyway? – My recent obsession has been downloading WLIIA?. While I’m not a huge fan of the constant sexual references, I just love the raw, on the edge feel of it. This is as close as I come to reality TV. There’s always something new and funny, now matter how old the episode, and those guy’s talents for coming up with things on the spot is just amazing.

I guess that’s all. Those are my big ones. Interestingly, the power of P2P has also given me the opportunity to view some of the classics from my youth. Take my advice – if you like the happy memories, don’t see the shows you loved as a kid again. Case in point, remember the Super Mario show and how Zelda was always on on Fridays? I RELIGIOUSLY watched Zelda on Friday despite never caring much for the rest of Mario’s crap. If I missed it, there were serious reprocussions in my house. The other day I saw the first episode and half of the second and had to stop. I’m so lucky my mom didn’t just put me out of her misery, that show was AWFUL. Between Link’s obsession with kissing Zelda (I mean, he really needs major mental help) and 4 "Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuse me Princess"es per episode, it sucks. It’s tempting to relive your childhood in our digital age. Take my advice and don’t do it.

I can’t keep myself away from the site when Matt starts talking about putting holiday stuff up. I don’t know how I ever got through the holidays before X-E came along. I don’t think I’d be wrong to say that this site lives for Halloween & Christmas. The others get their piece of the pie, but these 2 make the site what it is.

I don’t mind you rushing it because it lasts even longer that way. When you wait untill the last second, it goes by in a blink. So.. bring on the Horror movies and Christmas specials. August isn’t too early for me. October through December is my reason for breathing. I’m a nut for that stuff. Just seeing something mentioned about Halloween on here made me giddy, is that wrong?

I know I can’t be alone on this. Who’s with me? haha

I’ve been visiting XE for more than 2 yrs now but I’ve never posted anything. Matt is my favourite website owner of all time! I thought this topic was extra special though because it gives me the chance to mention Degrassi and Queer as Folk.

So my favourite tv shows of all time are:

1. Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High (not the new Degrassi!!!)

2. Queer as Folk

I can’t possibly rank the other shows that I’ve loved, so I’ll list them: X-Files, 90210 (pre-college years), Melrose Place, Felicity, David E. Kelley shows, Amazing Race, Simpsons, Six Feet Under, Queer Eye, any flopped show that Ivan Sergei starred in like Jack & Jill and Once a Thief (kidding…), Muppets, Sesamee St, Letterman, Oprah, any sappy daytime soapies

Chestnuts roasted by trajeal @ 08/26/2004 10:59 AM

Let’s have a contest to see who can guess Matt’s Top Five.

Yeah, Golden Girls must be right up there. The old He-Man and Transformers. Roseanne. Uh, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!, maybe?

Chestnuts roasted by trajeal @ 08/26/2004 11:02 AM

Golden Girls would have to be #1. Roseanne would be real high, not sure if it’d make the top 5, but maybe. Get A Life would, though. I haven’t decided on the last three. :0

Chestnuts roasted by Paulzy @ 08/26/2004 11:30 AM

Aww, contest over. :-(

I was just reading at IMDb that three of the cast members from The Outsiders, The Series died. It’s like Poltergiest of the TV persuasion. Rodney Harvey, 30, (Sodapop) died in 1998 of a drug overdose. Harold Pruett, 32 (Steve Randel) died in 2002 of a drug overdose. Kim Walker, 32, (Cherry Valance) died of cancer in 2001. She also (famously) played Heather Chandler in Heathers. Makes the line, "Did you eat a brain tumor for breakfast?" sort of foreshadowing, huh?
