X-Entertainment.com X-Entertainment UGO
X-Entertainment is still feeling pretty bad about those lobsters.

08/25/2004: some stuff and some other stuff.

Slow week on the site, I know. Don’t worry, bidness will be a’pickin’ up next week — three new articles between this weekend and the next, and absolutely none of them having to do with Italian thumb wrestling or Crayola crayons. Next article’s looking pretty saha-wank so far.

Oh, an early request: I’m gearing up for the coming X-E Halloween season. Had shitloads of fun doing last year’s Halloween Countdown and I can’t wait to get on the ball with that again this year — especially because the length of the daily entries won’t preclude me from actually letting them be “daily.” Loads of fun stuff planned, stay tuned. My request: if anyone out there has any Halloween materials they think I might be able to use on the site, please e-mail me. (feel free to use this link to do so) I don’t have very many specifics on what I’m looking for, but here’s a few: Halloween television specials, Halloween commercials (these can be in file format or on VHS), Halloween-inspired print ads, so on and so on. If it looks like something that would be on X-E during the Halloween season and you’re willing to part with it, lemme know. Oh, please don’t post what you’ve got in the comments section — kinda ruins the surprise for everyone else if I use it.

To close things out, another survey topic: name your five favorite television shows ever, in any order. Did we already do this one? Oh well.

My five all time favorite shows?
5. Hogan’s Heroes
4. Futurama (The Simpsons is rated higher because I’ve been a fan longer and there are more episodes, but Futurama’s percentage of great or perfect episodes is way higher)
3. The Simpsons
2. Mystery Science Theater 3000
1. Star Trek

Yeah, so I’m a geek. At least I have the courage to admit it.

Ghosted by Eric @ 08/25/2004 6:45 PM EDT

3 of these shows are recent shows. Either I didn’t watch TV as much when I was younger, or TV’s just better now. My 5 Faves in no particular order:

The Incredible Hulk (I said no order, but this one is really my favorite ever)

Perfect Strangers (Balki Bartokomous = greatest character ever)

24

The Shield

The Sopranos

Honorable mention: Family Ties, He-Man, Who’s the Boss, Family Guy, Transformers, The FBI Files

Ghosted by T.J. @ 08/25/2004 6:53 PM EDT

Sorry, It was Whiz Kids, and they didn’t have Superpowers, they were computer geeks. I can’t believe a memory from age 7 burbled up through the bong resin.

Rosanne!!

Seinfeld/C.Y.E. (as someone else stated, they are pretty much the same show, but on HBO, they can swear! Even better, but no Kramer :( )

Holy shit, one more? That’s it? Naahhhh

Oh yeah, Matt you should dress up as Madd Corey Haim this year, black out some teeth and make a little bald spot on the side of your head. That would rock my socks.

Ghosted by kidneyboy @ 08/25/2004 7:54 PM EDT

(Arsenio Hall) Woot, woot! Go Corey! Yeah, Corey! You’re the Haimster! It’s your birhday! And you’re crazy! (/Arsenio Hall)

Speaking of, has anyone seen the extras for the 2 Disc Lost Boys DVD coming out? I’m psyched.

Top five:

5. 4. DangerMouse
3. MythBusters
2. Don’t Just Sit There!
1. Freaks and Geeks

Yeah, I’m probably totally alone w/ those, huh?

Ghosted by trajeal @ 08/25/2004 8:21 PM EDT

Hey, where’d number 5 go? Oh, well. It was The Outsiders, The Series (David Arquette before he became the CALL-ATT dork).

Ghosted by trajeal @ 08/25/2004 8:22 PM EDT

Damn. At Wal-Mart just an hour ago, there was this great life-size dancing skeleton in a suit, and I was going to take its picture, but there were two truckers pretending to talk to it and I was afraid they’d kill me. I would’ve sent Matt the picture…

Well, I do remember the price. It was $59.97. I told my sister, "That is clearly the most worthy use of sixty dollars in the whole store."

matt, can you do a survey asking people’s favourite nostalgic tv shows?

Ghosted by Rachel Cakes @ 08/25/2004 10:02 PM EDT

My five favorite TV shows change every few months, but at this moment they are (live action – if it were animation, we could be here all night)…

Remember WENN
The Monkees
Night Court
Perfect Strangers
The Mary Tyler Moore Show

I’m definately looking forward to an X-Entertainment holiday season, from the first inklings of Halloween (has anyone else already seen Halloween ready-bake cookies on the shelves?) to the last tooting of the horn midnight on New Year’s. Halloween and fall usually waits another week or two down here in south Jersey, mostly because we need to get over the big Labor Day holiday (and the tourists) before we can move onto the next one.

+ the simpsons (seasons 1-9 the tracey ullman shorts are awesome too. those need to be on dvd)

+ good times (this show show just clicked with me)

+ fat albert (hey hey hey)

+ fresh prince (seasons 1-3…..the first half of season 4 had some good ones too. basically it died when they announce "we’re having a baby" as does any show)

2. Freaks and Geeks
3. The Simpsons
4. Mr Show
5. The White Shadow

Favorite five? Hmmm… In no particular order:

1) Firefly
2) Buffy
3) Doctor Who
4) Highlander
5) Well, those previous four are the shows I’ve watched religiously– the fifth, then, I suppose would have to be a toss up between Whose Line (both versions, they’re equally addictive), Carnivale, old school Ninja Turtles, Red Dwarf, MST3K, The Prisoner, and The Avengers.

