06/18/2004: Jell-O Pudding Pops are BACK!

It’s a short article that was more suited to be a blog entry, but it was just too big of an occasion to resist: Jell-O Pudding Pops are back! This probably isn’t big news to most of you here; I’ve seen it talked about over the past few weeks, but for the other half of the planet who must have this information, it’s now there in html form with a bunch of pictures of Tunnel Rat. Now then, the answer to yesterday’s Kinder Egg trivia quiz is…

A spider. Guess the clue was a little easy. “Ant” is our winner with the first corrent entry. He wins a big huge smile. :)

So, is Jason going to kill that spider or what?

Yeah! Spider!

Aww, shoot! *snaps fingers* Well, guess that’s what I get for falling to the allure of the blog entry with "No Comments" written on it. Blaah.

Ghosted by Freezair @ 06/18/2004 3:37 PM EDT

Yay I was the first one to guess it.

Ghosted by Ant @ 06/18/2004 3:39 PM EDT

No way! That spider is the Jason-killer in Friday the 13 Part XXVII!

Ghosted by jumbolaya @ 06/18/2004 3:39 PM EDT

Screw Atkins. Now that these baby’s are back, summer is fun again.

Ghosted by woodisgoodcdl @ 06/18/2004 3:49 PM EDT

Weird…I was thinking about pudding pops the other day, and now they’re back! Yay!!

Hilarious! Mikey Tyler Moore should hang the ‘M’ on his wall. That would rule.

My fave part of the article, that I doubt too many will get, is the homage to Schultz’s Peanuts in the last two lines. Good show.

How long did it take you to find action figures that could hold onto the popsicles?

I’ve never seen a vanilla pudding pop; I must have grown up eating Schwann’s imitation ones.

Ghosted by Piscez @ 06/18/2004 4:32 PM EDT

I got the homage, but it can’t compare to the Big John Studd toss. RIP!

Matt, was that Snake Eyes behind the wooden background?

Ghosted by J-Dog @ 06/18/2004 4:47 PM EDT

That is probably the happiest looking spider I’ve ever seen.

I never had a Jell-o pop when I was a kid, but I do remember the commercials that made me hate Bill Cosby. I was indifferent to him until they shoved him in my face during every commercial break.

Gee I thought I grew up in the only household in the world wearing flipping Big John Studd was used to settle disputes…

Ass Up!!!

edit that "wearing" to "where"

once again, however….

Matt – Does the spider do anything? Any suction cups for hanging? It looks like it should be able to do something!!

Ghosted by Alison @ 06/18/2004 5:03 PM EDT

I think it attaches to the web; it may also be a top, but I left the little guidebook thingy outside.

Ghosted by Matt @ 06/18/2004 5:04 PM EDT

i tried the new Pops a couple weeks back, after i assumed i had been sucked into another dimension when i saw them on the grocery store shelves. fucking yum.

Ghosted by zann @ 06/18/2004 5:41 PM EDT

those looks so good…

And those damn chocolate funky fries are STILL on reduced price closeout at vons! No one will buy them, however the confetti fishsticks are gone. Jummy neutron is just taking up that whole freezer and nothing else is next to the fries. They dont want the infection to spread. They wont throw them out due to hazardous waste laws. At least jimmy has HIS air conditioning for summer. >:O

Been a good week for X-E articles. Three and I loved ‘em all.

Ghosted by Jake @ 06/18/2004 6:27 PM EDT

Hey Matt, that is one of the greatest announcements I have heard this year. I am a huge fan of Puddin Pops.

I still have a question though, where did you find Duck-A-Roos? I am searching for them and no luck. Thanks

Ghosted by Iceman @ 06/18/2004 6:51 PM EDT

Damnit, there goes the waist line. All those crunches are gonna go to waste now that these evil spawn of the Coz are back.

Ghosted by jimcognito @ 06/18/2004 6:58 PM EDT

Mmmmmmm.
My mother used to get me Jell-O Pudding Pops when I was very young.

