08/11/2004: Tamagotchi Mobiles!

On the way to work yesterday, I couldn’t help noticing a line about 64 miles long wrapped around Toys ‘R’ Us like a hungry boa. Apparently there for some event tied to the brand new “Tamagotchi Connection” toys, enthusiasts from all around the world congregated at Geoffrey’s headquarters for a spirited round of “let’s wait 80 hours to see new Tamagotchi toys yeeaaahhhh!” Something like that. Just before navigating my way through the giant noodle and into my building, something caught my eye and wouldn’t give it back:

Tamagotchi-style Volkswagon Buggies! Herbies from Hell! There was a row of five of six of ‘em parked outside Toys ‘R’ Us with enough security hanging around to make me think our terror alert had been raised to Neon Carrot. Sadly, they could very well be repainted “Pikamobiles” from a few years ago – Pokemon had the same deal going with the same yellow cars. Poor Pika.

I can’t believe those things are "back." How long do they have to be gone to be considered "back"? I agree with what some people have been saying-yes, a lot of shit has been making a comeback, thus proving that we children of the 80’s had the best cartoons ever! I LOVE the fact that I see He-Man, TMNT, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears and Transformers regularly again!! It just proves that Pokemon and Tamagotchi stuff is NOT as cool as all that great old stuff. Take THAT Pikachu! :)

I like Invader Norbert’s idea- Review UHF. It’s funny as hell. Yes, I own it on DVD….should I be embarrassed about that?

Ghosted by Muppet Baby @ 08/12/2004 10:31 AM EDT

I also have UHF on DVD. As soon as I saw it, I dove into the two-for-eleven bin at Wal-Mart like a big dumpy 34-year-old. I like the easter eggs. If Mistah Matt doesn’t do an actual review, he should at least review the eggs.

Nate, I’m too young to have *three* mortal enemies… ; ) if the box is overflowing, I’ll send some stuff out to some of the regulars…

Never had a Tamagotchi, but I want one now… sigh. Gimme my AMZ any day.

I’m a regular. Dibs on at least one action figure! I don’t care what it is.

What’s UHF?

Ghosted by UHF @ 08/12/2004 3:41 PM EDT

UHF is the movie Weird Al Yankovic made in the late 80s.

Hey Matt, take a look at this…can’t wait for the review:

"The first holiday drink on tap is the Halloween-themed Mountain Dew Pitch Black, which will be sold from Aug. 21 through Oct. 31, according to a Pepsi press release. The new twist on an old favorite combines Mountain Dew with black grape flavor.

Pepsi Holiday Spice, the company’s trademark Pepsi-Cola drink mixed with ginger and cinnamon, will be sold from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31.

Too funny Y2J — just read that article…and YES, I will be reviewing those. :)

Not again with Pikachu swearing about, I think, Tamagotchi getting all the popularity or something about Pespi.

Like everyone else said, Matt, you should review UHF, the DVD version. Believe it or not there a deleted scene with more of wheel of fish. Favorite quote from movie: "You so stupid." :)

Second favorite quote from UHF: "….You get to drink from the fire hose." (Scene from Standly Clubhouse)

This has nothing to do with tamagotchi, but posted on Animal Planet.com, a supercolony of mutated ants (no, not huge, monsterous ants) has recently been found in " Australian city of Melbourne." Tamagotchi and Pokemon is not the only thing that trying to take over the world.

http://animal.discovery.com/news/afp/20040809/antcolony.html

Beta-Theta, beware of Them!

Ghosted by ME @ 08/12/2004 8:04 PM EDT

Yes ME, I add aware of Them (the giant, mutated ants movie). However in a biological point-of-view, ants or any arthropods (Crabs, lobster, spider, etc) are not able to grow to huges size do to 1. their exoskeleton, unlike the vertbrae endoskeleton, is fix to a certain size (tiny) and 2. even if there was a giant ant rampaging through the city, it would been dead in second since it would take much longer for oxygen to disfuse into there lung-like structure. You guys may get bored with my useless biology fact, but fact: it was actually answer to one of biology exam.

Ghosted by Beta-Theta @ 08/12/2004 8:38 PM EDT

My professor wanted everyone in the class to know that arthropods cannot get to be huge in B-Movie. :)

Ugo has a video interview with The Coreys and some other interesting sections for the DVD release:

Funny, I was just coming to post about the review of Pocket Ninjas at Something Awful. It got a score of -49 and it was compared both to Nukie and MAC and Me. Scary.

If anyone cares, Nintendo has announced the games for its Classic NES Series Volume 2. Slim pickings this time, with only four titles to choose from, only one of which was part of Japan’s Famicom Mini Series 2. The other three are part of FM Series 3 in Japan, which is the end of the series over there. I think Nintendo of America is trying to draw this out over a very long period of time. Anyway, here’s the list:

-Dr. Mario (The lone series 2 game, and an odd choice since this series has been about the 80’s and this is a 90’s game. Granted, 1990, close enough. But I’ll probably still get it. Also the only 2 player game in the set.)

-Metroid (An even odder choice, since beating Metroid: Zero Mission for GBA unlocks the original NES version. I’d go with that instead.)

-Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (a natural pick. I’ll certainly be getting it.)

-Castlevania (I may get this, or I might just get one of the other GBA Catlevania’s, since they’ve got so much more.)

This set will be out October 25th. You can always import Famicom Mini games from Japan, too, since GBA has no reigon coding.

If it was Mr. S, I bet he was putting the crayons Spidey reviewed to good use.

Just bought my self Unicron! As soon a s finish getting my digital camera out of layaway, I’ll try to get a few pics of the Monster Planet flipping off various landmarks in my town. Or reviewing the sharpener on a crayon box.

TAMAGOTCHIS! EVIL!!!
Anyway, changing the subject, Matt can you please do an article the Bionicle toyline (one of the few toylines being sold in stores that are not from the 80s). Most kids now love it. If you have no clue about what the #%$# Bionicle is, go to BzPower.com.
PS Matt, do you like Yu-Gi-Oh? Personally, I like the TV show, but not the card game.

Ghosted by TOM @ 08/15/2004 4:55 PM EDT

Correction, Tamagotchis are soooo 1997.