Ghosted by Pirate7L @ 08/25/2004 11:11 PM EDT

So many choices…..

MST3K
The State (sketch comedy)
Sifl and Olly
Upright Citizens Brigade (sketch comedy)
all stuff on adult swim that isn’t anime ( well, except that Baby Blues show it really really sucks)
Clone High
Saved by the Bell (guilty pleasure)
South Park
Early Eps of Beavis and Butt-Head
The Head
The Maxx
Video Power (the tips/cartoon version not the game show version. YOu had to love how campy the show was using characters from differnt Acclaim titles, like a poor man’s captain N. Where else could you see Tyrone from Arch Rivals and Mr. Big from NARC in the same place??)
The original Disney afternoon

Ghosted by phunqsauce @ 08/25/2004 11:14 PM EDT

5, with me it has to be either more or less, so I’ll go with more! I loved Pokemon (though haven’t watched it in ages) Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura and Serial Experiments Lain… hmmm, and as far as non anime those would be Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, South Park, Family Guy, Futurama, The Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead, Garfield and Friends, Married with Children, Monty Pythons Flying Circus and Unwrapped. There are probably more, but most of those are the ones I try to catch whenever they are on TV.

Ghosted by sailor moon @ 08/25/2004 11:32 PM EDT

Conan O’Brien (I laugh like a retard whenever Frankenstein wastes a minute of my time) and TV Funhouse too.

1. MST3K hands down. When it comes to laugh a minute comedy, nothing beats a guy and two puppets mocking terrible movies. I still have many of the Sci-Fi Channel episodes on VHS, and wish I’d thought of taping them earlier. Sure, the occasional episode just sucked rocks, but overall this has to be the funniest TV series that never took itself seriously of all time. As a bonus, it lives on in most Msties inability to watch any movie without make irreverent comments.

After this they’re just in the order that the come to me.

The Simpsons – all of the above reasons and I especially want to highlight the fact that the Simpsons however many years later is still doing great, is funny, and that just amazes me. No stagnation here.

Justice League – Well, the third season (or new series depending on your point of view) has been hit and miss so far, but seeing Batman, Superman, Wonder-Woman and the Flash together has been great. I love that show, and have seen every episode despite not having cable. Thank heavens for the blessing of P2P.

Whose Line is it Anyway? – My recent obsession has been downloading WLIIA?. While I’m not a huge fan of the constant sexual references, I just love the raw, on the edge feel of it. This is as close as I come to reality TV. There’s always something new and funny, now matter how old the episode, and those guy’s talents for coming up with things on the spot is just amazing.

I guess that’s all. Those are my big ones. Interestingly, the power of P2P has also given me the opportunity to view some of the classics from my youth. Take my advice – if you like the happy memories, don’t see the shows you loved as a kid again. Case in point, remember the Super Mario show and how Zelda was always on on Fridays? I RELIGIOUSLY watched Zelda on Friday despite never caring much for the rest of Mario’s crap. If I missed it, there were serious reprocussions in my house. The other day I saw the first episode and half of the second and had to stop. I’m so lucky my mom didn’t just put me out of her misery, that show was AWFUL. Between Link’s obsession with kissing Zelda (I mean, he really needs major mental help) and 4 "Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuse me Princess"es per episode, it sucks. It’s tempting to relive your childhood in our digital age. Take my advice and don’t do it.

I can’t keep myself away from the site when Matt starts talking about putting holiday stuff up. I don’t know how I ever got through the holidays before X-E came along. I don’t think I’d be wrong to say that this site lives for Halloween & Christmas. The others get their piece of the pie, but these 2 make the site what it is.

I don’t mind you rushing it because it lasts even longer that way. When you wait untill the last second, it goes by in a blink. So.. bring on the Horror movies and Christmas specials. August isn’t too early for me. October through December is my reason for breathing. I’m a nut for that stuff. Just seeing something mentioned about Halloween on here made me giddy, is that wrong?

I know I can’t be alone on this. Who’s with me? haha

I’ve been visiting XE for more than 2 yrs now but I’ve never posted anything. Matt is my favourite website owner of all time! I thought this topic was extra special though because it gives me the chance to mention Degrassi and Queer as Folk.

So my favourite tv shows of all time are:

1. Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High (not the new Degrassi!!!)

2. Queer as Folk

I can’t possibly rank the other shows that I’ve loved, so I’ll list them: X-Files, 90210 (pre-college years), Melrose Place, Felicity, David E. Kelley shows, Amazing Race, Simpsons, Six Feet Under, Queer Eye, any flopped show that Ivan Sergei starred in like Jack & Jill and Once a Thief (kidding…), Muppets, Sesamee St, Letterman, Oprah, any sappy daytime soapies

Golden Girls would have to be #1. Roseanne would be real high, not sure if it’d make the top 5, but maybe. Get A Life would, though. I haven’t decided on the last three. :0

Aww, contest over. :-(

I was just reading at IMDb that three of the cast members from The Outsiders, The Series died. It’s like Poltergiest of the TV persuasion. Rodney Harvey, 30, (Sodapop) died in 1998 of a drug overdose. Harold Pruett, 32 (Steve Randel) died in 2002 of a drug overdose. Kim Walker, 32, (Cherry Valance) died of cancer in 2001. She also (famously) played Heather Chandler in Heathers. Makes the line, "Did you eat a brain tumor for breakfast?" sort of foreshadowing, huh?