A few months ago when I was sick she surprised me with a box.

Oh, I love them. <3

Ghosted by Denise @ 06/18/2004 7:06 PM EDT

Either they didn’t sell pudding pops here, or my parents never bought them. My mom had a Tupperware thing that could make 6 pops of whatever flavour you poured into the moulds. Most often it weas pudding or regular fruit jello’s mixed with kool-aid powder. I ate many during the summer months of my childhood, and the chewed-up rings of they key-like sticks are proof.

i’ve only been able to find the pudding pops at my publix

Ghosted by george @ 06/18/2004 8:24 PM EDT

Holy shit! I didn’t realize the archives are still up and searchable! Holy shit! I’m so stupid! This is awesome! Now I just have to remember old articles I liked… Bar Harbor! Yay!

I’ve never had a pudding pop, but they sound yummy.

You saved the article when you brought in the Turtles. I wasn’t sure how much more I could read about the flavors and freezer burn. But as usual, it was a great article. :)

Ghosted by Mandie J @ 06/18/2004 10:51 PM EDT

All right! Maybe my Grandma will have some in her fridge this summer, just like she did in the late 80s. Man, I’m having flashbacks now. Great article!

Ghosted by Number5 @ 06/18/2004 11:09 PM EDT

If that spider had two more eyes, he’d be the Itsy Bitsy Spider from the short-lived USA cartoon. And that’s cool. I hope there’s a Kinder Egg featuring an off-brand Ned’s Newt.

But will they ever have Butterscotch again???
We must have Butterscotch.

Ghosted by Randomkill @ 06/19/2004 2:20 AM EDT

Drool :P
I can’t believe I’ve never had these before. Going to the grocery store now. I’ll comment again after I’ve tried them. They’d better be as good as you say. :D

I remember some kind of pudding freezie. Like a Mr. Freezie, but it was pudding instead. There was chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and I believe butterscotch. Mmmmmm… Those were good. I wonder if they still make them.

Ghosted by chem @ 06/19/2004 8:14 AM EDT

Haven’t you ever made your own? XD I make mine all the time– they come out better than those nasteh store bought thingamajigs. Freezer-burn and all.

Ghosted by Moose @ 06/19/2004 9:41 AM EDT

Matt, would you ever flip this to settle a dispute?

http://www.411mania.com/figures/viewscreenshot.php?screenshots_id=4025

I wouldn’t. These figs are too fucking awesome!

Not as awesome as a "Mac and Me" review, mind you.

Ghosted by A-wel Cruiz @ 06/19/2004 10:03 AM EDT

So wait when I buy Pudding Pops they don’t freezer burn them beforehand???

Ghosted by Geek @ 06/19/2004 10:55 AM EDT

SWEEEET! I am going to go put on my Bill Cosby Sweater and head to the store to get me some Pudding pops.
-Now go eat some jello pudding

Number5, if she’s anything like my grandmother, those are the exact same box of pudding pops from the 80’s…something to complement the tasty "one-solid- lump-of-candy" dish on display.

Ghosted by whitemale_98/competent soldier @ 06/19/2004 12:16 PM EDT

Jake: agreed. This week explains the appeal of X-E to me. We went from the carnival to Jason to Pudding Pops.

Ghosted by Love The Swirl @ 06/19/2004 1:11 PM EDT

The freezer burn ice coating that we loved so much is not freezer burn at all but done at the factory. To prvent the "pops" from losing their shape they are quickly dipped in water before packaging.

Ghosted by Madbuster @ 06/19/2004 1:17 PM EDT

Madbuster, I’m not so sure if they’re doing that on the new version. They’re pretty gooey. Legit freezerburn might be the only way to get it.

Ghosted by Horatio @ 06/19/2004 1:25 PM EDT

Whoa! They’re back! Now is a time to rejoice and sing! Jell-O pudding pops have ressurected! I shall honour this great miracle with a purchase!

Matt- Great coverage of this glorious event!
