You know, you can buy just the toys from Kinder Surprise on eBay for about 20 cents apiece (assuming you want 150 of them). The toys only get weirder as you go. Unfortunately, They’ve swamped my house. I don’t have the heart to throw them away.

Woah. Jerry from Tom & Jerry? I didn’t know that Kinder did brand-name toys: but, then again, I think that the chocolate is the most revolting thing I’ve ever tasted and have only ever received Kinder eggs when friends and family inexplicably give ‘em to me. My favourite toy, though, was a little yellow brand-nameless propeller plane. Proving once again that you don’t need Disney to make you happy.

SECOND WOOO

Jerry…obsessed with superman?

eh?

Ghosted by vyle @ 06/03/2004 8:32 AM EDT

Whoa…I just got the peacock puzzle thingy last night from a Kinder Egg…weird! My wife eats the egg and I get the toy. She loves those things, but I have to agree with Molten. The "chocolate" tastes like doo doo. Of course, this raises the question of how would I know what doo doo tastes like?

Woohoo! 5th post! So what? That’s good for me!

I’ve only had the Kinder Eggs from Europe, and they didn’t taste that bad. They also featured tons of "Asterix the Gaul" toys.

I remember Kinder eggs with Smurfs in them, oh so long ago. And one time I got The Pink Panther.

Ghosted by Marq @ 06/03/2004 10:11 AM EDT

oohhh.. I remember the Smurfs and the Pink Panthers.. those ones were always the best.. though with the Smurf ones, if you turned their heads around backwards their little tails kind of looked like.. erm.. *cough* well.. yes.. it was hilarious though… at least at the time..

Kinder Eggs Rock. Last one I had had a bishop with his own miniature cathedral. Niftyness.

I believe goblin22 and I win the satisfaction of knowing that we have correctly guessed the contents of stale chocolate eggs from Germany. I dunno about him, but I sure feel special! :)

Fun times, Matt!

BaronVonHotPants-

I LOVE Asterix and Obelix! I’ve been reading those comix since I was but a wee lass… The books are at times rather challenging to find, but it’s oh so worth it…

ASTERIX!!!!
My fiance said that a cure for acid panic was the following:
-bottle of coke
-flakie (cream and fruit filled turnover, but waaaaaay more delicate)
-Asterix comic.

Also, he said he ate a chunk of hash and passed out and dreamt he was laying on a beach looking at they sky, reading asterix comics floating across. He became nervous when he thought, ‘what happens when I’ve read them all?’
to which an ethereal voice replied, ‘you can just read them over again."

The "most read comic" in my house is Calvin and Hobbes, though because ol’ Bill Watterson never shelled out to the merchandisers, we shal never see a miature Hobbes inside of one of Germany’s devil eggs.

Random: If they’re from Germany, why is the text on the back of the wrapper written in the Cyrillic alphabet?

Ghosted by Freezair @ 06/03/2004 1:30 PM EDT

OOOOHHHHH they’re from Germany. Now I know why I’ve never heard of this things anywhere but on this site. I dont think they make it to the midwest.

And to comment on one of the posts above, C&H is my favorite comic ever. It killed me when I heard he was retiring. I kind of wish he would have sold out though, cause I would have loved to have C&H action figures, or at least little plastic statues or something. Instead I’m stuck trying to find the books on sale and laughing at t-shirts with C&H in different sexual positions.

Actually, Kinder Eggs are available everywhere in Canada around Easter. I used to get a lot of them in my Easter basket. Always thought the toys were stupid, but liked the chocolate shell.

Guess the word:

"Your hands have ten.
And ten has two.
And two has one.
And That’s your clue."

Guess the object:

"This softheaded fellow’s
a pleasure to meet.
Ignore him he cries,
but kiss him, he’s sweet!"

Riddle me this:

"I’m king of my lands,
with a huntress for bride.
And she and my chidren,
are truly my pride."

No prizes but my admiration.
Got them out of a magazine.

Word: Digit(s)

No clue on the other two. Not too good at riddles.

Here’s a good one:

"What have I got in my pocket? "

Ghosted by Bitsy&Roary @ 06/04/2004 12:24 PM EDT

I go on forever,
I’ll always march straight ahead.
You think you’re so clever,
but I"ll never be stopped.
I can’t pick up my pace,
I can’t turn around.
Though I do have a face,
I can’t see or slowdown.

YAY me I made that up! what am I?

The thrid riddle is a lion

Ghosted by Bright Noah @ 06/04/2004 12:52 PM EDT

I thought Matt’s riddles were really tough but that is cuz I’m kind of retarded and thought they were both about the same thing. No wonder I was so confused.

Ghosted by Gabbylicious @ 06/04/2004 12:58 PM EDT

I’d like to mention that in Germany, you can get some of the most badassed Kinder Surprise toys, including Lord of the Rings stuff. Wish they had’em here in the US, but I just know that parental and government committees would never approve, due to all the stupid children who would try to swallow them, and all the stupid parents who would let them.

Ghosted by Nate @ 06/04/2004 1:27 PM EDT

They did have something like them in the us. It was called wonderball. But after about a month on the market they took the toys out because parents complained.

Ghosted by Bright Noah @ 06/04/2004 1:39 PM EDT

Wow, Kinder Eggs are crazy.

Ghosted by Mister S @ 06/04/2004 2:53 PM EDT

Wonderball has nothing on this! Wonderball just had some really crappy Disney candy and a sticker/tattoo. These things have toys!!! I mean with the Wonderball, you have some kind of insurance since it’s full of little tiny pieces of dissolving candy. These things would never make it in the US, like Nate said, because little kids would find some crazy way to choke on them and sue. It’ll be McDonald’s coffee all over again, showing that disclaimers AREN’T FOOL-PROOF. At least in the US anyway…

Ghosted by Erik @ 06/04/2004 4:57 PM EDT

When I was a kid, Cracker Jacks used to have cool prizes inside like mini-pinball games. They also had little books full of temporary tattoos so you could put them on your face and look like a carnie. Nowadays all you get are crummy stickers. These Kinder Eggs look supercool!

Ghosted by Fr8train @ 06/05/2004 12:23 PM EDT

we’ve had these things in canada as long as I can remember. and we sell them year round were I work (7-11). And trust me. the toys get far, far more insane. there’s some damn fun ones too.

Ghosted by gorffy @ 06/05/2004 4:35 AM EDT

Erik, when wonderball first came out, it had toys in it. But parents thougth their children were goign to choke on them, so they took the toys out.

Ghosted by Bright Noah @ 06/05/2004 10:10 AM EDT

I would have to say the best kinder egg toy i got was olive oil. you know, popeyès girl. sassy sophisticated sexy lady.

Ghosted by Bitsy&Roary @ 06/05/2004 8:51 PM EDT

Bitsy&Roary: I would guess that you’re time. I think. I also had a lot of Peanuts figures from kinder eggs. They ended up in my fish bowl. I’m pretty sure that’s what killed my goldfish.

Ghosted by blstnddskroot @ 06/06/2004 12:22 PM EDT

Ha! Most of the time spent reading XE I feel left out because we don’t get most of the toys and the delicious 10 year old treats Matt reviews here in Finland, but atleast I can pretty much always get me some Kinder eggs. And I’ve never choked on one of their toy surprises. (but the chocolate hurts my teeth.)

Ghosted by iivuli @ 06/06/2004 1:47 PM EDT

Holy crap. I zone out and leave the blog for a little while and what happens? A whole conversation about Kinder Eggs.
I moved to Germany about a bit less than a year ago (in Blog time….Fearless Photog contest era)…Kinder eggs are frickin’ addictive. I have the Lord of the Rings set…its fricking surreal getting a Christopher Lee in your chocolate. Still my favorite to date is an oriental man selling fish balls. From the "our friends of the Orient" kinder egg collection, we have an authentic chinese street vendor, selling…fish balls. (came with an info packet all about it).
But you know what’s strangest? The Kinder-copy cat products…from Greek to Turkish to French "kinder eggs) the knock-off toys are somehow so more weird when they’re generic rip-offs of actual already weird as hell kinder egg toys.
bah.

Collect Kinder eggs AND i’m in Berlin AND I miss the Kinder egg bus. Lucky me.
-Jared

hurray blstnddskroot! you win my clue!

You also win the most difficult name to type!

PS I am jealous of German kindertoys. Finland too. Canadian Kinderegg toys have really gone downhill.

Ghosted by Bitsy&Roary @ 06/08/2004 1:28 AM EDT

Never forget to put those eggs into the fridge for a while. Makes the chocolate a billion times better.
